I met a very sharp 85 year old lady in French Polynesia, that’s a lifelong traveler. She said something that stuck with me. A “traveler” has to be adaptable. Travel very rarely goes 100% perfect.
Pretty funny video chief. I’m glad your sticking up for yourself and getting refunds when they try to rip you off. Credit card companies help protect you from these scams. Yes, I am 64 now, and have travelled a lot. Too much drama now, I would rather stay home, walk my dalmatian each morning, good shower pressure, reliable wifi, 75 inch tv, golf course nearby, pool in backyard, supermarket 5 mins away. In Napier, New Zealand.
Sounds great but your not swimming much in that pool unless it's heated yes your climate is probably the best in NZ but it's still too cold for swimming 7 months a year but yes the drama of traveling just getting in and out of customs is a real drama

We just came home from Thailand last week - 90 days early. We're just too old - in our 70s. Too many tripping hazards, random dangers, smells and not our first time there we've seen all the stuff before and just not willing to put up with This Is Thailand stuff any more. It’s so stressful lately. 1. Too many people are traveling. Places are so crowded. It’s become a social media clout activity. We go to the same places, see the same shit, all to get a pic or video to prove we’ve been there. 2. My wife usually gets irritable. You could never tell from the social media feed, she’s cranky most of the time. 3. This takes a fair bit of health and stamina. Just the airport alone seems to require walking a mile. Most of the places I go are ancient cities with crude sidewalks. Gotta watch your step constantly. Hills, stairs. 4. Most everywhere you go, the natives like your money but don’t really like you. 5. Getting sick usually 6. I think they’re intentionally making coach less comfortable to try to force you to upgrade 7. Airport security 8. You spend all this money, have an experience, but then it’s gone. 9. Sun too strong, too hot 10. Usually over do it on vacay. Try to do too much because of time pressure. Then it’s like I have to go back to work to relax. 11. I’ve got work to do no matter what. I’ve done payroll trying to use cruise ship internet. And nobody does my work while I’m gone. I am sure once I showed up at the airport they would have stung me for more money to change the name on the tickets. And I was booking return tickets for 3 different people with stopovers in other parts of Asia in between. So, 12 tickets in all to be changed. You have got to wonder if they do these things on purpose. Guys if you have a middle name showing on your passport make sure you include it when you book your airline tickets on line! Even if it doesn't ask for it
Glad I'm not the only one! My latest one is Lazada cancelling orders and refunding to a Lazada Wallet I never signed up for - refund it to the bank or credit card I used. Insanity is the new norm.
After being stranded for days in Bali during volcano eruption trying to find flights out. I will never fly with the airline you mentioned. No way to call, no help at the desk at the airport, the chat feature in app is worthless. They sent an email flight was canceled as we were on the way to the airport. It’s been a month and still no communication about refund. From now on I will pay more for an airline that has better customer service.
I know your frustration with the BO chatbot on Airasia. We had to cancel our ticket from BKK to Seoul and I had to navigate through it. I’m a pretty tech savvy guy so it was still pretty daunting. In the end I did get a ticket refund but would rather be able to call into a customer service number and speak to a real person instead. I get this is how companies are trying to cut costs but I don’t like this direction.
One of the main reasons why I only travel 2-3 times a year now is all of the reasons mentioned and the fact that you know you are being ripped off by local businesses in the tourist areas but have no choice but to use them 🤷♂️ The worst for me is being stuck on a flight with someone who has no manners, hygiene or etiquette
Greeny I have followed some of your travels during the year. Really liked your video on Phu Quoc. I have had problems trying to book a Hotel room in Quebec City.. You have every right to be mad the Airlines for over charging and giving you the run around. That is what I would say. I think I will slow down and just by car to different places I have not been before.
Yea I’ve had some weird things happen with Air Asia as well. I always got to where I was going eventually, however the Online Booking was all jacked up. It seems I’d always get to the last step where you pay and then my Card info would never go thru. Turns out you can pay for your Air Asia Flight at 7-11 which I never knew, so I went into the closest one and the Clerk at 7-11 gave me my Confirmation number and receipt and told me to have a nice Flight lol
I agree with you just about on everything you have said. I don’t have the patience I did in the past for all this shitty service. Even the service from intra Asia flight attendants has gone down. Its changed quite a bit in the last couple years. We still travel but I expect that I will have a few episodes on every trip where I will be pissed off for something. Man I can name off so many things. 🤬
I am now just succeeding in using my credit/vouchers Air Asia "gave me" when I lost 2000 euros for 6 flights cancelled by them due to Covid. 3 years later. I guess so many thai customers complained that they had to do something about it.
