Another fun video! I feel like I'm learning a bunch of tips and tricks watching your searches (plus it makes me feel better that it takes a bit to hone down the search to really find what you're looking for- that checks with my experience). As an avid Ravelry user it is super helpful. You are soooo right about the rabbit hole that Ravelry can turn into- but there isn't a better resource for finding patterns. The new yarn is gorgeous- can't wait to see what you do with it- and I'm really looking forward to seeing that beautiful blanket finished!
Another TH-camr I follow does what she calls swatch lab where she shows a variety of stitches, lace and cables with a yarn to see what works and what doesn’t. I’d love to see something like that with this yarn!
I have the Frankie pattern-maybe will get around to knitting it this winter. Norskein Knitting Supply has the sweater pattern for Rauna you’re looking for-6 patterns in the book. It’s really pretty
I crocheted a really cute snowman for a friend. The pattern was only in German. I printed the pattern out and ended up using Google translate with my phone. I translated the whole pattern. It was a little bit of work but totally worth it.😊
I learn so much about Ravelry from you.....I am so thankful!! Love the roulette vids!!!!! Would love to see a roulette and then you make...a small project of course. I think it was your last video where you went rabbit hile...oh my goodness!!! I stalked her website...absolutely beautiful Ty ty ty

I love your video :) I’m knitting my first bulky weight garment right now, a winter leagues pullover! I love the sweatshirt vibe, and how fast it’s working up. My husband even saw me working on it and said…oh, I love how big those stitches are, I would like one like that! 🎉
I would recommend the Winter League Pullover. I did the Autumn League Pullover (same pattern, but with DK yarn). My favorite sweater I have made so far. I ended up using Berocco Ultra Alpaca Light and it is a very light and airy sweater.
I have knitted 2 autumn league pullovers now in King Cole Simply Denim dk. Absolutely love them. I adjusted the size to use 4mm as I preferred the fabric. Great summer/autumn pieces. I want to knit the winter league pullover soon.
Your wool looks very much like Lion Brand Homespun yarn, so searching for projects with that specific yarn would probably yield some good results as well. Obviously, anything you make with that wool would look a little different than other projects because of the unique texture. Searching by gauge is a game changer for those of us who spin our own yarn. Thank you!
I have 6 skeins of bulky boucle that Ive been wanting to make a cardigan with. As a crocheter I was concerned I would end up with a super dense hot fabric so your tip about making a swatch so you have a fabric you’re happy with and then looking for patterns to match that is a great idea and something I would’ve never thought about doing
Red is the color of yarn I am using to make my first-ever knitted sweater. I love Red as well and mostly wear black, so I am going out of my comfort zone.
Just looking at it and listening to how you talked about it, it sounds like a coiled yarn. Bouclé does have actual loops that stick out of the core strand if that makes sense. Anyway it's gorgeous and it would be amazing for a lot of the patterns that are going to be in the new 52 Weeks of Chunky Knits by Laine.
You can find Sandnes Garn patterns without having to buy yarn. They are often in booklets in other retailer stores. Franky sweater is one from 2022,I think you can find it for like 9-10 euros but I’m not sure if it’s available in online format.
You can also find free patterns, as well as paid patterns without the yarn, but from retailer stores. They also offer booklets of patterns where this sweater is included. I just don’t know if it has a digital version
The Franky Sweater is from a Sandnes Garn pattern booklet. The book also has those sweaters that were on the Frankly Ravelry page and includes both English and German patterns.
I recently translated from Dutch into English a vest pattern that only came in Dutch. I used Google translate. It took a few minutes, but it was not hard. There were a couple of places where having some knitting experience helped me figure out some phrases that were different, but I’ve almost completed the vest, and I’m very happy with it. I would recommend trying the translation if that’s the pattern you love.
I’ve made 4 of the Winter League sweaters (I have one on the needles right now) and it’s a wonderful pattern and super comfy! One of my faves. The Hue and Me yarn does pill a bit so my latest is being made with worsted weight yarn but still oversized and has the chunky feel!
