I wish that I had been this confident and able to dress in all black with wild hair and makeup and not care what people think at a younger age, but I am happy that I am doing it now. I LOVE makeup and wear dark eyeshadow and winged eyeliner all the time, and I find the process of putting on makeup so meditative and soothing. Just found your channel last night and love it!

It's punk rock to be empathetic and vulnerable about something you love, Courtney. Keep being passionate about makeup and whatever brings you joy in life ❤ I'm neurodivergent and was recently diagnosed as an adult, so I'm going through a lot of self-discovery and trying to start unmasking more. Part of that is starting to dress and wear my makeup in a way that I like instead of what I feel is "acceptable". It's a little nerve-wracking, but I'm so much happier when I do. I never got to get into alternative culture growing up even though I wanted to (conservative upbringing and all), but even then I knew that alt people were the coolest, most authentic people ever. I think we all must be feeling some type of way recently with social media, trends, and all that. I recently listened to one of my true crime podcasts talk about the life and story of Mia Zapata and how the whole punk/grunge community rallied around each other for support. I want to believe that we can still be like that today. :) Long comment but I just feel like you really connected on something with me and wanted to say that you matter and bad days don't last forever.

Self expression is important and the alternative space (especially online lately) has definitely felt like a very clique-y space full of trends, popularity contests, and shaming. I love it when people embrace the styles they like, even if it's dated, extreme, basic, or "cringe". It's just pigments, babes!

Thank you for saying about how important make up can be! I like wearing more grungy makeup and dark lipstick. And it is healing for me bc when I was in middle school, grunge was huge and I loved it but was just starting in make up and had other things to worry about- middle school was the worst time of my life, I have CPTSD from it (a lot of bullies, etc. Turns out I’m autistic… I may not have been diagnosed until my late 30’s, but those bullies sure knew something was different about me). So now I wear more grunge makeup bc I feel like I’m honoring younger me, and it is healing. Give me a flannel shirt and a pair of Doc Martens, and a Green Day playlist and I feel like myself, like who I have always been. I have found solace in punk rock music, and now make up, and I’m so happy that you will probably understand what I’m trying to say. I had a friend who would get mad at me for taking inspiration from her. I thought we were on the same page until I wore a shirt that we both got from Target and she told me she never wanted to wear it again because I also had it. We became close and then distant due to life and then close again only to find out all that catty frenemies vibe came back with a vengeance and we no longer speak. That's a friendship that broke my soul, truly. I still love and care for her but I can't deal with that anymore. And now I found a catty situation at work again and it never freaking ends. i always watch your videos when i’m sitting down and doing my own makeup and your videos make me feel so inspired!! i feel the same way about makeup and it’s so frustrating to see ppl saying that doing makeup is for other people (& the male gaze) bc it genuinely gives me so much dopamine (as an adhd girlie) and inspires me to be creative literally all day. makeup makes me so happy and it’s the highlight of my day, especially knowing that i have cool eyeliner or eyeshadow or blush on. it’s so meditative as another commenter said and i would not be the same without this outlet for self expression🥰🥰
I just adore you and the space you've created here. My teenage goth self feels so seen in this 40 yr old "normie" body! You are probably too young to remember when Hot Topic was all dark goth metal heads, everything was either black, blood red, or metal. If you found color in that store, it's because it was on a band tee. And we used to just hang and listen to Cradle of Filth on repeat. If anyone walked in that was even a slightly different version of us, they would be stared at, laughed at, and sometimes even hissed at, lol. Now I'm the old mom that goes in to feel a little nostalgia, and I see all the pastels, the anime, and friendly faces, and think to myself "when did this turn into an alternative version of Old Navy" lol

