Harry wrote and sang as if he was just having a conversation with the listener. He was wonderful.
She lives in a handsome home behind a gate and is ACTING HAPPY.
Yessss....I love that part.
Harry was a well known philanthropist during his career, doing many benefit concerts. He was killed on the Long Island Express in a traffic accident at the age of 38.
Perfection. You got this song superbly as I thought you would. I really enjoyed watching. Thanks again!!
Amazing song! Thanks for watching.
Absolutely! "A Better Place To Be". Another storytelling masterpiece
Thanks for the recommendation.
God, they don't make 'em like that anymore! I'll always miss him and his music. Rest in peace, Harry.
🎊 A songwriter’s songwriter. In his short 38 years of life, Harry painted many a perfect pictures. “A Better Place To Be,” will tug at your heart strings.
One of my favorites by Harry.
yes, one of my faves!
Saw Harry 5 times before he passed. He is my Favorite of all time. He is a genius lyricist in the quality of Dylan IMHO.
If you’ve not heard this one before, there’s a wonderful song by the late singer/songwriter Dan Fogelberg called “Auld Lang Syne”. It's about two former lovers meeting accidentally in a grocery store on New Year’s Eve. It evokes a similar vibe of how we grow apart from people we used to know. The story telling is superb and the music equally so and his voice soothing.
Great request and yes, same melancholy vibes!
I 2nd (3rd?) this request!
@@steveullrich7737 that is a great one. Good suggestion.
Not yet, but it is on my to do list. Looking forward to it. Thanks!
Your remark about appreciating talent while being somewhat envious was so honest. Using that as a positive instead of a negative shows true character. Learning not copying takes your craft to the next level. This could make you an inspiration to others.
The writing in this song is definitely inspiring and there is a lot to learn from it. Beautiful song.
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. Have a wonderful day.
The enharmonic plucking was to help create the rainy night effect. Chapin was master story teller who made you think and guess. songs like Flowers are Red, Cats in the Cradle, W-O-L-D, Mr, Tanner....Good luck on your writing, you seem like a well read intelligent guy who knows what he wants. Perhaps you can become another John Steinbeck...we need him right now. "I'll be all around in the dark - I'll be everywhere. Wherever you can look - wherever there's a fight, so hungry people can eat, I'll be there. Wherever there's a cop beatin' up a guy, I'll be there. I'll be in the way guys yell when they're mad."
Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on that. Makes more sense for sure!
Cats in The Cradle is amazing! Definitely want to explore more of his music.
Harry Chapin is an amazing story teller ❤😊 this is one of his best IMO. 😊
This is my favorite Harry Chapin song. I relate to it on a very deep level.👍
The best reaction to this song that I have heard. Cheers. "Same old Lang Syne" by Dan Fogelberg is similar and you would enjoy it.
Thanks so much! And for the recommendation!
His songs are written like screen plays. You can visualize the characters and action as you listen to the song.
One of the very best story tellers to die too soon.
"Mr Tanner" from Harry for a very sad but heartwarming tale. "30000 lbs of Bananas" for a funny but tragic tale.
Thanks for the recommendation!
1:00 yes!! What do you do at a yellow light?? Slow down. What do you do at a yellow light..? Slow down..😂😂😅😅😂 one of the funniest bits in TV history IMO. 😊
I had a feelling you might like this one. 🙂 Thank-you for playing it. For a moment, i was a teenager again.
Incredible song! Looking forward to more. Thanks for watching!
How amazing is this song? So very glad you got to react to this. Very much a part of my youth. Good job.!
Excellent song! Thanks for watching.
Harry had some very special ways of turning a phrase that will stay with you. One of my favorites is from Harry’s song A Better Place To Be with “She left a six word letter saying ‘it’s time that I moved on.’” One of my favorite Harry songs is There Only Was One Choice. The verse there that gets me is “I have this problem with my aging I no longer can ignore, a tame and toothless tabby can’t produce a lion’s roar.”
In Sequel he has the line for a smile. "And I watched the corners start to bend"
Yay! This made my day. Thanks for reacting to Harry and the epic Taxi.
Magnificent song! Thanks for watching.
