I can vouch for the TL's. I owned an 04 Acura TL w only 130K miles on it from an auction for about 4.5K bucks. This is by far the best car I've ever had. Such a great horsepower, ridiculous comfort & fairly reasonable cost maintenance. I changed oils (engine and transmission) often and this car got me from bumper to bumper So Cal traffic to Nevada's Las Vegas, the iconic Grand Canyon, Utah, Arizona, Oregon, & all the way to Space Needle in Seattle WA with no problem, I used to also drive 8 hrs straight to North Cal every so often, drove to General Sherman in Sequoia. And I had such fun and enjoymetn from driving it. My car never went to a shop Thank God!). Honestly Most reliable car ever all the way to almost 250K miles when I sold it. I wish I still had it tbh & I hope the person who owns it now takes care of it as much as I did when I had it. I truly miss that car.
@@Pg-ch5nb you should go for it. I'm telling u, you wont regret it. Just keep up w the oil services, and if it's an 04-06 change the transmission fluid from time to time to help it last longer. There are lots of tutorials here that show you how to do it.
I have an 02 accord, definitely would recommend for anyone looking for a reliable car. They are insanely nice and rarely ever have problems as long as you keep up with general maintenance. They also can be pretty quick as long as you keep up with replacing filters, specifically the air filter.
1. Acura TL, 04-08 is their recommendation, 08-12 is good too. Reliable luxury sports sedan. Similar to the Infiniti G35/G37 and Hyundai Genesis Coupe in that they are affordable Luxury performance. In the 2000-2016 era everyone wanted to take on the BMW 3. 2. Honda Accord V6. Much cheaper V6 than TL. Acura TSX is cool too. 3. Scion tC and Toyota Celica and Toyota Corolla XRS. Very similar to the Acura RSX and Acura Integra and Honda Civic Si. 4. Honda CRV and Toyota RAV4. With America's garbage roads with potholes everywhere SUV's are a fair answer. 5. Pontiac Grand Prix GTP, kinda cool like the SN95 Ford Mustang and New Edge Mustang. Same brand that gave us the Pontiac G8 and GTO. 6. Lexus ES300

as a tl type s owner i do recommend the platform. power wise there are not many affordable good options to make big power. the stock power is very fun and with an intake and exhaust it’s definitely rowdy. the looks of the car are extremely underrated.
@@ljtimmy2621 type s we’re made in 07 and 08. your vtec solenoid could be broken. or the ecu is blocking it off because ur engine isn’t warmed up enough or your oil pressure is too low. vtec has to do with your cam so that’s important.
Need for speed underground 2 is my favourite NFS of all time, and I'd most likely always drive the celica in a few of the races, but my favourite car in that game will always be the Lexus IS300. it's a very under appreciated car in that game.
I've got a 2008 Acura TL and I love it soo much! It's a dream. It has good acceleration but nothing too crazy. It is super reliable though. Mine is over 230,000 miles and still running!

Currently owned a 2014 Scion tC and a 91 Celica and recently sold a 2011 tC. I can confirm these things don't break with the proper maintenance done. Heck I live in Canada all I need to do is put on some winter tires and I am set. Still looking for a first gen xB to add to my collection though.
How do they both compare, power/speed wise & reliability & comfort wise??? Personally loved the 1989-1993 Celica model series the best in all categories, both looks & performance esp the rare AllTrac Turbo version followed by the GT-S & GT-R models
I love my Celica, would definitely recommend it. It’s not the fastest car but it is definitely fun to drive and very reliable, parts are relatively cheap. Mine has over 300k miles and still running great
Great video. I don’t know if usually sells for under 3k , but I got my 01 Lexus GS430 for $2700. It’s ridiculously fun and that v8 has never left me stranded. Think it should definitely be on this list 😁
@@claycook2020 I love this car. It ain’t the fastest but it still surprises me how quick it really is. And sooo smooth. Even after I lowered on coilovers, it’s the smoothest ride I’ve ever had. My homies who rode in it think so too
'02-'03 Maxima. VQ with 255hp stock, 6 speed manual, and can hit 14 flat in stock form. Owners can dip into the 13s with minimal mods and we've all seen the video of the Maxima taking down the Porsche 911 at the drag strip. It looks good, has creature comforts, super reliable if maintained and decent aftermarket support from numerous vendors.
TL's are nice, my brother has one... In my state it was almost impossible to find the 3rd gen for under $5k... Only one for sale now under $3k has a rebuilt title
where do you live ? i live in nyc and found a found a manual 2007 acura tl type s with the engine not working for 1k and rebuilt it for under 2k and now it runs amazingly
Very nice if you can stay on top of the maintenance. I own a 2008 TL Type S and its age starting to show with the cracked dash and the small creaks and noises here and there.