Since the age I could start putting on makeup, I have been using it as a tool for self-expression. As an autistic person who often finds it hard to verbalize my internal world, makeup is a medium that I use to reflect how I’m feeling. Every look is like an entry in a diary, and it is a way of bringing people in community with me together. If you get it, you get it, and if you don’t, you don’t. 🖤
Not only do I like the energy in your videos and your makeup style (I will definitely follow some of your tips, and really want to try Mob because of you haha) but you also seem like a sweet person, Courtney. It got me a bit teary-eyed myself as I'm going through a bit of a rough spot. Makeup is one of the things that bring me joy, among other forms of artistic expression. It took my till my 30s to be comfortable in my own skin & to want to stand out. I’ve got 5 feet of hair - past my knees - and I love standing out. Plus when I do my makeup - it’s loud and shifty and sparkly. LOVE THIS. It isn’t JUST makeup to me. It’s 2 hours I get to myself - when I do it - focusing on ME. Making myself feel PRETTY. I never wear dark color makeup because I think it makes me look old and haggard, but I got the Blend Bunny Machina and Forget me Not palettes, and did a very dark grungey burgundy and pink look. I even used the black shade! Lol 😄 And I absolutely loved it. I know it's in part from watching you, and I can't thank you enough. I’m hype about finally mastering the smudged liner with pencil. Tried the basic base makeup I always do, some NYX thick it stick it in my brows, UD perversion on my upper waterline/under lash line& a black lip& BEEESSTTIIIIEEEE!!! Been living my best life. I’m always about a mascara or doing some shadows but minimum mascara. I feel like that ITGIRL! Today I tried the NYX xxl lingerie….idk the name of it but it’s a black liquid lipstick in a black and pink tube& bestiiieeeessss!!!! I’m obsessed put it on at 8:56am and it’s 6:46pm and it is going STRONG! & I’m mid up and down my attic stairs after a full day of work doing seasonal wardrobe swap over.

I’m definitely into deep, rich, grungy shades with interesting or unexpected undertones. Also unique shapes of eyeshadow on the eye. So over the typical transition shade in the crease, darker outer v, shimmer on the lid. Is it beautiful? Yes, can be but what happened to halo eyes, reverse Smokey eyes, graphic shapes, etc.? That’s what I appreciate most about your looks: unique shapes and placement that are the opposite of cookie cutter! 🩶🤍🖤🤎

Self expression is important and the alternative space (especially online lately) has definitely felt like a very clique-y space full of trends, popularity contests, and shaming. I love it when people embrace the styles they like, even if it's dated, extreme, basic, or "cringe". It's just pigments, babes!

Thank you for saying about how important make up can be! I like wearing more grungy makeup and dark lipstick. And it is healing for me bc when I was in middle school, grunge was huge and I loved it but was just starting in make up and had other things to worry about- middle school was the worst time of my life, I have CPTSD from it (a lot of bullies, etc. Turns out I’m autistic… I may not have been diagnosed until my late 30’s, but those bullies sure knew something was different about me). So now I wear more grunge makeup bc I feel like I’m honoring younger me, and it is healing. Give me a flannel shirt and a pair of Doc Martens, and a Green Day playlist and I feel like myself, like who I have always been. I have found solace in punk rock music, and now make up, and I’m so happy that you will probably understand what I’m trying to say. I’m so glad I found your channel, not only for the makeup content, but bc of you! Thank you so much!

