Congrats on acquiring a DD-7. Probably you know, the tapeheads forum has many advices and what-to-do steps to repair and restore a DD-7. I look forward to watching your DD-7 restoration video, you are very good at this. Cheers.
I am looking forward to the repair sessions on the JVC DD-7. I purchased a DD-5 from eBay and was totally shocked to receive a DD-7! It quit working after 3 months. I was able to get it professionally repaired and it is fantastic! The DD-9s are too much for a Dolby NR deck and I prefer SuperANRS when recording. I did have a KD-A77 that died and I removed the 3-head setup back-up for my DD-7. I am interested in another DD-7 or a DD-5.
Score! The DD-7 is going to be a 2025 project, but the DD-99 should be on the channel before too long. Maybe late October or early November. It's the same transport as the DD-7. I believe the DD-10 was their flagship with Dolby, and the DD-9 still had the ANRS stuff. Could be wrong about that. I'm looking forward to trying super ANRS myself.
I be careful some Japanese tape decks are 100v 50Hz & US & Canada is 60Hz but they can tolerate 120v voltage. Maxell XL II-S are excellent tapes as I use to use them.
The CDing 2 tapes aren't chrome. They're a cobalt doped ferric set to run at 70 microseconds. You probably knew that already. Congrats on the JVC deck. 😎👍
I've had a pair of Etymotic Studio references for 3 years now. Like yours, they are my 'best' earphones, only ever had to replace the cables. Looking for a new pair of cans, and I too being nearly 57 have treble roll off with my ears. So, looking forward to the review of the Beyers. Never considered buying NOS blanks directly from Japan, will have to consider that too.
I hadn't really planned to do a review of them, but I do have them now. They are exactly what I was hoping they would be. I got the 32 ohm versions because they need to work with the Steinberg UR22 with no amp, and I've never heard a better set of headphones. They've already forced me to re-rank my best decks because I can now tell the difference between them much better. Only my A&D machine got to keep its spot at the top.
I like that photo at the end, nicely done. I've thrown away two pairs of Koss monitors just this year. Sound was accurate, build quality was garbage. Never again for me.

I guess you already figured it, but the 74 minute tapes were made to match the maximum typical length of a CD.
I love JVC. Well made and last.
150 minute audio cassettes? Unbelievable!
TDK did make up to 180 minute tapes...

I keep buying multitrack recorders and reel to reel, it's a addiction. Use a 120 t0 200 volt transformer if it's 100 volts from japan.
