You can offset the reload time of your xbow men by creating multiple groups having them all hold fire and have them fire at will with about a second between each group
Bro, you are significantly underselling the Sharpshooters. They are, hands down, the best unit from the Vlandia roster. The biggest strength is the Bound Crossbow, like you mentioned, but their second strength is the 530 HP Pavise shield. The Imperial Sergeant Crossbowman’s is something like 250, so it’s a huge difference. Sharpshooters also clean up melee fights reliably unless you’re fighting many tier 5. The trick to using them is to control their firing. Leaving them on Fire At Will will spend their ammo at max range or firing into shields. You need to line them up beside and behind your infantry and shieldwall BOTH formations to sponge up missile fire and cavalry charges. When the enemy starts to advance, you angle your formations in a V around them to cross-fire with thrown weapons from infantry and bolts from the Sharpshooters. Gotta also shift them from Shieldwall to Line or Loose because they won’t wield crossbows in shield wall.
@@INFJ-ThaneTr I agree. If Fian's weren't so ridiculously OP then Sharpshooter's would be a lot better. And I really do like the Shieldwall options with these guys, I think it takes a little more effort to get more out of them, but it's worth it.
Bro shield units are not even worth after release empire menavliatons and fian champions just one shot every unit in game in close range and ai cant use archers effectively so it is kinda useless to use any shielded troop let alone a shielded missile troop sacrificing 20 more ammuniton for a shield doesnt really help
@@erenhocaoglu8920 The shield is worth more than their weight in gold. Enemy archer formations can spend their entire stock of arrows and never break even ONE Pavise shield typically. The shields are also large and affected by Infantry Shieldwall shield coverage perks, so they will effectively block cavalry charges as well. Yeah, if Menavliatons get into melee with the Sharpshooters it's going to be a massacre, but guess what... I can use 20 Sharpshooters to kill 60 elite menavliatons right now, in 1.0.1, by literally just kiting backwards. Just falling back until ammo runs dry and then shield wall will prove you wrong bud. Menavliaton's have no shield and their armor isn't going to save them from Bound Crossbows 2-shotting them. If you are really finding little value in shielded units then I'm almost certain you're playing on Freebooter and just F1-F3 your fights. Which is fine. Have fun. But please understand that what works on Freebooter will not work on Bannerlord.
Yeah, it does drag down their skirmishing ability. Only a major weakness against Khuzaits and Aserai, as the Imperial Horse archers aren't nearly as good.
- overrated cav - ineffective ranged troops - no good infantry (except for voulgiers) - worst ruler governing - worst marriage prospects (liena is a joke)
There are certain units that really stand out. The Vlandian Banner Knight is an ABSOLUTE MENACE. Im still pretty new and im building a Khans Guard army, but 3 of these were difficult to take down!!! One took out atleast 3 or 4. Another was surrounded by a troop of 15-20 cavalary and was putting up a fight!
I've found that shock cavalry are the best units in the game. More specifically, Banner Knights. They devastate infantry (except if there is a square of a lot of high level Sturgian units) and archers. Best of all, they are the best unit to counter horse archers and the insanely OP Khan's Guard. Before they run out of arrows and switch to glaive that is. They just get ran down and couch lanced, one after the other
Hey. How do you choose which units can be sent in? You said you had different infantry units in each row, how do you specify that? I'm very new, and trying to learn the micromanagement. Also you said you avoid using your calvary in siege.. How? By just leaving them in a castle when you go? Or again, can you specify which units are spawned in which group?
I think in your party screen, you can arrange the order of troops and ones at top have priority, but i think i might’ve seen an option to toggle it in the options menu but i could be wrong
In the settings, you can choose the order your troops get sent in. The options are high tier first, lower tier first, a nice mix (so you get a spread of infantry, ranged, cav and horse archers) and you can also choose for your troop order to be based on your party list (so the units at the top get sent in first)
I haven't determined the order i will do them in, because of how long it takes to do all the testing, but i will do Battania soon. I plan to do each faction.
I feel like whoever I play as has the best troops, maybe player boosts just make it that way, only troop ever to absolutely melt everything is the fian champion, especially if they got awesome archer captains on top
Ok heres the biggest thing you need to do with the horse boys use hammer and anvil tatic aka get sergeants and good number of cav then let the enemy hit your shields slam the cav in the rear of the enemy
TH-cam recommended your videos to me. I'm playing a game with the Vlandians...and even though I'm pretty far along, I think, unfortunately, that I'm going to stop them. Maybe, because I'm too used to the khuzait and their large number of arrows, but their crossbowmen, although quite precise, have too little ammunition and I, who like to do as much damage as possible at a distance before doing engaging infantry doesn't suit me.
