Isn’t special taking less talented players and beating better teams?
This narrative is so dumb. The ducks got shredded against a really good team who they had already beaten earlier in the season. One bad game doesn't mean anything in the big scheme of things.
@Heeezy33 yeah you know that's not even close to all the variables but okay be dumb to suit your own narrative. Typical OSU fan. When you beat Michigan like Oregon did in their stadium maybe you can talk 🤣🤣🤡
He’s still young coach still learning but if you look at the three years he coaching it just keeps getting better and better 13-1 It’s pretty good for a third year. I think Dan is doing an awesome job at Oregon.
Yeah, you'll be back, with another great regular season paid for by Phil Knight and enhanced by the NIL and the transfer portal. But like all Oregon teams, especially those under Dan Lanning, the Ducks won't be prepared to play other elite teams and yet another season will end in embarrassing disappointment. Wash, rinse, repeat.
I love Lanning and all he brings. Stein got badly outcoached in the PAC12CG last year putting us in a huge early hole…couldn’t recover such a huge deficit and ended up losing by 3. Huge improvement for him this year! However… All of our coaches got badly outcoached in the Rose Bowl playoff game. It was as disappointing and embarrassing of a loss as I can remember over 30+ years as a Duck fan. Still thrilled Dan is our coach and wouldn’t want anyone else! Dan will continue to improve, learn and grow. Lest we not forget that the same coaches got the best of Ohio Stat’s coaches in the first meeting. Just hurts a lot more when you lose, and that badly, on a much bigger stage for the rematch. The present and future are insanely bright in Eugene…🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆
The most embarrassing loss was when the Beavers didnt throw a pass in the 4th Quater and still erased a 14 point deficit to win the game. Hard way to end probably the greatest season ever, but y'all crazy sometimes.
A C-please fine the number one team in the history of college football that lost a bowl game or hell win a bowl game after having gone down 34-O before halftime. I don’t know the search engine to check, but I will reckon none exists. This will be a big first!!! 2024 Oregon Ducks historical performance in the 2025 Rose Bowl. Be sure and wear your gear for the game proudly at the Home Opener!
absolutely THRILLED Oregon went 13-0 and manhandled the B!G for an undefeated season. Playoffs was another story. They in turn got outcoached. But, seriously, it's only been 1 year in the B!G. It's 3-5 years IMO.
One loss doesn’t define Lanning as a coach and Oregon as a program. A lot of people didn’t think Oregon would win the Big Ten let alone beat Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State all in the same year
Oregon had too much time off and played their worst game of the year by far. Ohio state came in on fire and angry and played their best game of the year. That's cfb. If that game was played a few weeks earlier, Oregon could have won by 20 as well. It is what it is. Oregon and Lanning will be fine moving forward. I'm not worried at all. Still love this team and our coaches. GO DUCKS! FEBU!!!!
I’m not sure it’s a Top Five program this year or next. This year for sure Top Ten. Next year-totally suspect until about 4 or 5 games into the Big Ten schedule.
@@CitdRodda part of that was the ridiculous formatting they used this year. ASU and Boise had byes while Oregon had to play the winner of OSU and Tennessee in the 2nd round which made no sense. they got punished for winning out while Penn State got to play SMU and Boise for losing the Big10 championship. hopefully they'll fix it next season
Oregon is going to be fine.. Dan just has 1 issue, and it's the Big Big game. He's gotta get his guys up and ready to play each and every game, which is the hardest thing to do as a coach.. He can clearly do it they just sputtered at the wrong time. They played what 13 straight games and showed up for all 13, give him another 2 years, and Oregon will be in National title Contention.
Washington fan here. With NIL on the rise Oregon is in the prime position win their first national title, with the financial backing of one of the largest athletic brands in sports and a blank check NIL Budget they'll attract all the transfers and recruits they'll need and Lanning has the fortunate position of all those resources and little of the pressure. Bama/OSU a conference/national title is the expectation while for Oregon a title is the desire. I hate to admit it but it won't shock me if Oregon wins a title in the next 5-10 years. I'm just glad that it only took the complete destruction of the balance of college football to do it for them
