@@Killerbee4712 Actually no.

I never realized this weapon was considered "trash" having a long range option on scout is super fun
I'm more surprised that sniper having any sort of close range combat ability is considered OP, but Scout having any long range damage is considered garbage.
Oh, for years it was considered hot garbage. Back in the day many people called it scout's worst weapon besides the SoaS.
@@BasicallyGoblin SOAS and the SVF aka the RIFT items need a alt fire that does fire damage, I thought something like a flare gun shot for them, but now Dragon's Fury fireball would be better.
for the Wrap Assassin, I just considered it a funny weapon, but now I might start using it.
@@Hungeryan I wouldn't say garbage, but you have to factor in arcs and projectile travel time. It isn't as reliable as melee unless you're already in melee range.
@@Hungeryan TF2 Community's opinions on weapons are outdated and/or biased. Pick weapons on your own.
I don't know how this weapon was ever considered "bad." Even after the Sandman was nerfed, how did people not see what this thing is good for? This is one of those weapons that does have downsides, but you almost never see them come into play, so it might as well be a straight upgrade.
Sensible Dog 09 said it best
The Sandman is a straight upgrade as a damage dealing melee on a class that isn't expected to deal damage with melee. Using the Wrap Assassin means not using the Atomizer or Boston Basher, and most Scout play styles are hardwired to incorporate those two weapons.
Also, and this is the really important reason, it's too festive. Using Christmas themed weapons on months that aren't December feels blasphemous.
Because soundsmith said it was bad, and his word is gospel according to the tf2 community.
They didn't because sandman was literally better
Sure the recharge rate may be slower, but stun is infinitely better than bleed
However that doesn't change the fact that people who think it's *still* bad are idiots

some people are still living in 2015 when the wrap assassin was a vastly inferior sandman.

You can’t blame us, Jungle Inferno aside, valve hasn’t truly cared since 2015

Love how everyone who plays this game says “scout never uses melee anyways” when talking about his melee weapons, but then say that the wrap assassin is trash even tho it’s the only melee that isn’t a melee…. Not counting the sandman since…. It does literally nothing except get you killed even fucking faster
The scout's Vitasaw.
@@kirbyfreakyt4695 except worse
@@NormalThe7th
Well... technically, it's better.
While all damage is basically halved, it has a rechargable projectile stunning at long range (It might just crit now...? I thought it stuns after like 7 seconds of the ball being in midair but that's almost an impossible shot), and it's on SCOUT, who could get in to make use of that full 40 damage per swing.
The Vitasaw being on Medic, who is slower, means it's SLIGHTLY weaker.
@@kirbyfreakyt4695 i mean , scout has to face a more harsher damage penalty for 15 damage

Yeah that's what I thought using the Sandman for the first time.
"If I hit a light class with the ball (good luck) they'll be at as much of a disadvantage as me and then they're slowed down!"
I can only barely take down light classes with the scattergun alone, much less at a disadvantage.
Reminds me when in CSGO the AUG and SG553 were considered "noob weapons", then Valve brought down their prices and pros began to use it. Then Valve returned the prices to normal and the pros still use it because they're just too good. Then Valve ended up nerfing them for good

They always were great weapons since the CS 1.6 days, it's kinda hilarious that the only thing that held down their use was the weapon value. Talk about a stale meta.
The AUG is still one of my favourite weapons though
Oh, the tragedy of SG553. At least it was a fun alternative to buying fucking AK every time, but now you can outgun 8/10 people with R8 ffs (and as much as I love this weapon, it's still a complete trash.)
Hmm, maybe the pros are saying the wrap assassin is bad just to stop valve nerfing it.
Fun fact, the cleaver and wrap assassin's bleeds actually stack because they deal separate damage types. I'd personally prefer using either the cleaver OR the WA and save the leftover slot for a different weapon, but it's certainly a decent option to run a combo scout of sorts using both.
I mean, even if you aren’t getting the long-range crits, connecting with both the ball and cleaver can still kill a light class if they don’t stop the bleeding.

