    From their description i was led to believe this was a brand new film, not a purchased master roll. It was an r&d batch. Since the manufacture they where working with went out of business, they now had to start all over again developing a brand new emulsion

      I believe that's correct, an R&D batch. What I don't know is who made it. I thought it was Ferrania, but they went and announced an Ortho film the other week.

    I think I'll like the characteristics of this filmstock... Will try it in the near future!
    Thanks for the review!

      Thank you and I do, too. I like films that are distinctive and this is one that creates photos that are easy to recognize.

    100% with you, i got the CM200 to support the cause. I love how the curent CHS and CMS feels and i really hope that the new stock Adox comes up with is sort of "new age Ektar". My highest hopes goes for kind of CMS 20 II Pro, but in color. That would be an absolute joy for me as Ektar is my favorite color stock at the moment so it would be interesting to see how the technology advanced since 2008 when it was introduced :)

      I hope that their color film is signaturely Adox. Whatever it is, it'll be interesting to try.

    You're right, this does have that 1970's look. And I'm old enough to have shot film in the 1970's.
    This film looks "alive", while so many films today (I'm looking at you Big Yellow) just look " dead ".
    I hope Adox gets the flaws worked out, but even if they don't, I'm going to be using this film a lot.
    Btw, nice sample images. Excellent composition and so forth.

      Thank you! I am optimistic for Adox, honestly. I tend to think of them as having dedicated and clever staff.

    I love this film. I would love it even more if it was readily available. I paid $50 (film and shipping from Germany) for a roll of this film. Love the color, especially the greens. I think the description Adox gave for this film was 100% accurate. I found Color Mission to be very versatile. It worked very well in every situation I shot. This is in contrast to Cinestill 400D which totally ruined some sunset photos of pale yellows, pinks and oranges but rending them green overall. I hope the next color film developed by Adox is just as good.

      I definitely hope that Adox can release an emulsion they develop. I do think that it would be very good.

    Gives alotta Gold 200 vibes, but everything just slightly better to my eyes, especially the color

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  ปีที่แล้ว

      To my eye it has much heftier grain and stronger greens, but the contrast profile is definitely similar.

      @@DavidHancock aside from the hefty grain, and the bad shadow rendition, otherwise beautiful film, even more so considering its probably not from a major manufacturer. Hopefully Adox can build on it.

    I think it’s really important to mention the scanning process in these videos. A CN film needs to be interpreted by something and a huge part of what makes the look of a film is the scanning process.

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a valid point. For this year and probably a few of the C-41 films into 2024, the scanning is a traditional lab's scan. Old School uses a Noritsu (I forget the model) and those are pretty good. They aren't a drum scanner, sure, but they're good. At some point soon I'll begin developing C-41 at home and when that happens those will be digitized with a DSLR and processed in Photoshop. Right now, though, no photos that meet that description have been used in an All About Film video.

      @@DavidHancock Most of your color shots look a bit under balanced to my eye. Especially in tungsten light. I’m unfamiliar with the Noritsus but to my understanding they have a bit more additional editing options than the Frontiers and profiles. I use a Frontier SP500 and the great thing about that is that it’s color science is matched to their Fujicolor paper. So scans from that give me a very pure interpretation of the negative. It also handles missed exposure quite well. So there is little loss in quality with a stop of underexposure if I just scan the image a little darker. It does have an insane DMax though so that plays a role. I just find that Noritsu scans can look so different from machine to machine. You can do some very light gradation adjustments but pretty much the only thing you can really do is some digital dodging and burning and all the color controls are pretty much CMY density points.
      This is just pertaining to analytical tests off course. Anything for artistic work is a matter of taste.

    Like the grainy look.... but seems like its already sld out?

      Apparently, they have enough to keep restocking for a while, I read. So I would hope it's just a temporary out of stock.

    Half-way through -- these sure look a lot like my Kodak ProImage 100 shots -- do you think that this is a related emulsion?

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I honestly have no idea who actually made this stuff. I had heard the manufacturer went under, so I assumed Ferrania. But then they just announced an Ortho film. I'm hoping that this wasn't made by Orwo. I can't think of anyone else -- Kodak, Fuji, Orwo, and Ferrania -- who do or are trying to make color negative stocks.

      @@DavidHancock -- I pulled up my ProImage 100 shots (box speed, not expired, developed/scanned (highest res) by The Darkroom) -- the color palette looks very similar to my eye, but the grain seems finer in mine, and the contrast a little less -- so the Adox is sort of like a very mildly expired Pro Image 100 -- to my eye....

      It's not orwo/inoviscoat for sure. All their films (Lomo metropolis, purple, turqoise, orwo nc500, nc400) before development have a green looking emulsion side almost like a b/w stock. And after development the film base looks dark almost like it would be fogged. And ofc the films themselves have a very different look to them from this. As well as the fact that they are very much still capable of manufacturing film at the moment. I believe I heard one theory about it being manufactured by Agfa.

      @@aengusmacnaughton1375 I read somewhere--and now can't find the link--that the manufacturer was a small European company that made film for industrial/scientific purposes but not consumer films.