The Franky genser/sweater is a pattern by Sandnes Design in their pattern book Mykt Til Dame Sandnes 2202 - this was released in 2022 and is a very popular pattern book so tends to be out of stock.. I love their patterns and you're able to get about 10 good patterns per book. You can get them from a stockists like Knitt(UK), Mother knitter, Garntopia, etc - be sure to pick the English/German version. Sandnes Garn normally requires you buy a quantity of the yarn for the book, but you can get a sock quantity or some vendors don't enforce this. If you can get a copy, it's so worth it. They also released that pattern in various sizes in Sandnes Garn 2209 FRANKY ALL SIZE SWEATER book.
I like your Ravelry videos. I always learn a search feature I’d never considered before. Sometimes, the free pattern isn’t a pdf, but just text and photos on a website. I hate that. I often copy, paste and edit (and edit and edit) in Word. I use Google Translate on foreign-language patterns. It is often literal, but with a little imagination, I can figure out what was intended.
The Frankie Sweater is in the pattern book 2202-05. It is in a pattern book they publish and isn't sold as a stand alone. You do have to buy the pattern booklet with Sandnes Garn yarn BUT you don't have to buy sweaters quantity. Titityy from Finland stock them and you may be able to find a local stockist local to you that has them.

The Pekka Sweater is in Rauma Wool Pattern Book 417 'Vams Dames' and is in stock at Wooly Thistle for $22.95
The Niji Pullover is a bulky raglan with two different collar options and some very original details. Curious to see what your gauge will be when you swatch. Ailbiona McLochlainn does some beautiful basics that also have interesting details. Her newsletter gives a pattern discount every week, too.
I love that Billie Zip pattern that you found here 😃 I recommend Ursa pattern. Enjoyed knitting up that sweater in bulky yarn! 🧶 Oksusu sweater is also bulky weight, available in English. Better use yarn without texture tho!
That yarn reminds me very much of my fiddlehead yarn. I have from Pearl Soho that I am making a cozy blanket with right now. Although that yarn is 100% alpaca, it has the very same Super Bowl key texture and look of your yarn.
Oh my GOSH I love that the boucle base is Merino on Merino. I’m used to finding boucle yarn down here in NZ, particularly because I work with a lot of vintage yarns that I find in charity shops, but they are invariably wool wrapped with nylon or (if I’m lucky) cotton. If I found a modern brand down in this part of the world that offered a base like yours, I don’t think I’d be able to contain myself!!
Hi Taylor, I actually have a ton of patterns available in only Norwegian after living in Norway for a year, and I will say as an American that Norwegian patterns can actually be hard to translate as they don't use the same terminology and the patterns are often a little less detailed. I struggle to work through them as someone who speaks the language, and discovered the google translate really struggles to translate the norwegian knitting abreviations. It sucks because the Rauma Garn sweater was super cute! Anyway, that's been my experience, and I figured it was pretty applicable to your question! 36:2436:2636:28
The Audrey Jacket by Coco Amour Knitwear is a great pattern for your Merino Boucle. Im ready to start this pattern with a worsted merino paired with Drops Brushed Alpaca Silk to bring it up to gauge, since I couldn’t find an affordable all wool Boucle. I’m in Southern California, so pullovers are just too warm.
Looking forward to seeing the fabric this yarn creates. I think it could make a nice Chanel type jacket. And with the left over yarn you could knit the Boulevard bag by Lily Kate France.
I avoid bulky yarn because a) I am a bulky woman already and most of my bulk is in my torso, b) I live in a moderate climate (no snow and it rarely gets below 40 deg F, and c) I run hot already. I'm a little surprised that you have a need for a bulky sweater in your climate but, have fun figuring out your project!
Hi, Missus Earl. I knitted an infinity scarf with curly yarn, with a diagonal striped texture. A word of warning, the curliness IS your texture. My scarf is gorgeous, but you cannot see the diagonal pattern I labored over for a year and a half. It became even less noticeable after washing. Mine was acrylic and it got a fuzzy halo, which obscured the rest of the pattern. You can only see it if you are looking for it at an angle. As for hats, I really enjoyed making the Urchin beret with bulky yarn. One version of the hat even uses irregularly weighted yarn and looks so classy.
