Let me know what you guys think about the 'Try Hard Take Chances' t-shirt! I'm kind of in love with it! Also, anyone notice that the Hero 8 actually looked a little better than the Hero 9 at night? Interesting...
cool, I got hero8 and for now I have not decided to get a hero 9, (budget wise though :D ) but I agree for the settings at night, seems my hero 8 does more cool
Hey David, reeeeeally like the way you present all your videos, the music, the jokes, the faces, the humor, the tech stuff and you personal opinion on things. Also, started following you (subsc + notif on) about a month ago (even though I've been watching without subscribing, liking or commenting for over a year, something I decided to change) and started to watch your episodes with maximum 8 hours after you upload the vid, following your recommendation if I wanted to get prizes here. The result of all that? I enjoy my free time by having fun around here! Thanks mate! PS.: If you do decide to make a batch of those T-shirts, please remember this brother-from-another-mother right here, ok?! Warm regards, Mark Will.

There's one other thing you can change. I prefer to keep the iso at 800. You can break the 180 rule and match your shutter speed. Shoot in 30 fps, and set shutter at 30. This is a better looking image. I actually think motion blur looks more natural when you match be the fps, not double it. There are videos on TH-cam comparing this. Check it out

Side note: tomorrow is my last day at this job as my department got closed down, so hopefully I get a good payout to get a computer to start editing and be the land-locked, Canadian prairies, version of our man David 😂😂👏👏
I know in general filming at night just isn't the greatest, but I do a lot of night snowboarding (on and off of lit runs) so would you suggest any different settings given that fast movement will always be in play? Thanks for all of the detail in your video!
I love your help in letting me explore this new media capabilities. I would like a recommendation for editing the movies I make with my 9. I may purchase an 11 if it’s needed. I’m 72 years old and need software easy to use to make videos .
Thank you for all the instructions. I just got my gopro 9 recently. Yes, I heard enough about gopro can't shot good night scene but I know because they don't understand day and night always have different settings way.
thank you, i only ever do low light! also... my personal saying is “everything is simple, but nothing is as straightforward as it seems”... guess which of us is the extrovert!
So I'm a doordash driver. Trying to find a budget gopro camera to strap on my head when delivering. Mainly when I pick up the order and drop off that's it. Doesn't need to be the best of quality as long as you can see a house number and is good enough to maybe make a video. Can you change these kind of settings on budget cameras? Or is this only for gopros?
WOW very nice so I have Hero 8 and on Sunday going to drive and see Christmas Lights, going to try this. Also would it make sense if I make ISO MIN 1600 and MAX 1600? Or just leave it at ISO MIN 100 and MAX 1600?
I know its a late comment that may never get read. After extensive testing, I wanted a preset that can traverse from bright daylight into dimly lit interiors. As stated in the video the GoPro will apply 360degree shutter causing too much motion blur and 1/48 is a good shutter, however if filming out into the daylight that shutter is way too slow, my work around/compromise for this is to leave shutter on auto and film at 60fps. this way I can shoot in daylight and when I go indoors the shutter is allowed to drop to 1/60. Yes I loose a little light compared to 1/48. If only GoPro had a setting for minimum shutter speed instead of locking the shutter when in manual mode.
That would be amazing for any of these action cameras to give us more control like that! For me, when we’re outdoors, I let the shutter be at auto, then when we move indoors I adjust the shutter speed manually to the 180 rule. Annoying to have to switch back and forth, but definitely helps with the stabilization!
I'll take a shirt! Shooting the POV of a dog at night with Christmas lights, let's see how this will look! Thanks again for this video! Taking chances!
Love the video man I shoot test drive videos at night with my go pro hero 8 but 4k60fps and sometimes it looks way too dark. This video really helped me!
Great video! Thanks for going into so much detail. What would be the best settings for filming with the GoPro inside a house at night (Lots of lights on/Christmas tree lights as well)?
These same settings should work great for you! Unfortunately, the GoPro don't have a lot of options when going low light. And even though it doesn't seem like it, indoors is still considered low light for that cam👍
Okay so I just watched your video and I'm basically hopping the presets to my 9 & 10.. I do have one question regarding hypersons now I know you said you leave it on but my question is on the 10 what level of hyper smooth do you set yours to if you have to leave it on? Boost, standard, high???
Really helpful video, thank you! We shot the inside of a castle for next week and we had to move very slowly to minimise motion blur. Going to be trying this trick now!
I keep hearing about freezing on the gopro line for awhile now. How much does this happen and is it frequent enough to discourage buying this? Is there a setting that causes this to happen more?
I did a video with the time warp mode and then did an intro in standard and the lighting in time warp was amazing and bright, the standard mode was just dark.
recently got the go pro. going out on a bike at night. having blur in my videos. gotta test ur settings now. i did 4k 24fps i think. shutter left in auto, so that introduced blur. gotta change it and try again. thanks.
Many Thanks for the tips! I've had mixed feelings about using a GoPro at night - Most videos I've seen on YT haven't looked that great, but every now and then someone posts a really nice-looking one that makes me wonder if it might be okay to try it. I'll hopefully be getting a GoPro in October and will try some night sessions using your settings :)
@@OrganicSoap77 Have used the GoPro quite a few times at night, and unless it's total darkness, the footage looks fine. I live/ride in a downtown area mostly, so there's streetlights and illumination from businesses pretty much all around.

For photos possibly. Gopro strength is the video. Gopro 9 with the right night time settings works great but just like any thing you going to have to post process to get best results.

I will try your setting. I just bought the HERO9 and used it in my last race. My footages before dawn are noisy and blurry. Thanks for sharing your secret, bro.
Hello I'm ready to buy my first little GoPro action camera and I watched your video regarding the night settings and comparison between Hero 9 & Hero 8 series. Apart from a sports camera I'd like to use this little guy also for some nice cinematic footage, I might use a gimbal mount as well probably for lower light situations. My question is do you recommend to buy the Hero 8 or the Hero 9 model? I cannot notice any significant differences between the 2 models at low light however I need the more stability to get at an average usage. Does the Hero 9 have more blacks on the low light situations? Am I seeing quite well? Are the 2 cameras performing the same more or less in terms of stable footage at low light situations? Sorry for questions shooting but I do not have any past experience with GoPro's before, thus your opinion and recommendation is more than welcome for me!
Hi David, great life motto on a shirt. I enjoy your videos. You give me confidence. Can you make a video on how to use GoPro 8 or 9 as a webcam? I tried to watch other presenters... sigh... Most left out the basic info. First I figured out that I had purchased GoPro without an sd micro disk. What can I say??? This is my first ever webcam purchase. My bad. ;) Then I found out, after much struggle, etc, that I had to upgrade to Windows 10. Okay I was in the dark ages. So two days of upgrading. So now I'm in the 21st century. Definitely a bonus!! Then I found out that I need to have a 3.0 usb cable, cause if you don't have one of those, all you get is the GoPro logo in Zoom. So I ordered one of those last night. It took me a long time to figure out that I needed the 3.0 cable. That happened last night. I remember at some point thinking... David wouldn't have told us this stuff, VERY simply!!! I actually did a search for David Manning GoPro as a webcam, and nothing came up. Maybe others are having the same trouble?? Oh and also... Thank you for the video about the Neewer accessories pack. I don't think it's going to work well for that, but it might be your best option. For nighttime shooting, a larger sensor on a bigger rig is going to get you the best results, but a bigger rig for sure won't work for running. Yeah, I think this is your best bet!
