    Thanks for watching Everyone! What's your favourite Canadian Whisky for 'Mixing'??? Recipe is in the ^^^Description Box^^^.

      I enjoyed mixing cocktails with crown royal northern harvest rye with all hype around that one that came with the the press it got from Jim Murray’s whiskey bible. I am too inexperienced in Canadian whiskey to say how it compares to others tho. I’m more of a bourbon guy mostly.
      I do need a Canadian style whiskey for my cabinet so I would love to hear some other suggestions in the comments.

      A lot of people point towards '40 Creek' as a great brand, also 'Lot 40' (similar names, but unrelated) I was at a tasting recently with Lot 40, Pike Creek, J.P. Wisers, and Gooderham's... each of them had great expressions, but also really bad tasting expressions as well. At the tasting there was no consensus on what was great or bad; so personal taste is a huge factor.

      Thank you for the advice! I am literally picking up some 40 creek right now and will give this cocktail a try! Update: guy from liquor store convinced me to buy lot 40 instead because he swears by it. Can’t wait to try this out this weekend.

      Ok I tried this with:
      Lot 40 whiskey
      Dillon’s DSB bitters
      Costco maple syrup
      Pretty powerful flavours, I really enjoyed it and I think for my taste I will dial down the syrup a bit and try some different bitters for fun

      Glen, you need to buy a bottle of Jack Daniels Single Barrel Rye (47% Alc) so good.

    I APPRECIATE YOUR WORK: not just 'AFTER DARK.' I have ENJOYED NIAGARA PENINSULA WINES! I met them in fine restaurants in Stratford, Ontario and they held their own with my experience of a good many European wines. CUT TO THE CHASE: my favorite Canadian Whiskey is Pendleton Rye, a brand I learned about on your channel.

    I used to make these, didn't know it had a name, but I usually make it with Crown Royal. Only me and my Quebecois buddy really enjoyed it. I didn't use bitters or lemon juice though, so I'm really excited to add this cocktail to me repertoire.

    Ah bitters fix everything 😉 I agree I myself tend to add bitters to cocktails that may not even call for them. The real magic is a few grains of non iodine salt. I see you have the similar approach from you cooking background. Thou older recipes may tend to have different profiles for the generation it was created in. I will definitely try this as I like a spoonful of maple syrup in my old fashioned.

    If you ever come across any of the used tiny kegs there like 3 gallon keg use them to age your maple syrup you want to put a little whiskey in it to you and make sure there's still some whiskey in it

  • @retrofuturistic8
    @retrofuturistic8 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've seen a few whiskey sour recipes that include bitters, so this one, to me, seems like it's just a whiskey sour with maple syrup subbing for the simple syrup. I love maple syrup so that sounds like a clever upgrade to me.

    • @Cognitive.Dissident
      @Cognitive.Dissident 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That whiskey is on the low end of sweetness when it comes to maple liquor products. Really good as a digestif or on vanilla ice cream

    • @stephane.foisy.186
      @stephane.foisy.186 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a good blend. Make a sour without any additional syrup. Or an old fashioned by just adding bitters or with ginger beer 😋 . My favourite is a recipe from a coffee liqueur Crème de la Crème
      Barista
      1.5 oz (45ml) Barista(dark roast coffee liqueur)
      1.5 oz (45ml) Sortilège
      1.5 oz (45ml) 35% whipping/heavy cream
      Whip shake cream to top

    In more modern times, a "habitant" is essentially a farmer but yes it most likely comes from the old French meaning people who in New France. For the most part, farms in Quebec didn't have big areas that could be farmed even though they farm could be 300 acres but it is very mountainous and woody. They might cut some "pitoune" (wood used for making paper) during the winter, then seed a patch of vegetables, Have a field of oats, some fields of hay. They use to have animals, i.e. cows, horses, pigs and the likes.

    You should have tired the Wisers Yvan Cournoyer whiskey. It would have fit the theme of the drink more than the 99.

      Since I have to buy all of this stuff myself... and none of these cocktail videos make enough to even cover the cost of turning the lights on; I haven't got the cash to take a chance on taht one.

  • @techstormster
    @techstormster 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did not know that's what the French Canadians called their pioneers. Learned something new. Sounds like a great cocktail I could try with the sealed bottle of Canadian Club I found in the Pantry from the 1960's. Unless that's worth something... Is it?

    • @YsabelGamache
      @YsabelGamache 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      techstormster I wouldn’t say we call them “habitant” anymore. The term is now more pejorative than it was. Now it is someone usually from a backwater countryside that is very old fashion in his mindset... or just someone that is from out of Montreal or Quebec that acts or talk nonsense. The original meaning is just someone that lives somewhere.

    I have yet to find a Canadian whiskey that is drinkable straight up. They make great mixed drinks 🍸 but that's it. Kentucky bourbon is the only whiskey to drink straight. And I'll let you know upfront I think scotch whisky is horrible. Who wants to drink dirt flavored alcohol
