Yes it does matter. One way is called progressive and the other is called aggressive. You installed it aggressive. Aggressive will cause it to grab quicker and harder but may cause it to creep forward at an idle and will also cause the clutch bell to constantly be engaging and thus making it heat up red hot in short order, careful it can melt your spur gear but will give you a harder jump off the line.

How do you the difference betweeen aggressive and progressive? Like how do I know which way to install it so that it’s progressive?

Really helpful vid, these are the types of issues that many nitro people may need assistance with but is rare to find a lot videos about it
I cannot tell you how many springs I've ruined cause I was taught to put the spring on beforehand. Definitely gonna try your way out.
Bet ya took it apart and flipped the clutch for the next video? Take it apart put it back the same is KEY!
Unfortunately I ran it like that until It broke again then I started putting it in one way only, but honestly it always broke no matter what I did & was the main reason this truck has been sitting on a shelf

Thanks. This helped. Though I found it easier to line the spring around clutch shoes prior to placing on the mounts.

My jato dies the second the wheels touch the ground. I’m thinking it’s a clutch issue. Hopefully a broken spring or something

100% that bandaid was from a failed attempt at getting that E-clip off, flat head slipped off right into the thumb! lol
Good guess, but I am right handed if you watch me take it off, be kinda hard to stab the same hand, so long ago I have no idea what it really was.

Just curious but how is your clutch bell an 18-tooth? Or did I not count the teeth right? Traxxas only sells a 14, 15, 16, and 17-tooth bell. Is yours aftermarket? Mine is a 14-tooth, came that way with #5214 and it only had- or at least I thought it only had, was just one washer that goes on the outside of the clutch bell between the outer bearing and the final E clip. And also, I didn’t take note on how my clutch shoes were arranged when I took it apart but I’ve heard the go one way. On mine, the reason I’m having to mess with mine is because one of my clutch shoes broke right there where outer part of the hole is.
Not much left on it is stock & I can't remember It's been quite some time since I have used this one, as for the shoes they supposedly do only go one way, at the time of this video I did not know that, This was the most common problem I had while running this truck & I always assumed it was the power of the 3.3 breaking it
Muramatsu Yoshikazu I don’t even know how long mine has been broke but I’m pretty sure that after all I’ve read, I think that’s why my motor stalls. I thought it was I overheating because supposedly, they’ll stall when they overheat. It was a god day that day, and I was running a fairly large diameter and width tire.
i just had the same problem with my jato 3.3 just now. my clutch shoe just went out the spring broke. im gonna order a baby blue aluminum clutch shoe. $ 22.00
Dose this fix my idle issue cause it won't I idle and I think it's that issue
Is this the secondary clutch? Or primary?
traxxas are easy ..2-shoe clutch with spring / others are 3-shoes with clips..just pain in the hands..
What's your throttle link called. That one looks better then the Traxxas one? Or is it an updated one
How do you remove the pinion gear from the housing?
This just happened in my tmaxx. Is it necessary to break in the clutch or just replace and go?
What is the steel colored flywheel kind of thing just behind the clutch halves? This steel colored flywheel has two pins. Does this flywheel rotate?