Haha, great video. Always good to have a blow out, I doubt YT will pay on this one…. Too many expletives 😂 Sounds like you need a few months in one location. You’re a traveller, you’ll get the itch to go again soon enough!
Air Asia is great when everything falls in to place but you're right, their customer service sucks. I've used their app a lot but if I can use an American app like Expedia. I use them
Yep, I was sick as a dog after coming back from Thailand. This woman 3 rows up from me was hacking like an old man who smoked no filter cigs for 40 years. I hate when these sick people get on flights without masks and don't cover when they sneeze or cough. Traveling is a huge hassle these days and flights suck. However, I'm already missing Thailand and can't wait to return. I think as we get older, travel gets harder for us to tolerate. I can already see a day when I can't do 21-hour (total airtime) flights, as they will be too much for me or I will only do them once every 18 months. Behind Banks and Insurance companies, airlines are the biggest scammers in the world. Airline companies track the cookies from your computer and every time you check prices for a flight the amount goes up, it's a total scam. I guess I'm flowing now too. I'll see you soon buddy, we'll hit some places when I get back.
I retired from the practice of law at 50 and my younger Thai wife and I have spent the last 15 years traveling all over the world. I was pretty much done with it. But then we were quite unexpectedly blessed with a baby girl this year after 16 years of marriage and I want her to see the world so off again.
Agree with you completely regarding the terrible customer ”service” these days but also have to say that a lot of the customers are pretty terrible too… That’s one of the reasons I love Thailand, generally speaking, service and those being serviced is way better and drama free vs the U.S. and Europe… 🙏🏻
That’s true. I think the biggest problem is the big companies like the airlines are trying to run things like the west. All about profit and shareholders.
@GreenyTravels I've always felt that comfort & simplicity of air travel worldwide began a nosedive trajectory by following the US domestic flight model of a la carte pricing. The "libertarian" model of paying for only what you use has resulted in corporations nickel & diming you for anything they can possibly think of. Soon the airlines will be installing coin-operated doors on the lavatories & installing passenger weighing machines at check-in 🤦♂️
You crack me up Greeny! Funny Man indeed. You remind of that scene in - " Planes, Trains and Automobiles with Steve Martin". If you haven't seen it, you should!
Greeny. I not only live down the road from you in Rayong, I come from up the road from where you come from, except on the northern side of the S.S.M. border. I was even a cop like you. Been retired here for ten years. First thing to help you chill out in Thailand is stop trying to be an American. You don’t have to personally drive everywhere. You can take a taxi from Jomtien to Don Muang airport which will drop you off at the front door. No parking problems or long hikes to departures. And stop traveling everywhere. As you correctly point out, the travel industry has forgotten what service is about. It ain’t about travel, it’s about making a profit. Where you live, you can get a Forza or XMax (or drive your car) to excellent beaches starting in Satahip, Ban Chang, and to even more gorgeous beaches on the other side of Rayong at Mai Rumpin or Lai Mai Pim on the other side of Ban Phe. Lots of resorts on the water or in the nearby mountains. There is enough to see in the province and further north in Chantaburi to enjoy. As soon as you decide to fly somewhere, you spend half your trip in cramped transport or airports etc. Slow down and enjoy the view all around you. Sabai. Sabai.
Travelling is overrated. I have many similar frustrating experiences that always cost me money. Im going to find a place or region I like and stay there. Usually, there’s enough to see and do locally to keep a guy happy and preoccupied for a good while.
