I started a handyman business and I help people too. Not the best way to make money, but at the end of the day. That's your business, you run it how you want. Money doesn't buy the feeling you get helping someone who can use it. Keep it up "No Fear"

@coreyfranco7060 😆 taking work from other tradesmen? You gotta be kidding right? I think all handyman need to get paid more for knowing how to repair everything.
You probably waisted 4 years of your life is why you are upset. I do believe you should try to look inward before you project your frustrations out on other. Bless you.

Man I love this video bro! It seems like everybody on TH-cam is trying to see who can charge the most, forgetting that you can't build relationships that way. We all have to charge what we have to charge to make it worth being in business but we don't have to be cutthroat with every customer, regardless of who they are. Congrats on the channel growth, you earned it.

Labour (that’s how we spell it in Canada) is expensive. If you can’t or won’t do a job yourself, then you have to be prepared to pay someone to do it. And it’s expensive to operate a business and even break even let alone profit. You’re not greedy/spoiled for wanting to make ends meet and do right by your business. Proud of you for looking out for people who are down on their luck, but remember you have to make ends meet too. You can’t be there to help if you can’t stay afloat. Wishing you the best and hope things pick up soon.

Like u bud. Keep it up! It’s simple. People get annoyed when products/services raise prices when demand is high and say “that’s the market”. But when demand goes down, products services the refuse to lower prices. It’s like home owners and home values - accept the increase, refuse the decrease. It’s how it is - keep crushing it bud.

    - Painting a cinder block wall
    - tearing up a concrete walkway and adding pavers
    - Landscaping, including pruning trees
    - fixing our shower door
    - Patching/panting internal walls
    - Glazing a bathtub
    - Installing light fixtures

I just got a tree guy down from $3k to $1400. The problem is too many people just pay the first price they hear and make it hard for the rest of society. Don't be afraid to say no, you'd be surprised how much profit margins contractors of all types have. There are so many companies out there, don't feel pressured to jump at the first GC who comes to your house.

I am glad that you can make some money with this. Since the age of 13 my single mom told me, I am the only male with 3 sisters, so whenever she needed a handy man she said " watch Carefully because next time I want you to do it." Now I can do plumping, drywall, basic carpentry, fix most car issues short of a trans or engine rebuilds, do house electrical and even fix consumers electronics like TV, audio etc. So unless you are a NASA engineer I can do or at least understand everything that you are doing, therefore, I do complain when some one wants a months pay for 8 hours worth of work.

Gas is $5 a gallon, it costs me $5-$10 to visit a customer. Lowering prices is not going to get you more business. Well, during the pandemic people were given a lot of extra money to help keep the economy afloat. Demand for home projects was high and supply for products were low, which shot the price up. However, now with inflation and supply back to almost normal many trades want to keep there prices high. Well that will only last for so long for those working in residential.

Have you considered using your gi bill to supplement your income while there is a slump in the economy? You could go part time towards your associates and still do your handyman job during the day. I say supplement because you will effectively be paid a stipend to attend. It can help to offset your living expenses while you get a degree. I imagine you could also use it towards gaining certifications that could boost your income.

Man charge what you’re gonna charge. I’ve been burned by enough contractors to not care so much about the price but the quality. Nothings worse than having to pay repay another contractor to redo something someone else didn’t do right and won’t come back to fix .

I called a contractor to get an estimate for a hardwood floor installation of 1,100 sq ft. I told him I was a retired contractor and owned all the tools I would need to install the floor but would pay a reasonable price for installation. His bid was not reasonable at $25 a sq ft. I purchaced the material 3 1/4 x 3/4 Maple and installed the floor myself at 69 years old. My total cost for material $6.50 per sq ft.

friend, nothing personal but that's a red flag in my line of business when customers call and tell me they're pros but don't have the time or don't want to do the job themselves. Most contractors will avoid you, just not worth the headache. If you are a retired contractor, you know exactly what I'm talking about. I have only been doing this for a few years and learned this the hard way.

    • @StevenAbbott
      @StevenAbbott 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yes, but I am proud that I now have beautiful new hardwood floors, and did it myself. I was willing to pay $15 an sq ft $25 no way.

Although I am on SSI, I have liquid assets and, was in need of a few simple repairs to the exterior of my home. I called every handymen in my area to quote me on one repair that would require less than $100 in materials with 2 hour labor. After being quoted close to $1000, my neighbor did the work for materials cost! This experience brought me to a whole new level of hiring. If I could not trust someone to make a simple repair/quote then, why would I hire them to make it worth their time. I ended up hiring a top notch contractor to do my repairs as well as upgrades. I will use this contractor for interior upgrades! Everyone needs to eat so why do handymen believe they're the only contractors in town?

No. That is not Karma. When Karma comes around it takes you all the way down. That negative energy affects only people who intentionally do evil things to others. Charging a premium for your services is not evil, its just a way of marketing your skills. Its up to consumers to decide if they want to hire you or not. But don't laugh at people if they turn you down. Offer them a fair price WITHOUT diminishing yourself financially.. That's all.

Phoenix, that explains it. Just like during the GFC, Phoenix is again ground zero for bubble mania. When the music stops playing, Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Florida and parts of CA are the worst hit. This time isn't so bad, but more of CA is in the mix this time for decline. It's not the economy (broadly), as that's still good, it's the hot spot economies.

    Create a different business model.
Email your clients. You know its tough. Ive created more ootions to better help you.
    Some ideas:
Barter for payment. Fuel, paint, tools materials etc.
Focus on emergencies. No extra charges for Weekends or nights.
Payment for labour in installments. Option for trust worthy people.

Allen, you may want to consider creating a 403B non-profit company to do your "charity" work. Talk to your accountant and a local lawyer about setting this up. You may be able to accept donations or donate some of your pre-tax income from your Handyman business to the non-profit. This way you can do charity work and not lose out on your profitable business.