I was at that game. Ohio State was firing on all cylinders like they've been there before. Oregon came out of the gate like this was just another game. Surprise Surprise they found out what Big10 football is all about. Not saying that Oregon didn't have a great year they just didn't kick it up a notch like they should of. We'll be back and learn from this. The Ohio State fans were awesome and I can't wait to see a game at the shoe. Good job Ohio and get the title this year.
Exactly. Perspective. Everyone was up in arms Oregon lost 3 games in a row to Keln DeBoer by 3 points each. The college HC experience gap was 1 to 16 years and 2 years to 17 in the second year.
Ducks fan and much respect to Ohio state for beating us that easily, I don’t see Oregon winning the natty next year but 2027 and 2028 I think is the ducks best chance yet and I would say they will seize the moment in 2028
Dude is only 38 and went undefeated in a new conference… the program is trending up and we’ve gotten better and better every year since he took over. The future seems bright but we will see.
I go see all the Marvel movies with my son, and we've talked about if the franchise is dead. My answer is always so what if it is, look at how high they got, hardly any franchises will reach what Marvel was at its height, Marvel probably cant even do it again. That's how I feel about guys like Saban at Bama or what the Patriots were under Belichick. They reached heights that aren't normal that aren't the standard and if that's what you compare yourself too you'll always be disappointed. Oregon is right in the mix, and nobody would be shocked if they won one.....but if they do, their fans should cherish it, because for most of the normal world they don't come easy.
Chip Kelly knows how to get teams ready to execute at a high level at kickoff, but I think it comes at the price of many reps. It would be great to have CK back as OC and Helfritch as a quarterback coach.
Oregon is fine, Lanning is fine. The future so bright you need some sunglasses out there in the PNW. B1G champion first year, perfect regular season in the first year in the conference. Things look good.
If the play offs were 4 teams Oregon wins the natty. This is showing how no other national championships count anymore. This is the first year we will have a real champion
I like how you see his potential for both. He needs to do better in these Big Games. I feel confident in writing this-it’s not been good enough to justify too many more big losses. He is good, waiting for great.
Oregon should have had the easiest path to the title game. Just like any other sports #1 seed. Instead they had to face the hottest team right away. Eventually, they do have to play a top dawg. But they should have been in the Title game or at least the semis.
No one knows the easiest path-that’s why teams prepare and work hard for the path that is in front of them. Sounds like something Lanning might say, not what you wrote
Oregon fans, myself included, are damaged. We’ve been on the brink a bunch of times and lost close games. Other times we’ve had QB injuries that sidelined our seasons when we’ve been rolling. There’ve been questionable calls in National Championship games (looking at you Auburn) and seasons that were promising till they were absolutely botched by awful coaching prior to Coach Lanning. We’ve been left at the alter by coaches that professed their undying love. We may have the worst National Championship PTSD of any program in college football. The good news is we’ll keep showing up. We’ll scream our heads off and stand up and cheer even when our team is getting blown out and the Ohio State fans around us at the Rose Bowl complain about us being too loud (real world example). If we get beat we’ll tip our caps, not make excuses or try to get rules changed. We’ll put our trust in Dan Lanning and his staff to get us over the hump and pray that they keeping thinking the grass is damn green in Eugene. FEBU!
@ you’ve got that backwards. Phil didn’t show up until Rich Brooks and Mike Belotti turned the program around. Maybe get your info straight before sounding like the casual you are. And Uncle Phil has made it clear that Oregon will have an endowment that will take care of the program after he’s gone. The Ducks are here to stay. Better get used to it.
