    So much good information, especially for a newbie mixed media person! After a few years of making nice, but somewhat balanced cards, I'm now exploring looser techniques. I appreciate your videos and the time it took to produce such a lovely tutorial.

    So much fun! I love my gelatos. To seal them, use a paintbrush. You can do it with gel medium too, not just the liquid. But as long as your paintbrush is dry the color doesn’t move at all. I put the matte medium on my work surface (not directly on my project) because in my experience it makes them wet & then the color will move. Then I dip my brush in the medium & bring it to the paper. It seals the gelatos wonderfully, & you don’t move or lose any of the color.

    So pretty. Anytime you want to fix something water soluble with a matte or gloss medium, use a large flat paintbrush and stroke it over once only. Not back and forth. Or use a spray acrylic fixative. Hope this helps.❤️

    I bought a couple of the Faber Castell Gelatos that were on clearance at Michael's & had no idea how or what they were used for!!🤣Yup, you heard right, didn't know what they were or why, but HAD to have them!! I was wondering if you could use them in adult coloring books for backgrounds?? Im relatively new to the coloring craze, but really open minded to different supplies to use. If anyone has any suggestions on how to use these for backgrounds in coloring books it would be greatly appreciated!! Also, do you always have to use water to blend the Gelatos??? Thanks so much for sharing your talent & creativity!! I'm so glad to have found your channel & look forward to future videos!!💜

      My parents actually got me some gelatos not knowing what they were but that I would figure it out. From what I've been able to tell, you can mix them with your finger, but it will be a lot messier and using water makes the pigment flow a lot smoother. I found this video looking for inspiration but something I'll recommend is getting some texture paste and you can get a hand-made stencil (cut into a piece of cardstock), a custom stencil (use a circuit and cut some neat designs into a sheet of cardstock), or buy a stencil from the store.

    Wow, those cards are beautiful.... I was in my local Michael's a few months ago & randomly bought 4 Singles, because they were on clearance...I didn't know why I needed them 🤣 but at the time I had to buy them.... I have used them on a few cards I made. I am only just starting out, and they are nothing like these .. but watching this really makes me want more now.

    Thank you for this video! I’ve had a bunch of gelatos forever and have been intimidated to try them. One question, I see some people use them on scrapbook pages, but do they actually “set up” enough for this use or will they stay “wet?”

    • @IngridBlackburn
      @IngridBlackburn  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question Angelina. They are highly reactive until set. You'll need to set them with some sort of medium, I usually ise gel medium, but would need to to research archival quality if putting in a scrapbook. If I remember there's an archival spray....hope that helps!! Thanks for watching. 😁😁🎨

    Thanks for the great ideas. Can’t wait to give this ago. I especially want to try the flower. I use fixative workable Matt by Micador on my pastels so might give that a try as it is less messy and a spray. Not sure if it will work but worth a try. I’ll let you know how it goes.

    • @debdance2502
      @debdance2502 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ingrid. The spray worked like a dream and you need so very little and it’s fast. Did use the medium to adhere the flower. I don’t have a lot of bright colours in gelatos so I did 3 backgrounds 2 with Jane Davenport colour sticks and one with Gelatos all worked out really well. Loved playing around with the stencils. Thanks for the great ideas.

    Hi. Are gelatos comparable to Neocolors?

    • @IngridBlackburn
      @IngridBlackburn  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a great question! They are not exactly the same. Gelatos are definitely more on the creamy side where Neocolors are more like a crayon - though CRAZY pigmented and rich in color. Hope that helped! Thanks for watching. 😀😀🎨

      @mumstheword8851 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do gel crayons work similarly to Gelatos?

    • @IngridBlackburn
      @IngridBlackburn  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Marriage Cake That's a great question! First you'll want to seal your gelatos layer before you add your paste. I show my most recent way how in this videos around the 5 min mark: th-cam.com/video/c1GGTPpoXEY/w-d-xo.html With a gel plate and gel medium. If you already added the paste, try spray sealer. I've never made my own matte medium, but I'm sure you can search for that! Thanks for watching! 😁😁🎨

    • @IngridBlackburn
      @IngridBlackburn  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lmaolmfao49 Great question. I do know that gel sticks and Gelatos are similar in consistency and how the work. The biggest difference if that Gelatos were made to be more fade resistant and lightfast for crafters and artists. They also come in a larger range of colors. Hope that helps! :)

    When I’m using other mediums (watercolors, distress oxide inks etc) and I am unhappy with the color saturation (not bright enough) gelatos are my go to fix. They are so saturated...they are always the save when I want something brighter, louder, bolder!

    • @riverbeee9643
      @riverbeee9643 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's so interesting; I have the opposite issue. As a watercolor painter, I find gelatos incredibly weakly pigmented. Perhaps you are using low quality paint? I recommend at least student grade paints like amzn.to/2Jw1JKw.

    Never heard of them..you said its solid pigment..but it acts like water colors. INTERESTING!! The flower looks like it was drawn on card. Mat Medium you used, is that considered the same as modge- podge? I always hearing people say. Mat medium..what is it exactly? All this is new to me. Enjoyed video and maybe would like to try this. Have to check them out. Thanks for sharing. Any special needs to store them? Ty again

    • @IngridBlackburn
      @IngridBlackburn  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Laura! Yes, they are like a chapstick in consistency - creamy, but solid. They are amazing - super pigmented, and one of my favorite mediums to use. That flower card is hands down one of my ALL TIME favorite cards I've ever made. No special needs - just not crazy temperature swings. Mat medium is a fluid or sometimes little glue like thicker consistency medium used to collage or adhere things. Mix it with acrylic colors to achieve varying degrees of matte finish. It's milky white when wet, and transparent and waterproof once dry. It's used as a fixative, sealer and finish. Mod Podge is like a super matte medium. Matte refers to the matte finish it leaves vs. gloss. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching. 😍😘🎨

    What a beautiful card! Thanks for sharing your mistakes. I also think the accidental palette knife gash ended up looking really nice!
    I have no idea what it means to "fussy cut," so I guess I'm out of the loop! lol never was one of the "cool kids" anyways :P

    I've had gelatos for over a year that I bought in a creative frenzy then never used them. Thanks so much for your wonderful and inspirational tutorial. I'm going to get my gelatos and other craft supplies out this afternoon and play!

    I got them a year or 2 ago, but was disappointed with them. Not nice to work with.

    I have played with gelatos, but nothing serious because I didn't really know what I was doing. Thanks for this video, I'll start using gesso and matte medium, which should help greatly. Love that tissue paper technique.
