Didn't know paint was a thing. Oh well, can't miss what you never had. I have never played it on anything before. Maybe they may add it in later, who knows.
Hi guuuuuys, would love if you can make a vifeo for the top space shooter games. That would be awesome since it's one of your favourite genres. See yaaaaa
SwitchUp not at all. I worked on the cinematics. Deep in the bowels of my channel you can find some of the experimental ones we did for fun, including an "alternate ending" lol. But great review. I've been really enjoying the game. Though I find some of the missions misleading in difficulty and so I have to grind to earn enough to survive being overwhelmed. Maybe I'm just rusty lol.
I love the Double Damage guys, their skill considering their size and their love for this genre always amazes me. I got this on launch week in the hopes we get a Switch version of RG1. The devs are always easy to chat with on Twitter too :D
I love this game, I really like being able to pick up my switch and run a couple of missions then turn it off again. It's the perfect chance to indulge my favourite genre during my 30 minute lunch time!
Fun Fact: Most brits dont like western stuff (southern/western fusion type rock, and rowdy girls that carry a side-arm) cuz it reminds them of the alternate past they missed out on.
Mark ...My backlog is piling up higher and higher with each review. I must find the power of the force to resist watching your reviews. Almost bought Hades when I saw your review but I was able to resist it and put it on my wish list. Then your review was online on Ori 2 will of the wisp, Shazam! Bought the game and I love it. Now another interesting space game with a great review as always ...muuust poettt it on myy wishlist. Must resist.
Hi Tom, Hades sounds and looks amazing! Can't wait to play the game though I have too many rogue like games to finish. Choices choices choices...Mark and Glen aren't making it easy on my wallet. But even if resistance is futile.... I have to try...eventually " all my money will be assimilated by the SwitchUp Borg".
I am defiantly buying this, I love Starlink its such a shame more people don't buy it, just buy it with the toys, keep the game and give the toys to a young relative.
One for the Wishlist... Really wish someone would pick up Starlancer, Freespace or Wing Commander IPs and make a new game. Always preferred the more military approach than mercenary!
I was so pumped for this game because I loved rebel galaxy. I somehow forgot all about it while waiting for release and just now realized that it was out
Juno's performance was amazing. She was voiced by Lani Minella, who has a highly prolific and successful voice acting career. I really like how gruff and tired and completely over it she is, which fits her character as someone who spent her youth as an outlaw, retired and now years later has to grind off the rust and shake off the dust as she's forced back into the game. Different strokes, I guess. As far as everything else, for better or for worse, it's a retro game; pretty much a clone of Wing Commander Privateer. You can tell just how much love for Privateer is in this game, and a lot of the elements that seem rough around the edges are pretty much lifted straight from Privateer, including the crowded low-visibility cockpits and exiting back to the main menu when dying. I can see where you're coming from, of course; these elements are charming to those of us who sank hundreds of hours into Privateer and Righteous Fire >25 years ago, but they do seem dated and foreign in the current sea of space combat games. It's one of those "retro experience" games, rather than "retro look," I suppose.
Yeah, I just didn't click with the character rather than the performance which wasn't overly helped by some of the writing. I totally understand their design decisions, but being nostalgic at the expense of quality of life I always find slightly self indulgent these days. I'm getting old. I think, personally you can nod to the past while still improving the experience. Mark
Yeah that is one thing that annoys me, the die and exit to main menu, two load screens (they are not that bad tbh) just annoying, so make sure I don't die to avoid the main screen lol. Ah the gfx are intentionally done like that? Was wondering why it has a retro, hazy look about it. On a big screen (80") it looks a bit hard to read the controls like speed and distance to you arrive. Though on the Switch screen, it is much clearer.
I'll put it like this: I love Privateer so much that I've bought it half a dozen or so times. The original diskette. The enhanced CD-ROM. Bought that one a couple times after loaning my copy to friends who never returned them. GOG. This is so close to that experience that I've bought it on Epic, Xbox, and Switch. It scratches a specific itch that nothing else has quote scratched. Privateer 2 completely missed the mark, and Freelancer was close, but I didn't care for the third person camera. ELITE is excellent, but also way more of a sim experience.
this has been on my list for years! I had no idea it was coming out in 2020!?! I'm about to watch this review, but I'm hoping for an 85 score. Hopefully the transition to the switch was a good one. Cheers guys! Thanks for the review.
