This is surely a very nice and solid project, looks beautiful. You mentioned modern influences for the line foundations. In modern foundations the black membrane is pulled from the ground until the border if the trenches everywhere to completely protect the foundation. Before the concrete is poured you put reinforcement in the shape of iron rid baskets into all foundation lines before you poure the waterproof concrete until soil level!!! No blocks are used under soil level because they might be very solid but basically they are like sponges and suck the moisture inside.What I dont understand too is the fact, that the surface of the concrete in your case seems to look like a roller coaster. How do you level the blocks on top of it??? In my case you build a fence made of Wawa board along all the line foundations so that you can level the concrete at/or a bit above soil level 100% and the block laying will be easy. The membrane that you have put into the trench before pouring the concrete now will be fixed like an envelope along the first block line and everything will be protected. You can add the bitumen in addition to it, especially in wet or wetland areas. That is a very great protection.