To me this is not the sound of a clock but the sound of the rain falling, slowing down as the storm passes. Life has many storms but eventually the sun comes out. We aren’t meant to remain with everyone in our life only a select few, this is just a part of the journey..
Thank you for sharing that. That is beautiful ❤️
My late brother used to change lyrics to songs to make me laugh. Here's one: "We learned about love in a VW Bug, the lesson hadn't gone too far..."
😄😄😄
His feelings of indignation when she gave him the twenty was all that was left of his pride. The image of him stuffing the bill in his shirt is perfect because he had sold out his dream and had no self-respect.
Harry Chapin was a great storyteller. My generation was so lucky to have both him and Gordon Lightfoot. A lot of Harry's work is lesser known (except by fans) because most of his songs were too long for radio play.
That was great! Now you need to do the followup song on what happens next between Harry and Sue, simply called "Harry Chapin - Sequel."
Thanks for the recommendation!
This was a great time for singer-songwriters. Check out Jim Croce (Operator), Dan Fogleberg, Gordon Lightfoot, Cat Stevens.
"Sequel" will offer surprises. Love both songs.
Thanks for the recommendation!
It was a sad smile just the same.
I always thought of the harmonics as sounding like rain on the windshield, as in it was raining hard in Frisco.
That could definitely be it. Makes sense!
His only hit from early seventies in the Netherlands I can recall is W.O.L.D. Thanks to TH-cam reactors like you I got acquainted past years with more of his repertoire, like this song and Cat's in the Cradle.
Must check that one out at some point. Incredible artist. Thanks for watching.
W.O.L.D is a good one.
Brilliant.
Thank you for that insightful reaction. I've always related to this song as my first job at 18 yrs old was as a taxi driver. I took fares to the BART station and another various local businesses. I would smoke between fares and one of my regulars tipped me a joint! I ended up meeting his wife and listening to them jam with their jazz band. 1978!
Incredible song! Thanks for sharing that story. That is amazing!
A Better Place To Be and Mr. Tanner are great recommendations.
Glad young people appreciate these great artists!!🎉❤🎉
One of my all time favorite songwriters, his story songs always sounded so natural, never awkwardly reaching for a rhyme. I think you would enjoy his whole catalog. Some suggestions of slightly deeper cuts, Dreams Go By, Any Old Kind of Day, Mail Order Annie, and Corey's Coming are among my favorites. The Mayor of Candor Lied also tells an interesting story.
Just discovered you this evening, have watched 2 reactions, Unchained Melody and this Harry Chapin, 2 beautiful songs. Just wanted to say I really enjoyed your reactions, you really listen to the song lyrics and discuss their meanings with an understanding of what the singer was trying to get across. Thank you, I subscribed and will continue to listen.
Hey! Thanks so much for being here and subscribing! This song is truly incredible!
My favorite Harry Chapin song - by far. That muted string sound is mimicking the turn signal on an old Checker Cab.
Another great song from Harry. Great reaction
Love this song! Thanks for watching.
Check out Dan Fogelberg. Jim Croce.
I reacted to a few Jim Croce songs. Dan Fogelberg's music is on my to do list.
"Sniper" very, very powerful. And based on a true story.
Thanks for the recommendation!
@@SaeedReacts. there is some real lyrical word wizardry in Sniper. Simple sentences that paint such a vivid picture in your mind.
This one ties your heart in knots, and "Cat's in the Cradle" rips it apart. The man had an incredible talent to put feelings into stories into songs.
This song is a staple of mine to listen to , every New Years Eve. This and Auld Ang Zyne from Dan Folgerburg.
Incredible song and Auld Ang Zyne is also on my to do list.
Dan Fogelberg’s Leader of the Band is another one that tugs at the heartstrings.
Poet of a lyricist. Great reaction!
Thanks for watching!
Taxi is a bit like Jackson Browne’s The Pretender. I had not made the connection before despite knowing these songs very well for decades.
The voice in the middle is Big John Wallace. He has an extraordinary range.
20 dollars was a lot of money back in 1972. Think of her giving him 100 now.
Thanks for the recommendation!
Loved hearing this again. Im 65. Chaoin was one of my favorites in the 70's.🎉
It's the line "I've been letting my outside tide me over, till my time runs out." Gets me ever time.(And I wrote this before you got to that line!) "Wild man wizard inside me". Who writes like that anymore?