Great list. I have a list in mind of timeless looking vehicles of certain generations/body styles and the 2004 to 2008 Acura TL is somewhere at the top. Love the look of this car; I don't think Acura has made a better looking TL to date.
I’m the proud owner of an 02 Acura TL-S (2nd gen). Got it for 2k from the original owner, always maintained by Honda on time, very very good condition. Plus with what little things I’ve done to it thus far, that being after market headlights and an exhaust and painted calipers, I absolutely love my TL and don’t plan on selling it anytime soon. Very reliable and frankly living here in WA, it does amazing in the snow with having only FWD.
Worked my way up with a beater Mitsubishi Lancer and now I drive a 2016 Mercedes’ c300 with a 4 year warranty for only 28k out the door. The car only has 47,000 miles and I’m the 2nd owner. I used that ideal strategy and it worked!
Nice, for me i would never buy a used german car again because its gonna cost you a lot for maintanance and repairs because one day its gonna break down since its a used and ive dealt with them and once i had one used bmw and i sold it to someone because it started having troubles which were not worth for repairs. Back then I was broke. Now i own a g80 m3 competition that had around 80kms on it brand new. came with 3 years warranty. Came with the price of 200k aud. Love it since day 1. My plan is to keep it for 6 years then sell it because i dont wanna be paying for expensive repair prices. Hope one day you have enough money to get yourself your dream car!
I’ve had several 6th gen accords, once you have a clean one you become addicted to its simple but clean body lines and timeless look. The aftermarket supports is there but there isn’t a lot of bolt on options for a substantial amount of power. The F23 and J30 are neither very fast, but very reliable. Th v6 only came in automatic, while the 4cyl came in both auto and manual. The auto transmissions pretty much leave the chat after about 280-340k, but the manuals last so long. There are several engine swaps that are almost direct drop in for this chassis, like the J32 6MT from a TL type S, as well as F20B, H23A, H22A etc. Overall great car that you will love and get attached to, as well as want to mod.
I purchased my e46 for about 2500 in June. I checked back on the market a few days ago and was shocked to see that they are now going for double that. mine has 190k-ish miles
Awesome. I paid $2500 for a 2002 325i two weeks ago from a friend that keep it garaged. Super clean, new tires. I'm most impressed with how the engine pulls.
Celica Gang!! i daily an 03 GTS TRD. its basically a Integra type r by Toyota. 8000k RPM, Toyota VTEC, amazing handling, and a fraction of the price of the Integra. its got it all. and that 2zz-ge is the best sounding, most engaging engine I've ever driven. many are faster, but so few are having as much fun as I am, especially for the 4k I paid for it. and I hammer on this thing everyday on my commute to work, but even at 340k, she runs like dream and has never let me down once
I had a 2013 TL and now drive a 2021 Tesla Model 3 with acceleration boost and boy, lemme tell you the admiration and appreciation for my old TL. I owned the TL for about 5-6 years and never once did I take it to the shop for any maintenance service besides a very regimented oil change. I truly miss that car and plan on buying another one as a daily driver in the near future.
Only bad thing about the 6th gen Honda Accord is the V6 auto trashmission. Definitely a great line up of vehicles. Have the Accord with over 250k on it now and paid $800 a few years ago. Had a GTP 20 years ago with upgrades and it was pretty fun except passing a cop at 111mph but only got me at 91mph. Could have used that lawyer deal back then. Lol Always good content Brad!
Scion is a hilarious lesson in marketing and understanding consumers. It was meant to be for young people. It was meant to be cool. Which naturally means scions are pretty much exclusively the domain of nerdy college kids and old people who like that the XB is easy to get in and out of.
@@marchedgie6838 many young people simply went/go straight to Toyota Nissan Honda etc. No need for ridiculous Scion subbrand as theyre all part of Toyota anyways & ARE marketed in many countries as Toyotas & not Scions

Something failed to be mentioned in the video.. The Celica is nice and all... But a Pontiac Vibe/Vibe GT/ Matrix/ Matrix XRS are the same thing as the Celica, more common and cheaper. Also 4dr with a useable hatch

@@nooks764 I plan to engine swap it with a plug and play engine called the J35A6 and then swap the cams and headers with the J35A8’s and boom I basically got the Type S engine
Not one engine swap is ever just plug and play bro, not only will you have to modify wiring, fuel system etc. Then you will need someone to program that ecu with your vin number, and have fun making it pass emissions depending on your state laws. I would suggest working on the chassis first, replace all your suspension bushings, quality coil overs, stiffer sway bars.. it has 250k on the clock, I'm guessing those parts are more than tired. No sense in making it faster if it wont handle for crap
I hate to break this to you but in the Chicago area the TLs that are around $4K are the ones with 300,000 miles. To get one with 120,000 miles you'll pay around $9K.
