Love packing cubes! Although I am not a van lifer, I do fly to my sisters in Florida every winter for about 2 months and since I've started using cubes I can fit twice as many clothes in my luggage. I go only half full and leave room for when we go shopping. Also leaves only one bag to go in regular check in and one overhead bag. Makes it cheaper to fly and less bags to keep track of! I've also been known to wear a couple of layers of clothes on the way home just in case I buy too much! LOL! Great video! Thanks!

So many clothes! I didn't have that many when I lived in a house😂
Now I'm in a van all my stuff fits into 5 clothing cubes half the size you have, except for a warm jacket, jersey, sweat top and 1pr jeans.
I have 1 pr good shoes, I pr sneakers, I pr jandels (kiwi for flip flops) and a pr gum boots for muddy days, oh and one going out dress.
Of course I do have a million prs of undies, enough for 3 weeks in case I run too low on water to wash.
I find the bulkiest and most annoying things to store are shoes (not to mention smelly in a cupboard) so I pared right back on those.
I wish someone would make a totally reversible wardrobe for vanners, then I could have double the choices. 🤔.... maybe I should start it.

I discovered the wonders of packing cubes, first just small laundry bags that actually squish up better, when doing solo, low budget travel in China also Thailand/Vietnam) a few times. Also lots of socks! Family thought I was crazy buying 20 pairs of white ankle socks. When they get really worn out or beyond cleaning I use them for rags. Heck, I. A pinch a pair of scissors can turn an ankle sock into a mask!

A great way to store clothing in a small space ... or anywhere really. I do the same thing. I save all those plastic zippered packages that comforters, blankets and sheets come in to store clothing and keep them under the bed. One question, do you have an iron in the van 😉?
No iron in this van. A quick hand press to flatten the wrinkles and we're off. haha

It was great to see you guys again. What this show helped me with is I’m wrapping up my van build here in Maine this weekend and going to pack. Rolling up the clothes looks like a space saver. I’ll be on west coast around the end of October if all goes well. Maybe we will meet up one day. Thanks for the tips. If you’re going on a ship ? Maybe not see you for awhile. I know I am a month late- but if no one has told you yet... standard sized postcards only cost a fraction of the price to send as a normal piece of mail. You're paying more for a Forever stamp than if you bought a sheet of postcard ones- .55 compared to .35 cents. =)

This couldn't have been a more perfect video for me. It's raining (finally)in TN.so I'm doing exactly the same. Yesterday I thinned down dog stuff that wasn't getting used any longer or unwanted toys. Dogs are like kids just take to certain toys so I thinned those down alot. Collars and leads I'm gonna rethink. I may take in another that could wear. Perfectly good shape and still surprisingly clean. Today it's my mess. Shoes boots flip flops and purses. By law I should be fined. Nobody should own this many and I haven't even got to sandals or sneakers yet. I sorted out all my bath towels and throw blankets. Those never waste as I use them for my dog collection. Lol. You two please no I love them all,I just had to use humor. I'm going nuts trapped 2 days in house(been raining). I'm usuing my time wisely. I use to stay organized and downsize by having yard sales. I haven't had one in past 7 to 8 years and it's showing. Plus the extra money will help w the newest largest dog(lol,it's a horse). Hay cost alot and my family bales hay and would I'm guessing donate me some but (always a but)... It's round bales they are huge. I'm just going to go buy some square bales so I can handle those myself feeding. So a yard or garage sale is needed. I'm about to be considered a hoarder,I'm sure of it. Brittany looked sad to let her sun visor go. I no the feeling. So next time something you really want to keep. Reincorporate it into something smaler. Like removering the labels adding to a plain hoodie. My friends live in an RV. She does this. Or make one pillow case with tags off old shoes, shirts she takes material from clothes hard to part with and recovers the strings in her hoodie or sews fabric to her pillow case. It's still downsizing but you still have apart of your memories. She isn't on TH-cam but she should be. She is an older lady with a lifetime of memories taking no space up at all. A pillow that just lays on her bed for looks. Beautiful but it's her old hiking gear tags or fabric. A hoodie with shoestring bottom from old hiking boots,plus keeps wind from going up your shirt. One more item can't think of what it is. Anyway 3 small items have lifetime full of memories,plus it doesn't tear up what it was removed from. Ok I had a fun break w you two. Now it's back at the totes. Gotta get cleaned up and organized. Winter is coming. Burrrrr! I don't like cold. Be safe,stay healthy and happy. Bye just for now.

Those are some creative items made by your friend. We see the items as treasures, but feel renewed letting them go. If you really need the memory to be tangible and are getting rid of it, consider getting a polaroid camera (amzn.to/3mPdi1V) and taking a pic to two.
Great idea. I have my old one plus my lil sister has one but the photos are stamp size. I don't remember the name. I can't find film for either. I guess I could purchase one up to date and some film. Be handy for dogs that get turned in. I could snap the pic,find the owners that much faster. You two,thanks tons. Why have I not thought of that. I'm not really into hanging on to material items. Sentimental maybe,but small(easier) items mostly. I just pack in a tote. Now my friend,she had 3 children so she even keeps tags off their baby clothes and her grandchildrens as well. Shew wee that's alot to keep up with. Oops, I hope she doesn't read this,as I have told her about you 2. Lol

Super helpful video as my husband and I transition from selling our house to vanlife and maybe tiny cabin in the woods life. We only have one cabinet each in the van for clothes...yikes, hopefully we can make some space under our bench seat for off season clothes.

Everything is based on priorities of the moment and things today will be different in five years and then different again in another five. But a good pair of shoes or other type of kit could go almost a lifetime.
BTW the woodpecker sound effects timing was spot on to the video. Care to share any tips on how to do that? I still struggle with syncing the two :-(
You're very right! We keep what is useful and wear the heck out of it till it needs an upgrade or can no longer do the job. Glad you enjoyed the woodpecker sound. We recommend good headphones to really listen in deeply. Detach the audio and move it to the best spot that matches the footage. 😀

You wouldnt believe how much space you save when you military roll your Tshirts, underwear, and shorts. The only thing that's hard for me to roll is my few pairs of Jean's. Those just regular role.

Goodwill is not a nonprofit business!!! The owners pays hardly anything and sticks all the profits in his own pocket. If you give give to the Salvation Army a true nonprofit!!
The Goodwill use to do great things. Now you are speaking the exact truth. I have a small thrift store(well2)in my TN.hometown. Ruth's she helps the veterans of war. The other I'm not sure of store name but the lady is Christine She helps families who have lost job or homes to fires. Also has a drawing for free food once a month. She also runs a food pantry from her thrift store. Two wonderful wemon. I actually can see the good those two do.
Goodwill is a nonprofit and they do lots of good things for the people and communities they serve. They are big, like Red Cross and they do overshadow smaller nonprofits doing similar work. Donors decide which organizations to support and should do their research. There are small and large nonprofits that don’t spend their donations wisely. So do your research and decide for yourself.