The wrap assassin's reputation is mostly due to existance of sandman. But after Sandman was made completely useless, There really is no reason for that reputation anymore.

I greatly enjoy the "In defense of X" series, thanks for another entry in it Mr. Fish man.
Agreed! Seeing him look at underrated weapons is really enjoyable!
In defense of the Scottish Resistance is my favorite video he's made, great series
I believe he said in his community tab that he plans on doing "in defense of the Ambassador" sometime in the future, so there's that aswell
The wrap assassin back in the day had the same recharge time as the sandman, which was about 15 seconds iirc, meaning even less reason to use it. Now, with the rng damage buff, 25% faster recharge, and even the sandman itself getting a shorter charge which ALSO affects the wrap assassin. It's wayyyy better than it was before
Also the crit after being in the air for more than a second
I think the biggest reason people are calling it bad is because of scout as a whole,he doesn't use his melee much and good scout players know that,so most players will prioritize weapons with utility capabilities like the atomizer giving scout a triple jump and the Boston basher helping meds build uber, the wrap assassin is probably overshadowed by scout being a class that doesn't really use his melee as an offensive weapon but rather as a utility weapon,
the boston basher also gives you a third or even forth jump if you have nearby health packs, a medic friend or are high on ketamine
@@griss295 wait scout isent always on ketamine? like he drinks bonk which is 33% toxic shit and he drinks crit o cola which is bonk+sniper piss and he's ok throwing cum on his dad not to forget that the health packs proable are 60% ketamine.
...but it's a ranged attack.
@@J4hk2 That's not the point. The comment is about how most Scout mains use their melee as a utility tool than an actual offensive weapon. Besides, the pistol is also a ranged weapon.
@@charlsondemong4922 But the logic behind the reason is clearly invalidated by it being ranged. Not to mention it does more damage at long range than pistol while not actually occupying your pistol slot so you can use both or switch out pistol for something and still have range capability.
When you said "You lose out on building Uber with the Boston Basher" I realized I should point out the fact that you CAN self-damage yourself with the Wrap Assassin (even if it isn't much). Also, now I feel vindicated in completing a Specialized Killstreak WA Kit.
yes, you can self damage with wrap assassin, but 10-15 self damage per 7.5 seconds wont help build uber

@@dragonslayer7724 ah, yes the 10-15 self damage that is really useful to uber building/damage boosting
@@teshinthai2541 I guess it's more a thing to watch out for than actually helping
This is a pattern I've seen for a while, but the Wrap Assassin is the 2nd (or third) best melee for scout. There's a reason why flank scouts in 6s use it when they're not using the Basher (all the reasons you listed lol). If you're in casual, the best melee is the Atomizer with the second being the Wrap Assassin (same for Highlander). If you're in 6s, the best is the Basher (uber building) and the second is this (especially in 5CP) or the Atomizer. There are quite a few good weapons in TF2 that casual players seem to think are garbage, when they're actually good, but mostly just because they exist in the shadow of another stronger (or more widely used) weapon.
The atomiser is banned in 6’s isnt it?
@@donaldmacisaac8479 was about to comment that

8:12 this is even funnier when you take into account that the cleaver is banned on comp 6s while the wrap assasin isnt, due being a weaker, less spammable version of the cleaver

@@keithbrannon251 it's the sad consequence of comp tf2 being fundamentaly different from pubs
That doesn't mean it's a bad mode, far from it, is just that obviously using a weapon designed with 24 players in mind in a mode with only 12 or 18 players is gonna make them super busted.
And even then, it's not like the comp community WANTS to ban weapons, in an ideal world every weapon that isn't busted on a technical level would be allowed, but I don't want to get into competitive balancing discussion as that's a touchy subject that Fish has already talked about pretty nicely