What should i do if my faction always attacks castles with like 400-500 troops and get destroyed by enemy lords every time becouse there aint enough of my lords/armies around
great video but i dont agree with saying that they are the best heavy cav in the game. Yes they are more deadly because of councing lance however they also kinda die very easily compared to cataprats or even khuzait heavy lancer so its kind of a glass cannon
The main thing about Vlandian crossbowmen is their pavise. IRL, crossbowmen would literally plant them on the ground and use them as mobile cover. That's not a thing in this game, defeating the entire purpose of a pavise.
I’m the king of vlandia I comepletely destroyed the battians and took half of the west&south territory and the only fraction that is a challenge to me is asrail
Vulgaurs are infact prob the westest 2h infantry in the game, the stats on their polearm are good but they are short and just not very nice to use. The poor weapon lets them down big time. Dispite their poor armor the ashari 2h axe infantry beat every other 2h infantary and every 1h+shield infatry in the game and by a long way. Their giant axe is just really effective in npc hands.
I wish the vlandians were better, I love their style but they have little that makes them stand out from others besides their sharpshooters. Imperial sturgian and surprisingly aserai infantry and cav are just better. Voulgiers are pretty neat though Edit: they do have a pretty good starting position and fiefs well protected on the insides with specific passes and channels into their territory that limits other factions advances on the outskirts, except maybe Charas.
I have had really solid experiences with Vlandian only playthroughs. Despite what some people clearly believe, the Banner Knights are really good cavalry, and supporting them with sharpshooters, makes them nearly unbeatable.
@@Dare_To_Game I have noticed that Banner Knights, while good, have a tendency to lose to Imperial Cataphracts in a one on one. While not a huge loss, it does mean that the Banner knights in particular face horrible attrition when facing off against Imperials, just because Imperials bring so many Cataphracts. Combined with the fact that a bulk of my Verlandia campaigns are taken up fighting Imperials, it is more noticable.
@@Mikalent Elite Cataphracts are better than Banner Knights when it comes to horse melee fighting, but the Elite Cataphracts do not have a couchable spear while the Banner Knights do. This means the Banner Knights have a much stronger initial charge, but they will perform poorly in the ensuing melee if left in close quarters. Banner Knights excel similarly to Druzhinik. They are dual-purpose charge cavalry as well as heavily armored infantry and will outperform Elite Cataphracts in probably every situation EXCEPT horseback melee fighting. Maybe the Cataphract is better in the giant field battles on foot where he can brace his pike and kill cavalry that way but it's an edge factor at best. Banner Knights are fantastic when used properly.
@@Yourebeautyfull Wrong. Several of the tier 6 cavalry options in Bannerlord are stronger than all tier 5 infantry in the game when it comes to foot melee. Stand-outs are Druzhinik Champion and Faris Vanguard but all of them are very good. Khan's Guard with their Glaives make excellent shock infantry when necessary. You can't bring cavalry into a siege, using cavalry in a village battle is problematic, and it absolutely can be worth to dismount them after flanking in an open field battle. I've run a whole campaign using Faris Vanguards in place of Veteran Infantry. It's expensive but they perform better and that's the point. I've done something similar with Khan's Guard.
These guys are only difficult if their economy is strong, bleed their coffers, their deadly cav units stop showing up on the field. Without that? They aren't so bad.