I was lucky to see Harry in concert 4 times and his concerts were such fun. Lighthearted, then serious, then we were all singing along! He was a master troubadour, taken too soon. His band always included a cello and you can hear it clearly here; added so much drama!
Listen to "A better place to be" and he can tear you apart again with just a line or well turned phrase. Thanks for the memories!
Incredible line!
Awesome you saw him a few times. Thanks so much for watching.
The combination of the intricate and varied musical background with the plain-spoken narrative creates a gorgeous contrast. Harry Chapin's voice has a rough texture that also adds another layer of complexity to this masterpiece of storytelling. I liked your observation that the lyrics could have been the opening prose for a chapter of a novel. Some of these story songs leave one with same feeling as a good book. Gail L.
Incredible storytelling. So many great elements in this song. It really is a masterpiece.
Thanks so much for watching.
Sometimes you get what you ask for but not in the way you expect. I guess that's where the saying, "Be careful what you ask for" comes from. His songs are interesting and thought provoking. I wonder sometimes if he may have had a little depression. I've mentioned his song Flowers are Red before and it's also interesting in that way.
Amazing song and so well written. Thanks for watching and the recommendation!
There are recommendations already for Mr. Tanner. And I love that. Such a moving story. I also love the story of the Mayor of Candor and Corey's Coming.
Thanks for the recommendation!
That’s a man singing the high part in the middle of the song.
@@NancyMoran-r3b Sung by “Big” John Wallace. I think he was also the bass player.
Yes there is a sequel to the song check it out put.
Will check it out!
So there is more to the story. A song called sequel, 😊 part 2 to Taxi. I was released (im guessing a bit here), maybe 7-8 years after Taxi. If you want to find out how the story ends, give a listen.
Definitely want to check that one out.
I am so glad you reacted to this! I knew you would like it.. such a deep song..
Magnificent song! Thanks for watching.
People came up with so many interpretations of this song Harry finally wrote a reprise you need to react to
Interesting! Will check it out!
Harry C is one of the best ever story tellers. Sequel is a great song, A Better Place To Be is an amazing story song.
The Live version is amazing.
Yes! That haunting falsetto singer is surprising.
Thought you would like this one, Saeed!
Incredible song!
PART 2 !!
🌸 this is a haunting but beautiful tune.
yes!
Loved the sitcom TAXI ! Hilarious show. All the characters were amazingly talented. My favorite was the guy who was always spaced out. Forgot his name. ( Christopher Lloyd)I believe was his real name) wish tv was still
Like that. Sitcoms and humor and clean at that like the Carol Burnett Show. Omg!! Doubled over in laughter. These storyteller writer/ singers of my youth were brilliant.
Jim!
Awesome show!
You can pick any of the songs of Harry's album Verities and Balderdash and hear wonderful, wonderful stories. Take your pick. "I Wanna Learn a Love Song" "What Made America Famous", "30,000 Pounds of Bananas" all amazing.
Looking forward to more of his music!
Please listen to "A Better Place To Be". Make sure it's from the Greatest Stories Live" album.
Another great one from that album is "Mr. Tanner".
Thanks for the recommendations
Great reaction! Great song, glad you liked it
Excellent song! Thanks for watching.
Those cellos are beautiful.
There are a couple great live versions of this on TH-cam.
My favorite song from Harry is little known or ever reacted to "Mercenaries". What it is like for our men in the trenches, in story form.
Thanks for the recommendation. Definitely want to explore more of his music.
If you enjoyed this song, storytelling and theme. After you listen the sequel. You need to treat yourself and listen to Dan Fogelberg. Same Old Lang Syne.
Will do!
Now you have to listen to Sequel.
Thanks for the recommendation!
Pinnacle song love it love you
He really was one of the greatest storytellers, along with Gordon Lightfoot. Both Canadians, both incredible storytellers. My late brother saw Harry's last concert before he was killed in a bus crash on his way to the next venue. RIP Harry. If you want another great story, react to The Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot . It's a true story and very sad. Gordon made a masterpiece that was so real it put you on that ship. Please react to that one.