It's worth mentioning that since it is a melee weapon, the bauble and guillotine bleed effects stack on each other, giving anyone unlucky enough a brutal -8 dps ticker.
Edit: actually its 16 dps!
It’s the equipvalent of getting punched both in the dick and the face
Honestly, using the Wrap Assassin and Guillotine for the standard ranged flava can be improved if you have the Shortstop! Along with that devastating 8 ticks of damage, you can pepper your enemy as they flee from the battle.
It's all about stacking as many stats on the HUD as possible. The *holy meter trinity* is no laughing matter.
Make it double. -16 dps ticker. The wrap assassin and the cleaver deal -4 damage every HALF a second. Add them up, multiply it by two, and you've got a ranged cancer cannon. That sounded way worse in execution.
a single bleed is already 8 dps, since it ticks twice a second, so stacking these gives you 5 seconds of 16 dps
I always used the Wrap Assassin ever since the Sandman got nerfed into the ground. Combined with the Cleaver and the Force-a-Nature makes killing light classes real easy.
I'm surprised you didn't mention how the bauble also stuffs invis ( and I think the dead ringer if it's the bauble that triggers the dead ringer and not the bleed ) because of the dust that surrounds the spy on a hit. I've definitely ruined a lot spy's getaways just because of that, and that's what also makes it a very strong weapon
To be fair, you can do the same with the Boston Basher. But still with the Wrap Assassin is easier to do so still fuck spies

The Wrap Assassin is a nostalgic unlock for me. I remember it being my first Melee unlock for Scout when I was 13. I caught on quick that Scout wasn't very strong at long ranges, so I'd always use it. I had a combo with the Mad Milk I called the "Christmas Vampire" where I'd gain back about a third of my health or so using the Milk + Ball.
Oh my lord, I used to do that too..! I called it the Christmas Vampire as well.

Finally people are starting to realize this is a very good item. I think most people see the "-65% damage penalty" and immediately label it as trash despite the fact that you're never supposed to hit anyone with it in the first place.
I would argue that even a new player would realize that Scout's melee is trash. More than likely, the people who label the Wrap Assassin as trash don't realize how much of a difference the weapon makes. Doubly so if they aren't good at the game, since they'll usually miss, and when they actually hit all they see is a 20. They don't see the bleed, they don't see the difference it made, all they see is that number and think "trash". They want to see big numbers because they don't need a deep understanding of the game to understand that, and the Wrap Assassin doesn't do that.
2:56
in Soundsmith's defense that video was before jungle inferno.
Now that the maps have been fixed and I can freely use the Wrap Assassin everywhere, it's become one of my favorite melees again. It's a guaranteed +50 damage on a target if you hit them with the one quick-replenishing projectile, and it's really easy to land in my opinion.
One meatshot and that bauble kills most classes, maybe needing one wrapping paper hit if it's a close quarters battle.
And let's all be real, they destroyed the Sandman and it is now useless. And the Sandman + Cleaver combo was very powerful but easy to nerf by decreasing the stun ability of the Sandman, not completely removing it.
the thing is: how can you reduce literally taking your weapons away? reducing your aim? making you shoot slower? I'm not sure what they should have done.
@@maestrofeli4259 I think they should have certainly at least reduced the time it stuns and heightened the distance/hit registration required to ensure that stun. But let's be real, Moon Shots were amazing, even though they do leave you stunned for too long.
@@maestrofeli4259 Maybe something like the tranquilizer from TF2 Classic but shorter
Honestly I think the Wrap Assassin could even use a nerf, but that's a part of a larger issue of stock melees being shit. As for the Sandman, maybe make it reduce the hit enemy's firing and reload speed? I think that's a good advantage in fights that isn't too frustrating to get hit by.

