Send me over some tenderloin and a couple rib eye please, thanks ;-) lol interesting video didn't think it would be that hard getting the cow in there but I guess the cow knows its near the end.
You should attach flange bearings to the sides of the trailer, near the front. Weld a wheel rim to the center of some pipe. Run a rod through the bearings and the piece of pipe. On the outside of the trailer attach a crank to the pipe. Attach rope to rim. Attach rope to cow. Start cranking.
Tricky business catching and loading a single beast. Good idea catching and haltering it in the shelter and then using the skid steer to bring it to the trailer, I did think that you might just lose it at the last moment by the trailer when I saw it turn towards the white truck, but the mission was eventually successfully accomplished with some pushing and shoving from yourselves!
Poor cow :-( But at least she won't just be slaughtered and then tossed in the trash like most of the meat in the market. I can't even imagine how many animals are slaughtered, rot on the market shelves for a few days, and then are tossed in the trash.
God Bless to your whole family and hope everything works out for your sister and she beats the cancer. Good vid and let the veggies have their day as they don't have much of a life if this is all they have to do all day.
prayers for your sister Wendy, maybe you did and we couldn't see it but I would have put the blue bucket inside trailer once you got it at tailgate. fwiw
At least you didn't have to run a rope right through the man door at the front of the trailer, and tow the cow in with another truck. saw a guy do that with a stubborn animal they had tried loading 2 days in a row, when I was at a farm fixing a tractor. Guy said it was the best steak they ever had when it came back. The animal had a reputation in the herd for being permanently difficult!. Guess they fixed that problem.
I would suggest some kind of wind guard. They're not super expensive, espeically if you're gonna be doing a lot of these videos. It'd really help with outdoor audio recording.
Awesome video, I needed a good laugh and I got it! Dang tame pet cows, hard to move where you want aren't they. Your dad walks like an ol broken down saddlebronc rider .Haa great family fun!
Reminds me of getting the cows on the trailer for 4H shows, some of them were a pain to get on the trailer on the other hand we had a few older cows all I had to do was say showtime girls and they come running and jump right in the trailer.
As always, a good video! I found your cows really nice, and you're right, those animals stay where they want to! But it would be hard for me to raise animals like these to taking them to the butcher ^^ I'm too sentimental. I wish the best for your sister and your familly, take care!
oh, so you are taking her to someone to butcher it. It is a lot of work to do it by yourself. It takes me an entire day for that size animal pretty much just using the hoist and knives.
For the people that curse on here . shame on you they are only trying to make a living and frankly they're doing just fine also without farmers the world would live off crack and meth
One of my friends who has a farm showed me once how they do it;the young cow(about 2 years) was shot right between the eyes, fell instantly and we hang her by her feet with the tractor's loader all the way up.Then the butcher came with his knives and started to cut the flesh from the meat and bones.I participated by cutting some of the pieces with a wood saw!
hey i have been working on a farm for the last few years and i want to start farming on my own in a few years and i was wondering how i could start farming and what would be good starting equipment and crops to grow
+chippawa riders (farm boy 88) Been there, done that. Try buying a few cattle of mixed ages from youngsters through to old cows and calves, that way, you will be turning money over fairly quickly and getting the financial returns a farm of any scale needs quickly. As fir the cropping side, once you have chosen your area to farm in, take a drive around and see what the other growers are growing, chances are, they are the crops that do well in that particular area.
Years ago (1970s)we took cows, hogs, etc. to local processing plant as it was easier than doing it yourself. Custom at the time was to shoot animal in head to kill. ASPCA got involved and decided that was cruel to the animal. New procedure was to hang by back feet/hooves and lifted clear of floor to hang over drain. Throat was then cut for blood drainage. Not too pleasant, was it? Visit any meat processing plant and you'll see similar practices. Your Big Mac burger started out similarly. If you want to eat meat get used to this. Having grown up on the farm, I've seen a lot of this. Big mistake will be to get a young animal to raise with intention to processing for meat. Don't let the kids make a pet of it. Things won't end pleasantly.
I think you have your facts mixed up. Throat slitting is a kosher slaughter method, and more economic than shooting when you are processing thousands of animals per day. Non-kosher slaughter houses use captive bolt guns, which in my opinion, are the most human way, provided the worker hits the right spot.