37:00 I can say that scrolling Ravelry has led to many bouts of cyber sickness. 😅 It's just so easy to click "next" especially when I'm on the hunt for a good pattern.
Wondering if the texture of the yarn might obscure a minimalist knit/purl type textured pattern... Swatching will tell! But if that's the case, perhaps something like Braided Embers (several reddish versions in the projects) or Yeti Pull (maybe doing a larger size if you want more ease) would work. Maybe not what you were looking for specifically, but I think the Bi-Color Snuggle Sweater would look great using two colors of your new yarn.
The knitting Traditions podcast talks about and knits these patterns… what I understand from her is you need to purchase the printed book with the pattern. I love the Frankie too but haven’t been able to find the book it was printed in on sale in Canada yet.
@25:29 for the Franky Sweater pattern I think it's only available in a printed book/magazine? I saw that main image of the model sitting on the stool on the cover of a book/magazine held up during pairswellwithknitting's video titled "What's on My Needles | Fall Knitting Progress" (timestamp 9:24)
I did knit that hood from Rauma for my husband :) And I am thinking to knit one for myself. It doesn´t seem that Rauma translates the patterns to English, but I am quite sure we are enough Norwegians here on your channel to help with the translation ;)
19:58 i'd actually say that this is caused by picking up too few stitches at the neckline. when you pick up a small number of sts around a collar, it causes the purl stitches to stretch out like crazy as you see in this pattern, creating significant gaps between the columns of knits. look how tight the knit columns are! those knits were definitely not worked loosely. they may be twisted sts, or they may be standard knits worked at a fairly tight gauge. regardless, i believe pretty confidently that gaping is created by a small number of sts being stretched across a large-circumference neckline. however, if you wanted to change this look, it could very easily be changed by picking up a larger number of stitches!
do you have a pattern for your Mexican blanket? I love that and it would be a great stash buster for several worsted weight yarns I have. Also, I do not seem to have all the options for the advance search on Rabelry - specifically the "not" filter to narrow searches. Thanks.
I loved the look of All Star Kitty Cat by Hollie Soave in the photo, but do not like the bulky fabric. I don't swatch often so I started and frogget it, because it looks odd to me, will be difficult to carry at laundry, and the finished sweater will be voluminous. Winter requires multiple layers, so I can't carry a massive sweater on my back in addition to a heavy jacket. With some recalculation now I'm making it with way thinner yarn, I just can't stand sensorily this trend.
I have been playing around modifying Stockinette tee by Svetlana Volkova. Replacing I-cord bind off with ribbing, opening neckline and adding rib, it's a basic pattern easy to modify. I prefer going up a needle size despite being on gauge.
...and the Raum Sweater Pekka Strukkturgenaer reminds me very much of Anne Ventzels Ribbed Jumper. I knit that after the original pattern and did not like the deep raglan lines on the finished sweater. I ribbed wverything and reknit the sweater like a normal RVO (increases every other line). I think it can be easily adapted to bulky weight. The structure is just broken rib. I am very happy with the result now. But not sure if it is the best structure for boucle yarn. But maybe you swatch and like it. Curious to find out which sweater you will knit.
I did a search and came across the 1413-12 Raglangenser that looks very similar to the Norwegian pattern you liked. There’s a link in the pattern description for a downloadable English version. These might also work: Marilyn by Anna & Heidi Pickles; MOIRA by Rowena Meier Designs; The Boucle Hoodie by Elida Virack. (I posted this earlier with links but it’s disappeared from the comments ( 🤷🏻♀️)
Sandnes Garn is my local yarn mill. At least in Norway we can only buy their patterns/booklets/cataloges if you buy at least 4 skeins of yarn, and the yarn must be one that is used in one of the patterns, or one of their specificly suggested alternatives (if you want superwash merino instead of rustic norwegian wool for instance). That's the rule at their mill, at retailers, and in their online store... it sucks, since their yarn is pretty expensive...🤷♀️
To get a pattern from sandnes you need to find a shop(dealer) near you and by the pattern there (and you will have to purchase yarn from sandnes but not necessarily for that pattern)
Could you swatch a stitch pattern you love and then insert that stitch pattern into your frankensweater pattern? I've done that before with reasonable success
In this video you mentioned another video about substituting sizes for your gauge? It was during your shopping but you were talking about changing the size for the gauge you got from swatching the yarn. I watched on my TV so the link didn’t come up and I don’t see it in the description notes. Can you tell me the name of it. I’ve searched your channel but don’t see anything with that description. Thanks!