Thank God I'm not that involved in this community, I never even thought of the possibility of this weapon being bad
I love it
The wrap assassin is the best combat melee, I wouldn’t even call it a melee in the first place. It is basically another secondary, it works very well with tings such as bonk atomic punch, crit a cola, and the mad milk because it makes up for the lack of a secondary with, well, another secondary. Although the atomizer is great for its utility (Along with the boston basher sometimes), the wrap assassin is probably the best combat melee.
Edit: Even if you are using a damaging secondary (Especially the winger), it makes those stronger.
When playing TF2 I always had trouble hitting my balls, no matter what I did I never managed to hit my balls. Until one day I got into a good rhythm, and now I always hit my balls, and it feels so good. Also the Wrap Assassin is pretty neat too i guess.
its ranged bleed. on a melee weapon. on a class who doesnt have a lot of range. no shit its good.
Seriously, I don't understand how people can't see this. It's free extra ranged damage as long as you hit the ball. It's so spammable you can basically toss it at whichever enemy you choose to fight, giving you an added edge for zero downside. Even if you miss you haven't lost much except a very small amount of time you could have been shooting your shotgun or pistol.
I have literally never heard anyone, ever, say the Wrap Assassin is anything less than top tier. Some people say that the Boston Basher is better (probably because they see it used in 6s and assume it must be the best?) but I don't see it.
@@Acidicheartburn As scout you don't want to shoot enemies until you close the distance anyways since you will trade alerting the enemy and getting the jump on them for like 15 damage with your pistol or scattergun which is not worth it. The baubles travel time negates this as by the time they react to the bauble you are already right behind them and pumping them full. So saying the wrap assassin has a downside of taking time before a fight to get damage in really doesn't even apply! I really love this weapon!
The thing is, being the cheeky flanking class scout is, there are just several more useful utilities that other bats provide (maybe not the bat lol). Atomizer allows you to go for riskier sniper picks/out maneuver a heavy. Sandman allows you to better duel other flanking classes or high mobility classes. The boston basher for christ sake can get ubers out lol. The fan is a very good utility in MVM (ok maybe the assassin is better than the fan). Regardless, there are so many more things you can do with other bats that award more playstyles, whereas the wrap assassin is just... kinda annoying. Scouts can twoshot/three shot 90% of the classes in tf2 by very quickly unloading his scattergun, so that 10 second delay slow damage buildup just isnt as effective when entire duels/fights dont even last as long. Its not a bad bat, but its also not as gamechanging than some of scout's other melees.