Absolutely. CFB was way different during Brooks and Bellotti. Brooks built the potential, but some things in place and Bellotti started the spark. It’s been wild and many times unpleasant experience. Like camping in the rain, the fire is going, but heavily disappointed the Ducks can’t find the way to win the National Title and grateful for Phil Knight money because the game has gone this way and I couldn’t blame the best talent for choosing a Blue Blood over Eugene and Oregon, but we shall see. We shall see. I am less motivated today then yesterday and I wonder if the fire will go out, we shall see. Phil Knight will definitely be key at this point. These are professional teams now with millionaires playing against millionaires, not potential millionaires playing against potential millionaires. I would love to watch a video or podcast that discusses the money of CFB.
My biggest question is…. Is Tosh Lupoi the Defensive Coordinator to get the job done?? He seems to fall apart and be out coached in the big moments. Three seasons ago when Oregon state beat the ducks he was out coached, last season out coached twice against Washington, this season nearly out coached against Boise state, Ohio State and Penn State Ducks won those games but his defense didn’t look great. Then was severely out coached in the Rose bowl. Dude falls apart in big moments. I don’t believe he is the man to get the job done. But I don’t know who would be.
The Ducks ran onto a buzz saw and weren't ready to play after too much time off. Props to Ohio State for thoroughly outplaying them that game, but Lanning isn't going anywhere.
honestly forget Phil Knight, it'll take a miracle if they win the natty in my lifetime and I'm in my 30s. Seems like the same broken record every year - choking in the biggest moment.
@@benlong4594 It's not necessarily choking every year. Objectively, with their staff and talent, OSU should have won. I think there's just always going to be a slight advantage for one or more of the traditional blue bloods over Oregon any given year.
I would like to know which Conference would get paid for an Oregon appearance in the 2025 Cotton Bowl. My understanding is that it was the PAC 12 that was paid for Oregon’s 2025 appearance in the Rose Bowl. The Oregon Ducks most definitely participated 🏆
I always think of Tom Osborne. Couldn't win the big one, always choked, had two decades to prove himself and he just didn't have it in him. Then won 3 national championships in 4 years. Different time obviously in which programs don't have that kind of patience now but still, doesn't happen right away so don't be so impatient either.
dan lanning is the best coach in college football. He kills in recruiting because he's just a great guy people want to be around. He knows how to fire up his guys and is super creative with his play calling. Did he get destroyed by ohio st? Yes, but I don't know if 2019 LSU woul've beat that ohio st team that day. They played literally perfectly. I mean oregon has a top 10 run game in the country and ended with negative rushing yards. That doesn't mean he's a bad coach, his guys just got outplayed.
In 3 years to be this good Lanning is the guy for Oregon, if you want him out you shouldn’t be a fan, you will not build a dynasty that fast, Ohio states entire team is in their 4th and 5th year together that’s not just coaching
I’m not, that coaching trio at OSU is one of the best you will ever see, Oregons coaching staff they’re all very very young and inexperienced, 3-5 years down the road people don’t really understand how good this team is going to be if they’re this good already
@@dreshongovan4652 Lupoi's been around a while, and his success is really in recruiting- which isn't as critical in NIL era. Dillingham showed more promise and is a year younger than Stein.
He still makes some mistakes but he's a great recruiter and motivator. Remember, UO had Mario leave after all the other coaching carousel positions had been filled. A young DC was the best we could ask for. It was a roll of the dice, but it's working out pretty well so far. Nobody is going to beat tOSU if they keep playing the way they have
Which conference would have been paid if the Oregon Ducks had advanced to the cotton Bowl? I understand that the Pac12 was paid for their Participation 🏆 in the 2025 Rose Bowl! Let’s all wear our 2025 Rose Bowl gear this year!
Dan Lanning was my pick for OU. I knew the direction OU was headed just thought that the brakes needed to be blead before jumping right off into a decision. Do I think that Lanning would have fared any better than Venables here at OU with everything that has happened? Not for a second. Am I mad at Venables performance under the circumstances? No. It’s not ideal. The foundation is not optimal at OU. It’s going to take a great deal of demolition to get back down to the foundation and then the excavation has to take place. Only then will building begin. I think Lanning has a more solid foundation there at Oregon. Doesn’t mean the structure can handle the dynamic loads. None of these programs are going to fire and hire their way into instant gratification. Which is the very real illness society faces as a whole. The head coaching positions in all sports suffer the instant gratification furnace. That furnace burns traditions to the ground and when these disasters happen it’s a situation of desperation to throw something up that looks solid but the foundation was never addressed. It’s a polished palace sitting on a bed of shifting clay constantly breaking apart.