That's in a vacuum but this game is never in a vacuum. An army of 40 bannerknights and 60 sharpshooters will beat every army that's around their army size easily and the crossbows and bannerknights support each other very well. The sharpshooter is just as good as the sergeant in melee
@@Deathelement53 bro unless you micro and like go circles around the elite menavliatons while the sharpshooters shoot, you aint never beating an army of 100 elite menavliaton any time of the day

Menavliatons survive the bannerknight charge and kill them all with like 80 85 of them left and then they charge sharpshooters and run away when they have 40 50 troops left if this was in real game the player would had perks that made the not run away but in an open battle with no perks 40 crossbowmen do beat 80 elite menavliatons ill give you that
@@erenhocaoglu8920 nice test love it. What I will say is my army comp was against the ai in campaign not in a test against 1 of the 2 units hard counters so I while I loved the test I think it was pointless because it will never happen. But if this was to come up i would definitely change tactics as you should whenever something changes and only use the cavalry as a way to slow down the menavliatons by making them run the wrong direction but never fighting making a good chuck not hit the crossbows in one massive charge and just let the crossbows do their work and charge the cav only when the lines meet. My main point tho is the the vlandian crossbows are amazing just like the rhodoks were lol. I'd also say even my army comp is never perfect as I often have recruits and liberated soldiers I will sacrifice as I don't care about the melee infantry so often I have a 20 or so infantry that's whole point is to stand in the front off to the side to cause the enemy to get into a melee with their side open to my crossbows and the cav hit the other side and the back. I also just have my character ride around the back throwing javelins or shooting a bow to make them turn towards me getting bolts into their backs. This obviously is only a thing if you plan to stick to one culture as the best tactic is to just pick and choose the dudes you want as the game doesn't punish you enough for doing this but I like themes
Any of you valandia TH-cam players ever going to do a campaign not named valandia? Yes we get it, it's everyone's favorite faction. But my sturgian spears are slaying them.
Since when did Vlandian cav the "best" in the game? They have the worst armor in the game, even the aserai noble cav is better than bannerknights (if not using their jav). Best cav are Cataphracts and Druzhinic champion.
Dunno, in my company BIGGEST threat is Sturgia. Their 300 troops literally can DESTROY 600 vladians. I tried everything I can, but we just cant fight Sturgia in 1:1 scale army
Probably because the vlandians dont have any good ranged units. Archers have more dps than crossbowmen, and when facing a lot of shock infantry that matters a lot. Also, the sturgian infantry is bad so they dont match them at close range. And cav is generally weak in bannelord all around
Not me using this infomation to Absolutely Crush the Vlandians next game, they have become too strong, we (West) declare war and they Stroll down their Coast with 3 armies, 2 of them 1k each with 500, with a combined total of prolly 1500 Horse dudes alone, they walk in, Capture all our Nobles, then take our money 4 peace. they Own half of the Map down to the Western Chokepoint into Aserai lands!
For everyone who see this just know that vlandia's infantry is the worst in the game. The voulgier (if that's how you spell it) is actually the best shock infantry in the game but vlandia dosent have the greatest shield infantry to protect them so I'd leave them. I would recommend mass crossbowmen and cavalry. The non noble cav line is meh but they arnt bad at all and perform similar to all but the khuzait normal cav lines who are the best with the heavy lancer People say the bannerknight isn't great but it is the 3rd best in the game but is the best when it comes to cycle charging with their destrier and high riding and polearm so have your crossbows in front and split your cav into 2 formation and cycle charge the sides. IF their infantry gets to your crossbowmen put them in shield wall and charge. The sharpshooter is just as good in melee as the Sargent. Do this and you will always win against similar sized armies. he was wrong about the armour Vlandian infantry is under armoured in comparison so other factions
Vlandian Strengths: Yes Vlandian Weaknesses: No They’re Swadia+Rhodoks and it’s ridiculous on its face the heaviest anticav and heaviest cav are in the same faction. Most OVERly annoying faction POWERED by combining two of the main old factions. Everybody is well armoured, everybody has decent weapons, every role is good. I can only assume the intention was Vlandian units are supposed to be expensive to compensate but 1. The AI ignores the economy entirely and 2. So do players.
The Elite Cataphract's biggest weakness is their inability to couch, my opinion is that the Cataphracts have the better armor, but the Vlandians deal far more damage in the charge, so it depends on strategy, in a slugfest the Cataphracts win, but in a proper field battle the Knights would perform better given the right circumstances
Best armour in game? Really? You're troops are the weakest with chainmail shirts and no scale or lamellar. Yes you can get good armour and helmets, but the sergeants are rubbish and vouglier have been nerfed. The vanguard also feels like a waste.
@@INFJ-ThaneTr crossbowmen and bannerknights is a brutal combo. The bannerknight is still the best cav in the game when charging so cycling them is a must and if you hit them in the flank while your crossbows are hitting the enemy it's a win for you and even if they get in the sharpshooter is still just as good as the sergeant in melee

@@thorodinson2477 Alright, good question. Why I think Liena is terrible is because of her overall profit of marrying her. About her stats, it's nice and all but they're all for rulers/head of clans. Yeah, so it's pretty average in stats. Her traits are nice, but there are many alternatives in armour. Her armour is absolutely terrible with a value of (140), which has a way lower value than, for example, Svana (175). Let's say they're the same value, the clan strength of Vagiroving is far higher than dey Tihr. Liena being terrible is also because of her being overrated. @@matiascandia4946 it takes about 5 seconds to do in all 1, F4 wait a second 2, F4 wait a second 3, F4 wait a second 4, F4, now go about ya business
As a Battania Vassal with many Vlandian fiefs the only thing my banner knights fear is a death wall of sturgians
Nice work! Hoping for Aserai next!
