👍😎 model car build. I loved the various smokey movies. My uncle had a gold 79 ta.... Till several yrs later his gf totaled it. Was a very very sad day for the whole family. Surprisingly my uncle kept the gf for a bit till he found a replacement. He also kept on looking for a suitable ta replacement. Which almost lead him to buy a smokey ta.
Black is a tough color to work with. Get some fine grit sanding blocks. It will smooth out the paint. 3200,3800,4000,6000,8000 and 12,000. I do a light coat. Let it dry. Light sanding and repeat. Usually 3-4 coats and it’s shiny. Nice work! I think it came out fine.
I actually got this kit earlier this year, and I must say, I'm NOT looking forward to those decals even though they'll really make it stand out. I'm thinking of cutting some of them before applying them, something I thought about when building aircraft and truck models that come with decals of that nature that can be a real pain at times. And yes; I think Revell has the trans Am logos on the new 1:8 scale 1979/80 Firebird they just brought out; why not on this one? Maybe you can get them aftermarket or from an older kit.
Yes David the decals are very challenging, if you can cut them and rejoin seamlessly than go for it. The major ones are the 3 screaming chickens but the rest of the pinstripe does make the car pop. Reminds me of the Tom Daniel Paddy Wagon.🙂
@@tyleringle268 just as a heads up, black paint is like a mirror and shows all imperfections. Another color might be a better choice if your just starting out.
@@tyleringle268 the "Intimidator". Be sure the first black paint coat is light over the primer. Second coat can be a little thicker. Those NASCAR's have so many corporate sponsored decals that they cover half the car anyway. Have fun!
Thanks for watching. I spray paint the car body, hood and large surface areas while hand painting smaller pieces. If you hand paint the model you might get brush marks and it won't be as smooth as spraying. But people do hand paint with brushes as long as you are happy with the results, that's all that matters.
The SCCA owns “Trans Am”, so any licensing would have to go through them. Maybe they wanted too much money, maybe they wouldn’t allow it at all, or maybe Revell didn’t ask.
Great job -- the decals are really tricky on Firebirds/ TAs and yours look really good.
Thanks Dillan, check out my video of this same build but as a Smokey. The numerous decals took me a day to apply.
Nice.👍 The cowboy hat that came with kit is a nice touch.
The hat is a nice touch, thanks. I've since built a Smokey version of this kit as well.
You did a great job on that car. I have the same kit, but haven't started it yet. I really like your work.
Thanks Randall, the decals alone will take about a day since you need to be patient with those long thin gold pinstripes.

Thanks for watching and commenting, I find black to be like a mirror so tough to hide any faults.
@@davidchin350 that it is. Nice work! I’m still working to get it right too. Lol!
always loved trans am,beautiful car💪💪👌👍
Thanks, love the screaming chicken on the hood.
very nice job. just bought this kit and i am anxious to start it.
Have fun. Be patient applying the gold trim decals.

Nice car I have the same thing how many coats of gloss black paint did you use I am a beginner in modeling this is why I was asking.
Thanks Tyler, 2 to 3 coats of Rustoleum 2x gloss black. I don't have an airbrush, still using rattlecans. Let me know if you have any questions.
@@davidchin350 ok thanks! I have 3 model cars I plan on painting gloss black I just whant them to look good and shine the first time I paint them!.

Does it need glue or paint
It definitely needs glue. Plastic is molded in white so you will need to paint if you want to build as Smokey and the Bandit.
Is spray paint required? I am likely going to hand paint it but idk how that’ll look

You're probably right David! Thanks for commenting.