Yepp...And I'm pretty sure he was showing and describing the S-Type which is even more. Just bought an 07 Acura TL in AZ 3 months ago and paid $7k for it... had 120k miles . This list is a little off but it is nice
i have an 06 crv and she has never let me down. 209000 miles and has 0 issues. parts are cheap, and it is an amazing car for me when i can drive early next year!
I definitely agree on mentioning the tl. But I decided to get a 2010 sh-awd to have the awd handling along with the big boy 3.7l v6 as well as that 6 speed manual transmission
Ford Thunderbird. Most are automatic, and don't touch the base model's (they are hideously slow). But, independent rear, V8/Supercharged V6 and an extremely welcoming and open community filled with tons of information and love.
Since you picked a Pontiac Gran Prix, here's another abandoned GM product: 2004-2007 Saturn Vue V6. For those years Saturn installed Honda 3.5L V6 engines (J35S1) and Honda 5 speed transmissions. There was even an AWD version. That's pretty much the same engine as in the Odyssey, Pilot, Ridgeline, V6 Accord, and Acura MDX. Lots of power and plenty of parts available. My Honda guy calls it the "Poor Man's CR-V". It even has more interior space than the CRV (but it doesn't come with the cool table). There are lots of these available for less than $3k. I paid $750 for mine, did about $1500 in maintenance (timing belt kit, water pump, shocks, brakes, etc.), and couldn't be happier.
I DONT recommend an Acura TL as a first car…only because it was my first car and I got into SO much trouble lol!!! 270 HP is nothing to me now, but oh man the things my friends and I did in that car was insane hah. I do miss my TL sometimes lmao
Imagine you first car being forced on you to be an econobox.. and next thing u know you get a job at a mechanic shop and next thing u know it dynoes at 642whp in a 1.8l. Not exactly what my parents wanted
Great list. I'll add two more to this list. The Mazda MX6 (2nd Gen) HIGHLY underrated, but are hard to find nowadays. The Hyundai Tiburon will also make a great starting point (as I am an owner of one myself). Just make sure to get the manual and not the auto. Can't really go too wrong with the 4 cyl or the V6 model.
I have a 2012 tl with awd and it's been an amazing car the last 5 years, but I agree that 3rd gen tl is a stunner I've always loved the sleak look of em
My dad still has a 2002 crv and that car is pretty good for its price, but I didn't expect it to be on a great car list but now I get it because that car is reliable.
my mom actually bought a 2000 celica gts for me to learn manual in. if your looking for a fun car that’s a go to. they came with 100 hp per liter and they’re light. we sold the car and i honestly miss it.
@@oscar7476 they have a bunch of mods you can do to make them look way newer, if you’re into jdm/ ricers you can find parts online for cheap and build a pretty sick looking car. Look up CRV body kits.
Whats up Brad just figured I'd share that I just picked up an E36 for under $2500. Its not an M3 but its a 28 vert. Very clean with suspension done and some wheels that I can resell. New top and 127k on the clock. Thats another fun car that you can pick up cheap and build up some hp easily. JS ✌
For my Canadians out there, if you want a Honda si 08’ I recommend the Acura csx type-s! Just like the si but Acura 💀 and it’s more technologically advance than the civic (I think)
I bought a 2001 Honda Accord for 3k about 3 yrs ago . 140k miles, now has 162+miles . Had to replace water pump. No other big problems . I am third owner.
As a 98-02 Honda Accord owner I can vouch that theses cars are built amazing very reliable but one thing that gets me upset about it is the lack of aftermarket support. You either would have to get something cuztom made or find luck on Facebook marketplace
Also to add on when you do find aftermarket parts they tend to be overpriced due to it being rare,on top of that all manual accords came with 4 lug set up which isn’t the best when trying to find wheels especially since it’s a bigger civic so your basic 16 inch wheels look like baby shoes on it. You can alway do the five lug swap but just be ready to waste some money
2004 to 2006 mitsubishi lancer ralliart 2.4L (not the oz rally ) this car is never covered by any car enthusiasts but they are good cars and when you start to modify it you will have alot of fun with this car
I have the Mitsubishi Lancer DE edition and I hate it. Don’t get me wrong it is a resilient car that has never failed me but it’s way too basic. Not a fun drive at all.
