      Try to get a bottle of Aloe Vera gel and keep it in the fridge... it helps with stress coat and alot of things actually... maybe you could get a piece (of a leaf); depending on where you live, in a quicker amount of time... I think Aloe Vera is anti fungal and anti bacterial (you can Google it... at very least, it's all natural... I left the hobby ages ago so I can't remember the dosage, but it's just the gel, slice off the green. It raises your PH a bit I think (I can't remember), but fish look happier withon a half hour after and my fish would actively swim into it when I would put it in... a little goes a long way, but I don't remember going over a bit being a problem.... I was in a warm climate... not sure if that matters, higher Temps during illness sometimes helps all on it's own, either way, keep the 29% water changes going.

    Hi Just before christmas I had an infection and It looked fungal but because somestimes you get bacteria mixed in well I treated with Bactopur and Mycopur of sera. I understood that you could mix them but it is not the case. You use to be able to mix Bactpur Direct and Mycopur, but not the normal Bactopur. Anyways the same thing happened exactly as you described but in my case my 3 (15 cm) discus died, one of 7cm died as well as many of community fish. Only one of my discus survived. He is Ok but very scared and clearly traumatised by the experience. I have put in 5 little discus which are ok and are helping the survivour overcome his fears. But I was totally devastated. I love my discus. I would hyave given up if all my discus had died but because one survived. I got some more little ones to help him gain confidence. But I practice night feeding to get the little ones to grow and make sure my old one eats as well. My aquarium is planted with Vallisneria, which clean the water a lot. I do two weekly changes of 30% water and I have the light on for approximately 7 hours only. The room has natural light and so even though the LED is switched of the Discus are still feeding. I think the little ones feed a lot at this moment and the survivor as well. By the way the survivor loves spiruline, and my other discus as well. I used to give it for my ancistrus but it gets eaten by my discus instead. I have heard it is healthy for them...

    Sorry to hear that happened George. I know you are not a huge advocate for medications, and I always thought you used Metronidazole.?

  • @Zoso456
    @Zoso456 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    Most meds cause more problems than solutions. Meds should be an extreme last resort. Water changes, not over feeding and perfect temperatures are key.

    I just experienced a similar situation with medications administered too close together. I’m Newark keeping discus and one of my discus turned dark in color and slime coat was shedding. The internet has so much information about symptoms and diagnoses and treatments that it lead me down a rabbit hole. I treated my tank with kanaplex and then neoplex shortly after. I put carbon my HOB for only a day between dosing medication. A few of my 6+ inch discus looked like they were zombies and had a whitish/cloudiness to the bodies, appetites poor, and fins looked burned. Of course, I panicked and used some common sense and did a very large water change and let the carbon in the filter for about a week. I current have two in a hospital tank and completing frequent water changes with some salt. The original I’ll fish is looking better but is still darker in color and doing a very strange mouth opening and stretching when trying to eat. It looks like he’s gasping, but I have good water agitation and air. I’m wonder if something neurological happens from mixing meds. He eats and swims normally, just not as he was before. My other just looks like she’s wasting, even after deworming with Clover plus. Sometimes I wonder if leaving well enough alone or just keeping it basic like more frequent wanted changes would be better than messing with medications.
    Hope your group are on the road to recovery!

      You and I had similar experiences. I think the less we medicate the better and certainly we need to wait in between medications so we have no reactions like this. I hope your fish are getting better. Try a few water changes and then 3- days of Paraguard, On the 4th day do a 30% water change and add 1 Tbsp. of Salt per 40 gallons and run for a week without water changes. It really works.

    I have run into the exact problem 2 days ago. I overdosed prazi powder to deworm my Discus. I realize I overdosed when got from work in the afternoon they were all hiding somewhat clamped Fins dark color not eating much at all. I did a 65 percent water change and turned up the temperature. Turned off the main lights to keep stress down and kept a small plant light above. Day 2 they were not getting better so I did a 50 water change and added aquarium salt. Noticed that had a good effect on them.But still in bad shape. So I ordered kanaplex because I noticed after the overdose some had bacterial or fungal infection. Hopefully that will bring them back. If you have any advice let me know. I will give an update wish me luck 🍀

      Sorry to hear that. I have used this several times in that tank and never a problem. I dosed four other Discus tanks that day and all are fine. It had to be that some of the Polyguard was left over and made a toxic environment. Several people have asked why I use Dewormer in the first place. Some frozen foods regardless of their claim must contain worm Larva or something because it happens. So I Deworm once every four months and have for many years now. I hope your fish get better. Mine are coming around thankfully. I am going to be extra careful in the future. Good luck and thank you.

    Hey buddy, I hate to hear that. That happened to one of my discus tanks as well. My question to you is did you do a large water change when you realized that the fish were being over text by the Meds in the water? Or did you just add carbon? my second question is why did you go ahead and put a third medication in the water when you didn’t see any trouble starting with the fish in the first place? It is my belief that we over, medicate our fish precautionary and cause more problems than if we just wait For issues to show their face. Were it my tank, I would have stripped the water of all meds and left them be for a few weeks. The stress alone can kill them and, it seems to me, in this situation less stress would be way more beneficial than throwing a third medication in on top of them. Hope your fish get better soon. I definitely know the inner turmoil you are going through. Thanks for the video my friend.🐠🦯

    • @aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto
      @aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It was only two meds. And five days apart. What I did wrong was not use carbon in between each Med. There was some compounds left over and when the two mixed it became toxic. So far the fish have all survived! It is a wait and see situation! Thanks. Yes meds are used way too often.

    Great video George. Is it necessary to deworm them? I’ve never done it. As a matter of fact I agree mostly with Father Fish. He tries to use as less of those products as possible. They are too strong.

      @@garygraham2089 I have frozen foods that contain worms at times. I don't trust most frozen products and worms can live in those conditions.

      I do now! Normally I use Metro. I dosed four other Discus tanks that same day with no problems. It was the Polyguard mixed in with it that made it toxic!
