Church was never a place of comfort for those who have been othered. Now dear elder Holland. Let's fast forward to his musket talk. Hurray for unconditional love
Listening to this on David O. McKay’ 148th birthday. Such good stuff in this presentation. I hope McKay’s legacy of forward thinking and a broad heart wins the day. The Church and the world would benefit greatly.
@@marquitaarmstrong399 I have read quite a bit of LDS history including this biography of McKay as well as some of McKay’s own writings and can’t say as I see much evidence of cold heartedness. I’m curious as to what makes you dislike him so much. And are you someone old enough to have lived through his tenure as Prophet?

The book is actually a pretty good read. It reveal much about the political leanings and involvement of many church leaders. Including a good deal of information that should have resulted in Ezra Benson's excommunication at the time. (Too bad that didn't happen) The co-author, (who provided the vast majority of the information contained in the book) was my mission president. Personally, I suspect "the brethren" called him as a mission president just to exile him. He began asking questions after reading through his Aunt's notes. He met Mr. Prince while serving his mission and was already to "fall away" then. Sad, it took me 20+ years to find this book, and read it. It reveals a lot about a high demand religion and why the ultra-conservative political inertia of the 1960's influenced the selection of its current leadership who screwed it up even more today.
The Book of Mormon is “a word of God” not “the word of God”? Joseph Smith claimed the BOM was a literal translation of an ancient record that came from the gold plates he claimed to have held. As it turns out the Book of Mormon is a work of fiction created by a backwood hillbilly that used a peep stone. Though Joseph was unique in creativity and charisma he was no prophet. You can’t keep members from leaving this “religion” when that cat leaps out of the bag claws scratching and teeth biting, especially when the leadership had changed the narrative to exclude important embarrassing facts of its creation and evolution. 🤦♂️
Chris, l agree with a portion of your comments. The second paragraph is right on, but the Book of Mormon is not a word of God. It is a work of fiction. A word of man.

David O. McKay died January 18, 1970, in Salt Lake City, UT. He was 96. May he rest in Peace.
Bill, you need to make it clear that this was 8 years ago and you have since left the church.
Ya… why?
@@RangeMcrangeface because he would be misrepresenting himself and his material. Context is everything.
