You answered the question I hadn't been able to get answered.... the speakers ARE removable. My plan is to use a single earbud that's built for both left and right channels in my left ear and only use it when I need comms. Otherwise I prefer my ears uncovered. If I need comms, I'll stick it in my ear, if not, it will just hang. Nice review. It also showed that the mic is long enough even on a 1/2 helmet!
I used speaker pockets. They can be purchased at Harley or on Amazon for less $$$. I have been working on something that is easy to remove or just move out of the way for short rides. Depending on the material on the inside of the helmet straps, you can actually Velcro the speakers to the straps. Speakers have Velcro on them from the factory. This was my first ever review video for anything! Pretty cool that sena suggested my link!! Let me know if I can help any further!!
I used the Harley pockets. A friend just ordered the Vega's and will be in this week. I'll let you know on that. Once I figured something out with the pockets, I'll share them too. They seem to be similar to Harley brand which slide between liner and shell and don't move at all!
I used the removable speaker pockets from Harley. You can also get a pair from Amazon for less than $20. With this unit, you can plug up 3.5mm ear buds if you wish. I personally don't care for earbuds while riding because I like to hear what is going on around me. I'm going to try to make my own speaker pockets that Velcro into the lining of the helmet that aren't as big as the speaker pockets from Harley. The clarity of the Sena 20S is awesome. No wind noise at 70+ mph
Justin Hendrix How is your call/communication quality with the 20s on the half shell? Toying with the idea, yet apprehensive. Specifically, how well are you heard (mic) vs how well do you hear (speakers) at highway speed?
Glenn Ward I have no complaints about sound/mic quality. I can talk to someone on the phone at 70 mph and the person that I'm talking to has no idea that I'm on the bike. Zero wind noise whatsoever. I have never had to turn up the volume to max...in fact, there are times that I have to turn it down so it doesn't blow my ears. You will NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.
thanks for this video! I was told I needed to settle for lesser communications because sena 20S and Cardo was not compatible with half helmets. this will be a big help. thanks again.
Lynn Michel no problem!! The only issue is how to mount the speakers...I got some soft Velcro and some snap buttons. Put snap buttons on the ear straps of the helmet and on the Velcro so I could remove them if needed. Then just Attach the speakers to the Velcro and cut for a smooth design. Less "bulky" than the speaker pockets from Harley and it also lets air through as well!
Will this fit a Harley Davidson Big Twin Helmet? I am getting conflicting responses from the dealer and Reveille...I already have a 20S Sena unit...just looking to get the clamp kit
Justin, when you get those speaker pockets designed please share them. I hate to waste money on pockets I will not be happy with. Did you try the Vega speaker pockets? If so, do they slip into the liner area? Hard to tell from the 1D picture.
Jon Acord you can purchase speaker pockets from Harley or through amazon. However, the ones on amazon that I tried were extremely thick and hot during warm weather. I ended up buying Velcro and snap fasteners and snapping the Velcro to my helmet straps and attaching the speakers via the Velcro.
Justin Hendrix , ended up purchasing the Echo Products 03-001 Universal Audio Ready Ear Warmer from Amazon. I have the 20S and put on a 3/4 Helmut but bought the universal helmet kit for the 20S for my 1/2 helmet, which I wear 99% of the time with the Georgia heat. If they don't seem to work well I will go a different way. SENA carries come for their 1/2 helmet but say they don't know if it will fit any half helmet........, thanks
Thanks, ended up getting some from Amazon, and I am like you, that feeling of my ears being covered and muffled isn't a good feeling. Am going to look for some kind Velcro and snap fasteners also
Jon Acord I have installed quite a few on helmets for other people using the Velcro and snap fasteners. Once installed and measure up for placement on ears, you can trim the Velcro around the speakers and snaps. That will make it feel like the only thing there is the speakers. Plenty of air flow!!! Good luck and thanks for watching!!!
The speakers have great audio quality. More than enough volume to hear at highways speeds. The "sidetone" and "audio boost" setting in the ON position help as well.
Thanks for posting the video. Have you used this on a bike without a windshield or fairing? I was wondering if a person can hear you talking while on the phone at interstate speeds.
It would've been nice to have had the reconnecting of the speaker connections to the headset. Not sure why you removed the tiny screw to remove the speaker connection. Was that really necessary? Please advise ASAP. Thank you.
Don Hand I removed the screw to be able to fully disconnect the speakers. Made for easier installation without dragging the mic clamp all over the place while running wires. Check comments in this thread about how I attached the speakers with snap fasteners and Velcro. I was undecided when I shot the video
OK. How well does the mic work when riding at highway speeds? Does it have the noise canceling feature? Did you position the speakers UNDER the interior lining of your helmet?
Would you be willing to connect by phone for just a couple of minutes? I'm really considering this setup as a possibility but have a few more objects of clarification. PLMK and I'll drop my phone # here. Thanks!
Justin thanks for taking the time to do this. My 20s' are on the way and when I wrote Sena during the contemplation stage, they recommended your link!! How did you mount the speakers? Keggers
Harley makes a Sena Boom set especially for half helmets. That's why you don't find many videos on installing your unit on half helmets. Your unit is mainly for full face helmets. The Harley version is a plug and play!
Paul Revere at the time that I made this video, they only had the “over the ear” version of sena. I liked the features in the 20S and decided to go with this unit. It has worked flawlessly since installing and still use it today!
tinamean1 I can hear audio with no issues at all...even at highway speeds. Be sure the “sidetone” settings are set up correctly! People on the other end don’t believe me when I tell them that I am on the bike...
Do you recommend the 20s? Or should I get the 30k? Mainly used to talk to my passenger and listen to music while we ride! Phone call every once in awhile. How’s the quality at 55mph? 80mph? We both have half helmets looking to mount it the same way
I HIGHLY recommended the 20s! They would be perfect for what you are wanting. At 80 MPH, whoever you are talking to will not know you are on the bike unless you tell them. The clarity on both ends of a phone call is nothing short of amazing. I was surprised....you will be too
Dan Lindemuth Yes! You have some adjustment by where you place the unit on the helmet, but it works mounted directly above the ear! For the speaker mounting, I used a 2” Velcro and snap fasteners. Attach Velcro to helmet straps with snap fasteners in desired position....the Velcro on the back of the speakers will attach to velcro now in the helmet straps, then trim around speaker for a clean look. Allows for good airflow during warmer weather and works great!!!
Justin Hendrix that’s a really good idea too! I actually was trying to eliminate wind noise on my ears as much as possible so I was considering ear pads with speaker pockets. The basic lol. www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0041EM072/ref=ox_sc_act_image_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1.
Dan Lindemuth those will work for whatbyou are wanting. They will get hot in summer. Check out the harley speaker pockets....they aren’t padded like the ones on amazon. It’s all personal preference!
My wife and I have read almost all the comments. My wife asked (before she went to bed) "where and how did you run the f***ing wires" lol. Just kidding. You're video really helps but I'm serious about the question of wire running. Are the wires just run up into the crown of the helmet? Thanks.
There are a couple of ways you can run them. Either under the soft padding of the helmet or between the outer shell and the protective foam layer. It is a tight fit, but most will give enough to push wires into place
I have used these on a half helmet. The problem I have run into is the Voice activated mic continuously opens and all you here is wind in the speakers continuously. Even when you crank the Vox setting to the lowest setting the wind still activates the mic. Anyone else having this issue or know how to solve this problem?
Tad LeRoy I think you problem comes from the tap to activate feature. I forget the actual name of the feature but it’s where you can tap the outside of the unit to bring up voice commands. I disabled it on a friend of mines and it fixed his problem.
I've also seen a plastic piece that came with the older SMH10, And clipped to the front side of the mic. This prevented the mic from opening with the wind noise. I imagine something serving the same purpose would do the trick. Or, you could try a bigger wind sock over the mic.
How the hell do you hear anything besides wind ? How can the microphone work ? I am confused. Is this for child's 15mph moped or a disabled person on power chair ? Where is the test of this on a motorcycle at 70mph please. I am really curious how the person on other end of phone observe quality of sound.
What Am I Gonna Get ? The people on the other end of the line can’t even tell that I am on the motorcycle. They have noise canceling mics in them that work extremely well. No complaints and still is it every time I ride
Thanks , nobody does half shell videos, much appreciated