Blue Mouse Knits did the "Emberglow" chunky raglan. I was one of the pattern testers. It was the first jumper I knit. Super easy to follow, and she has tutorials online for the different skills required. Edit: I can't find it on Ravelry, but she is on there as The Blue Mouse and from there you can find her website, which should have "Emberglow".
I'm trying to stay away from Ravelry because I already have a slew of patterns I want to make by Alana Dakos of Never Not Knitting. I'm slightly obsessed with her patterns because of the leaves and tree cabling woven within. I'm currently knitting her Entangled Vines cardigan.
Børstet means brushed - I knitted a t-shirt in it last year and the fluff just fills out what ever holes there is in the knitting (I knitted on 9mm needles)
Sandness only sells patterns with their yarn - this is how it has been in Scandinavia up until now and they haven't really updated their policy. I have a sandness dealer close to where I knit, I can ask her if she has it?
The Franky sweater is by Norwegian company Sandnes, and they have this policy where you can't get the pattern without buying yarn. It's a normal thing over here. Either you have to buy a kit with yarn and pattern online, or you get it at your LYS. So sorry!
I know you said you didn’t want to knit a cardigan, but back when you ranked your knit sweaters (video about 10 mos ago) you were talking about your yarn choice regret on the Kinikin cardigan and said if you made it again you’d want to use something lighter and airier… maybe this is the yarn? 🤔 😊
@@WOOLNEEDLESHANDS you’re giving my memory way too much credit 😂 auto-plays decided I needed to rewatch the sweater ranking video after this one. So I guess the algorithm gets the credit? Either way, I can’t wait to see how you use this yarn, it looks beautiful! The airy, bubbly yarn is just begging to be something cozy 😊
I'm not seeing that Sandnes requires you to buy their yarn to get the pattern. However, this pattern is only available in a publication. And I guess it's a magazine that Sandnes do. 😢
I'm currently in the process of translating another Scandinavian sweater pattern into English for myself, since there are so few designs with VERTICAL stripes available. :') In my opinion, it's similar to all other translations: You need knowledge of both languages plus of the subject matter i.e. knitting in this case. Can I ping you on Instagram when I'm ready with my first pattern translation and then maybe take on the Pekka sweater (if it's alright with Rauma Designs) next?
Was wondering about Ravelry filters. I don’t like working with mohair but when I search for sweaters and cardigans all the patterns I seem to like have mohair. I’ve filtered by material to NOT mohair but those patterns still come up. Why?
What if you knit the patterns you like, but without using mohair? I would also set the “yarn held together” filter to single strand only, and that might help!
@@katiecaparco one problem with that is it can really change the gauge you reach by essentially working with a smaller yarn. I’ve tried “doing the math” but I don’t want to have to rework an entire pattern of cables or recalculate the stitch amounts just to make a design without mohair.
I tried buying the pattern for the 417-4 Pekka Sweater and it says that you have to buy 4 skeins of yarn in order to buy the pattern, which is annoying. I might look some more to see if I can buy the booklet without buying yarn bc I just bought a bunch on vacation and need to wait a while before spending more money lol Btw if you right click in Chrome, you can translate the whole page to English :)
Warning…dumb question alert! First I know WHAT Swatch is, but when a pattern says make a swatch as you said what do you do? How many stitches? How many rows? Give me all the info. Thanks!
