    *Phenomenal portaband. Worth the wait in replacing my stolen previous model **MyBest.Tools** Variable speed, with an adjustable governor, adjustable shoe, and locking articulating forward handle. It's beefy, but feels just incredibly well built and solid, will eat through strut, emt, rigid, all thread, whatever, all day.*

    I love your commentaries Tubalcain! Talking about "absconding" with your wife's Totes, or dirty items having "corruption" or Tommy the "spite" mower, or "lamenting" the loss of an item. Your vocabulary is awesome! It makes me laugh on a tough day. You certainly hit the mark with edu-tainment, always informative and fun. Please keep up the work, it brings joy to people, which is a gift. Thank you.

      I've used it a number of times. You have to be careful because it will turn parts black if left in too long. It also moves them towards a sandblasted look. Usually there are not other good choices and it's still best. I've also used straight vinegar on files with good results. However, if left too long, same result.

    • @jrkorman
      @jrkorman 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CraftedChannel I've noted that if you get the "sandblasted" look its because the ER got all of the rust out of the pits already there.

    It's a shame that interest in foundry videos is low. I have 35 years experience in producing "Shell " cores and

    I have a compressor that had the same problem (just after the warranty expired). When there is pressure in the tank the motor doesn't have enough torque to drive the piston until it reaches operating speed so it just hums for about 10 seconds & then blows the breaker. Everybody told me it has to be the check valve but I could disconnect the line and prove that the check valve was 'checking'. It turned out to be the 'cold start valve' - a little bleeder valve on the output of the cylinder that lets the motor get up to speed before closing. I forget where I got mine, but I notice Amazon has them (searched "air compressor cold start valve").

    Your air Compressor either has a Bad Start Capacitor on the motor, or Bad pressure unloader in the switch thats not releasing the head pressure when the Compressor cycles off - Both are cheap and easy to replace

    • @bcbloc02
      @bcbloc02 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I bought a compressor from Lowes to just leave in one of my barns and it was the same way. It would not start when cycling at pressure. It had no unloader at all, they just expected the motor to have enough grunt to get going under load apparently, of course it was not sized properly to do it. My twice as big old Campbell Hausfield runs great on the same circuit so I know it was just a bad designed compressor. I took it back.

    Spite demolition across the street???😉 Perhaps you sold your hit&miss engines too soon.
    I have used JB Weld and also Devcon powdered steel putty to fill in potting and get a smooth surface. Apply with a stiff putty knife to force it into the books & crannies and then screed off the surface with a stiff plastic edge... My wife's VISA card did the trick for me... It was a win-win situation.

I am wondering about horizontal bandsaws vs. a carbide parting tool on a lathe for stock under 1.5 inches. I have watched your parting videos but you did not talk much nor endorse the carbide insert parting method. I would love to hear your views on carbide insert parting tools such as the accusize 1/2" x 1/2" holder. Thank you again for all you've done.

    It's normal to have garages or basements with a slanted floor, it's for the water getting to the drain or in one determined direction.
    About the Horror Freight compressor not wanting to restart unless empty, there is a pressure release valve that is probably defective, this valve releases the pressure from the compressor's head after a charge cycle, otherwise the piston is still loaded and won't restart due to too much force needed from the motor. A new valve should solve the issue, or, even better if it's under warranty...
    Good work on the crooked guide bar... 😎👍

    Gr8 video as usual. I could listen to you talk for hours! In regards to the bent aluminum shaft (Bubba strikes again!),you obviously were able to straighten it or to straighten it good enough. It occured to me that maybe if you left it clamped in the vice for a longer period of time (over night or even a few days) that the soft metal would take a "set" and spring-back would all but be eliminated. I have very little knowledge of metals or working with them so this may be a really worthless thought. Your saw turned out great and you revived a good piece of equipment. Just don't let Daryl & Daryl Demolition borrow it!

    You might be able to file those trunnions smooth and free up the tilt. OTOH, smoothing therm might make the table prone to slipping and getting off-square unexpectedly. My Deltras had (have - I still have one) a tendency to get off-square if someone (who, me?) leaned on the extended fence rails.