Greeny, try flying business by using your CC points. Even premium economy is much better than economy. I fly Cathay Pacific, the customer service is pretty good. The trend these days is to reduce call centers and use the chat box…they do work, you need to be patient though…
when I started traveling to SE asia back when I was in my 40's, I did made a number of mistakes while booking on airasia. but eventually I got the hang of it booking from them. I don't make mistakes any more. so don't feel bad, I think many people had to go thru a learning process with airasia. and yes, it's much easier to just have them give you credits then money back. as to hotels stays and etc, I have been avoiding vacationing in the US like the plague. you never get your money's worth especially when you gotten used to the SE asia's higher end hotels. and the US hotels don't come cheap. 3 years ago when I commented on how much I spent in thailand per trip, and listed $200 per night of hotel stay, both you and one of your buddies called me B.S. on it. I wasn't. And staying in the US, places like silicon valley, SF, and etc, many hotels cost well over $200 per night and no breakfast either. I think you'll do fine once you gotten to be more vigilant at double checking your bookings before hit the submit button.
You are so correct and in the states now they charge extra for regular parking your car and also add on resort fees but don’t disclose when u booked them and the list goes on and on ,at are age thinking max 6 hour drive to my destination or stay home, oh also all the people who cut in line when boarding a plane by section etc etc
International travel used to be the purview of the wealthy; now Joe Six Pack can travel the world. In my personal experience, rude ,self absorbed travelers do make the experience less enjoyable. I totally get where Greeny is coming from :)
Thailand is the winner hands down. Pretty sure I have reached a similar pinnacle; all the best of everything is in thailand anyway. Stick to travel for work and family reasons only
I can say travel to thailand and fili are not worth it because both places are not performing by choice according to what they can fairly. Both destinations are bearable rather than pleasureable compared to 5 years ago
Virgin airlines pulled the middle name charge scam on me, when I checked in at a US airport. It was more of a rude judgement call from the attendant at the check in desk than a Virgin policy. I now check my tickets against travel documents to ensure they match exactly before going to the airport.
A LOT of us that travel to Thailand frequently and within Thailand can relate so well... its reality that flying is full of hazards..funny vid as we all know what he's talking about
Man I can so relate to this, not so much with travel but everyday life. Customer service is becoming so rare that when I do encounter someone who has great customer service I'm shocked. I live in NYC, not for much longer, and since the pandemic it has really become a miserable place to live, for so many reasons. Because of that people just don't give af. Quality of life overall has really tanked since 2020.
@GreenyTravels Agreed. I've lived here 15 years, there's always been some of that but unfortunately the city has turned into a cesspool full of mental patients. It can improve but that will take putting people in charge that give a damn. Come April I'm out, back to Seattle ( not perfect either but MUCH better) for 7 more years and then retiring to Chiang Mai.
Wowwowwow Greeny, when we travel in Thailand. We road trip it. There are so many towns, temples, restaurants, and resorts. Everything is cheap. Gardens are beautiful. Those flights sound expensive. I found the same problem with Move Air Asia apt. The dates search and middle name. I found Agoda has great customer service. Flights and rooms. You can call and get a person. They are responsive. Since I'm a regular customer, Agoda once changed a ticket date error, free of charge .Because I called quickly. I have learned to triple check before clicking a booking, and then I double check conformation emails and check my credit card app. For charges. We have learned to travel domesticly and then internationally then domestic. I've found it less stressful. Your upper respiratory illness is stress related. Not related to travel . Those colds used to affect me before I completely retired. Now we don't get sick anymore. Destress your life and get into meditation. You'll thank me later.
lol I loved this video. I’ve had all those frustrations and the refund battles are such a pain in the hoop. And don’t get me started on smelly people. Do they know or not know? Disgusting
All the travel industry executives are living high on the hog while the poorly paid and trained ground level staff try to run things. Also when it rains it pours.
You're not wrong. These days air travel is a pain in the arse. It's not the actual flight, even though that can be unbearable next to someone who stinks, but it's the airports which gives me the shits . It's a cattle call Not worth it. I rather do car trips in the vicinity of where I live,Chiang Mai . I never run out of places worth an excursion . But airports, living up several times then sitting next to a stranger who they picked for me and It's a torture..while I paid for the pleasure..then your fuck up for a refund you have to beg for ,who needs it?
Greeny needs his coffee and donuts.😊 sorry just joking. My worst was I got stuck in St. Louis once for 11.5 hours they kept lying about when the plane was coming.
