Thanks for this Tim. I am a river dry fly fisherman trying to learn still water tactics. Just to sit and watch an indicator would bore me to tears. This is why I enjoyed your clip so much by showing us how to work each cast. I am on my local still water tomorrow and looking forward to applying your lessons
Thanks and I'm glad you enjoyed it . Yes there is so much more to fly fishing than watching the bung all day . I'm not adverse to it as it can be very effective at times and also a use full tool for beginners but there is much much more to fly fishing .. Thanks for watching .
I watched this this morning and went off to my local syndicate small water. Never had any confidence with this method .... BUT ... this gave me that confidence AND .... got my bag of 6 fish all by seeing line move - one of them was a 4lb overwintered rainbow. BRILLIANT channel!
@@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 Managed a couple of hours off the bank the other day - managed to find a shield where some bigger fish were holding. Had 4 in total but 2 of them were over 5lbs...absolutely fantastic sport. The only thing that slowed me down was having to re-tie leaders as they took the droppers which ended up with a proper birds nest. Definitely a price worth paying..
Hi Tim. Going out tomorrow, Thursday, to fish a still water loch. Same conditions as you had so many thanks for your informative video. Set me off developing my buzzer skills along the lines you’ve shown. Many thanks, tight lines. Derick.
Hi . Fantastic vid , and of course the fishing. I'm with u on that there is nothing better anticipating the line to shoot away......... and when it does and all hell brakes loose . Just priceless. I love it to on the drys. Waiting on the fish to go up and over on your fly. Just cant get any better . U got a basket of fish and u seem to have picked a cracking day . See u out has just made me decide what I'm doing this weekend . Keep up with the brilliant explanations and your vids. Tight lines. Be safe.
At 11:18 in the film, that take was awesome!!! I appreciate how you film the takes like this. Our lakes over here have a thin layer of ice on them. I’m going crazy for it to thaw. Thanks for the great content.
Its all about the take isnt it ! Takes lot of setting up to get those shots but I think its worth the time ! We have just thawed after a months freeze up and the fishing has gone nuts again !
Outstanding as always Tim, great vidio footage, many thanks for uploading, what a setting.... Only thing missing in your boat is Molly. 🙈🙈🙈. Keep safe. Kind regards Mike Norfolk.
Tim! I misunderstood the title!!! LOL I thought you were fishing buzzers made out of the electronic antistatic bags, which is a thing here, so I didn't watch it. Then yesterday I thought well, that was dumb so I watched and enjoyed it very much. When my eyes were good I used a grease line method, no strike indicator. Now it is an indicator of a vertical presentation six inches off the bottom, straight over the side of the boat. In British Columbia we can only use one fly.
Another fantastic video tim mate good to see u getting out on a boat again absolutley love it couldnt have explained it any better 😁 the way u have the flyline dart away on camera is so cool lol 😎🎣 tht water looks amazing nice fish will need to try it sometime with my dad 😊 ps love the wee backround tune goes perfect with the vid lol ☺️ keep up the good work m8 loving it 👌🎣

Excellent video! It just reminds me to finish tying buzzers to fill my fly box and take a drive to my favorite lake in Nothren Arizona. I have found my success ratio has increased from fishing buzzers, we call them midges or "chromies".
The true washing line is a floater with two buoyant flies point and top dropper and a couple of nymphs in between . This set up with a single buoyant fly and nymphs can be fished on any line but its most effective and best controlled using a floating line or a sink tip / midge tip line .
This is the Wychwood boat seat . Hands down the best seat I have owned and I have had them all ! Strong , lightweight , very comfortable and they dont hold water .. Excellent bits of kit !
I use the Rocket floater , its matches todays modern small water and reservoir rods much better . The Feather down is lovely but better suited for river fishing in my opinion .
@@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 thanks, I've just bought a greys gr60 9ft #6 weight and looking for the right floating line. I generally fish small reservoirs. I do fish on the top / in the surface as much as possible, and wasn't sure if the rocket floater was going to present good.