ronaldt491 i think its absolutely disgusting to kill any living thing any other way except shooting them in the head. shooting them in the head is the most humanely way of killing an animal its a slow painful death slitting a throat then letting them bleed out. i think it should be illegal in this country to kill any animal by throat cutting, pressurized air guns that knock them out or whatever. the only way that should be accepted is a bullet to the head. its fast, and painless. not to mention much cheaper.
"Please Mr Farner, I don't wanna go!" Tim was inside the trailer, pulling on the lead? Idle curiosity- do you have wild hog problems in NJ the way we do southwestern Ohio? These complainers have no sense of humor and don't realize you were teasing Tim. Granted, you probably do it too often, but I doubt if his feelings were hurt.
natti 93 we live in a world where animal cruelty is everywhere we look. Almost everyone is cruel to animals. Pretty hard to avoid...therefore people who care must stand up for animals being used.
i think of it this way, a cow's life involves waking up, eating, relaxing, then eating more, then relaxing more, then eating more, some sex, eating more, drinking some water, sleeping, and then eating some more lol, and then one day a trailer comes and hauls it away and its gets a knock in the head and thats that lol i wouldnt mind that life myself
sstroh08 I was born and raised on the family farm 40 - 60 years ago. About once a year we kill a cow for beef. Sometimes the butcher didn't knock them in the head. They will take a rifle and kill the cow that way. If you was a cow, which way do you want end your life.
killing cattle was my first off the farm job it takes 45 min from kill to washed and hanging depending on the person 7 to 14 days of hanging the longest I seen was 43 days and 1 hour to cut up.
What a bunch of idiots. They chase a cow around and finally rope it, then have to use a tractor to lead it to a trailer. Then they have to physically put it into the trailer. Why don't they just use a ramp and lead the cow into the trailer? Dumb. Didn't see why they had to keep moving the bucket either. This was meant to be a comedy, I hope.
one cow is like you see the big young one, he is looking at us like we are food, lol, all in good fun, have done his many times, kill the good one for us for beef for the year and the rest to market.
I spend a lot of time around the cows they are almost like dogs now if I call they come running it's obviously different for you not being to involved with livestock and more involved with the jay business but I've done what your doing plenty of times definitely have to be patient and just when you think you got them oops nah we are gonna go back where we started haha
I have a butcher shop in pa around Westchester I also have a 1978 jd 4040 with 1,700 hrs it needs trans work. That I planed on doing when the weather got better. I may need some help maybe we could work something out????
your cows are way tamer then ours are, no way ours would let you put a halter on em, and when u guys were shoving her into the trailer ours would of been kicking and bellowing and trying to raise hell lol, whats your secret?
Veganism is a sect. Telling humans are herbivore despite all the proofs. Sure dude, that why we need so much protein and vegan have often to give up their sect for medical reason lol Enjoy killing the planet with your gmo soy !
You sure make life hard for yourselves not having a ramp on your trailer.I've never encountered a European cattle trailer which did not have ramps no matter how low it was.
they dont make ramps for the trailers here cause you dont need them... if you have a narrow runway they go in easy... being it was in the open and with all the snow the cow had to be brought to the trailer...Done it lots of times..
Woweee. Harsh comments, thx. Just the same. It's life people, get a GRIP. Remember, SOMEONE KNEW how to MOLD GRANITE like CLAY. Powder dry &stick on ice!!!!!!!!
I dont blame the cow. You want it to move away from the wind break of the hay bales for a breezy pen? I too would go back to shelter. Now if that trailer were heated, I bet that cow would mosey on in there to get out of the cold. Just my opinion ( not a cow farmer ).
the cold doesnt bother em too much, their fur coat and then the hide itself is so thick they dont really feel it i dont think, with ours snow will actually build up on them during a storm because they let so little heat out of their coats, they are creatures of habit and if something that isnt routine is going on it freaks em out and they get all skittish like they were in the video
I don't miss that part of raising livestock.
Anyone else notice Tim near the end didn't get his handshake. Damn son. Haha
you know it's cold out when even the molasses dosnt want to come and play.
As always, great video. My thoughts & prayers, are for your sister & family. Two of my children, youngest son & oldest daughter had the same thing.
Amen Klaire! I Could Not Have Said It As Good As You Just Did!!!
Sorry cow, your time is up. Burgers are awesome. Circle of life.
That's what I said when you were conceived... Lmao!!!
+TH-cam5000 i know right ,,hahahahahah laughed my ass off as well .
Send me over some tenderloin and a couple rib eye please, thanks ;-) lol interesting video didn't think it would be that hard getting the cow in there but I guess the cow knows its near the end.
I love to do home butchering. it brings out the pioneer spirit on me.......... I hope your sisters treatments go well.