Most swatches are measured in 4x4-inch squares. I have been told to make a 5x5 inch square so it's easier to measure your swatch with a ruler. You'll want to count how many stitches are in that 4x4 section to see if you meet gauge according to the pattern. If gauge isn't met you can move up or down a needle size to get close. Not everyone meets gauge, but you're doing fine if you can get close.
@@heathers8826 thank you. I see it on patterns which says how many stitches your swatch should be but I never understand how big the swatch should be to begin with
Bouclé is going to hide stitch definition. Textured stitch patterns will be lost in it. Frogging that yarn would also be a nightmare. Your best bet is to find a yarn with a very similar texture and weight. Then look at the projects made with that yarn on ravelry.
I looked through the comments for the Franky sweater, and apparently, you have to purchase both a pattern book and a sweater's quantity of yarn to get this pattern. 😕
I wouldnt knit a textured stitch sweater with boucle yarn, just because those two tectures might clash and you dont get the full potential of boucle yarn.
Hi Tayler, I have an English version of the Franky Genser pattern from the Sandnes Garn booklet that I’d be happy to email you photos of! I know the booklets are super hard to get in the US 🥲
Today, we're just window shopping! Sit back, relax, and enjoy.

Oooo that sounds like fun! Who is this person? I’d love to see.

I made the winter league and made a really cute sweater
Your new wool you produced is beautiful and live the colours

Thank you, that was so helpful in showing me how to get the best from Ravelry. Loved looking at the bulky yarn sweaters too.
So glad you enjoyed this! Thank you for watching. ❤️
I love “The Think” music from Jeopardy. Glad I’m not the only one that uses it.

for spiral ply. ☺️
Beautiful yarn…hope you find a pattern you love!
The winter league pullover was the first sweater I ever knit. It was so easy and still one of my favorite sweaters to wear!!
I find that boucle' type yarns do best in just stockinette. You never see the detail of varied stitches. The yarn is the star.

😂Der Moment, als du dir die Wolle vor die Stirn hälst als Mütze hat sowas von Schwarzwald-Vibes.❤
I love that.
I think this is great advice! And I think that’s the beauty of this yarn. Thank you for sharing this. ❤️❤️❤️
I suggest looking at some of Ysolda Teague,s patterns.
She has done a few Sweatshirt sweaters
I’ve had my eye on this pattern for quite a while for super bulky. It is the Tofino cardigan by Tara Lynn Morrison.
She also has many patterns for bulky and they are just gorgeous
Ah yes! I love Tara Lynn's patterns. I've knit the Kinikin and though it's not the color I spring for often, it's a fun cardigan. ❤️
Hi , your Sand es Gar sweater reminded me of the Coming Soon Sweater by Paula Strickt, available in English (on my to do list for months!!)
I have translated patterns from both French and Fin. Wasn’t difficult at all. Give it a go!
❤️❤️
Unselect all sweaters and select pullover. Choose English language. Choose the desired needle size for the fabric you’re looking for (9-11).
I have been playing around modifying Stockinette tee by Svetlana Volkova. Replacing I-cord bind off with ribbing, opening neckline and adding rib, it's a basic pattern easy to modify. I prefer going up a needle size despite being on gauge.
yes you need to buy a kit or the yarn to get he pattern
...and the Raum Sweater Pekka Strukkturgenaer reminds me very much of Anne Ventzels Ribbed Jumper.
The buying of 4 skeins is also a "rule" for Rauma Garn...😅
To get a pattern from sandnes you need to find a shop(dealer) near you and by the pattern there (and you will have to purchase yarn from sandnes but not necessarily for that pattern)
Could you swatch a stitch pattern you love and then insert that stitch pattern into your frankensweater pattern? I've done that before with reasonable success
I bet I totally could! And that’s a fantastic idea. ❤️❤️
Her TH-cam video notes that it will be released on 10/4.
@@jenmc8860 Brilliant, thanks 😊
Hi! Just curious - what mic do you use? The sound is pretty nice!
Ok, huge thank you because sound quality is a big deal for me. This makes my day. 😀 Secondly, it’s a Blue Yeti Pro USB microphone. ❤️
@@WOOLNEEDLESHANDS thanks so much!!