    For the pitting on the flat surface. I would JB Weld and a flat edge piece of plastic or even metal trowel used for drywall work as a squeegee to fill it the pitting holes. After it sets. use some fine wet/dry sand paper to sand it to a smooth flat surface.

    well done and get to the upper wheel slop... make a new pin or bolt ( probably just needs a shoulder bolt in there!)

    Why not put shims in the vice? 1/2" wide on either side opposite of the high spot, one on the high spot peak. This way you could over bend the .020. It looks like you've got it just fine anyway. I can't help but think of ways. You really must tell us what you have against hydraulic presses. I don't remember ever seeing one in your shop. ;-) Table is fine. Unfortunate experience with the HF compressor. I have a little $99 one I bought from them 11 years ago, still running strong. I did have to replace the pressure gauge. Otherwise, it's been a great little compressor. My neighbors think so too since everyone within a 3 mile radius comes to air up their tires! You sure do come up with some fantastic finds! That is going to be a great bandsaw when you finish.

    If you can stand the smell, vinegar works great as a rust stripper and is very cheap. When I remove rust and after thorough cleaning, I treat the surface with Boeshield T-9 so that it can penetrate the pores opened by the vinegar. After that the rust has been killed permanently.
    I was laid up for a while in the past and left my snap-on tool box open in my detached garage for a year or so, the mice had an orgy in there causing rust on the bright chrome plated tools within. Rodent excrement is a most potent and persistent destroyer of mans most precious possessions.
    I now relish the thought of any rodent’s untimely demise!

    Hey there Mr. Pete. Would it be possible to flip the bent aluminum bar upside down so the bent part was inside the machine, I know you will have to drill new holes but just a thought. Great video, been a subscriber for years and always enjoy you videos.

    I find citric acid dissolved in warm water excellent for rust removal. Its cheap and safe to pour down the drain when finished.

      Evapo-Rust is also a very safe product. It too can be disposed down the drain.

    I'm surprised at how well this saw is constructed despite it's faults. I had forgotten that DoAll bandsaws were fabricated steel instead of cast iron construction but, the toolroom was many years ago for me. The absolute best price I have found for bandsaw blades, is on bandsawbladesdirect.com. They are Lenox blades. The only trouble is, they are slow to arrive and they know it. Which is probably, why their prices are so reasonable.

    I wouldnt have wasted the evapo rust. A little whiskey-delta-two-score and a piece of emery paper and that would of been good enough. Its a bandsaw table, not a fine swiss watch.

      @@mrpete222 Roll-In band saw can be used as a normal band saw, or you can set the table to move into the piece you want to cut. They are pretty pricey a new sells for $4500.00. The saw uses a counter weight to move the table. There is a vise mounted on the bed. I really enjoy your channel. You where the shop teacher I wished I could have had. Mine just stayed in his ofifce and smoked cigarettes. Thanks Joe

    Mr. Pete222/Tubalcain, I have a Harbor Freight 21 gallon Central pneumatic air compressor & with mine, It takes a 1/4 air relief valve because the electric motor is to weak so, they allow the 1st many pounds of air to escape to allow the motor to get up to speed with less load=DESIGN FLAW! I am simply wondering if your air compressor needs a new valve Got mine on Ebay

      I use Apple cider vinegar for rust. I think it works great. I have soaked bolts that had heavy rust and they look new. On hardware I coat with OSPHO after. Also a great steel preservative. It will turn the finish black but I like the finish. A light coat of oil and it looks like gun blue. That's what they use on steel aircraft parts so it can't be bad.

    Even after watching Hand Tool Rescue over 2 years on TH-cam use Evap-O-Rust it is still impressive to see how well it works.
    As for getting parts for your saw Mr. Pete you might try to figure out what other saw brand is the twin to yours and then search websites like www.ereplacementparts.com/ for parts for your saw.
    My 14” wood cutting Sears Professional band saw is a lot different from the 15” version you show in the manual. I guess Sears bought from different manufacturers over the years. Not sure how old my saw is though.

    I think Daryl and Daryl are the dudes that 'borrowed' the bandsaw from the prev. owner and wadded up the upper guide & tire.

    • @turnersparadise8368
      @turnersparadise8368 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep. I think the guy that borrowed it probably tried to run a big chunk of wood through it at slow speed and caught the blade which bent the guide, broke the blade and stripped off the tire.