I am a mixed media and digital artist and haven’t really been working much due to health, but I honestly can’t go without playing with makeup. And yes, I Love color! Love your channel and energy! I had a friend who would get mad at me for taking inspiration from her. I thought we were on the same page until I wore a shirt that we both got from Target and she told me she never wanted to wear it again because I also had it. We became close and then distant due to life and then close again only to find out all that catty frenemies vibe came back with a vengeance and we no longer speak. That's a friendship that broke my soul, truly. I still love and care for her but I can't deal with that anymore. And now I found a catty situation at work again and it never freaking ends. Anyway, I genuinely love videos like this because I get to see a real human open up and not a fake persona. Thank you for opening up and sharing your experiences and your passion for makeup! You've made me want to dive back into my stash and see what I can come up with. i always watch your videos when i’m sitting down and doing my own makeup and your videos make me feel so inspired!! i feel the same way about makeup and it’s so frustrating to see ppl saying that doing makeup is for other people (& the male gaze) bc it genuinely gives me so much dopamine (as an adhd girlie) and inspires me to be creative literally all day. makeup makes me so happy and it’s the highlight of my day, especially knowing that i have cool eyeliner or eyeshadow or blush on. it’s so meditative as another commenter said and i would not be the same without this outlet for self expression🥰🥰
I just adore you and the space you've created here. My teenage goth self feels so seen in this 40 yr old "normie" body! You are probably too young to remember when Hot Topic was all dark goth metal heads, everything was either black, blood red, or metal. If you found color in that store, it's because it was on a band tee. And we used to just hang and listen to Cradle of Filth on repeat. If anyone walked in that was even a slightly different version of us, they would be stared at, laughed at, and sometimes even hissed at, lol. Now I'm the old mom that goes in to feel a little nostalgia, and I see all the pastels, the anime, and friendly faces, and think to myself "when did this turn into an alternative version of Old Navy" lol

Since the age I could start putting on makeup, I have been using it as a tool for self-expression. As an autistic person who often finds it hard to verbalize my internal world, makeup is a medium that I use to reflect how I’m feeling. Every look is like an entry in a diary, and it is a way of bringing people in community with me together. If you get it, you get it, and if you don’t, you don’t. 🖤
Not only do I like the energy in your videos and your makeup style (I will definitely follow some of your tips, and really want to try Mob because of you haha) but you also seem like a sweet person, Courtney. It got me a bit teary-eyed myself as I'm going through a bit of a rough spot. Makeup is one of the things that bring me joy, among other forms of artistic expression. I’ve been in a total mental health rut for years and I’ve totally stopped wearing makeup due to self esteem issues but you’re the first person who’s actually made me feel excited about the prospect of picking up my makeup brushes and start experimenting with makeup again without caring what anyone else will think of me or even what I myself will think of me. It took my till my 30s to be comfortable in my own skin & to want to stand out. I’ve got 5 feet of hair - past my knees - and I love standing out. Plus when I do my makeup - it’s loud and shifty and sparkly. LOVE THIS. It isn’t JUST makeup to me. It’s 2 hours I get to myself - when I do it - focusing on ME. Making myself feel PRETTY. It’s always a good thing ❤

I'm a fairly new sub, and am so glad I found your channel. I'm 41 and have loved makeup and dyeing my hair since I was 12. I am a spooky gal, but also love color. I never wear dark color makeup because I think it makes me look old and haggard, but I got the Blend Bunny Machina and Forget me Not palettes, and did a very dark grungey burgundy and pink look. I even used the black shade! Lol 😄 And I absolutely loved it. I know it's in part from watching you, and I can't thank you enough. I’m hype about finally mastering the smudged liner with pencil. Tried the basic base makeup I always do, some NYX thick it stick it in my brows, UD perversion on my upper waterline/under lash line& a black lip& BEEESSTTIIIIEEEE!!! Been living my best life. I’m always about a mascara or doing some shadows but minimum mascara. I feel like that ITGIRL! Today I tried the NYX xxl lingerie….idk the name of it but it’s a black liquid lipstick in a black and pink tube& bestiiieeeessss!!!! I’m obsessed put it on at 8:56am and it’s 6:46pm and it is going STRONG! & I’m mid up and down my attic stairs after a full day of work doing seasonal wardrobe swap over.

I’m in my 40’s and was raised in a VERY conservative community and I didn’t get to wear the makeup I wished. And I’m a proMUA!!! Try to unwind that one! Haha😂 I regret not wearing what I wanted. I’m definitely into deep, rich, grungy shades with interesting or unexpected undertones. Also unique shapes of eyeshadow on the eye. So over the typical transition shade in the crease, darker outer v, shimmer on the lid. Is it beautiful? Yes, can be but what happened to halo eyes, reverse Smokey eyes, graphic shapes, etc.? That’s what I appreciate most about your looks: unique shapes and placement that are the opposite of cookie cutter! 🩶🤍🖤🤎