@@joefowler9600 The rocket is perfect , easy to cast , nice presentation , that little bit of stretch you need in a floater , sits high on the water for easy lift off ... Been my go to for the last 3 years as you can see in all of my vids .
Exactly as you see .. you just have to take the slack up in-between the draws .. careful not to move the buzzers ... the line from the rod tip to the water should hand dead vertical ... any kind of angle there as you pick up the slack means you are moving the line to quick .. takes practice but its worth it . Thanks for watching
8 inches Maximum and often shorter than that . Long droppers dont improve presentation and often lead to constant tangles . Glad you enjoyed the vid , thanks for watching.
Hi Tim! How do you make the first heavy buzzer? Are you using something like flat lead wire to make it heavier compared to the other buzzers ? or is it just one size hook bigger ? Thanks!
@@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 Perfect Tim! Your static buzzers video are total gold ! I have been catching a lot of fish thanks to these tips ! Thanks for sharing this technique !
Great video, I have watched hundreds and don't ever remember a close up of the takes, just to see how the line moves so close up was excellent. Think you should copyright the take lol. Tight lines.
Its the most important but i think .. Until you see it for real its difficult to visualise .. There really is nothing like watching that line snake away ! Thanks for watching and supporting the channel
Tim, Nicely done video. Thank you for focusing on your technique---it was helpful, indeed. Curious why you go with a 7 wt, rather than a 6wt or possibly even a 5wt for this technique. Again, thank you.
Thanks for watching .. lighter rods have their limits . I am cast 4 heavy flies on a flat calm , I need to ensure turnover anything under a 7wt would struggle , also because I am catching and releasing I want to land the fish as quick as possible so as not to tire or over stress which ensures a quick healthy release . Using lighter rods means over playing fish and can lead to recovery problems . Im glad you enjoyed the vid .
Great videos really helping me out.. you have the grey boy on the point ( which I’ve tied up a few from your vid) what size hooks have you used for the other buzzers? Keep up the good work 👍
Size 10s mate , there really is no reason to fish smaller through most of the year . I go to 14s sometimes in the winter on the smaller lakes but reservoirs are always a 10 B175 or similar .
Great vid again and thanks for the links to the flies! Quick question. You’re doing a long pull but then also a very slow figure of eight too. Is this just keeping in contact?
yes .. its not moving the flies at all . In a flat calm the line continues to move towards you so its just to take up the slack no movement of flies . When there is a nice breeze and the boat is moving you need to figure of eight at the exact pace of the boat so as to take in the slack line between draws but not to move the buzzers ... this is the real art of it !
Plastic mesh nets . If your wading I use the wychwood Bankman as it has a spiked handle . If your fishing standard lakes the Wychwood boatman net is brilliant , good size pan , plastic mesh and a decent extending handle .
Pull them off the food ! When fish are on small stuff like tiny buzzer or daphnia its pointless trying to imitate . Instead turn their heads give them something to distract them , this is when boobies and Fabs really come into their own , even a big dry if the fish are high . Blobs and FABs were designed to distract fish from daphnia feeding . Something bright with loads of fuss or noise pulled past them or a great big dry like a sugar cube emerger in a size 10 or 8 .. they just cant resist the opportunity of such a big meal.
@@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 It is early spring, water temperature is 43. Very cold and windy. The only fish I did get, were on a tequila blob. Wouldn't even take a leech. Perhaps I should just wait till conditions warm. Thanks.
If you are targeting one fish then why 4 hooks? I think you need to focus on more skill in order to present the fly to the fish. Instead of hoping for the fish to take one out of 4 hooks.🤔
Because the single most important factor in fly fishing is finding the depth of the fish , by fishing a team I'm not targeting a single fish with 4 flies instead I'm fishing smart and targeting 4 different depths at one time ..... Imagine if you had 4 troll holes on the go at once ? ....
@@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769if you smart you wouldn’t be using 4 hooks and wait for hope on pure blind fishing. A skill fisherman will challenge himself and target one fish one rod one hook one fly one cast. Kind like a sniper. That’s the beauty of fly fishing. 🥋