I reacted to that song and a few others by Gordon LIghtfoot, but they are not all uploaded yet.
@@Madeincanada62 I love Harry and Gordon, but I'm pretty sure Harry was born in New York. His brother Tom is a folk singer who I've been watching live since I was a baby.
Oh please next do Mr Tanner and/or twenty thousand pounds of Bananas
Definitely "Mr. Tanner" next, but then I would recommend "A Better Place To Be" from a writer's perspective
@@eolair Mr Tanner is right after Taxi at the top. Another great is A Better Place to Be. My daughter’s favorite is Dance Band On the Titanic.
Thanks for the recommendation!
Try "Sniper" by Harry.
Based on a true story. It's chilling and incredibly written
That one is on my to do list.
Just now caught your reaction to Taxi; as always, well done my friend.
Thanks so much!
Sequel is a continuation of this story.
Great reaction to an icon, Saeed. Thank you for sharing with us ❤😊
Incredible song! Thanks so much for watching!
Chapin’s song, Sniper, will shock you. Mr. Tanner will stun you. The Rock is a cool story, as is Corey’s Coming.
Definitely want to listen to all of those! Thanks for sharing.
❤
❤️
Beautiful reaction. ✌🏽
Thank you!
HEYYYYYY!!! 👍THERE YA GO SAEED! 😊
It's sad we lost him
I expect you'll get lots of recommendations for some of his better-known non-hit songs like Mr. Tanner, W.O.L.D., 30,000 Pounds of Bananas, and Better Place to Be (the best of these, IMO). I'm going to suggest a few that are even deeper cuts: Sniper - a difficult listen, but an absolute masterpiece, both lyrically and sonically ; Dance Band on the Titanic - a rare uptempo piece that's a ton of fun despite its topic; Bummer - a deeply emotional gut-punch with a message.
That one is definitely on my list along with the others. Want to check them all out 😃
It's a shame this song doesn't get the love it deserves.
GOD took way too early.😇
There's a live version that shows the cat singing falsetto.
You can tell this was from a long time ago. Today you can't even get into the cab for $2.50. Especially in SF.
Happy belated 4/20
Incredible song!
This is almost fifty years ago.
Sequel is not just a continuation, but a parallel telling as well. If it's some time after you do this before you do Sequel, please listen to this again right before you react to Sequel so you can catch all the parallels.
Thanks for the recommendation and advice. Will keep that in mind.
I am glad you are finding Harry's lyrics as brilliant as I have for years. The main reason for his lesser-known songs is not quality its they run too long for radio and never got the airtime. Actually, his longer running songs, I believe are his best stories.
Definitely want to check out some of the deep cuts too. Thanks for watching.
There is a follow up song to this one titled "Sequel", check it out !!!!!!
Thanks for the recommendation!
There’s a Taxi II
that’s also a good story.
Will check it out
Listen to the sequel (name of song by Harry) the female voice was done by a male
Thanks for the recommendation!
Another great one Saeed!
Thanks for watching.
I'd definitely love for you to try Sniper. Most recommentlders shy away probably because of the subject matter. Definitely do a live version.
Thanks for the recommendation! Definitely want to check it out.

❤❤❤
Mr Tanner, A Better Place To Be, Sniper and Mail Order Annie just to name a few suggestions for Harry songs.
Thanks for the recommendation!
I think I recommended Mary Chapin Carpenter to you. She's actually a distant cousin of Harry's.
Thanks for the recommendation!
@@SaeedReacts. I Am A Town would be a good start. Like Taxi, it's very cinematic.
For a great, tragic story with a twist, listen to The Mayor of Candor Lied.
Thanks for the recommendation!
SO THAT REALLLLL HIGH VOICE IS A GUY SAEED, NOT A GIRL! LOLOL 😊YOU NEED TO DO THE CONCERT VIDEO CLIP SOMETIME! 💯
Thabks for letting me know.
JOHN PRINE should be on your list! And soon! I'm enjoying your reactions.
He is on my list! Hope to get to his music soon. Thanks so much for watching!
Heard you say Danny and Rhea are still together. Sorry to say they separated in 2017. Think he was a bit of a player!
Oh, did not know that
Their dreams came true but in the way of a monkey's paw, a distortion.
