One of my all time favorite comedies. Loaded with memorable gags, personality and hilarity. Saw it last year after missing it for a decade or two, and it’s still funny.
I've watched it several times, and every time I had a good time and many laughs. Maybe it's not an Oscar-winner but that qualifies as a "good movie" for me.
Yet another instance where critics got it wrong. Hilarious movie. Some of the favorite clips are still hilarious even having seen them a gazillion times.
People dwell on the times they disagree with critics. This is both childish and unnecessary. You're not always going to agree with them, and that's fine. It doesn't invalidate film critics or film criticism in general.
@@jimmaleski5916 My point is they unnecessarily let the opinions of critics sour their opinions of the critics themselves and film criticism, generally. I think a lot of people tend to get offended and feel insulted when someone criticizes something they happen to like, even if the criticism is warranted, and can also lead to them missing out on hearty agreements with, and insights derived from, critics they might discover otherwise.
Believe me there are loads more that are even funnier these guys were total killjoys still it never harmed the films they tore apart from being successful and hits
Wow, people are harsh. I love Three Amigos. I even have it on blu-ray. But I'm not gonna hate or lose any respect for the top film critics of the time. You don't need to crap on someone just because they disagree with you.
what makes those two dead fuckers so special as critics? they're just people with opinions like you and me. and opinions are like ass holes...everybody has one and they all stink!
happy543210 Just because everyone has an opinion, it doesn't mean there is value in insulting a person who disagrees with you. It just makes you seem petty and unable to deal with people.
I was 21 years old in the United States Air Force and had just got stationed in Phoenix Arizona in June of 85. I finally went to Old Tucson with Friends in early '86 and then this movie came out my point is the nostalgia is so strong about this movie and even if it was as bad as they were saying it would be good 😁
We had this movie on VHS when we were kids we thought it was great but we were also under 10. Now as an adult I still enjoy the movie but I do see more of it's flaws. It'll still be a part of my childhood so I think I'll always like the movie.
How could they possibly not like the great Three Amigos? I hate all movies, but even I love that one. They completely blew this review. A light hearted comedy and it's hilarious. What more did they want?
They were ridiculous. Along with not liking Three Amigos, other comedies they didn’t like were Christmas Vacation, Home Alone, Better Off Dead, Ebert didn’t like The Jerk My Cousin Vinny, or Mrs. Doubtfire, & Siskel didn’t like What About Bob or Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
Disagree as we might with Siskel and Ebert, you have to acknowledge that it's probably nostalgia and having grown up with the movie that contributes to what love we have for this goofy flick. It's not perfect, not by a longshot, but it's fun all the same.
I don't think nostalgia is what makes it funny. I want to say paying into the various stereotypes, the pratfalls, and specific dialogues are the keys to it's greatness, but I can't really say that either. Martin Short's monologue on how they can't go back to Hollywood, and they should be the heroes in real life that they play in the movies was impressive, but not necessarily funny.
They've liked plenty of silly, light-hearted films. I haven't seen Three Amigos, so I can't say whether it's good or not, but they understood that there is a place for both the Star Wars and the Raging Bulls.
Was never crazy about the Amigos but it's still highly quotable. And much like with Airplane, at like 10 I had no idea what they were parodying but still laughed my ass off.
One of my favorite movies. It's a shame they didn't like it. I hardly ever see either of them agree with a thumbs up when it comes to comedies. Oh well.
I knew that they did not like this movie, but imagine my surprise when the other day, I saw them put it on their Worst of 1986 list. Three Amigos is one of my favorite movies. Even if Chevy Chase does not do much, I would recommend it just for Steve and Marty alone.
What the hell are you guys talking about?? What movie did ya'll watch? Three Amigos has a very good storyline. Great characters. Very good funny as hell movie. 5 out of 5 stars.
I think this is one of the instances where they completely miss, judged the audience. They felt like we couldn’t get the subtleties of the comedy and the direction. But, that’s part of the charm. That’s why the movie is timeless, and funny with all ages. My grandfather enjoyed it as much as my son does. Not everything needs to be Jim Carrey in your face.
My brothers and I have entire conversations using only quotes from Three Amigos. Any time a gift is given, someone says “It’s a sweater!!!” When someone is trying to get another’s attention, it’s “Look-up-here, look-up-here, CAW!!! CAW!!!” When we’re eating, “Do you guys anything besides Mexican food?” When asking about another’s new love interest, “When is she going to open her petals to you?” Then a reply of “Tonight. Or I’ll KILL HER!!!” When ordering drinks, “Isss like beer.” “Okay, three tequilas (then recoil spastically)”. When shit starts to pop off, “You guys stay out of trouble, ok? Heh heh”, and finally, when saying goodnight or see you later, it’s a round of “Goodnight Ned.” Sometimes we just randomly do the chants to summon the invisible swordsmen, just because they’re funny noises. If you don’t like this movie, what’s your fucking deal bro? Sorry about your life and God giving you a shit sense of humor. I can only imagine what hokey, hacky crap makes you laugh.
I've always loved this movie. It's interesting to hear them suggesting Martin Short's style doesn't work well with Steve Martin's, considering they've frequently worked together since then, and with the current and fantastic Only Murders In The Building possibly being their crowning achievement.
I love Siskel and Ebert but wow did they miss the mark on this one. THREE AMIGOS is a beloved comedy classic and I've never heard anyone til this review say a single negative thing about it

Apart from silver hair, he doesn't look old in 3 amigos. He still looks incredibly well for his current age.
