I recently renewed my Thai drivers license. Last time I used an agent. This time I did it myself and I made a trip out of it. Turned out to be one of the easiest things I have done in Thailand. Very inexpensive and time saving as well. I will tell you all about it!

My name is Brian but everyone calls me Greeny. I retired in January of 2020 after working 30 years in Law Enforcement. I wanted to retire young enough to be able to do some of the things I always dreamed about! I knew I wanted to travel extensively and retire somewhere warm and exotic I sampled a ton of places in the Caribbean, Panama, Colombia, Turkey but set my sights on Thailand.

so the sticks up and down is the red button to move up & down correct and once it meets u just push the yellow to confirm or the green.
Pretty much
Paid 500 to police connected Thais I got it in 15 minutes, without a written or driving test That was 18 years ago under Thaksin about 2005. Similar my visa in Cambodia The good ole days, when money talked.
Wow, I am so happy I seen this video. I have done my license in Chon Buri a few times and that place is always so busy. I will definitely go to Rayong next time. Thanks.
Lot easier but make an appointment online
Great info greeny...thank you
Appreciate it.
Imagine that, doing something without using an agent and learning how to do it yourself.
Amazing!
Though for some retirees, it's probably difficult for them to find the time!
That’s all I have is time 😂
Indeed I did the same, I renewed my motorcycle and car driving licence in Klaeng in the beginning of this year, Very easy process! I have a condo literally 400 meters from the Centara hotel, towards the west. It is right on the beach, just next to the Mercure Rayong Lomtalay Resort. Actually I would prefer this Hotel above the Centara Hotel. It has an even more private beach and you have many restaurants as well as a 7-Eleven at walking distance ....
Will have to try that one next time. Drove past it cruising around
Greeny thank you always for the invaluable information you provide at no costs and without private consultations. Passport bros please pay attention and take notes. Thanks again.
Appreciate it Todd!!
Thanks, Greeny. That was great information. I tried getting a license during the pandemic and had to wait. I gave up. Now I should look into getting it again now that we’re back to a more normal life. I will definitely flunk the color test, but not to worry as I can see colors. It’s when the colors have similar saturation and are more close that I have problems. I can definitely see the difference in traffic signals and other than being rather hyperopic, get along just fine.
It will be interesting to see how you do on the test
@@GreenyTravels I’ve seen it already. Not a problem. But when they give those numbers made from different hues of green and blue that’s a problem for me. I see primary and secondary colors just fine.
i think the agencies in pattaya are helpful as they make driving license for tourists and take care as well of certs for residency
I did that last time. Problem now in pattaya is you have to go to the land transports office 2 days
Awesome video! I'll be heading to the land office next month to get mine.
Great info Greeny! I'll b needing to do that when I get there this fall. Take care bud. Good to know. 😊
Will be easy in Isan
thank you
Nice hotel roomr Greeny! Great view!
Thanks. Wish the weather was nicer.
Always best to obtain your drivers' licenses out of the main touristy areas. Like Greeny, bring a Thai friend to help with the language barrier. You save enough money that you could cover a day excursion with a friend. 👍
Yep. Worth buying your friend lunch or drinks
Great video Brian 👍
Thanks Robert
Always learning something new and useful with you. Great job. Thanks. Happy travels and stay safe. God bless you all👍🏿.
Appreciate it Antonio
What an awesome idea . Good advice 👍
Appreciate it.
Greeny, thanks for sharing this video. It is very informative and offers a great hack on renewing one's drivers license. 😊
Was a nice little get away
I just renewed my Motorbike and Car license at Chonburi myself, yes I had to go two times but there was hardly any waiting time. Just gave me a date the following week. Apparently you can renew both licenses up to six months before expiration! So now I have both 5 years licenses valid until my birthday, so for me it’s valid for 5 years 8 months.
Nice. I only get 5 years and 1 month.
Bookmarked, thanks Greeny.
Thanks 🙏
This is an AD for the Hotel!!
Wish they paid me. 🤑
I got mine for car 🚗 the other day in Bangkok .. In person , myself it was quite straightforward, an agent quoted me 2500b 😅. It cost 205b plus I already had a valid medical certificate 🙏 the tests were ok
One of the easier things to do here is
IDP is only valid for 90 days after entry to Thailand to the best of my knowledge.
It’s that or 6 months. I can’t remember. Definitely not a permanent solution
Maybe I missed something and that is the "e-learning" which I had to do on my PC at home ( used to be 1 hour in the office looking at a video movie!!) After finishing that you get a paper saying : e-learning completed and had to hand that over to the office lady on the appointment date. The appointment was indeed easy by phone. Furthermore it seems that each office has a different way of testing. I only had to do the traffic light and brake test. Only 2!!! not the other 2 and not B310 but B 505!! Anyway I never used an agent to get my licences. It is a waste of time and money
In Pattaya I only had to do the Brake test to renew my motorbike license. I think each office different
How the other half live....!!...............................great info.......................
