Cheung Tin Chi during the majority of the movie did not use Wing Chun, due to his trauma from his fight with Ip Man from Ip Man 3. It was when during this fight, where he was intially overwhelmed by Dave that he regains confidence in his Wing Chun and applies his real techniques. This is why you can notice the shift in his stances and how he applies his blows towards the end of the fight.
what was he using before?
I don't think he regained his confidence, he just knew that it was his only chance because he was fighting force vs force whereas Wing Chun does not and it also teaches striking vital areas and pressure points as a part of the system. He defeated Bautista with the same move Ip Man beat him with. Also major props to the credits scene where Fung uses Wing Chun to beat his bully.

I love how Chung changes his strategy mid fight. In the beginning he was aiming for Batista's chest which considering the weight difference wasn't doing anything. Mid fight when he gets back up he decides to go for weak spots like the throat and liver because it's the only way he can do any damage

And to a certain extent, was fighting 'dirty'. Which is what you need to do when outmuscled like that. Any hard attack against the front of the throat is absolutely a statement that you are willing to kill that person, because with the amount of pressure it takes to collapse the trachea is not all that great. Ignoring the wire-fu parts of the fight, in the real world if Batista had simply happened to be starting to step or lean forward for an attack at the moment that throat strike landed, it wouldn't have been a few seconds of trying to recover, it would have been him slowly collpasing to the ground, unable to breathe. Note: Thanks to filmography, I am willing to bet that the 'throat strike' wasn't actually all that close to hitting, it's way to dangerous.
Eyes, throat, groin. If you are out muscled, those are the best weak points. Knees are second best, then other joints as available and based on your skill (If I got lucky, I might be able to disjoint an elbow of someone stronger but not particularly skilled. That move he used on the thumb? Way too precise and fast for anyone not trained). Mind, I'm not remotely a skilled fighter, and lost most of my childhood fights. Anyone of reasonable health and awareness of weak points has a chance to pull off some basic joint damage if they are lucky and the opponent is not very skilled.
@@vapeurdepisse Nah, that throat job was series damage. And the only reason they aren't both lacerated to hell is stunt fights use sugar glass. Looking at just that last kick launching him out the door I would expect shards of glass and lots of cuts on Batista's face. And possibly a few long shallow cuts on Chung, though going through feet first reduces that risk (When I was a kid, I was doing stupid kid stunts and managed to jump kick my way through a glass window. Was barely scratched thankfully, but that was luck, not skill)
No you missed the whole point. Since he lost to Ip Man, Tin-Chi quit Wing Chun but in reality Wing Chun was the only chance he had to defeat Bats' massive size, strength and power advantages because it teaches lethal strikes and constant pressure while deflecting, not using force vs force, which is what he was trying. And if you notice, he actually used the same move that Ip Man did against him, a short hard shot between the ribs to a pressure point under his armpit. So technically it was a body shot that made him realize he was done for. That was the whole point, he was getting tossed around while trying fancy fu before "Wing Chun, Chung Tin-Chi" in the bong sao/woo sao pose.

Dave Batista’s movement is a lot more fluid and beautiful to watch than Mike Tyson’s in his Ip man role. I think wrestlers have a lot of practice with fake punches and therefore are easily adaptable to cinematic fighting than hardcore fighters.

Whereas if you see the fight sequences of Dwayne Johnson, Dave Batista and John Cena, they are way more confident and fluid in fight sequences because they are so used to landing fake punches in the pro wrestling. Combined with their amazing flexibility, the action looks awesome on screen. Pro wrestlers are also very quickly adapting to acting than professional fighters.
I wonder if Conor mcgregor can ever rein himself down and act in a movie because it’d be awesome for such a man to act as a villain in peaky blinders or similar shows.

Good fantasy fight, but in reality, after he got thrown against the bar, his spine would have taken damage, then more when he was thrown into the bottles.
Lastly, his strength and body would NOT hold up against the sheer strength of Bautista's blows
Exactly. The #1 rule to remember in fighting is, always guard your neck and spine. Z wouldn't have had the strength to get back up properly from the table section after he has suffered 2 back damage.
Never fight above your weight class. Unless you intend to kill the guy swiftly using pressure points/ranged weapons.

this is why I prefer the older Jackie chan movies like meals on wheels. Jackie Chan always improvises and even when he ups his game he still gets hit and injured and has to dig deep and sometimes he is shown to get lucky with some of his hits. For me the best depiction of a good fight scene is in "the Raid" When that guy takes on two guys and all of them end up bloody and injured

Modern Chinese Kung Fu films have lead characters that literally activate God mode and never get hit or injured and take on opponents that would easily beat them in a real fight. I know it's acting but it's been done better in older films. Films like the raid, warrior king and chocolate are more recent films that have depicted fight scenes far better and none of those films are Chinese

I'd love to see Batista in more fight scenes like this. He did really well (if that wasn't a stunt double). I rarely see big burly guys move gracefully in action movies, they're always stiff and all they do is body slam people and it's quite boring.
You see it again for a quick minute in a Zach Snyder movie of all places. Army of the Dead, when his gf gets killed he hulks out for a second. All his moves in that short scene were very fluid, more than you ever see through his stint in Marvel films.

A movie to show how awesome both actors fight each other. A movie to entertain the audience. I like both actors, and to me, they did their job very well in this movie.