well to be fair the weapon stereotypes video on scout came out before the sandman got nerfed
The wrap assassin is basically a constant pistol. It weakens the enemy so You can even use the scattergun to kill almost anything in a decent distance
Soundsmith complaining about how “bad” the wrap assassin is while trying to hit someone with the tube is so funny to me. Like yeah no shit that’s not gonna do much- that’s not what it’s for
exactly, scout is a close-midranged class which relies on big damage meatshots. not fucking whacking your enemy to DEATH WITH YOUR 3 DAMAGE MELEE. EVEN FUCKING STOCK BAT YOU WILL GET OUTDAMAGED BY A MEDIC USING A BLUTSAUGER.
I seriously never knew people thought the weapon was that bad and I can't understand why.
Hitting a ball deals more damage than a hit from the stock bat and you can do it at a range where Scout is normally lacking, even giving incentive to do so with the crit thing (which I didn't know about either why does this game have so many unlisted stats). I barely see any serious player actually try using a regular melee attack with Scout except maybe with the Boston Basher so why would it matter with the Wrap Assassin.
Even before the bug was patched it still was one of my main melee options up there with the Atomizer. It's pretty much a free upside since the downsides of having slower access to a melee attack or having a weaker one is meaningless on a class with 6 shotgun shots more than capable of dodging or running out and in again while reloading one more if needed.
Stats in the game are unlisted so players have things to discover, learn & master from playing the game.
Unfortunately, some of these things are hidden too well.
So glad someone finally gave this weapon the attention it deserves. By far my favorite "melee" weapon for Scout.
I've always used this melee for scout and I don't know why people dislike it so much.
It's a melee weapon that can shoot a bleeding projectile, and recharges relatively quickly.
What is there to explain?
the big youtubers dislike bleed because it's annoying and they spread misinformation so they don't get pestered by 3 scouts with long range bleed
@@themultiversalasbestosdeal7771 it’s more that all the videos regarding the wrap assassin are massively outdated, they came out before it’s buffs and the sandman’s nerfs, back then it genuinely WAS a bad pick, like how the backscatter currently is (as of the time of posting) there was just better options that could fill the same niche.
really, before jungle inferno it was just a worse sandman, but now sandman is terrible and never worth using outside of MVM, but for some reason people wont change their minds about it? a lot of big youtubers before j.i. said it sucked for good reason, but now its outdated and most of the community still takes their outdated info as current day fact
The sandman used to be OP and overshadowed the wrap assassin. Now that the sandman is basically worthless, people still have their opinion on the wrap assassin colored by the past.
I got into this melee after seeing the ranged flava gimmick and I've never gone back. Free bleeding from any range in the melee slot is very useful.
Tbh, ever since you first mentioned this thing (can't remember when though), I've been using it on every Scout loadout. Figured "why not try it out?". And I've loved it ever since, along with the Scottish Resistance. So thank you Fish, thank you for paying attention to the Wrap Assassin, along with every other weapon you talk about.
I've been using this thing ever since I got it. A long range option on scout is nice, and there's literally no reason to ever switch to your melee as a scout for damage alone, as reloading your scattergun is only slightly longer than pulling out your melee. So there's basically no downside, and it deals 15 damage + bleed for 5 seconds at range. How did people ever think this was bad?
i think it would be an interesting video series to go over weapons deemed "bad" that aren't actually bad.
In Defense of the Scottish Resistance already exists, one for the Ambassador is already planned, and I think one for the Pain Train as well.
There’s already a bunch of them in the channel
dragon’s fury, soda popper, pain train(?), Natasha, banana/dalokah, quickie bomb, solemn vow
@@nicholasho1595 hows he gonna make a long and interesting video about the *pain train*? not that its bad by any means but its just so boring
we NEED it for the enforcer. I'm upset it got a bad weapon academy, someone please explain to fish how good it truly is.
"You could not live with the Sandman after it was nerfed. And where did that bring you? Back to me."
- The Wrap Assassin, probably.
In defense of soundsmith's opinion, I'm pretty sure that video came out before the sandman nerf. Back then it was completely overshadowed.
As I seem to recall Soundsmith mentioning the stun mechanics and new scouts overconfidence with the stuns instead of calling it garbage, I am going to assume this is true.
Yeah I remember the segment opening with a CinemaSins reference with him saying "Discount Sandman" followed by a ding and a counter. It was definitely before The Sandman got nerfed.
Yet now it is probably his most memorable thing because Clockwork Smurf decided to pair it with the Guillotine for being pure nuisance and bleeds.

Part of the reason the Wrap Assassin has historically been considered trash is because it was quite a bit worse prior to Tough Break, where it got a number of buffs.
The reason it's good is pretty simple. The thing most scouts won't do (normal melee attacks) is worse but you get a ranged DOT. (which also stacks with the other ranged DOT scout has)
Kind of don't see how it's seen as a bad weapon when it's only downside is for something you wouldn't be doing anyway.
"the community seems to think the wrap assassin is garbage"
my wrap assassin enjoying ass: "news to me"
Those who say the wrap assassin is bad have never been able to hit a ball and/or didn't know you could fire the ball
I have hit a lot of balls indeed (do not take that out of context) but I just dont think a ball that does bleed damage is better than a uber building/min-critting melee. Just my thought.
@@creatorofcheese oh well then i guess thats just your preference then. I quite i enjoy the wrap assassin and i find it a bit more enjoyable than the boston basher in a serious setting.