Thank you.
You can just get an IDP from your home country and solve the hassle. Or just have 200-500 baht as coffee money ready if your IDP expires with your home driving license being current during a routine stop. Done it a million times.
When you are here for years it’s a good idea to get a driver’s license here if you are going to drive
@@GreenyTravels been here since the 90s mate.
Much easier having a Thai license long term. My village cops actually requested that I get the real license since I live here. Very easy.
@@AZdreaminn An IDP only costs $20 however if you can't get access to your renewed IDP or can't exit the country than its a good idea to get a thai license. For those who already have your home license w IDP you can just use it. I have even used my home license w/o the IDP at a traffic stop and had no problems.
@@mst6429 I have heard of some other people being able to do that with just their American drivers license. Plus I think it’d be cool to have a Thai license. Haha.Thanks.
What’s the app? Couldn’t read it
DLT smart queue
Does having a yellow book help you get the pink id card and the the licences? I heard its useful in Thailand to have the yellow book
You can get pink I’d card and get license with that but only for your home province. Need residency letter from immigration to have license for the whole country. Weird rules here
@@GreenyTravels thanks Greeny
How useful is it to also get an international drivers permit in Thailand and will it allow you to rent cars in say Europe etc. with it?
It does help to get your initial license here so you don’t have to go to a class
@@GreenyTravels I mean after you get your 5 year license you can get a Thai Intl Driving Permit, but will it get you rentals in Europe? Its unclear.
@@rickmccann4016You just need the 5 year Thai licence. Used that to hire a car at LHR a few years back, think it was Avis. Seem to recall, if using credit card, that needs to be registered to your Thai address but could be wrong.
app name please
Possible flooding scares me from buying.
That was a huge concern for me. The place I found high and dry. At the end of the soi you literally have to walk down 50 steps to go to the beach.
Im thinking Panama for retirement your take on it
I went to Panama City. Not cheap and has that Central America creepy feel. There may be some amazing spots around the country but I was just in the coty
Greeny....🍻👍
I live with my girlfriend at “her” residence. Will I be able to get a letter of residency? I do already have a Thai drivers license from previous employment but no longer work there and came back to United States but travel back to Thailand frequently for two months at the time but again I live at her apartment.
She should be able to
Nice hotel 😊
Nice view. A little dated.
@@GreenyTravels the area good though isn’t it ?
wow they let you video inside. I tried videoing and they said NO. very strict
So if someone is red/green color blind would they not be able to get a driver’s license in Thailand?
Not sure what arrangements would need to be made. Maybe can not
FLYING LICENSE...EASY TO GET
😂. Not for me
Drivers license here in the states costs me 2100 baht. lol.
Yep. Everything jacked up there
Greeny, After seeing how the traffic is in Bangkok and Pattaya with all the accidents and deaths I think anyone driving there is really taking their life in their own hands. There's no where in Bangkok or Pattaya that you can't get to because of taxis, Uber, and baht buses and it's so cheap there's no point to me in risking your life.
Then you are putting your life in their hands. You just described how some people drive here. That could be the guy driving you.
@@GreenyTravels I have personally seen how they drive and the volume of motorbikes and I don't think it's as safe as driving in other countries. It doesn't matter if I'm driving or someone else there the statistics for road accidents and fatalities is amongst the highest of any country in the world.
i am not suicidal yett,so no driving in that psyco traffick in thailand.
Definitely takes some patience and getting used to but I want to live my life to the fullest and being mobile helps
Better than firing a hockey puck at you
If you can dodge a ball you cans dodge a hockey puck
@@GreenyTravels Depth perception.... I know a guy that has won a lot of drag race competitions that used to skate speedskating workouts I'd coach and he had a depth perception issue... as in, none. On roller speedskating tracks, there are 4 cones that are off set so you can come out of the courner without running over the second cone. Kenny would just run dead into the first cone on a regular basis. (quads not inlines) I'm wondering how he fixed that sight issue so he could go high speeds in a car..... Maybe its just no turning but how does he get to the track....
Owe I could eat all that durian at one time stuff Is so could , had a Malaysian black rice pudding one time topped with durian oh so good or even durian vietnamese shake, itz harder to find fruit in the west even in Vancouver with a 500,000 Asians
Sounds delicious
You should stil show your us licence if you have to pay a fine 😂😂😂
I don’t even have one anymore. I don’t have a home state
