I use Pica pencils in my tool bags and have carpenters pencil kicking around my workshop. Like you though, I just sharpen them with a knife. Bought a pack of 10 of them about 15 years ago and still have 8 left.
I’ve been mechanical for quite some time. I have a box full of regular and carpenter pencils that will likely be all I’ll need while I’m on this earth 😂 Stores give them out all the time.
I use one on my framing bags it fits well on the lip of badgers or ocl fat lip setup. That being said I know framers that use it since it's hard to loose it since it's Soo huge and lasts to the end of time. What I did with mine is they sell black and white pencils which are curella Deville black on one side white on the other and for that it's useful. (Pica classic 546) The purpose of a white pencil as carpenter or framers know is to mark on wet pressure treated lumber or dark wood and even idea like veneers. Good luck finding thoes pencils in quality but I like them enough to keep seeking them out.
I've got three of them, these are fantastic...🌟 I'm a fan of classic pencils,i have one in my Right pocket, one inside tool bag and one in my everyday "KWB" pouch which i've cut the sharper and it work great, bought at Hornbach for 7.90€ aprox 10 bucks each ...👍it work better with oval section pencils, not with square ones ❗,(like you showed here)
@@MORGANSMaintenance and that is part of how I found your channel. Me wanting to see review gear and hold it in hand so I could get a better idea about then the standerd product photo that gives you hardly and reference.
I have the complete Pica Sample set and this quiver & pencils were included in the sampler set. I agree, it’s kinda clumsy & useless. I Love the 3030 and Pica deep markers
Hard pass for me too. I’ll stick with my orange .20 cent carpenter pencil. Good enough for my grandfather who was a Seabee and a builder his entire life- good enough for me.
👍👍.. I do like the mechanical versions, but sometimes I feel nostalgic and like to get out the carpenter pencil. I have a box full and don’t think I’ve ever bought one 😂
I can understand people using carpenter's pencil. Nothing beats that it's flat, thus allowing easy scribing. But after I've started using Pica, I stopped using wooden pencils. So a quiver is a no for me. Not to mention that the first thing I used to do with carpenter's pencils was to cut them in half, so they were shorter. Way too short for that quiver. For really precise marking (tiles, cabinets etc.) I use Pentel GraphGear 1000 with 0,5 mm lead.
I’ve nearly gone 100% mechanical.. I was going to put this in my vest to hold different types of pencils when framing, but it wasn’t what I expected. (It’s my fault though… I bought based of pictures instead of reading 😂)
@@MORGANSMaintenance I could equip a small army of contractors with tools I bought without reading the descriptions. Some of them are ok, some I prefer not to mention :)
Not for me either. Reminds me of a potato peeler trying to sharpen it. Try the Pica 6060 Big Dry For construction. It's the regular Pica 3030 that you have but in a flatter carpenter pencil shape. Also has different color leads like the 3030.
I'm mainly looking for a holster for carpenter pencils. I already use the 3030 for smaller projects and sketching when crafting. Does anyone make just a compact sheath for carpenter pencils? Or should I buy this and cut it so it'll fit my tool belt.
As for this orange Pica Ink. I had mine for 3 weeks, flipped the tip numerous times, but this marker is shit. Today it went straight to trash accompanied by many elaborate Polish swear words.
Yeah, the mechanical ones you just put the lead in and get a really nice point. These are just for regular pencils. I get that they had to keep people from cutting their fingers… but it’s a bit of a pain.

Yeah it would work on bigger setups.. i just didn’t expect it to be so big (I only looked at the picture, didn’t really read any details)
I should read the comments before I make mine lol. You just confirmed what I thought 😂

I did notice it seemed to sharpen better with the one that came with it... go figure 😂😂
I bet they would work a lot better clipped to a bigger style construction tool belt pouch that rides lower. For like framers etc
Yeah, I’m sure some people could use it just fine. It was my fault buying from a picture instead of reading 😂

A horses head sized pencil holder, lol

I’m the same. I have the red marker and several 3030’s… they are all really good

The original 3030 is the go to
I like those and the Hultafors 👍

I have seen that one too.. may try it at some point 👍
Everyone always eye balling my pica have to keep track of it

@@MH-nu4ip I don’t know of one, but maybe someone else can help you out on here
That is comically gigantic. Your hands look like kid hands 😂
I now… it’s the biggest pencil I’ve ever seen 😂
Lol, watch everyone start using massive pencils, maybe a basketball player that’s 6’9 with double our hands!
It’s the Shaq-O-Pica 😂
@@MORGANSMaintenance it surely is 😂

😂😂... I have only used the pencils and the red "pen" type. So far those have all worked well. This option is the first Pica for me that was a No-Go
Sounds quiet again, intro and ending loud in comparison.
I had filmed this one a few days ago already, I believe I have it fixed now. Hopefully will be right on the next one.
This is kinda awful lol. Some random orange one's I bought came with a sharpener that worked like a normal one you twist in.

that aint right.
It’s a bit big for me 😂 … but some people may love it.
not for me too
👍👍
Nope…not for me
I can use it now that I cut it, but I would have rather just not bought it.
too bulky
Agree