Reality: Wrap Assassin is the third best weapon for scout and in some situations the second best.
@@smickothesmickest melee or primary + secondary included?
In my opinion, the wrap assassin is the better boston basher. As you get free ranged bleed from your melee slot and if you miss you don't take your own damage and bleed. The wrap assassin isn't made for direct combat, but for mid to long range fights or to weaken the enemy

Finally. I genuine love using this thing, and its so satisfying to see a video on it. Your Baby Faces Blaster video made me start using this thing and I loved it enough to get a strange one.
I never understood people hating on the wrap assassin post sandman nerf. Great video
the wrap assassin was probably my first unlock, and it's also almost a direct upgrade. you're unlikely to use your melee for damage as scout anyway, but the wrap assassin gives you free damage over time at a range as long as you can hit the projectile.
the fan o' war is also good.
I think it is the best of the lesser melees since the atomizer and basher are too good to pass up. It is juuuust slightly less useful. I do think it is the best option in a crowded payload up since it lets you safely do some damage.
the basher is only good for uber building the wrap assassin is just the basher but as a projectile
@@sheenfromtf2 Well yeah why use melee for anything but utility.
@@UsingGorillaLogic Because you can use the Wrap Assassin? You've missed the point of this video entirely.
@@UsingGorillaLogic If you already have another scout on your team with the basher (assuming comp because why would you use the basher in casual), then it's actually worth using depending on the map, since you might benefit more from the ball than you would an extra jump. You see competitive scouts run all three for a reason.
@@spiceforspice3461 I guess that just makes sense I am just a jump addict.
What's important about the wrap assassin is the fact it doesn't have a noticeable downside.
The candy cane should be a shoe-in for best scout melee. More medkit healing on the premier roaming class is incredible. But the explosive weakness is such a detriment it kills the item. Even during sandman's hayday, the health penalty was a legitimate downside that caused scouts to die in situations they normally wouldn't.
Personally, I find the atomizer a bit too much of a gimmick, and while I like the Boston basher medic feeding, it too suffers from the fact that it's only good when...feeding a medic. Once you're out doing scout things, it's pointless.
Wrap assassin is always viable and doesn't punish you for taking it. Unless you're going for something specific (taking one of those unintended atomizer short cuts or feeding a medic for a push), the wrap assassin should be your default pick in all other situations.
the fan of war is actually really good too, having permanent mini crits until you or the target dies is really strong, plus no damage falloff. It renders the backscatter entirely useless, too
3:54 35% melee damage penalty to 35 cannot do 12, this is more like a 60% damage penalty ??
he prob meant 35% of normal damage
65%
it says 65% damage penalty in the weapon stats
Whoever came up with the BabyFace/Cleaver/Wrap Assasin combo likely enjoys the scorch shot.
I don't really see what's wrong with the combo. I mean, yeah, it's not great, but that's just because the BFB sucks, not because the loadout itself is bad. I'd say it's the best option to pair with the BFB, or maybe substitute the cleaver with the Winger.
The Wrap Assassin basically makes an "useless" weapon slot viable (kinda like Crusader's Crossbow does to Medic). I like to pair it with a pistol, especially the broken good Pretty Boy's Pocket Pistol.

Damn thats a good point
I mean technically it is festivized with the whole Christmas wrapping paper thing... but it'd be funny if Valve just added lights on top of that
@@blazingwaters7469 I mean, let’s be honest.
That sounds like a Valve thing to do.
The wrap assassin is such a great counter against the fists of steal because paper beats rock
I've paired it up with the gulliotine and it's satisfying to see classes just bleed out and die with the combo.
Ahhh. The Bleed Scout's Boxwrapping baton of Bad Melee Damage but Bombastic Bleed at Brilliant Range.