As a Brit, there are very few Americans i find funny but you should be a stand up comedian. This had me laughing out loud and Greeny Rants could be a new direction for this channel or maybe start a second channel and just moan about everyday life and the state of the corporate world, it would be a smash hit, id subscribe, i need a laugh! 👍☺️🥳
Taking a break too... Been at it since they first told us we couldn't leave our homes (so I left the country). Working from bad chairs, everyone thinkin' you're rich, bad Airbnbs- but play nice so THEY don't leave you a bad review... and etc. Back to Texas for some brisket, garage sales, car travel and English (...for a couple of years haha. Then to the southern Med. (Turkey, Sardinia, Albania, etc...)!. From (currently) Buenos Aires, *A. P.S.- and I'll remind you (and myself) kind sir: “It’s not what you look at that matters. It’s what you see.” - Henry David Thoreau *Now jump in that pool and work it off. **I'll add- that when I do the Med. I'll fly to Portugal and then take trains and ferries until I'm ready to fly home (2-3yrs). Flights are what ruin it all!
They ain’t getting me on the middle name Greeny - I don’t have one! I’m 53 and I am not keen on the travel part of a trip either, especially long flights. But I’m ok once I’m there. I really hate flying home (to UK) from Suvarnabhumi as takes a lifetime to get through fkn passport control and baggage check there. I refuse the crap airline food always. And put earphones in playing music so I don’t have to listen to anyone - it makes me more relaxed. 😊
Only use American Express, they will typically fight on your behalf. Otherwise, there is almost no recourse with these boot-leg travel /airlines issuing credits.... Travel isn't what it's cracked up to be......haven't seen u in Bang Saray yet 😮
I have AE. It’s delta and they have been really getting tight with points. The whole industry going to hell. On a side note I have Delta and United stock I bought during Covid that up good
Greeny these issues you’re having are symptomatic of early retirement. Travel and TH-cam vlogging have become work. And with work comes stress and aggravation. I think you should still travel to Bali so you can report back to us your findings. It’ll be a working holiday because you’re not really retired.
I wish i had your problems with traveling 5 times in a year im lucky to get away once a year in North America. The last 4 years ive driven to florida and new orleans to cruise ports. Ive done it this way because i dont want to rely on airlines to get it right. Meaning get me and my family and luggage to the destination and on time. At least when I drive i have more control over my time amd belongings. I willnlet you know how my next trip goes in April as we are flying.
You need to chill,Thailand is fraught with nonsensical obstacles. If you let them bother you, you'll be one of the miserable old man expats. I gotta tell you, my Italian temper has been a problem for me most of my life, I'm learning. Sabi sabi
I hear ya! I always say its 2024 we should have teleportation like Star Trek by now right 😉😅 Our flights to Thailand are even a bit shorter than yours but still nearly 30 hours total. It is like a marathon just beats the crap out of us. Plus as you say service is crap even when we are paying thousands in total ....sheesh! 🤔 PS: the domestic Air Asia you mention is the absolute worse of any airline period! Even just adding baggage is nuts! They also charged me in Malaysian Ringgit
Don't you hate it when some airlines act like cowards and don't have a customer service phone line. Inconvenient, but I will go to 7-11 within 24 hours and pay in cash for air tickets made on line. I am so disgusted with some airline companies , and it is not without its trials, that I will travel as a retired US military, if things align just right I can go from the west coast to Thailand for 80 USD, although people active and retired airlines have it better.
I do not like to travel but I go back to the USA about every 3 years. I have never had any trouble. I am 82 and so I may not go back to the USA ever again.
You know life is good when traveling is the most stressful thing for you!

Haha, great video. Always good to have a blow out, I doubt YT will pay on this one…. Too many expletives 😂
Sounds like you need a few months in one location. You’re a traveller, you’ll get the itch to go again soon enough!
I think truck is to wait till later in the video. Maybe that stop paying attention
Air Asia is great when everything falls in to place but you're right, their customer service sucks. I've used their app a lot but if I can use an American app like Expedia. I use them
That may be better next time
Thumbs up 👍 Greeny…..the middle name thing happen to us in Shanghai 😡
Definitely a big China thing. They try do be very particular or want to charge you
I’ve thought the same thing it seems same things I find those pitfalls happen too often !
Something shady is going on
Yep, I was sick as a dog after coming back from Thailand.
Yep. All scammers and incompetence. Just felt with them again today. They make so many errors.