tell your sister to keep a positive out look on life, it worked so far for me (9 years so far) and still cancer free.
Poor cow :-( But at least she won't just be slaughtered and then tossed in the trash like most of the meat in the market. I can't even imagine how many animals are slaughtered, rot on the market shelves for a few days, and then are tossed in the trash.
hahaha, thats the funniest cattle catch av seen in years"good one wes..
I thought they were gonna just pick the old heifer up with the skid-steer hahaha
Could have put the bucket of feed with the molasses in the trailer. Would have walked right in I bet.
LOL tim gets left hangin at 6:32.
Prayers are with your family and sister
God Bless to your whole family and hope everything works out for your sister and she beats the cancer. Good vid and let the veggies have their day as they don't have much of a life if this is all they have to do all day.

HOLY COW ! they don't moooove to easy.
Reminds me of getting the cows on the trailer for 4H shows, some of them were a pain to get on the trailer on the other hand we had a few older cows all I had to do was say showtime girls and they come running and jump right in the trailer.
that was funny the fast forwarding
what was that about molasses and feed getting them in the trailer?

Used to teach our 4H steers how to lead by towing them around behind the pickup. They got the idea and then we could do it without being drug around
I tell yah Wes your a real sweetheart Tim was like what the hell did he just say

Not to be a know it all or anything but you should try and hook the truck up first so the trailer doesn't moves or that is how the cowboys do it.
Sorry to hear about your sister.
YUM fresh cow
Benny Hill action lol
Was this video titled wrong? I think it should have been titled cow to load a cow in a cattle trailer.
It's not what's for dinner; it's who's for dinner. Shameful industry making Hannibal Lecter look completely sane
A word of warning: do not stand directly behind the cow whew handling it; it may kick you if it becomes frightened or disgruntled.
Very stubborn cows. Never seen such a stubborn cow in my life. lol
Poor Tim
Now I'm hungry.
update on the 4960 pleasssseeee ?
You left him hanging. He had he had his hand out. oh ye poor cow. Burger anyone.

what is tims middle name? did you say taylor at the end of that video. my name is Timothy taylor @onelonleyfarmer
why do vegans so often feel the need to post anti animal product stuff under every Video about meat? you saw the title before! just dont watch it!
natti 93 we live in a world where animal cruelty is everywhere we look. Almost everyone is cruel to animals. Pretty hard to avoid...therefore people who care must stand up for animals being used.
Doug Las it’s not cruel to animals when they don’t feel it
Poor cow! - Oh, well the life of cow, turns into steaks.
i think of it this way, a cow's life involves waking up, eating, relaxing, then eating more, then relaxing more, then eating more, some sex, eating more, drinking some water, sleeping, and then eating some more lol, and then one day a trailer comes and hauls it away and its gets a knock in the head and thats that lol i wouldnt mind that life myself

its been killed yesterday and it will hang for a couple of days then they will call me at the end of the week.
onelonleyfarmer
not bad, thats actually quicker then I thought
killing cattle was my first off the farm job it takes 45 min from kill to washed and hanging depending on the person 7 to 14 days of hanging the longest I seen was 43 days and 1 hour to cut up.
upperpeninsulafarmer is there any other reason to hang said beef other then letting the blood etc run out?
northstar2007 makes the meat more tender to eat like butter and 43 days is over kill 14 is just fine
farmer? yes. cowboy? hes never herd of one. i could have gotten that cow loaded without a problem by myself
What a bunch of idiots. They chase a cow around and finally rope it, then have to use a tractor to lead it to a trailer. Then they have to physically put it into the trailer. I spend a lot of time around the cows they are almost like dogs now if I call they come running it's obviously different for you not being to involved with livestock and more involved with the jay business but I've done what your doing plenty of times definitely have to be patient and just when you think you got them oops nah we are gonna go back where we started haha

Maybe ill get a steak off those cows lol
You're new to this aren't you? My dad and I would have had that steer in the trailer in about 5 minutes. Without dragging it with a skidsteer. lol
How do you all sleep at night. Eat beans and fruits. You will feel better and look better. Cows have rights.
Eat beans and fruit??Wow i might aswell comit suicide, cause if i don't eat i would die either way so you coment is just wow,go to school!!

How not to handle an animal :-(