The video is very good, except you left out the important step of setting in the speakers for ear placement.
Chris Caliente at the time of the video, I wasn't sure how I was going to place the speakers. Check comments below for a text description
Chris Caliente look under comment by Lynn Michael
okay thanks for the quick reply.

how is the audio sound with the speakers in the pockets while you are riding the bike. I really don't want to were ear buds as well.
@justin I know you did this video a while ago do you have any pics of the setup you did on the speakers without the ear flaps.
I used the removable speaker pockets from Harley. You can also get a pair from Amazon for less than $20. With this unit, you can plug up 3.5mm ear buds if you wish. Thank. My HJC-IS helmet doesn't have the v strap, but I'll figure it out.
Watched the video. I'm going to try that with my HD headset and my half helmet. How does it work
what did you use to mount the speakers to the helmet?
Will this fit a Harley Davidson Big Twin Helmet? I am getting conflicting responses from the dealer and Reveille...I already have a 20S Sena unit...just looking to get the clamp kit
Thanks for the install vid, Just what I was looking for my half before buying the dual pack.
Glad it was able to help you!!

Question? At 10:10 it shows some kind of ear flap that I assume your speakers are in. Where did you get that.

@@jhendrix226 Any chance you could show your snap fastener velcro setup? Not sure what you're getting at.
Good video! Just ordered my 2 pack 20S! Cheers!!
Madman Martan you will love em!! 🍻

utubey they will be able to hear you with very little wind noise on their end. Rider may be the one that will have a hard time hearing.

Good to go where? Where are the headphones.?
Marco Polo I used Velcro and snap fastners.
How did it sound, with it being a half helmet?

I like your helmet also. What is the make of your helmet. I can see the hybrid on the back, but can't figure the rest of it out. Thanks for the video.