There is always issues...stay positive
Thanks
I retired from the practice of law at 50 and my younger Thai wife and I have spent the last 15 years traveling all over the world. I was pretty much done with it. But then we were quite unexpectedly blessed with a baby girl this year after 16 years of marriage and I want her to see the world so off again.
New baby. Congratulations. That will make you feel young again
If you haven't seen it, you should!
lol. Yes. Been a while though since I saw it
Greeny you look lean. Keep up the good work.
Thank you
Take cruise ship to America, stop in Hawaii…. Try Japan to LA or Seattle they stop in Hawaii….
Travel like everything else in life gets harder as you get older
Getting old sucks
Sabai. Sabai.
Very sound advice!! Now that we are settled here in Chiang Rai it’s great. Temperature so comfortable. But yea. That travel is a pain.
Travelling is overrated. I have many similar frustrating experiences that always cost me money. Im going to find a place or region I like and stay there. Usually, there’s enough to see and do locally to keep a guy happy and preoccupied for a good while.
I’m a glutton for punishment. I will probably keep going
Greeny, try flying business by using your CC points. Even premium economy is much better than economy. I fly Cathay Pacific, the customer service is pretty good. The trend these days is to reduce call centers and use the chat box…they do work, you need to be patient though…
Bo from Air Asia sucks 😂
Travel sucks unless you can afford to fly 1st class. I mean 1st class flights, hotels, limo, etc. Other than that, it sucks unless you can go 5 stars.
That’s would be a lot better.
when I started traveling to SE asia back when I was in my 40's, I did made a number of mistakes while booking on airasia. but eventually I got the hang of it booking from them.
Great info!! Yea. Everything US is so overpriced
You are so correct and in the states now they charge extra for regular parking your car and also add on resort fees but don’t disclose when u booked them and the list goes on and on ,at are age thinking max 6 hour drive to my destination or stay home, oh also all the people who cut in line when boarding a plane by section etc etc
Such crooks
Greeny great stories. Maybe try NOK Air for flights within Thailand. Service is generally quite good 😎
That’s one that hasn’t let me down yet.
International travel used to be the purview of the wealthy; now Joe Six Pack can travel the world. In my personal experience, rude ,self absorbed travelers do make the experience less enjoyable. I totally get where Greeny is coming from :)
Too many of them now.
Your looking fitter Greens. Keep up the good work.
Thank you. Trying to keep off the weight
Greeny sounds like Neal page from planes, trains and automobiles.
😂
Thailand is the winner hands down. Pretty sure I have reached a similar pinnacle; all the best of everything is in thailand anyway. Stick to travel for work and family reasons only
Not a bad way to go
I can say travel to thailand and fili are not worth it because both places are not performing by choice according to what they can fairly. Both destinations are bearable rather than pleasureable compared to 5 years ago
Some things have gotten better. So e things far worse
Virgin airlines pulled the middle name charge scam on me, when I checked in at a US airport. It was more of a rude judgement call from the attendant at the check in desk than a Virgin policy. I now check my tickets against travel documents to ensure they match exactly before going to the airport.
Me too. But it’s so ticky tacky. Anything to make a buck
I feel you brother
Thx
Life… you can find the negatives and highlight those or find the positives and highlight those, Sabai Sabai your retired and chilling 🌴
I wish that was my nature. There are many more positives. I just don’t like being screwed over.
Was was there 2 years ago. So many crazies running around. They need to clean it up there
@GreenyTravels Agreed.
I just had a few days to waste instead of staying in BKK. Really no time for a road trip to Chiang Rai. Home now. Time for a staycation
Yep; do more roadtrips Greeny!! Ride a bus; a train, etc. Cheap and can’t get effed up. Just watch the scenery roll by.
Greeny walking
lol I loved this video. I’ve had all those frustrations and the refund battles are such a pain in the hoop. And don’t get me started on smelly people. Do they know or not know? Disgusting
They know but are just nasty and don’t care
Artificial Ignorance Chat torture…. Or Artificial irritation chat torture popular in Asis airlines apps
I enjoyed this vid so much...
I appreciate it!!
All the travel industry executives are living high on the hog while the poorly paid and trained ground level staff try to run things.
Also when it rains it pours.
Very hard to talk to someone in charge with the. All people that have no authority
I’m the same. I’m over it too
Got so old
You're not wrong.
