We met Captain Oprey on our first Christmas and New Years voyage to the Caribbean on QM2 in December 2016, nice guy. He retired later in 2017 so I hope he’s enjoying his life where ever he is now.
As I have been on this ship, I can say that this is ship is amazing, friendly staff, great facilities, amazing food. Impossible to get bored on there. So many things to do. Would love to go back on it
I am from merchant navy, and people who are saying that he shouldn't had wore the life jacket, sorry guys... But for your kind information, if you are entering in this line, the first thing is your safety. That's what he is doing. You can't just rely on others.
Beautiful ship, but still a messed up system. Because there are so many passengers on a ship like this, they go for a cheaper layout on the plumbing system, this is actually pretty common to do on a lot of ships. Go on disney if you dont want to, their toilets suction is extreme, it literally sounds like a toilet demon when it flushes thats how powerful it is. If you think im talking about the commercial toilets in the stores, im talking way more powerful.. only in the cabins for some reason though, but if you want to do it in the public bathrooms thats fine, they have stalls that go all the way done so theres no perverts trying to watch through the holes and be like ‘hi’
So lucky to get chance and have a free tour inside Queen mary 2 the last time they docked here in Iceland july 19, 2019 😍😍😍 such an amazing experience !
@水生葉 It would work fine, hence why the draft line is above the bulb. As long as it is apposing the frequency of the breakwaves then it will do it's job.
Personally I hope Queen Mary 2 is preserved because it technically is the last ocean liner and I hope the Cunard line recognizes that and has the ship made into either Hotel or Museum and in terms of its location I think London or wherever the company's headquarters are would be perfect because I would love to see the ship and tour it
Carnival owns Cunard and it’s ultimately up to them what becomes if it. In the end you can’t preserve every ship. Carnival is so huge it’s just another asset to them.
We did the England to New York crossing on QM2 in spring of 2015. It was a marvelous experience. And that was before the refit done I think the next year. We hope to another crossing, both ways, in next year or two. I guarantee it is an experience work doing. A truly marvelous ship.
This photograph deserves an award! Why has this never been done before now! Captain Oprey will be immortalised with this picture. What a great captain he is indeed. He gave all the praise to his ship. He even mentioned being very proud of the picture because of his ship. Captain Oprey needs to visit former Captain Schettino and pound the crap out of the, Chicken Of The Sea, loser.

I found the photographer's work and the Captain's posture fantastic. Congratulations on the video, iconic Ricardo BECCARI "Becca"
There's something very scary for some reason for me being at water level next to huge objects. Not that I have any personal experience but even imagining it make me cold sweating. It's probably the fact that the huge object could kill you countless different ways.
el genio comentó I don't think so I genuinely have a hard time looking at it on a screen let alone to be there .....i think it's submechanophobia or something :(
Am I the only one who doesn't think this is scary? It's awesome that the captain stood there for a photo shoot, but even if he slips, he just fall into water. He's a captain, he can swim.
It is used to break the waves. Older ships were less efficient because they didn't have it. It decreases the water resistance, meaning that the ship has to use less power to push through the water. This brings down the amount of fuel used and the fuel costs obviously
Not quite correct. It's used to modify how the waves move around the ship. It creates a wave that is 180 degrees out of phase with the waves formed by the bow of the ship which is some 10-15 metres behind the bulbous bow. As they're 180 degrees out of phase, they essentially cancel each other out, creating a smooth flow around the remainder of the ship. It's a principle called destructive wave interference. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bulbous_bow
If I was the captain of the Queen Mary 2 and she has an accident and she is going to sunk...I would be the last one to leave the ship. I wouldn't mind to die and go down with the ship.
They are not allowed to leave the ship until they can clarify that there's nobody left in the sinking ship. That's a protocol of every passenger ships.
To be the captain of this ship...I couldn't even imagine the sense of pride. I feel like it's a job any captain in the world would want.
Yea its the only ocean liner left

The respect he has for his ship is quite humbling.
Well, i mean.. the Queen Mary 2 is the only Ocean liner still in service and was the biggest ship afloat when she was launched in 2003

Yes lol

Great photo and video. The captain is very humble and obviously enjoys his job. Nice work.
He cuts a fine jib. And he steered the boat to the bow! Definitely on my bucket list of cruises.

Robert Jeffries lol doing that in school right now. Basically gets rid of the waves
Wow what a very cool shot.
why is the ship not anchored on both sides??
+Akiyl Simon because they don't care if the ship changes its direction.
The weather was so nice that a second anchor was not necessary.
The 2°nd anchor is only used in ports or when there is the risk of it changing direction
Because it is dangerous as one wants "swing"...
Region A country = starboard side anchor
Region B country = portside anchor