He's not that buff, he's somewhat skinny, to really visualise his body just imagine him as rodtang a ufc fighter. If I hit him a 2 inch thick stick it'll surely break.
Anyway it's not all about being big, it's about refining your bones and muscles plus with stamina and great eye. Although i would agree that being bigger have a huge advantage of defense

Many years ago me and a buddy of mine that weighed over 300 pounds with me being like 150 at the time were just messing around and i was acting like i was gonna whoop his ass,well i got too close and he pulled me in with 1 hand and bear hugged me and then put me in a rear naked choke,yeah i was done. There wasn't a damn thing i could do with him being that big and he almost made me black out until i finally said,aight aight man I'm done. Lol. Now i could've beat him had we been in an actual fight with weapons or being really fast with some force to the nuts but if you get too close to someone that size when you're little then it's a wrap and you just stand no chance straight up 1 on 1 without any weapons for it's never gonna happen.

In this movie, Dave Batista attempted to run away which meant he ran away scared after the beating. It is John Cena that don't give up. Batista does give up once he takes so many beatings.

Це жесть і наглість в фільмі таке показувати сам батіста мав би серйозну травму якби йому його близнюк так кинув як цього , а за того чахлика то взагалі я мовчу травма могла бути фатальна . В реальності такого не буває два три взмаха і фінал а тут ... співвідношення якесь дивне як два термінатора а не слон і муха , або як слон і пес тупо візуальний обман .
Так на 36 секунде бой и заканчивается, а дальше этот Чунг отрубился, и все остальное ему приснилось)

You're funny 🤣. This is obviously a movie, but all those kicks and punches were aimed very precisely at pressure points, Batista also didn't go down immediately, the damage eventually accumulated. Also being thrown around like that is actually pretty normal, it all depends on how you land and whether or not certain objects hurt you during the fall. If not most of the time you can just get up, since it seems painful but actually doesn't hurt that much, especially when you're in the heat of the moment and the adrenaline pushes you forward. Again it's still a movie. But it is amazing to see exactly deadly martial art techniques can be.

@@muzzeina4987 No seriously. I wasn't trying, I've been in fights where I've been thrown around by a person twice my size, it's not a brag just experience. After the dust settled in a matter of speaking, I could barely remember the throws, because the adrenaline was keeping me going and I didn't land awkwardly (Hurts like hell afterwards though) Also those punches only seem light, because Batista's body is big and the muscles are tight. Take the solar plexus for example it's a basic weak point, training your abs might allow you to take one or two punches there, and keep going, however no matter how light, if enough connect you're going to go down. In boxing you also have those that have light punches, but are able to dodge or block and land more effective hits due to their speed, and eventually even knocking the opponent out.
@@SensitiveSavage it olso depends on the type of material the graund is made of if concrete you die but if is something like wood you can survive and keep getting up a couple of times
It was a lot more interesting when the big guy was winning.
PS - I love when they incorporate a wrestler's finishing move into a scene.

Точно также в сказках Илья Муромец греческой шапкой укладывал по взводу врагов одним ударом. Но в моем детстве не было полоумных, которые на этом основании требовали бы запретить русские сказки.

Нет кунг-фу очень хорошо помогает так от разных врагов, бандитов, но оно тоже разное, этот стиль винчун чисто показательный как спортивная гимнастика красивые движения и только, у брюса ли был другой стиль боевой и эффективный, просто нужно не забывать что кунг-фу не делает тебя суперменом да с ним ты выйдеш например в 70 процентах драк чем не изучая ни чего гдето в 40-50процентах победителем.

Будущи школьником, я обожал смотреть на подобные бои, где мелкий китаец побеждал какого-нибудь здорового мужика. Мне казалось это чем-то эпичным, крутым и реалистичным. Забавно. Сейчас, когда мне 33 года, я просто напросто испытываю испанский стыд и смех при виде очереднего такого боя китайца и мужика под 2 метра, где первый разваливает лица похлеще Бэтмена. В реальности от этого малыша из Китая с его вымышленным стилем и псевдо-кунг-фу, которое не помогает, ничего бы не осталось от встречи с Дэйвом. Что самое забавное, так это, что Дэйв Баттиста всё правильно сказал в этом фрагменте("Вы, китайцы, слишком высокого мнения о себе").
Такого уровня Вин - Чунь еще никто не достиг и не достигнет 🤭☝
Только в фильме можно победить такой техникой а так в реальном мире Батиста одним ударом убил бы этого клоуна

Винчунь предполагает бой с наибыстрейшим выводом из строя противника, то что в фильмах у них бои затянуты на 10 минут, это снято для красоты. Винчунь должен начинаться с ударов по болевым точкам, а не поглаживаниях руками, вроде паха, глаз, коленей, выворачивание суставов, всё зависит от того, что в данный момент будет эффективнее и всегда уворот от удара или блокирование идет с ударом в болевую точку в этот же момент. То есть винчун - это техника, которая людей инвалидами оставляет, при правильном применении. Конечно винчун проигрывает в ваших типа "реальных" боях, где все правила запрещают использовать технику винчун на полную. Только вот в реальных боях правил нет и яйца хоть у трехсоткилограммового боксера не железные, как и колени, как и локти, как и глаза, как и кадык, и щуплый, но быстрый винчунист вполне может вырубить любого бывалого боксера любого веса.

I guess everyone’s a master at fighting now with all the “It’s not realistic” comments. YES. We get it. Movies in general don’t have realistic things even if they’re grounded anyway. They’re entertainment. Which is why fight scenes have to have tension and and intensity or a form of unrealistic moment. Sure. Showing him get knocked out with one punch would be realistic. But the movie would end in an instant. In fact, ALL action movies, Eastern or Western, would end in an instant. Fight/action scenes have storytelling of their own. It’s an art form of its own. They have rhythm, pacing, artistic style, ect. This is one of those many forms. And no shade, but it’s still better than some of the Hollywood fight scenes with all the shaky cam and zoomed in fast blurry cuts where you can barely see anything tbh (although I’m glad they’re taking notes on how to make better fight scenes).