2 problems with Lanning right now. His defensive philosophy has been suspect the last half of the season. Second with the new playoff format you have to realize strategic losing is more important than winning all your regular season games or a conference Championship. It is more important to lose 2 games in your conference than win every game
I'm a big Duck fan but I guess I'm not as optimistic or bought into the hype for Lanning as much as others are. I had doubts after the debacle at Washington last year and now this absolute shit show at the Rose bowl. He had the best shot any coach at this university has ever had. He had the #1 team in the country, They were undefeated, They were at full strength and healthy, He had almost a month to prepare for a team that he had already played and beaten and that is the product he put on the field ? He didn't lose by a field goal, He didn't just have a bad quarter, This was an absolute dismantling and utter humiliation. I'm not sure we will ever be I as good as position as we were in this year to get it done and if he couldn't get it done while in that position I'm not to optimistic he will get it done at all. The bottom line is at this point he isn't any better than many of the coaches we've had in the past. Deja vu. Great regular season and then lose when it counts the most.
He is a third year head coach, at any level (no prior HC experience). He has improved his record each year (10-3, 12-2, 13-1). He just won his first conference championship. He is recruiting at an unprecedented level. I think he's going to be juuuuuust fine. Patience is a virtue. Fan bases don't usually possess it, of course, but it is still a virtue. Go Ducks!
Yeah it's obviously totally over for Oregon under Lanning.... It's permanently over for Georgia too... You saw how Notre Dame trounced them. Both of the programs might as well just quit football all together! 😜😂
Nope…..Oregon will remain a one and done under Lanning. Cost us twice last year against Washington and then again in the complete embarrassment at the Rose Bowl. Kirby smart was the defensive genius at Georgia. Lanning was nothing but a coat tail, which this season should have revealed to even the dumbest duck hopefuls
all, ALL, D1 College football is ruined. (NIL ruined it). Watched D2 championship last night and it was so much better than D1. DONE W/ D1 UNTIL THEY FIX IT.
The only reason why Oregon, a small state with an insignificant organic population of elite football players, is even on the map is because of the decades-long, massive financial doping it has received from Phil Knight and Nike, Inc. And, even with all of that, they still haven't been able to buy a National Championship in any major sport. But hey, Phil Knight isn't going to live forever and once he's out of the picture, it will be really interesting to see how the Oregon situation evolves.
Exposed for losing 1 game? What was exposed? That they’re not a title contender yet? That they don’t have the talent to compete for a title yet? Tell us
Yea, imagine losing in the rose bowl after going undefeated, #1 team in the country, winning the big ten in year one & beating Ohio State, Michigan & Penn State all in the same year. Also beating CFP contender Boise State. Hilarious
Dan Lanning is a overrated coach who has been given a pass because he's from the SEC. He's been beat several times by teams he should beat. He lost to Washington State at a critical time and Oregon St at a critical time. He inherited a great roster from Mario and he has a rich owner that doesn't mine stabbing other organizations in the back for a recruit and a of owner that drops bags of money off get player by making a living off sponsoring the whole of college sports which all of Nike wearing team's are helping him do it. Dan Lanning can't coach and barely beat Ohio State at home. It wasn't a shock to see what happened on the road. Yet he's still getting a pass because he's from the SEC!!!
To be fair, it is awfully easy for people to "overrate" you when you're 35-6 over three years. Oh, and Lanning has never lost to Washington State. He has lost to Georgia (x1), Washington (x3), Oregon State (x1), and Ohio State (x1). That short losing streak to Washington ended emphatically this year.