I haven't figured out the order yet, for sure, but i plan to do one for each faction.
Literally the only vlandia unit worth it but still meh
@@INFJ-ThaneTr I agree. If Fian's weren't so ridiculously OP then Sharpshooter's would be a lot better. And I really do like the Shieldwall options with these guys, I think it takes a little more effort to get more out of them, but it's worth it.
Bro shield units are not even worth after release empire menavliatons and fian champions just one shot every unit in game in close range and ai cant use archers effectively so it is kinda useless to use any shielded troop let alone a shielded missile troop sacrificing 20 more ammuniton for a shield doesnt really help
You're right, i should have further emphasized the importance of the Sharpshooter in the grand Vlandian strategy.
I have had very experienced playthroughs as the Vlandians. I find the only major weakness to be the lack of horse archers.
Yeah, it does drag down their skirmishing ability. Only a major weakness against Khuzaits and Aserai, as the Imperial Horse archers aren't nearly as good.
- overrated cav
- ineffective ranged troops
- no good infantry (except for voulgiers)
- worst ruler governing
- worst marriage prospects (liena is a joke)
@@DestroyerOfOgis no svanna either
@@Boryang. Exactly. Vlandia has no Svana, so it automatically makes them lose.
@@DestroyerOfOgis I always liked Silvind, but I usually marry Corein 👀
The options are high tier first, lower tier first, a nice mix (so you get a spread of infantry, ranged, cav and horse archers) and you can also choose for your troop order to be based on your party list (so the units at the top get sent in first)
I started off with the Vlandians with the intent to break off from them eventually to form the Rhodoks
I wish upgrading troops depended more on resources. Like you need access to smithies to get the highest tier armored units.
A great video to get at work thxs 🙏 can we get battania next pls?
I haven't determined the order i will do them in, because of how long it takes to do all the testing, but i will do Battania soon. I plan to do each faction.
@@Dare_To_Game Cool! take your time.
I feel like whoever I play as has the best troops, maybe player boosts just make it that way, only troop ever to absolutely melt everything is the fian champion, especially if they got awesome archer captains on top
you sound like jordan peterson lmao! i love it
Where the hell do you find the brigadine armour can’t find it anywhere
Do the infantry pull out there pole arms by their self?
Switch to a different faction, or create an army and do the job yourself
I only use Vlandia sergeant and one or more always die and sometimes no one else go down or die but always on of them
great video but i dont agree with saying that they are the best heavy cav in the game. Yes they are more deadly because of councing lance however they also kinda die very easily compared to cataprats or even khuzait heavy lancer so its kind of a glass cannon
How did you get 827 army size?!
Subjective impressions cannot match against real data and tests. For now only LyonExodus and Stratgaming did it properly.
Heavy cavalry all the way. If you are a true Vlandian, you know this.
You know it. Nothing beats Vlandian Heavy cavalry for charge and break formations.
Druzhinnik Champions are far better
The main thing about Vlandian crossbowmen is their pavise. IRL, crossbowmen would literally plant them on the ground and use them as mobile cover. That's not a thing in this game, defeating the entire purpose of a pavise.
Most vlandian troops are pretty A tier, but again, they don't have any that stand to an S tier, like Fian Champions or Khan's Guard, or Legionary.
So hard to not use battanian archers 😅
How do I know what is from each nation
If the unit has Vlandia in its name, its vlandian. If it has battanian in its name, its battanian. Same for every other culture
I found that vlandia is the best if you control them and not just charge
Especially with sturgian infantry with them
I wish the vlandians were better, I love their style but they have little that makes them stand out from others besides their sharpshooters. Imperial sturgian and surprisingly aserai infantry and cav are just better. Voulgiers are pretty neat though
Edit: they do have a pretty good starting position and fiefs well protected on the insides with specific passes and channels into their territory that limits other factions advances on the outskirts, except maybe Charas.
@@RovalisGTO Well yeah duh... They are shock cavalary, so it would be just stupid to use them as melee cavalry.
