Aha, the classic Vulcan roll - never to be publicly repeated I believe.

Would've loved to smell the Jp5 and listen to the sheer raw power of the mighty engines of the Vulcan taking off. Perfect for an Air Force brat raised on SAC Bases.

The Fairey Delta 2, years ahead of its time and a magnificent looking aircraft, those were the days when Great Britain was leading the world with aircraft design or at least on par with the USA!

well the french knew a good one when they saw it so they bought the research data and created the mirage line of jets. very successful line as well.

@@mrrolandlawrence Not quite. With the British government not interested the French allowed Fairey to use their airfields for test flights. This allowed them to study the aerodynamics of a delta wing aircraft supersonic aircraft the same size as the Mirage III which was already in development from the smaller ll Mirage I. The USA studied it in Norway for the same reason in developing the Convair F-102 and later F-106 interceptors.

9 thumbs down for cutting the barrel roll of the vulcan :O why would they cut that short? :O interesting that the british completely overlooked how great the little fariey deta was because the french bought the research data and then created the fantastic and successful mirage jets on the bases of that research! i do love these old farnborough videos though :) amazing times!

Thanks very much for posting. I had no idea that there was a plane around in 1955 that was able to drop the nose like Concord. Thanks again.

So cool 😎, I had the greatest days ever at raf Finningley in the 70s ,you could sit in spits lightnings all the four engined heavies, woman handing out stickers for cigarette company advertising 😀, cheap food and drink 🍸 including alcohol for adult's, pilots talking to kids ,just amazing stuff you can no longer do due to health n safety and over population ,smaller back then with people who had respect and didn't litter.

I like the way he refers to the Gnat and Javelin as "supersonic".....well they would do it, but only in a dive. I also noticed the FD2 pilot released the braking parachutes whilst he was still a good few feet in the air, and wondering if that was a party trick or standard practice....or something...

Gnat was supersonic in a dive, but I don't think the Javelin ever was, I think itvwas concluded the tail would not take it.

The daring days in so may ways, when the men were all men, despite the UN.