These days air travel is a pain in the arse.
It's not the actual flight, even though that can be unbearable next to someone who stinks, but it's the airports which gives me the shits .
It's a cattle call
Not worth it.
So frustrating!!
Harder to find good prices ❤
Nothing easy now
Yup, because of this I'm not traveling nearly as much.
I’m ready to barricade myself in my condo
I'd just try to be happy. If you can live your life by that one rule and stick to it...things kind of take care of themselves.
Yep. True
Sorry to hear. I will piss out as hell also.
Hard not to be
Greeny needs his coffee and donuts.😊 sorry just joking. My worst was I got stuck in St. Louis once for 11.5 hours they kept lying about when the plane was coming.
I need something 😂
As a Brit, there are very few Americans i find funny but you should be a stand up comedian.
This had me laughing out loud and Greeny Rants could be a new direction for this channel or maybe start a second channel and just moan about everyday life and the state of the corporate world, it would be a smash hit, id subscribe, i need a laugh! 👍☺️🥳
Thank you. People usually like my rants more than travel videos anyway. 😂
@GreenyTravels They are magnificent I must say! I feel a Netflix special coming on... 🤔🤔🤣🤣👍
Life has become so complicated these days... I hope my next life in Pattaya isn't as complicated.
Hopefully!!
Sounds like you have some good ideas there. Soon I may need a break from Asia. Thinking E Europe
I need new headphones and nose plugs
Only use American Express, they will typically fight on your behalf. Otherwise, there is almost no recourse with these boot-leg travel /airlines issuing credits....
Travel isn't what it's cracked up to be......haven't seen u in Bang Saray yet 😮
I have AE. It’s delta and they have been really getting tight with points. The whole industry going to hell. On a side note I have Delta and United stock I bought during Covid that up good
Brilliant Greeny.
lol. Thx.
Greeny these issues you’re having are symptomatic of early retirement. Travel and TH-cam vlogging have become work. And with work comes stress and aggravation. I think you should still travel to Bali so you can report back to us your findings. It’ll be a working holiday because you’re not really retired.
I will probably never be really retired then. I am retired from working for the man now though. That’s all that matters
That's a bad string of travel hassles. Maybe you have to go to the temple and do offerings before your next trip!
lol. I I definitely got my fill of temples this week in Chiang Rai
That’s pretty smart Scott. Dealing with these airlines is a mess
You need to chill,Thailand is fraught with nonsensical obstacles. If you let them bother you, you'll be one of the miserable old man expats. I gotta tell you, my Italian temper has been a problem for me most of my life, I'm learning. Sabi sabi
lol. I know. Need to chill but that really pissed me off yesterday.
Yea. Where’s my jetsons space car
It cost a bit more but it best to use a travel agent and pay the travel agent in cash.
I’ve heard plenty of horror stories about travel agencies. There is no winning
I’ve heard plenty of horror stories about travel agencies. There is no winning
It’s all panned that way. Take your money but make it difficult to get it back
Grumpy Travels
lol. That may be the one!!
Flying does suck
I used to enjoy it. Now they get me so pissed before I even get on the plane it ruins the whole mood
Bro it’s been over a year and I’m still waiting for my air Asia refund better off going and disputing the charge
Yea. Might
Permission to speak freely your honour- that’s when we know the swearing is coming…love it…good on ya Greenie…
lol. New channel. Greeny the potty mouth
Dude, travel may have passed u by. Happens to everyone at some stage.
I like the destinations just not the transport. We will see. Maybe next year will be better 😂
Not to defend them, but isn't it a result of cutthroat competition and demand for lower and lower fares ?
No. Cause they are in the business to nickle and dime us to death
your new moniker: Grumpy Greeny :]
lol. Thats always the case
looks like you lost some weight Greeny. lookin good!
Wow. People keep saying. I better get on the scale and check. Maybe I got the Hiv
Do you ever notice that every mistake these impersonal corporations make is always in their favor.
Definitely set up this way.
traveling is the best in life,i never stress and always make good time when i go.the worst is lak of money.
NO one stole $2700 from you lol
I do not like to travel but I go back to the USA about every 3 years. I have never had any trouble. I am 82 and so I may not go back to the USA ever again.
Yea. Thats a long trip. I’m 58 and the last few were tough.