Inappropriate difficulty level?
Pretty much all of the cavalry have couched lances. Not just the Vlandians
Weaknesses?
These guys are only difficult if their economy is strong, bleed their coffers, their deadly cav units stop showing up on the field. Without that? They aren't so bad.
FOR VLANDIA!
As Vlandian I employ Bucellarii as Cav-Archers.
Why would an Imperial elite unit fight for me ?
Because I give them even more biscuits !
Imperial biscuits 😭
Vlandian banner knight are the third best cavalry in the game and they cannot beat empire cataphracts with horse or without horse.
That's in a vacuum but this game is never in a vacuum. An army of 40 bannerknights and 60 sharpshooters will beat every army that's around their army size easily and the crossbows and bannerknights support each other very well. The sharpshooter is just as good as the sergeant in melee
@@Deathelement53 bro unless you micro and like go circles around the elite menavliatons while the sharpshooters shoot, you aint never beating an army of 100 elite menavliaton any time of the day
@@erenhocaoglu8920 ??? How the fuck they gonna beat crossbows they would die before they get to you. The only way your losing this is if you just charge them. If it's a mix force like it would actually be then the same tactics apply.
@@Deathelement53 I just tried it in an open battle.
Exactly, Vlandia is just overrated

Pro: Medieval Roleplay.
Con: You’re French.
Is there a way to put specific troops in certain formations?
Fians and Banner Knights = World conquest
The non noble cav line is meh but they arnt bad at all and perform similar to all but the khuzait normal cav lines who are the best with the heavy lancer
People say the bannerknight isn't great but it is the 3rd best in the game but is the best when it comes to cycle charging with their destrier and high riding and polearm so have your crossbows in front and split your cav into 2 formation and cycle charge the sides. IF their infantry gets to your crossbowmen put them in shield wall and charge. The sharpshooter is just as good in melee as the Sargent. Do this and you will always win against similar sized armies.
he was wrong about the armour
Vlandian infantry is under armoured in comparison so other factions
Ernie is that you
So they’re basically medieval Frenchmen
Vlandian Strengths: Yes
Vlandian Weaknesses: No
They’re Swadia+Rhodoks and it’s ridiculous on its face the heaviest anticav and heaviest cav are in the same faction.
The elite cataphract is way better than any other cav unit in the game btw not banner knight lol
Couching isn't unique to Vlandia. Some of the Strurgian, Aserai, and Khuzait units can do it as well.
Vlandia couquered 1/5s of the map in 5 years...... I dint even help them
Best armour in game? Really? You're troops are the weakest with chainmail shirts and no scale or lamellar. Yes you can get good armour and helmets, but the sergeants are rubbish and vouglier have been nerfed. The vanguard also feels like a waste.
At least the crossbowmen are decent, when your entire armor is them.
Absolutely, Sturgia has the best armour. Hence the comparison for Svana's (175) and Liena's (140) armour.
I should have been more specific, i was reffering to the top tier Lord armor, the Coat of plates over chainmail. It is the single best in class armor piece in the game. I didn't mean the average troops armor.
- the Aserai are the most nerfed and weak faction in the game. Bar none the worst. Need to be majorly buffed across the board. It's obvious on every level.

Vlandia weaknesses:
- Extremely overrated cav
- No good infantry other than Voulgier

- Liena (she's absolutely terrible)
Why is Liena terrible? I almost always marry her. Please explain so maybe I don't marry her in the future
And about Liena's clan, the only good thing about them is that they control Pravend. Svana's clan, however, controls Tyal. Let's say they're the same value, the clan strength of Vagiroving is far higher than dey Tihr. Liena being terrible is also because of her being overrated. She has many stats your marriage prospect won't need, and in my opinion she is heavily overrated like everything in Vlandia. I will respect your opinion, but for me, they added so many unnecessary stats for rulers stats, when she's going to join you after all, cutting off a massive point value from her armour. You can change your opinion anytime and mine is clear: Liena is overrated.
@@DestroyerOfOgis she is an excellent governor, marry her, get her pregnant, she has nice traits and skills for an heir, let her rule the lands with ease of mind and also get her armor and weapons, she is the best imo lol
@@orbit1894 1. We're basically forcefully emptying the pockets of your townspeople so yeah, towns are just that.

I respect your opinion but in my opinion, Svana is what enters the status of "underrated" and Liena is the biggest joke in Bannerlord history. (Again, I respect your opinion)