The video was before the sandman nerf, I think
Went in the video like "Absolutely no way you can convince me that this thing is worth anything"... but now I'm convinced...
Why I like the wrap assassin:
-Takes up melee slot so you can use something like mad milk to capitalize off the bleed.
-Recharges slower than the guillotine making it more balanced
-Uaable as a, if not very weak, last resort melee
-Weak hits allow you to hit hoovies with it without them feeling threatened.
-Bleed softens up enemies allowing you to kill them with your primary or even the weak melee
-Guaranteed snipe crits reward accuracy!
Happy someone else loves this thing. If I'm not using the atomizer, I'm using the assassin. Also knowing that all those long range crits were actually a mechanic makes them feel so much better to hit them.
As someone who wasn’t around to play the game during the Sandman + Cleaver overrule, I’ve never even heard of people thinking this thing was bad. it’s always been my go to for scout. I don’t really care about uberfarming and atomizer feels too comital due to its upside only being active while it’s equipped. Wrap Assassin has always just felt like a natural pick to me. Also it’s vaguely Christmas themed and that’s easily the best holiday so that just makes me like it more. Screw using the Candy Cane though. I can hardly dodge rockets as is, I don’t need to be dying from a little splash
You can combine this with the Shortstop and Mad Milk to make a long-ranged Scout playstyle in order to counter enemy Scouts by abusing your DPS at range.
This video makes me so happy because when I discovered this weapon like a year ago I bacicly haven’t switch off the melee because my favorite scout secondary is the giutine and I love the combo because if I miss both I get the ball back instantly or if I hit one I have a free 50-100 damage when I engage the enemy and if I hit both I just go find a new target because I know they are dead
I think an underrated part of the WA is that is replaces the pistol's role of "buttering up or finishing off targets" and opens the secondary up for a utility. Not as well, mind you, but still pretty good imo.
12:11 Now you must be called "Cardboard Stick On A Stick"
P.S: Hope your *balls* get better soon. Although with the 25% faster recharge rate they must be fine.
That was a good one.
Wrapper also works well with the milk. You get essentially a free heal over time effect without having to take any risks.
Running away? Hit both and you’ve effectively grabbed a health kit. Going for a kill? Hit a secondary target and you don’t have to worry about chip damage.
Medics don’t exist in pubs and a third jump is a navigational tool at best, literally why not.
I didn’t even know the stigma existed
I thought everyone used the wrap assassin
But I guess not
THank you, ive been preaching this to my friends for years bro. Sometimes you just cant hit that last shot but if you get it off at the beginning then it allows for you to not have to deal with finishing them off.
I rarely go and hit someone with my melee slot so I think having wrap assassin equipped makes it just better than not ever using melee
A really cool part about the wrap assassin is the little white cloud that appears when you hit someone with the bauble. Since it follows people around, you can use it to track down a dead ringer spy.
Yet another reason not to use the Dead Ringer on any map other than Gold Rush or Voodoo
Seriously preach how good this thing is!!
I’ve been using it for years to the point where it’s basically my go to Scout melee weapon
id argue the Wrap Assassin is equal to the gulliotine because the Ornament has a MUCH flatter arc and seems to fly faster. this, combined with the added bonus of getting to carry a pistol, makes the Wrap at least A tier.
Thank you, this weapon always seems to be one of the most underrated melee weapons, like The Sun on a Stick, Stock Knife and The Direct Hit
Stock knife and direct hit i can see, being genuinely good, but sun on a stick is to reliant on outside sources for its bonus, (also it’s a scout melee weapon if your trying to hit somebody with it your either really desperate, or meming)

People think the Wrap Assassin is bad for three reasons:
*1.* They read "-35% damage" and automatically assume it's a terrible weapon, not realizing that this stat literally doesn't matter on a utility melee, and that there are plenty of other utility melees with a damage penalty that are more than viable.
*2.* Before the Sandman was nerfed the Wrap Assassin was always seen as "the Sandman for Scouts who can't deal with the health reduction." Now that the Sandman is quite frankly garbage there's no reason to use it over the Wrap Assassin, but the cardboard tube still has this stigma.
*3.* The "meta" for Scout melees has always been kinda stale, with the choice of either the Atomizer (for most standard forms of play), the Boston Basher (for tryhard comp players), or the fish / pan (for memers) being staples of 80% of Scout loudouts. Scout suffers a lot from "the Ubersaw problem" where certain choices in the weapon slot completely overshadow the others, to the point that using any other weapon in that slot is considered trolling because "it's not the meta." This is also why the Candy Cane and Fan-o-War are also often seen as "troll weapons" by people who simply don't want to use a weapon with a real tangible downside.
