    This recipe never failed! Easy and clear instruction! I followed through the entirely recipe and successfully made the first time! It’s soft inside and crunchy outside! It was perfect to go with HK style milk tea! When I can’t fly home and this is the best way to pamper my home sick!

    I've followed this recipe twice, and it makes the most perfect buns. The only thing that needs to be amended is the amount of water roux. The recipe only calls for 184g of the roux mixture to be used when you make the dough, but the amount you originally make is closer to 235-240g, so you end up wasting quite a bit of it.
    Also, it's worth mentioning that this recipe makes *15* buns, not 14. If you divide all of your dough into 75g pieces like the video shows, you get 15 pieces.

The pineapple buns remind me of my childhood...my father would give us kids money to go to the store to pick up these buns ( and cocktail buns) as afternoon snacks!     I just made these and they were successful. I didn’t think it would turn out to be successful as my dough was sticky. However I kept adding a little flour until it was smoother. Surprisingly it worked. Very impressed! Thanks for sharing.

      Annalisa Yan i kneaded for a long time since im not strong, you will get there eventually, tip would be add some flour so it is easier to knead to get it to the consistency in the vid!

    Success upon first try. I tweaked a few things myself, still came out great. The recipe calls for the very common ingredients, no custard powder, no lard. I have always thought the top crust is difficult to make well, my result is really better than expected. Wish that I can post a photo, it really look legit and taste great. 菠蘿油 is best out of the oven.

      Iris K For my first time trying, I used all purpose flour (no bread flour at home), hand mixed and kneaded, still came out great. I say it’s more key to make sure yeast works, so that your dough rise enough. And for the top crust, use butter, not margarine or alternatives, needed to hold its shape for a time. Melting too fast would be hard to handle during the roll, and not as pretty during baking. I also used egg wash as a glue to the bun and top crust.

    Thanks for sharing. I tried it today, it tastes really good, buns are soft and toppings are crispy but a little bit bitter after taste. I gonna try again with baking powder this weekend. 😋😋

    I made these just and the buns turned out so buttery sweet and fluffy. I didnt have heavy cream on hand so i subsituted with cream cheese instead (like 60g) and turned out just like the shops.
    I did have trouble making the topping as it tasted bitter in the end and it was too runny to handle. Might be the really warm weather but even after putting them in the fridge it was looser than yours. Any advice?
    Also could the dough recipe be used for the hot dog baos and similar ones?

      The bread dough is good for hot dog bun too. For the topping, add a little more sugar and be sure to refrigerate it until firm.

    Tried the recipe.... the bread part was light and fluffy but the topping was not sweet enough. Also would recommend putting in half the salt listed... bread was a bit salty too... but bread fluffiness was awesome!

    I made today by using half of the ingredients, can make 8 big one,i only use 2g yeast, use yogurt instead of heavy cream,came out very fluffy thanks for the recipe!

    If I want to cut the recipe it half, would the amount of yeast (14g), be (7g)? Cause I noticed in some recipes, the amount of yeast would be different. For example, one loaf of bread uses 4g of yeast but two loaves of bread uses 7g. And can I still make this though I do not have a bread machine?

    I can only fit 8 buns in the oven at a time. how can I avoid the remaining buns from over proofing?!?!?

      After you divide the dough into 14 pcs. You can shape eight small dough balls first, put them on the baking pan, let them rise first. Now you would have time to work on the other ones while proofing the first eight buns.

    My suggestion for this recipe is add a little more sugar to the crust, I found it to be a little on the bland side. Also the bread was unusually salty, so I would cut down on the salt a little. Other than that recipe was fantastic!

      You can knead dough by hands, it is just more tiring! Please knead dough for 10 minutes.

    I understand KA machines should only use up to speed 2 for kneading. Is it ok to use speed 4 after putting in the butter? And also, when you first start to knead after putting all the ingredients inside the bowl, do you use speed 1 or 2?

      I successfully made half portion today 👍👍 Only two questions - when second proofing, can i use a deep pan instead of baking tray? Coz the dough rises up to the cling wrap and like cannot rise anymore. Also, the pineapple topping is a bit soft even after the 15 mins refrigerate. Can i refrigerate longer?

      I followed the recipe to the letter. When I weighed roux, I had more than was required. I’m not sure, but it could be why your dough was too sticky

    After cooking the water roux dough like gel, the weight of the water roux dough is about 210g, should I follow your recipe 184g or use up all 210g?

    Shouldn't use bread flour for the topping, should use just ordinary flour (cake flour ) , right?