Would love for y’all to find an actual TL under 3k. They run closer to 5 at least for a decent one that doesn’t need work and the Type S ones can run 10k still,
Dude i am fed up with the celica lmao, here in Washington if you can find one under 4k its been through 12 accidents, 2 engines, 12 owners, spay painted paint job and a swapped guage cluster so it looks like its got 130,000 miles when the vin says its got 480,000
Honestly they're all good cars.....just don't expect much when it comes to performance outta any of them without a full engine swap or a turbo kit with full bolt on.
@@newreformationapologetics4953 I say that would depend on driver skill, spend some cash on suspension and wheels and it would be just as good as the vehicles you mentioned
@@newreformationapologetics4953 I understand the pile of variables, curb weight being the biggest, weight distribution, etc. Let's just be real though, for the majority of people watching these videos, quality adjustable coil overs, stiffer roll bars and good tires will make damn near anything handle like it's on rails, it might not have 50/50 weight distribution but it would definitely be much more satisfying to drive. I own and drive a 98 b5 a4, 2.8l 30v v6, 5 speed manual, all wheel drive, it's fun as hell to drive, while my other car a 2008 cobalt ss turbocharged is fun but only going straight ( which is funny to say seeing as the 08 turbo was a record holder on the nurburgring), but I guess fun would be all up to perspective.
I owned a 2001 Grand prix GTP as my first car. $500 facebook marketplace find. Oil change, new tires and alignment and it ran through all of my teenage years abuse including 2 encounters with the ditch. What isnt mentioned here but should be is it comes with a Heads Up Display. And I still miss having one to this day.
Not only is the Grand Prix GTP reliable but ZZP has a huge section of high performance parts and for fairly cheap you can make them look killer. Not the most luxurious cars but the digital heads up display, sunroof, 6-8 speakers w/6x9's and a factory boost guage makes the interiors very enjoyable. If you're willing to go over 3k you can find some nice Special Edition's, 40th Anniversary's, Daytona Pace Car Edition, F1 GTP or a SLP GTX.

Very similar to the
Acura RSX and Acura Integra and Honda Civic Si.
6. Lexus ES300

Got my 2nd Gen TL type-S for $1800 she wont die. They also top out at 152 instead of 134 like the 3rd gens.
Thank you for your help about CHEAP BUT GOOD CARS to own. I did have a 2014 Scion xB with only 77k miles on it. I figured it would be my LAST CAR I would own (I'm 69years old). Unfortunately for me some lady wasn't paying attention to her driving and SLAMMED ME FROM BEHIND, it was TOTALED. This happened just when the USED CAR PRICES started to SKYROCKET. The insurance company would NOT REPLACE my car so that put me in a BAD SITUATION, my birthday was coming up and I didn't want to get caught without transportation so I bought a '97 Chevy Tahoe for RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION but of course it doesn't get very good gas mileage which now is TERRIBLE CONSIDERING THE PRICE OF GAS NOW. So with this video and the other one I watched about cars that will LAST 1,000K MILES. THANK YOU 😁👍
3rd gen TL bits you should’ve mentioned.
-Interiors basically fall apart. Seats are typically ripped dashboards are ALWAYS cracked.
-07 and 08 Type S were the only ones that came with the Brembo front calipers. Good luck buying one of those under $6k
Great cars but should give pros and cons.
As an ex owner of a 6th gen Accord,
-I never wanted to sell mine. However,
V6 models were never optioned with a manual, only the 4 cylinders
-The auto trans behind the V6 models are known to 💩 the bed once they get above 150k.
-The 4 cylinder cars (even the 5 speeds) are pretty dang slow. Mine would barely outrun a stock LS Integra. The 5 speed transmission is geared extremely long.
Celica is dope! 2ZZ ALLL DAY!
Please do a vid about the Honda fits the forgotten car that is actually fun to drive
What’s the website called
the reason i love ideal so much is because he tells me exactly what i need: best cars, first cars, cheap and fun cara for a goingtobe college student🎉 thanks ideal
Another great car is the 89-97 ford Thunderbird V8 RWD and the 94-97 have the 4.6l 2v I have one with a street build and it's a great budget car
2002-2003 5.5 gen Nissan Maxima 3.5 V6 with 6-speed. I don't know why people aren't talking about this car, but it's pretty cheap where I live (U.S), decent reliability, and a pretty quick sleeper sedan. All 6-speed Maximas I found on Facebook Marketplace were all no more than $3k with 160k miles or less in decent condition.
i had my 2006 Scion xB for 14 years from new for daily 100 mile commute. gave it to my sister after it had 450,000 miles. all original except for alternator, water pump and exhaust. she drove it for a while and then gave it to someone else. I heard it just died a week or so ago with around 480k miles. I don't think they were diligent about changing and keeping oil in it. best car i ever had. replaced now with a 2020 prius prime for my now 130 mile roundtrip commute. my 2012 Sienna now has 200k miles