Can you filter ravelry with only English patterns?
Yes you can
Yep! You absolutely can. ☺️
My experience with translating patterns to be able to knit … all the time. From English to my language.
Check the Wooly Thistle for the Rauma 417 booklet.
That’s a great suggestion!
Also, if you need translation of Danish, Swedish or Norwegian let me know
I literally just acquired 700yds of bulky wool so..... Yes.
🎉🎉🎉
I think the Traveler by Andrea Mowry.
Fun video! If you would like to knit the Pekka strukturgenser from Rauma, I'd be happy to translate it for you 🙂
The Franky sweater is by Norwegian company Sandnes, and they have this policy where you can't get the pattern without buying yarn. It's a normal thing over here. Either you have to buy a kit with yarn and pattern online, or you get it at your LYS. So sorry!
Good to know! Thank you!
@@WOOLNEEDLESHANDS PS: I can translate the Rauma pattern for you if you like. I've done quite a few Norwegian to English pattern translations. ;)
Thank you so much!! I may be in touch.
How do I buy your yarn?
I know you said you didn’t want to knit a cardigan, but back when you ranked your knit sweaters (video about 10 mos ago) you were talking about your yarn choice regret on the Kinikin cardigan and said if you made it again you’d want to use something lighter and airier… maybe this is the yarn? 🤔 😊
First of all, I LOVE that you remember that. Secondly, you may be absolutely right about this. 🤔🤔🤔☺️☺️☺️
In my opinion, it's similar to all other translations: You need knowledge of both languages plus of the subject matter i.e. knitting in this case.
Can I ping you on Instagram when I'm ready with my first pattern translation and then maybe take on the Pekka sweater (if it's alright with Rauma Designs) next?
I tried looking for the Franky sweater pattern in English over a week ago and I could not find it.
Did you clear out your previous search and begin again to exclude Mohair?
Probably because the mohair is seen as optional for a lot of designers, so they'll say that it's not necessarily part of the pattern.
@@katiecaparco one problem with that is it can really change the gauge you reach by essentially working with a smaller yarn. I’ve tried “doing the math” but I don’t want to have to rework an entire pattern of cables or recalculate the stitch amounts just to make a design without mohair.
I have translated patterns to English before. If you search for knitting terms translations and you will find lists of terms in different languages.
I tried buying the pattern for the 417-4 Pekka Sweater and it says that you have to buy 4 skeins of yarn in order to buy the pattern, which is annoying. I might look some more to see if I can buy the booklet without buying yarn bc I just bought a bunch on vacation and need to wait a while before spending more money lol
Btw if you right click in Chrome, you can translate the whole page to English :)
I dunno, gorgeous colors, I just can't get behind boucle yarn, its not my thing....but that's why there are so many choices, right?
I see it on patterns which says how many stitches your swatch should be but I never understand how big the swatch should be to begin with
@@amandakingsmore1124remember also to wash/soak your swatch before measuring
Bouclé is going to hide stitch definition. Textured stitch patterns will be lost in it.
Frogging that yarn would also be a nightmare.
Your best bet is to find a yarn with a very similar texture and weight. Then look at the projects made with that yarn on ravelry.
I have a book knitting languages by Margaret Heathman it helps you translate patterns in many different languages might help.
Pretty certain that yarn is a spiral ply, not bouclé!
It certainly seems more like that! I’ve never heard of a spiral ply before. Very cool!
I looked through the comments for the Franky sweater, and apparently, you have to purchase both a pattern book and a sweater's quantity of yarn to get this pattern. 😕
That's what I'm realizing. 😕
I wouldnt knit a textured stitch sweater with boucle yarn, just because those two tectures might clash and you dont get the full potential of boucle yarn.
I think you’re absolutely right. One would diminish the other. Thank you!
Hi Tayler, I have an English version of the Franky Genser pattern from the Sandnes Garn booklet that I’d be happy to email you photos of! I know the booklets are super hard to get in the US 🥲
