From Censorship in the Sciences: Interdisciplinary Perspectives conference at the University of Southern California, Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences.
As someone in their last year of a sociology PhD, thank you so much for this work. I love my field and would love it more if it wasn’t infected with illiberalism. Most social scientists I think are still doing good work, but the censorship and hostile environment to thought diversity is insane, even though it’s driven by a minority of scholars who “don’t believe in truth,” as Greg stated.
Problems of Comfort, I like this characterization. Thanks for publishing all these lectures for free
I always enjoy listening to GL talk. Very insightful and principled.
The formula is simple. You see Greg Lukianoff. You click.
For a look at how the lack of viewpoint diversity has adversely affected knowledge production in several research areas, I recommend _Ideological and Political Bias in Psychology_ (2023).
Interesting, thanks!
I’m not surprised that Florida State University ranks higher on free speech because when I was a grad student there in 2005-2006, the Student Union hosted a speaker series where Sarah Weddington (attorney for Roe in Roe v. Wade) spoke one night and Ann Coulter spoke the next night.
Great talk. Everything right on the nose.
I would love to hear Greg's position on how far should a democratically elected government go in protecting the country. For example, can the government stop protesters who chant "death to America? Is it a figure of speech or is it incitement of violence?
Greg the GOAT
Is he virile?🥒
This is the 2nd most influential TED talk since "The moral roots of liberals and conservatives"

I recently saw some research that shows men and women faculty prioritize what is most important in higher education differently. Faculty who are men rank the search for knowledge, academic freedom, and freedom of speech as the top priorities, whereas faculty who are women tend to rank these below goals like social justice, safe spaces and DEI objectives. If this is true, I am wondering if the increasing number women on the faculty--which I believe now exceeds the number of men---is partially responsible for the rising number of attacks on freedom of speech and academic freedom since 2000.
I see the correlation. It's also evident in medical institutions and justice institutions as well. It calls for more study, is it coincidence, merely perceived or something to do with male/female personality traits.
Please can you share this study

A people free to discuss the distribution of steel down the Twin Towers. How much steel was on level 105 compared to level 5 of the North Tower?
How is it not readily available after two decades?
As an academic I don’t care if the average Joe Citizen questions my expertise based on my political views. Because they have no knowledge to judge my expertise in the first place. My political views have no relationship to my expertise in my field.
That's fine if you don't give them a reason to suspect you of bias.
Enjoyed the content but I struggle with how he sucks his teeth so often.
I'll work on it!
@@glukianoff4077 Hahaha, great speech, even if I think academia is past the point of no return based on discussions with my everyday friends.
What about Chris Hedges?
His book titles sound like a lot of provocative crap. What about him?
@@sheilaburrowes9081 He was cancelled for his views way before any of these right leaning people.
