They threw out drug cartels and big government, which forced them into desperate poverty. The women who led the resistance in 2011 relate their story.
Now the quiet and gentle community is run collectively, with volunteer paramilitary patrols to protect their land and forests.
In this film, we look at how the Cheran community gave power to the people, finding its own democratic solutions to the problems that threatened their very lives.
The people of Cheran move my heart and soul. What an inspiration in a troubled world. May this be the seed of a beautiful tree.

The message of this documentary really resonates with me. Does democracy really exist? Politicians and people in power are hand in hand with the corrupt, they only want votes to be in power, don't really care about the people. That is something I see in my country too.
