The last member of the platoon has finally stood down. R.I.P Pikey you not only brought millions of people so much joy but looking at this you were also a lovely man. Those 4 words ‘Don’t Tell Him Pike’ have ensured your legacy will last forever
RIP Ian.. the platoon now complete in Heaventon on sea... Gone to soon... stupid boy....sleep tight. thanks for your contribution to memories of life....
Rest in peace, Ian Lavender. Fondly remembered by The Wyvern Theatre, Swindon (Dick Whittington 1973) and by everyone who appreciated and laughed out very loud at your incredible comedy timing and wonderful humour. A truly fine actor.
This is a wonderful tribute. Thank you. He was a great actor and had such a warm screen presence. He was also very good on EE, which I can't say for all actors who come into the show after being defined in other roles.
Even at 56, Ian radiates such boyish charm, playfulness, and innocence; it's no wonder Croft and Perry saw him as the ideal Private Pike. It's a testament to Ian's craft that his character shone so brightly in a cast riven with talent and experience. R.I.P Pikey! Say hello to Mr. Mainwaring, Cpl. Jones, and Uncle Arthur for me!!
i MISSED THIS SHOW,, WHAT A GREAT RECORD, OF ONE OF OUR MOST MEMORABLE CHARACTER ACTORS. THE LAST OF THE FEW. iT'S VERY SAD TO NOTE, THAT MOST OF THEM SEEN HERE, ARE LOST TO US. R.I.P PIKEY.
Thank you so much for the upload! Great channel, subscribed. Please, do you have This Is Your Life, the episode with Cathleen Nesbitt (S20 E23, May 7, 1980) It would be a tribute to Michael Jayston too (who sadly passed a few days ago) and it has many great actors in it too (John Gielgud, Max Harrison, Michael Jayston, Coral Browne, Douglas Fairbanks, Roland Culver, Maria Aitken, Richard Briers). Thank you!
I was so saddened to hear of Ian's passing. His characters will live on people's hearts and minds & in the video recordings. I find the BBC's response to disallowing the submariner's list clip reprehensible. I think that the Corporation that we in Britain own takes itself far too seriously as being a professional commercial organisation. The clips of any BBC programme belong to us. We have to pay for them under threat of jail. Bad form. Sleep well Ian. You were loved by many.
Unfortunately, copyright law doesn’t agree with you because the actors were (and are) all freelance, so the law says the production company owns it - regardless of how it’s funded - because they are the ones with whom the artists had a freelance employment contract with, not the general public. The BBC - like all other public services - is not actually owned by the public in its most literal sense. Every public service is answerable to us and is funded by us but is not actually owned by us.
Mum used to watch this show when i was a kid and it bored me senseless. The theme tune itself was enough to send me to sleep. Now, I wish they'd bring it back.
I wouldn’t want it back. They got the cast perfect. It’s a pity that James Beck died when he did as the episodes without him seem quite hollow. Repeats are where it’s at!
You might want to edit this video's description a little bit because actually, Ian Lavender died on the 2nd February. His death was just announced today, which is why you've uploaded this in his memory. You're only three days out.
“ Stand easy now Pike , fall in with the rest of the men “ Sad news , happy memories. RIP Ian

Rest in peace Ian Lavender. This is lovely to see. He seemed like such a sweetie and my heart goes out to his family.
Love Dad's Army and was privileged to see him in the live stage show back in the 70s.
R.I.P Ian.
So kind and generous of David Hyde Pierce to record that message. Most actors would've said no.
An absolute gentleman and a huge, generous talent. Thanks for sharing.
Not a gentlemen, a pervert
RIP Ian, hope you and the gang are having a great reunion up there

RIP Ian Lavender. Have you got any more episodes of This is your life please?
Only two and they will be published when their subjects pass on.

@@theculturedthug6609 Weatherman Bill Giles from 1998 (which is incomplete) and actor Dave Willetts from 1991.
