Yes it does matter the way the clutch shoes goes on. One way is called progressive and the other is called aggressive. You installed it aggressive. Aggressive will cause it to grab quicker and harder but may cause it to creep forward at an idle and will also cause the clutch bell to constantly be engaging and thus making it heat up red hot in short order, careful it can melt your spur gear but will give you a harder jump off the line.
Mine had a shim under the bearing but I kept burning through clutch's like craze and it warped my clutch bell.So I got all new and didn't put the shim under the bearing I used it on top under the C clip and so far it's been good
