This is probably the best video online about how to make side seam pockets, short, clear and easy to follow. One suggestion would be that if you are ever thinking of re-making this video, to perhaps use fabric that clearly has a right and wrong side, as in a print fabric. Understanding how to get the right sides INSIDE the pocket can be tricky for a newbie.
Best, easiest to clearly understand tutorial on putting in pockets. Their inside/outside nature makes my brain feel pretzeled when I try to imagine them!
I have read and reread my pattern on how to put the pockets into a pair of kids' pants and this video saved me. very clear and easy to understand. By far the easiest sewing video that I have seen yet. Thank you so much
I did this today for the first ever pocket I sewed into my first ever me-made dress (the pattern doesn't include pockets, sacrilegious!), and it worked like a charm! The instructions were so easy to follow and the result looks great. Thanks a lot for making this video!
I agree that was the best and easiest and clearly understandable description of how to put in a pocket! I made a pair of pants today, a prototype for something I'm making, and I've done it before. I couldn't figure out how to do it! And finally I just left the pockets off. I should have come to you first! Now I know when I make the actual pants what to do! Thank you so much, great video!
I return to this video time and time again. The most clearly stated tutorial I have seen on this topic. Thank you! Pura Vida from Costa Rica Central America
This video was a revelation! I can not tell you how much I have over-thought this process, and how needlessly complex my technique was! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
This is my go-to video whenever I set pockets into my pants. Straight forward and to the point, clear as a bell without a lot of talky talky, and the camera angle is just perfect. Thanks!
Thank you for the clear and understandable instructions. I love it when I find someone like you that can explain something with out all the needless chatter. I will l be following you for sure.
Very concise and clear tutorial. I now get how to “pocket”. I like how you get straight to the point. Have subbed and looking forward to watching more of your tutes. Thanks.
Thank you, really helpful, though the dark fabric, and same appearence on both sides, got me a bit confused, and I couldn't see the top stitching, so still not sure whether it shows from outside or not? Very helpful on technique though.
Lots of videos out there as to how to sew in pockets to the side seams and yours was the easiest and least complicated one to follow. Thank you for putting this tutorial up there is was a great help to me. One look and with your simple explanation, I got it and quickly put the pockets into my just-bought palazzo pants that, sadly, had none in them. Now, I'm a happy customer thanks to you!
Yay! You helped me overcome my fear, and I just finished adding pockets to a muumuu I'm making. Excellent, easy to follow tutorial with no unnecessary fluff! MUCH appreciated
Very useful, thank you. I’m making a dress with pockets and wasn’t sure whether to attach the pockets with the same seam allowance as usual. Now I know!
Excellent tutorial thank you. Very to the point, I love it. Could you please explain how best to finish off the raw edges of the pocket, and is it best done before or after you’ve sewn in the pockets? Many thanks again xx
An overcast stitch or pinking shears are probably the easiest ways. Depending on the pocket shape, you could also bind all the seam allowances. It really depends on the project and how fancy you want to get!
Thank you for this so much. I have an independent pattern that was basically telling me the sam thing but it just didn’t make sense in the written directions.
Does this also work if you want to cut in at the front? So I'm thinking the back half of the pocket bag should show right side of fabric. The front half of the pocket bag and the front of the trousers would be sloped in slightly towards the centre. Will the method still work?
@@TheAwlNighter1 I tend to be busy making things for others and make nothing for myself. That’s why I started watching videos pertaining to making clothes. So why not practice on some pajama bottoms for somebody else first ha ha. But my mother desperately needs ones that fit she’s lost so much weight as she is getting older and it’s dangerous having some of these clothes almost falling off of her A decent pair of pajama bottoms off of Amazon in Canada is $20. I could make a pair for less plus mailing
I finally found some adorable fabric I’m going to practice making some pajama shorts for me first and use your method to do pockets because your method is so much better than what else I’ve been looking at
Hello i love how easy the pocket is to sew using your technique but... Do i need to overlock the raw edges first? I usually work with cotton and other easily frayed fabrics...
You can you serger if you like, but there are a ton of ways to finish your raw edges. You can bind the edges, use pinking shears, zigzag the edges, or if your sewing machine has an overlock stitch you can give that a try.

Great reminder of how to- but delighted with your demo of adding the 'extra' stitching to retain the pocket inside! Well done!
I love how you got right to the point of the video. That's awesome.
Thank you for the tutorial
Finally a pocket video without the bla blabla. This was simpler than some of the videos that almost had me throw my laptop out the window. Amazing!
You are an excellent teacher. Thanks for making this easy to understand video.

Literally why can’t anyone else explain is so simply. Amazing, thank you. How would you go about adding a zip to this?
Thank you. Have been frazzled for hours trying to figure out and getting it wrong. Have followed your instructions and pockets are now sewn correctly.
Exactly my situation, thank you so much.

Yay! Thank you so much
Woah woah, you can’t be giving out letter grades if you’re not a teacher

My God you made that look so easy.

Hey girl how are you? Good timing I’m going to be making some pajama bottoms for my elderly mother and she loves pockets
I'm great! You're a saint making clothes for someone else. I'm so selfish with my sewing hahaaa

This is an amazing tutorial
Hey I don't know if you would reply, but in the beginning do I have to put on the good side or the bad?
Very clear explanation, just what I wanted! Thank you 😊
I went to a sewing class last night and she told us the wrong way to put in the pockets. I had to watch this video to know how to fix them. Thanks.
Oh no! I'm glad you were able to save your project. Glad I could help :)
Your videos are really helpful! Thanks a lot and please keep making more😊❤️✨
Thank you so much :)
That was great and very easy to follow Thanks
Great show🤗🥰
Will this work for a reversible vest on the lining portion?
Yes, it should on most vests. I would definitely add the pockets to the lining before sewing the lining to the main fabric, though.
How long does it take to sew this? Could anyone give an approx time?
Best tutorial thank you
should we trim the seam allowance of the pocket away?
I wouldn't unless you have alot extra. I typically keep my seams around a 1/2".
@@TheAwlNighter1 yea my seam allowance is just 1/2 in for this pattern too. Thank you!
If i want to sew a zip in this kind of poket .. how can i do it please show me .. thnx