Man, I'd die for a switch port of Freelancer. That game was simply amazing. Might check out Rebel Galaxy Outlaw, see how it compares! Might Scratch that itch
Freelancer.. now those were the times. Honestly that game needs its own re-release or remaster. By the way, what do you think about the open world aspect of this one? Any inclination to just cruise around and take in the sights? It was by far my favourite aspect of Freelancer.
I saw this on the eshop the other day and was very very tempted to buy it but thought I would just hold back as I knew you would do a review of it soon. I love Elite Damgerous so I think this might fill the gap on my switch so thanks so much for covering this game so well
I just picked up elite dangerous last week and I was instantly hooked. Can’t believe I’m years late to that game! Lol… now I’m Trying to find something for my switch as well that’s a bit similar. Did you end up buying this game? Debating with this one or everspace… cheers
@@CarlJames10 yes I did pick it up and it’s great, it’s obviously not elite but it’s about as close as you will get to it on switch. I also own everspace and although it’s a good game it’s just a space shooter with no trading or freedom to travel where you like. Rebel Galaxy Outlaw is my favourite space game on switch
I don't think I've seen the Australian price in your videos before, thank you so much for adding it! You're one of my go to channels and it makes it so much easier!
I already had the game but wanted to check out your review and from what I've played I mostly agree with you. As a fan of Wing Commander back when I was a kid I was really hoping this would fill that Privateer sized hole in my life, and so far it's doing pretty well at that. I think that it's cool that you can decide how you wanna play, merc, trader, miner, etc. I'm also really glad you didn't directly compare the game to either Everspace or Starlink, as both are also quite cool (Everspace especially) but both are also quite different. Another good review.
Ya know what's nice about this channel? No stupid thumbnails and two dudes that I imagine actually enjoy gaming. Most of these "content creators" are chumps. Keep it up, fellas.
there are so many great fun space themed games for the switch also for ps4 and 5 my favorites are : no man's sky, redout space assault, monticore galaxy on fire, red galaxy outlaw, the outer worlds, journey to the savage planet, everspace stellar edition ( everspace 2 for ps5), Starlink battle for atlas deluxe, Space stella unknown planet.
I agree with pretty much all of that, Juno is just lifeless really. And lack of manual save has me stuck in an unwinnable situation. But I enjoy the music, listening to the classical channel a lot last few days. Great review.
Been waiting on this game to come out on the Switch for a while and now it's out but I got other priorities to take care before I can get it....great timing
Just happened upon this review, and was surprised to see Rebel Galaxy Outlaw was out for the Switch. I was a fan of the original Rebel Galaxy, (which I just started playing again.) Yes, my Freelancer cravings have been on high alert since this game was first introduced, and I'm sure I'll pick this up sometime...but thanks to your review, I'll wait for a sale. I still have several other space games to keep me busy. (Everspace, I'll beat you one day!!!) Great job for the review, as always! Thanks! 😁
I loved the 1st one. Seems this is pretty much more of the same with more advance mechanics. I loved the music in the first one. I think it has the best overall soundtrack of any recent game.
Played this on PC. Excellent game. Picked up for Switch and I can say it runs very good on Switch. A shame about the painting on switch being removed but the core gameplay is there and runs very smooth a real treat to take on the go when not docked.
Thanks for the review. Bit the bullet and bought it. Couldn't be happier. Sure the gfx is a tad fuzzy on a big tv, but got use to it pretty quickly, and it is no where near as bad as Outerworlds port is, that Outerworlds is a blurry mess. This is a fun title I am enjoying. Love you can play all different ways. As a fan of Elite, and was dying for something like Elite on Switch, this title scratches that itch. Thank you for the review and keep up the great work
Looks pretty decent, has a lot of potential at least if they keep supporting it. Would love for Elite Dangerous to drop on the switch, Starlink is at least an amazing game. Still need to give Everspace a try. Galaxy on Fire would be a good port to Switch, especially if they add all of them in one pack.