Yes we believe in Dan!!! He’s got a bright future, he’s only in his 3rd year and you have to fail and fail bad normally before you win big.

We got something special with Lanning and he’s just getting started.

Was he special when he brought a team to the Rose Bowl who were the biggest embarrassment I’ve ever see. As a Duck fan since the 70’s?
Define special please? Isn’t special taking less talented players and beating better teams?
This narrative is so dumb. The ducks got shredded against a really good team who they had already beaten earlier in the season. One bad game doesn't mean anything in the big scheme of things.
I wish that shredded wasn't an appropriate adjective
Won by 1 point at home. Lost by 20 at a neutral site when it counts. Hmm
@Heeezy33 yeah you know that's not even close to all the variables but okay be dumb to suit your own narrative. Typical OSU fan. When you beat Michigan like Oregon did in their stadium maybe you can talk 🤣🤣🤡

i completely agree with everything you said josh, spot on
He’s still young coach still learning but if you look at the three years he coaching it just keeps getting better and better 13-1 It’s pretty good for a third year. I think Dan is doing an awesome job at Oregon.

Excited for the future when I read Tez’s comments on Moore and his throwing ability…”best”
I love Lanning and all he brings.
Stein got badly outcoached in the PAC12CG last year putting us in a huge early hole…couldn’t recover such a huge deficit and ended up losing by 3. Huge improvement for him this year! However…
All of our coaches got badly outcoached in the Rose Bowl playoff game.
I completely agree, Lanning is the right guy, both the OC and DC should be reevaluated.
The most embarrassing loss was when the Beavers didnt throw a pass in the 4th Quater and still erased a 14 point deficit to win the game. Hard way to end probably the greatest season ever, but y'all crazy sometimes.
@ Embarrassing yes, not remotely close to the same universe of embarrassing as the Rose Bowl! 👀🤷🏼♂️🦆
Lanning was a straight A student during the season, but got a C on his final. He’ll need to get a tutor before his next exam to get an A.
Great analogy Steve
All the staff should get a tutor.
A C?
A C-please fine the number one team in the history of college football that lost a bowl game or hell win a bowl game after having gone down 34-O before halftime.

I'm not worried at all. the bye made a huge difference i’m telling you
I agree! The bye really hurt them. All 4 teams with byes are out.
@@jahendrix1543 I have the same sentiments. OSU and Oregon should not have met until the finals. Ridiculous setup.
It was so unfair to surprise the coaching staff with that Bye, they would have been able to prepare better had they known in advance.

Love how you totally left out the Lane Kiffin example. Was handed the keys to both Tenn and USC and absolutely fumbled the bag in epic fashion
Ducks fan and much respect to Ohio state for beating us that easily, I don’t see Oregon winning the natty next year but 2027 and 2028 I think is the ducks best chance yet and I would say they will seize the moment in 2028
The loss was shocking and sucked, but the season was still a step forward. Here's to the future!
What’s up with that Black Panther sequel-was that the 2025 Rose Bowl performance by the Oregon Ducks 🤢 🤮
I would say Oregon is a top 5 program in nation Oregon is a better program right now than most teams in playoffs
Please remember Chip is now 1-5 against Oregon since he left
If the play offs were 4 teams Oregon wins the natty. This is showing how no other national championships count anymore. This is the first year we will have a real champion
Make sure to keep Tosh. He’ll keep you from winning anything.
I’ve been forced to have patience with this program and I believe he’s on the right track. 45 yr old lanning could be everything or nothing

Just like in the NFL.
But you’re upsets have happened.

FEBU!

Will you keep showing up once Uncle Phil stops writing checks? Because you guys weren't showing up en masse until he started.
Buckeyes are unstoppable and Oregon suffered by being off. College kids don’t need rest. They need consistency.

It woud be nice for Phil to see that NCT at UO so hopefully Dan an the staff can pull it off.

honestly forget Phil Knight, it'll take a miracle if they win the natty in my lifetime and I'm in my 30s.
Lanning has a lot of promise despite the horrendous loss. I'm concerned with the coordinators though- at least when talking NC.

Nobody is going to beat tOSU if they keep playing the way they have
We sure would not want Mario back. He can not win a weak ACC conference
Would love it for freeman to win it this year and send every fanbase into panic over their coach being to old

the difference is oregon has never ascended to the top of the mountain. The "you're close" rhetoric is the same we heard in 2010, 2014, etc.
Yeah, we've been playing the "couple years away" game since like 2018.
Dan lanning will never be as good of a coach as nick saban in college football
Dan Lanning won't have a handful of vacated wins on his record like Saban has.
i dont think anyone will
In 2 or 3 years Oregon will win it all
2 problems with Lanning right now. His defensive philosophy has been suspect the last half of the season. Second with the new playoff format you have to realize strategic losing is more important than winning all your regular season games or a conference Championship. It is more important to lose 2 games in your conference than win every game
Enjoy your loser mentality. Lanning will continue to stand on business. Bye bye 👋
Everyone including fans are trying to become the next Nick Saban right now.

Oregon will never be the top dog.
