    Thanks for these English-language videos! I'm a foreigner living in Japan but I just started learning Japanese, so finding English-language videos about life in Japan from non-foreigners is kindof tricky. I appreciate the insights of people who have actually lived in Japan long term.

    My brother has a 2-wheel "long john" cargo bike with an alloy frame, electric assist, an internal gearbox, hydraulic disc brakes, and Gates belt drive.
    Before the electric cargo bike he had a regular hybrid, which he had to attend to daily and forced him back into his car regularly. E-bikes really do enable more than just ease of peddling, they can make a non-cyclist cycle, which is good for everyone.
    By the way, "pottering", is British English for just going out and about, either aimlessly or with a leisurely task. One of my favourite words, it's pronounced "pot-er-ing".

    • @TwoWheelCruise
      @TwoWheelCruise  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That sounds like a beast of a bike! It is great that they can help to get more people out on bikes.
      The pronunciation in Japanese is po-ta-rin-gu haha

    Both kinds of seats are very common in the Netherlands. I'm not a parent, but it looks pretty safe. Never seen any crashes like that, after all, these are commuter bikes. I really like it when I see the parent and kid having a nice conversation of all the stuff they are passing by while they are on the bike. Seems so intimate and great parent-kid bonding time. I wish I had this in my childhood (not from here)

    That Panasonic e-bike is bizarre (yet cool). It has a child seat and a front rack, but also has BMX bars and dirt tyres. The bars are Subrosa which is one of the top BMX brands.
    I think pottering around is to do something in a relaxed way. It’s quite old school British English though. Not commonly used these days.

    Really appreciate the bike shop tours you do, they help those of us who aren't able to get out there right now get an idea of what's available and other situations to keep an eye open for once we are able to. Personally, the name Specialized always weirds me out because in the USA that's what many services refer to disabled persons as, bus passes for those with special needs are labeled ''Specialized'', for example. I know, it's a trivial thing that only a 14 year old brain would worry about but, hey, I'm a lifeless nobody that doesn't deserve to even exist. Sue me.

    I bought an 8d townie go electra bicycle from Motovelo daikanyama in Tokyo last year. Motovelo has hard to find ebikes that are of foreign design that somehow got past the Japan ebike regulations and are able to be legally sold here in Japan. The Townie go is a cruiser style bicycle and is actually comfortable, unlike 99.9% of bicycles sold in Japan. I further modified it with a harley davidson style monkey handlebar, spongy wonder seat and a redshock suspension seat post and veltop for extra comfort. I can cruise around the city in comfort without the parking restrictions of a motorcycle, and its more fun and more comfortable to ride than a motorcycle too.

    • @TwoWheelCruise

      Sounds like an awesome setup! They certainly had a nice lineup of unique ebikes.

    Hi guys, first time to comment. Have you figured out where your next country is? I've heard that for Panama, visa-free stay will only be 90 days starting Oct 1. In Asia, only Bali/ Indonesia & Thailand are open for tourists. For Bali, you can get a business visa for 6 months (but it's quite pricey). I think Malaysia & SG allow certain countries but don't know if Japan is included in their lists. Taiwan is also possible, if you can get a teaching job there. You can also teach English online from TH or Bali. I also think Thuong will have less culture shock if in Asia (aside from language differences). Check out Ralph Clesca's vlog - they transferred to Bali from VN. Btw, Thuong looks great in a dress. Good luck in all your future ventures! 😊👍🏼🇵🇭

    • @TwoWheelCruise
      @TwoWheelCruise  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! We're not sure yet, but first stop will likely be Thailand. Panama already reduced visa free to 90 days for Vietnamese earlier, but we'd like to stay in Asia if possible. Bali business visa is currently closed, but if they bring that back we'll likely go there first.

  • @ecm86
    @ecm86 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    BESV he's a newer ebike brand out of Taiwan that's been around since 2013 but I've seen them popping up more and more since 2018. I've seen their "Lena CF1" model in the wild once or twice.
    They're still pretty scarce though. At least in around where I live in New Taipei City. They're probably around in abundance across the bridge in Taipei which is where I seen one before. They are still quite expensive for most e-bike shoppers here since most of them are older people or Southeast Asians for the majority.
    Many e-bikes that are more like e-scooters here are popular and go for less and have more range. But I can see the appeal to the 20-40 crowd who want something that stands out and really care to invest in a quality/stylish bicycle.
    I personally think it's got its market figured out and does well. Their fresh designs and increasingly better prices with the new Voltani model shows promise.

    How are you guys doing with offline storage for your videos? The cost of external hard drives has gone up by about 50% here in the U.S. Personally, I’m waiting for Black Friday as the prices seem to be on a downward trend (finally). Most of my videos are for show and tell so I can crunch them by 50% using Handbrake with minimal loss in quality.

    One thing I'm realizing has been consistent through these shop tours is a lack of cargo bikes, like the Yuba, Urban Arrow, Ferla, etc. It's kind of curious how Japan as so many shopping, family, utility-comfort Mama-Charis, but hasn't embraced the Bakfiets. Arguably slapping a big bucket on the front of a tricycle would serve the multi-purpose use of grocery runs and hauling young kids around better. Is it about the space concern? Maybe Japanese city-dwellers not want to inconvenience anyone around them with a big cargo bike?

    • @barbrasosi
      @barbrasosi 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My impression is that Bakfiets are really good for urban alleys but are only popular because in NL there are places you can't access/inconvenient by cars or parking is a hassle. If there is no difference in access & parking, people might prefer to just use cars to carry their cargo instead.

    • @TwoWheelCruise
      @TwoWheelCruise  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cargo bikes haven't really taken off in Japan yet. I think one of the big reasons is lack of parking space and also Japanese people are so used to mamachari bikes being the standard.
