I like how the natural jump is "this robot needs to be spruced up, it needs to be party orientated." hahahh like partying's an inexplicable connection.
I remember when Apple introduced their computers. They hired this guy (and his robot) to entertain the crowd. The guy would act like a bystander and talk into a cup with a hidden wireless microphone and make the robot talk. He'd steer it around and make comments.... It was quite funny and entertaining..
Back in the 1980s, David Leventhal rented out a robot named Casanova to Hollywood parties, but today the bot is rusting away in Agua Dulce, an isolated town north of Los Angeles. Check out more episodes of *California Soul*: bit.ly/California-Soul
Very interesting piece, my momhas probably been to some of those parties XD. Thanks for showing us this additional glimpse into that era and its cultural flavoring!
Holy ish!!!!! When I was a kid this Robot showed up a park in Beverly Hills. I followed it and just pretty much ended in a birthday party. It was an old memory that was fading.
I'm not entirely sure if what I just saw was a Vice documentary or an acid dream about two Cheez Whiz cans visiting one of the locations from Koyaanisqatsi.
Have to say it's true, the 80's was the era where they thought the future was going to happen like in the movies; back when there was still a ton of originality for movie story telling.
just look at some good 80's movies that protray the future and you'll see what people thought it would be like now... some things were pretty spot on... just look at Back To The Future pt 1 or 2 I forget which one but it's when Marty Mcfly travels to the year 2015 in his Delorian... shits priceless haha
Even if Cassanova faded out of his life, he still looks like he did well for himself - his place is basically a mansion. Not to mention he managed to keep the gig going for 15 years, if he started right at 1980 he would've gone into the mid-90s, but if he started during the mid-80s Cassanova could have partied right till Y2K. To the guy that asked if it got him laid, the lady at the end of this clip is his wife, so probably "yes" is the answer.
bored of the future...we really are, we have everything and still infinite potential but its seems like humanity is bored with itself already, its like if we arnt trying to fight for our lives or start wars we become bored, am happy just reading a book why cant everyone else be too.
Crying about the _relics of the future_ as if these things were anything more than popular trends. If you pay attention, you'd know about the improvements continually being made in technology. Or just be a whiny hipster, your choice.
"Dead future"? How is it dead? Nowadays were seeing more and more robots beign used commercially and in the army. Should only take a few more decades for robots to become fully mainstream and as common as computers.
Dude Fox News was leading a broadcast with the Cindy Crawford no photoshop "story" yesterday. You sure you're watching the same Fox News? (I didn't see it myself but I heard a radio host talking about it.)
This guy is interviewing himself in the future. Those two guys are basically the same person.
Spot on, spot on!
Not sure if he evolved.
HAHA true

This is something you'd see in Regular Show
I lost it when he was on the court show trolling his ass off. Pure comedy gold
I'm not entirely sure if what I just saw was a Vice documentary or an acid dream about two Cheez Whiz cans visiting one of the locations from Koyaanisqatsi.
Anytime cocaine is the center of the party...there should be a robot
Maybe one day we will get Casanova jr., just maybe
This is a nice little piece. A unique story of a forgotten myth. Kudos!
they never explained what the robot did at the parties. And did Max rent the house out or not?
I'm assuming it was just for show.
It had a list... Jokes, light cigarette, sweet talk, food, drinks.... It was a literal party robot.
bender party mode
Can anyone tell me the music played At 1:57
Darude- Sandstorm
Garrett N - BillieJ
I wonder if he had a special tray for doing coke off of.
Dude you know he did. You shouldn't even have to ask.
yea bro it was the 80's wtf kind of question is that and he said he threw a party with Silvester stalone or wahtever his name is
it prolly chopped it up and laid out rails for you
Of course he did, and he could also transform into the form of a giant bong on voice command.
I bet they did coke off any parallel flat surface on the robot!

Party on in peace, Casanova.
This was surprisingly fascinating.
I like how the desert location is named Agua Dulce "Sweet Water"
Holy shit, never thought Max Landis would host a vice video. Awesome. Now get to working on a sequel to Chronicle, please.
God speed Casanova god speed!

***** Yeah, everyone is a mindless zombie except you, you are special. /s
This is age of nostalgia, remakes and reboots. The past is our future.
NicholasRiviera not everyone just most of you...
I wish I could retweet that :p
***** You're a special snowflake
Amazing :) also i loved the house, in the middle of nowhere! :D
My dad beat my ass when my Omnibot 2000 dropped his drink.

TheGerogero One day your comment will be a relic. Hip;ster
you people use that word in every comment section of vice's videos. i'm starting to think you're all wannabe hipsters.
Tyto Alba Welcome to the club. :)
They obviously have not been to Tokyo
Vintage 80's party robot? yay for retro futuro tech :D
this turned out pretty hilarious
Less of a robot more like a remote control fridge freezer!
Vice, please do a story on Japan's Asimo and Pepper robots to see where the robot revolution is really taking off.
For creeps without friends that rather sit on Pc and Smartphone all day than getting to know people
I would love a robot like that at a party! And to be able to stand parties but that's another issue!
Excellent
The two dads of Napoleon Dynamite.
That we "thought we were headed towards" uh.....we still are headed towards.
Holy fucking marketing scheme
How? HOW? Did you NOT use Iron Man in the soundtrack?
How? Probably copyright.
Max Landis works for vice? Since when?
Reminds me of that dude from Napoleon Dynamite. His cousin or whatever.
aka Double Black Diamond Dave......Really? Who calls him that? Seems kinda long for a nickname,
+MrKydaman escorts
Wow that was pretty damn cool

Business in the front Party in the back
I'd love to know what he charged to bring the robot to parties.
So he was the original Bender?
Is the interviewer the smart guy from Criminal Minds?
Video starts 2 mins in.
Casanova the party robot
song at 2:18??
He watches the world go by from here :) lol
Thumbs up because Max Landis.
vice please put spanish subs on your videos.
Casanova went out of date cuz it didn't have enough vibrators.
I wonder how many people did cocaine with that robot
"People are bored of the future."
Nah man - the robot's just ugly by today's standards.
People expect even more.
This presenter reminds me of Javier Bardem.
Id buy one
He is celebrating birthday once a year?

Never trust a robot.
THATS MY LAST NAME
Vice crawls into the dustbin of boredom for another needless and tired video to take up space on google's servers somewhere.
It can't all be death and terrorism. Sometimes you need a robot pimp video.
Hell I wish they'd do death and terror. It's all inedible Vietnamese food and other weird hipster topics.
nitemareman1 If it was all about war and terrorism, they would be Fox News. Only with less blondes.
Dude Fox News was leading a broadcast with the Cindy Crawford no photoshop "story" yesterday. You sure you're watching the same Fox News? (I didn't see it myself but I heard a radio host talking about it.)
Shut up.
'80...
This makes absolutely no sense to me but then again I'm not doing a butt load of coke either.
Frank Zappa was right... maybe I am a latent appliance fetishist.
The original pick up artist
Wait so in the 80's making a cheap looking robot got you laid!?
Hella dumb intro.
wtf? bored of the future? am I in bizarro world? just because new tech replaced the old tech does not mean we have given up on tech
i like turtles
Are we just going to ignore David Leventhal's terrible choice of hairstyles ?
Nice Hawaiian shirt
The interviewer should be deported for the way he dresses.
Wobot
This was incredibly lame
