I never realized that I needed to watch "camping news" nor did I know there was such a thing. But here I am watching every episode. Thanks for the valuable information. 2021 plans are still in flux but we do intend to visit national parks where ever we go.

RVM: Jeez this looks like it took a ton of work. So a big thanks for that! Any word on if this will be permanent or not. Sadly, I seem to think once they are in place they'll stay forever.

Not an RVer but I watch for travel info! I'm heading to the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Petrified Forest Natl Park and back on Route 66 in a big loop to & from Sedona mid-May so it sounds like I may be spared from the changes...fingers crossed! Thanks for the video!!

Olympic National Park & Crater Lake National Park. Made reservations for camping months ago. These parks aren't using the timed entry; I do think the timed entry will be difficult for people who can't schedule at the time the entry passes are released and will have to risk getting entry passes at other times such as the few walk-ups.

Thanks for gathering this info. Was not aware this was happening although with the number of RV’s sold and Covid related increased in-country travel I expected it.
To answer to you question: are you planning to travel to National Parks this summer?
    NO! Not any more.
I just hope the parks are staffed and funded to handle this crush of visitors.

Wow! I didn’t know this about Zion. I haven’t been there in a few years. I can’t believe it’s changed. I stayed at the lodge once and we camped out. Other times was there just one day a d came home. Zion is a very nice park to go too and hike. I’ve been to Smokey mountains. I love our parks. Thank you again so much Jason for this information. It helps us to know what to expect.

Wow, busy, busy, I don't see it in my future, at least until camping dies down a bit?? Great job, what a beautiful spot, the moss on the rock wall is such a pretty sight. Can't wait to get camping.

We always go to many National Parks per year. This month, we'll be at the Hatteras National Seashore. We'll be going to Voyegeurs, Theodore Roosevelt, Badlands, Devil's Tower, Rocky Mountains, and Great Sand Dunes in the fall. We always go to the Great Smokies NP and the BRP during the summer. Lots of National Park info to keep up with. Thanks for giving people the heads up with continual changes and additions.

Thanks for your very informative video. The parks were jammed in the summers before Covid, so I can’t imagine how bad it will be now that so many more thousands of people have big new RVs in their driveway needing to go somewhere for the next few years to justify the expense. We’re very fortunate that we can go off-season.

🤦‍♂️ OMG could the NPS make this more of a hodgepodge?! 😂 It reminds of a comedy bit by Australian funny man Jimmy Rees - whom you should checkout, if you have seen his TH-cam sketches.

yes we plan on visiting, Grand Canyon, the five parks in Utah ( only going to Zion to the visitors center and walk the trail we can take a dog on.) Mesa Verde, Great Sand Dunes, Smokey Mountains, and Cuyahoga Valley national Park. We travel with a dog and will only do drive buys or short hikes, I know dogs aren't allowed on most national park trails.

We are planning to spend our 40th Anniversary at the group campgrounds at Mammoth Cave NP. Celebrating while social distancing with several family members and friends who have reservations at the Lodge at Mammoth Cave. The problem right now... no cave tours have been released and we are less than 6 weeks out from our celebration. I have called and all the tour reservation staff can tell me is they are the low man on the totem pole and they do not have any clue as to when tours will be available. If you have any influence in getting us a large group tour, it would be greatly appreciated. 😉. Thanks for all you do in keeping us updated and informed about what is happening in the RV world!

Thanks for the info. I really enjoy this channel and the information it provides. I think Zion has had a ticket policy for the shuttle for awhile. We went last summer and you needed an advance ticket to ride it. They probably have tweaked it some since then. We are going to the Grand Canyon again this year. Since it is basically in our backyard so to speak. We were there twice last year and it was a completely different experience since the crowds were much less. Our first trip was the day they opened the campground up. You had to have a previous res to get in. Talk about a ghost town. Mather campground that has over 100 sites had about 30 spots taken . Very cool.

