(Sinhala: මීගමුව, romanized: Mīgamuva, Tamil: நீர்கொழும்பு, romanized: Nīrkoḻumpu) is a major city in Sri Lanka, situated on the west coast and at the mouth of the Negombo Lagoon, in the Western Province, 38 km (24 mi) from Colombo via the Colombo-Katunayake Expressway and the nearest major city from the Bandaranaike International Airport (About 9 km distance).
Negombo is one of the major commercial hubs in the country and the administrative centre of Negombo Division. Negombo has a population of about 142,136 within its divisional secretariat division. Negombo municipal boundary is fully extended throughout its Divisional Secretariat area.
Negombo is known for its long sandy beaches and centuries old fishing industry. Negombo has a large bilingual (Sinhala/Tamil) population with a clear Roman Catholic majority.
The shallow waters of the Negombo Lagoon provided safe shelter for seafaring vessels and became one of the key ports along with Kalpitiya, Puttalam, Colombo, Kalutara and Galle, from which the Sri Lankan kingdoms conducted external trade.
Negombo is considered one of the largest economic centres of the country. Negombo is about 4-5 km (2.5-3.1 mi) from the Bandaranaike International Airport, and the free trade zone. Negombo has a moderate port (used during the periods of Portuguese and Dutch colonisation)
The economy of Negombo is mainly based on tourism and its centuries-old fishing industry, though it also produces cinnamon, ceramics, and brass ware.
The Colombo Stock Exchange-Negombo branch and many major financial corporations have their key branches in Negombo. There are department stores, large supermarkets, and boutiques in the bustling streets of Downtown Negombo and international food outlets are being opened.

Hello Kay and Gogo, It was nice to see in your video at 17:59 / 24:11 that you both enjoyed a cheese kottu with tomato sauce. Growing up as kids in Sri Lanka I cannot remember hearing Sri Lankans order cheese kottu or eat kottu with tomato sauce. However as long as one enjoys it that is what matters. 😊 I have noticed in TH-cam videos Cheese Kottu being popular among foreign tourists who visit Sri Lanka. Growing up as kids we typically used to order as Plain Kottu (it will have egg and vegetables in it) , mus (මස්) kottu which means meat kottu (can be either Beef, Chicken, Pork etc) and malu (මාළු) Kottu which means Fish Kottu. Traditionally if you order a Meat Kottu or Fish Kottu the gravy (curry) will be added when making it, and also they will provide in a separate bag more curry (beef, chicken, pork, fish etc with curry/gravy). If you order a Kottu in an eatery that is done by ethnic Muslim Sri Lankan community (usually these eateries will be called "hotel de" or "hotel" and has a given name, for example named such aa Hotel De Pilawoos, Hotel De Buhari , Raheema Hotel etc ) it will be halal and you will not find Pork Kottu. However there are places in Sri Lanka where one can order a Pork Kottu as well. Among all Sri Lankan Kottu, my favourite is Pork (ඌරුමස්) Kottu. When eating Kottu instead of adding tomato sauce Sri Lankans add more spice gravy (meat or fish curry) to the Kottu, but possibly many foreign tourists in Sri Lanka might instead prefer tomato sauce. 😊
Hello 👋
It really was so great
We tried chicken kottu also I'm Colombo on our first vlog. I imagine with a gravy it's even better 😌 😋
The only meat we don't eat is pork but everything else Gogo eats.
Have a wonderful weekend 😀

Hello Kay and Gogo, It was a nice introduction that is done at 13:51 / 24:11 about the many number of Roman Catholic Churches that are found in Negombo, Sri Lanka, and at 14:13 / 24:11 the St. Sebastian's Church, Wellaweediya Roman Catholic church in Negombo, Sri Lanka can be seen in your video (located on Sea Street in Colombo or in Sinhala the road is called Wellaweediya ). Possibly you both might have heard that Locals call Negombo as "Little Rome" as the town is most full of the images of the Christianity in Sri Lankan and has a lot of churches for the size of the town, as so many Roman Catholics live in Negombo. Hope you both got the chance to visit and see many of the Roman Catholic churches in Negombo, Sri Lanka.
We didn't know it was called Little Rome
It's so wonderful we loved the outside services so beautiful 😍
Your stay in srilanka has done a world of good to you. Now both of you look like school going kids. Srilanka, here I come.
Thanks so much

Yes it looks amazing on you Gogo

Hello Kay and Gogo, At 5:10 / 24:11 i the video you mention that you taste Anchovy in the chickpeas preparation. Most likely you did not eat Anchovy , but possibly had a bite of added Maldives Fish that is called Umbalakada (written in Sinhala as උම්බලකඩ). Maldives fish know in Sri Lanka as Umbalakada (උම්බලකඩ) is cured tuna traditionally produced in Maldives, which is made in Sri Lanka as well. I haven't heard of people adding Anchovy to the chickpeas preparation you had which is tempered chickpeas (Sri Lankan Spiced Chickpeas ) , In the Sinhala language Chickpeas it is called Kadala (කඩල) and for Tempered in Sinhala is called Themperaduwa (තෙම්පරාදුව). While Tempered Chickpeas in Sinhala language is called Kadala Themparaduwa ( කඩල තෙම්පරාදුව). Glad you enjoyed the Sri Lankan Spiced Chickpeas (Kadala Themparaduwa / කඩල තෙම්පරාදුව).
Thank you so much for the information ☺️ 😊

I don't think they add anchovies in that chickpea dish, i could be wrong not as far as im awares😊
There was strong taste of anchovies in that
@@KayandGogo really?
@@KayandGogo Check my added comments for this video where I have also mentioned what you possibly might have eaten with the chickpeas preparation that you thought you tasted something like Anchovy (but most likely not Anchovy which may have tasted fish). Enjoy reading the comments I added under this TH-cam video and hope they will interest you both. 😊
Thank you so much 💓
Sri lankans are used to sell their old books to shops to get some money.. so they make paper bags from them 😂😂
That’s a very clever idea