I really enjoy listening to you and have learned so much about so many subjects related to camping, RVs, and changes at parks and campgrounds. I got reservations for Glacier for a week in July. Nowhere does the reservation say “Going to the Sun” road. It says Glacier. When I called to see if my reservations were for the Sun Road, I waited on hold for a while and then got referred to the website. I couldn’t find the answer anywhere. Maybe you or one of your readers have the answer. Last week I saw your video that discussed dates for getting reservations (April 29th). Even though I had them I was checking to see if I had gotten the wrong one. When I went to the website all of the reservations were closed. I’m hoping what I have will be okay. We have reservations for camping right at that entrance. Thanks!

I ran into troubles last fall with Rocky Mtn Park passes. I didn't realize that you needed them to go through it and the wait time to get one was 3 hours - I drove around. Saved myself an hour but added many miles.

We will be visiting The Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. We are staying in Victor ID and will be driving into the parks and surrounding areas on a daily basis. I don’t particularly care for the timed entries since I will be traveling ~2300 or more miles to get to many of the timed entry parks and a lot can happen that is out of my control over that distance that could cause delays in on time arrivals. I would prefer some type of expanded annual/lifetime pass system that guarantees entry to the part (I would pay more for the option / pass add on). If you don’t have the expanded pass/add on option you would need to get a reservation to enter. (This is just my opinion/idea off the top of my head but I would be willing to pay for the option/pass add on).

I personally love the timed entry/mandatory camping reservation system. It insures that I get in and/or get a site. But for those who fly by the seat of their pants, it's not so good. Many RV'ers who were used to the "where do we go tomorrow/I love this freedom" thing will now have to be more regimental. I traveled to the big 5 last year and it was a friggin mess. Every Joe and Sally with five dogs and a cardboard box to camp in were lined up to get in the parks and get a site at the last minute. Zion was so crowed that they closed it for half a day, and this was in early October. I had no issues since I planned this trip six months in advance and had all my reservations lined up. I know that some people don't like the restrictions, but I see it as a way to "separate the wheat from the chaff" if you will. It will help those of us who are serious about this lifestyle by making the parks more accesible and less crowded and force everyone to plan accordingly.

The restrictions will probably help the parks but it's still pretty rediculous to make a reservation to see nature. And worse yet, I usually see national parks as a tourist trap so all the unpopular areas that are still just as wild and beautiful are spared from the crowds. Now all the quiet areas are going to see crowds of weekend warriors.

Technically for Zion the pass is needed to ride the shuttle (each individual needs one) into the canyon. Each shuttle only accepts 19 passengers, because of covid. If you cant get a shuttle pass rent a bicycle in springdale or st. George. Awesome way to see the canyon. I live here and was there last week with my e-bike, so was a thousand other bicyclists.

Unless you have bicycles, you're going to miss a lot in Zion. you could arrive in the park in the late afternoons and try to get those late day releases. There is a lot of beauty on the zion mt carmel drive, which doesn't use the shuttle, but there's not a lot of places to stop.

The spots just flew away with every click of the mouse. I am not sure this system has made it any less crowded. It was still packed. Do you think it is just another ploy to get more money?
There were tons of people wandering around without a ticket and really disappointed that they couldn't get in the park. Thanks for spreading the word.

I live close to three National Parks. I must be in the 3/4 American‘s group. Hard to believe those statistics.

It took me 27 minutes this morning to get a day pass for Yosemite for May 21. We are also going to the national Park Cuyohoga. Do you know anything about it?

I hate to say it but this should have happened sooner. We visited several parks out west in 2018 and 2019. Some were so crowded we didn't enjoy some of the area's at all.

Heading to Yellowstone and Grand Teton the end of June to 1st of July. Is this something we need to get reservations for?

We would like to visit RMNP - if it would be possible for German tourists because of the travel ban.
My problem is: we can only buy the American Eagle Annual Pass, when we will be in the USA, but I have to reserve the RMNP for our first day of holiday earlier - online from Germany. Will I get the 25$ back, when I buy the pass at the gate of the RMNP?
Or is it in the meantime possible to buy the pass online - for non-residents?

It's technically illegal for them to limit or restrict access to public lands. 👌

I am taking a road trip in a few weeks to hit all 5 NPs in Utah, The Grand Canyon, Monument Valley and home thought RMNP. Are these ridiculous reservation/ticketing schemes already in effect? I looked at the NP Zion page and it was a little confusing. Thanks for the info!

RMNP doesn't begin until May, the Zion shuttle tickets are in effect now.