Im in love with Elite Dangerous! I was debating between this one or everspace. I leaned more towards this one but I came across starlink which is having a sale that ends in 4 hours so I had curve ball and went with starlink for now. Lol. I’m thinking this one next time and then everspace hopefully. Cheers
Now that Frontier has started publishing games on the Switch I am slightly holding out hopes for Elite Dangerous. I may pick this up though at some point as it does give that Freelancer vibe right down to the wooden voice acting. I actually still have a physical version of Freelancer sitting around from back when they were still a common thing.
If you ever get the chance then please play Elite Dangerous IN VR with a HOTAS and a voicepack (voice attack). Its like heaven if you like spacesims. If thats never your plan then i still hope for you it will release on te Switch :)
I’d love elite dangerous on the switch but I like this teams hard work! I’ll grab the game in the hope that one day they bring the first game to the switch. I like getting into big ships. How’s the ship and weapon variety?
Another space shooting game? Ugh... I am so jealous of you guys, I can only touch my Switch maybe on November and that's even questionable. Watching this is both a joy and a torture. Thanks mates.
The original on PS4 was good fun but a bit limited due to the ships only being able to travel on the horizontal plane, so it was more like naval warfare than space flight. Good to see this has gone fully axis-free.
I can see the Freelancer, but Rebel Galaxy Outlaw looks and feels way more like wing commander privateer. It was made by Chris Roberts(Wing Commander series). He later started working on Freelancer, then Microsoft bought him out and finshed the game. I like Freelancer, but felt it was a bit watered down from privateer. Rebel Galaxy Outlaw is an upgrade to Privateer.
I just loved freelancer and it's where the vast majority of my space time was back in the day, other than some super old 486 space games I had that were objectively terrible but I enjoyed them! Mark
Man I was struggling between the amazing start fox and everspace.. now I have to add this in. Now it's going to be impossible to chose the space game Haha. This seems the closest to a survival type though so could be a winner
I call upon you, SwitchUp family, and your expertise: I am looking into a space game that has a mix of action, exploration and relaxing flight, so not necessarily combat heavy. Think No Man's Sky, for reference. What would you suggest? This one, Everspace, or starlink? I am not big in this genre, but i think I would enjoy drifting through space... Thank for the tips!
Awesome test, finally I will wait for a sale and stick to elite dangerous on ps4 for now, as you said, giving it time to grow will hopefully make it better later.
Great review again the only thing missing from your videos tho is the resolution of games wish you could add this in but not sure how difficult this is for you guys
Omg I LOVED freelancer, I put so much time into that game. I want this game but not sure if I should get for switch or on steam....I would love it on switch if there's a physical.
I've been enjoying my time with this one but it might be a weird comment, I just really didn't like the way the stars looked. As picky as that is, it just keeps on annoying me. I don't feel like I'm within the stars if that makes sense like I'm in some weird bubble. Otherwise, I've been enjoying it, though I will say, I'd love to see Elite Dangerous on the Switch. Now where's this supposed Switch pro that could make that dream a reality.
I know exactly what you mean. I actually removed a line of my review where I said that because I thought I was being ridiculous! I said "I don't particularly like their version of space" but as I got further in the game it grew on me and there are some awesome looking locations. The start sectors are pretty bland. Also, exploring the points of interest helped a lot. Mark
Hmmm, looks like the transition to switch was a little rough, and the price tag IS a bit high. The gameplay loop and controls look solid though. I'm wondering how it is on handheld? I noticed a lot of text. Is it still legible? Until this one goes on sale, I'll stick with Mario Galaxy Outlaw!
@@SwitchUpYt I had a feeling it was. I was hoping it would be a decent game. The show is pretty good and the little one loves it. I have to steer her clear of the game though. Bribing her with v-bucks usually does the trick.

Seriously doubt it. First one never had a physical release and its still a super tiny team.
Just bought ys origins with my points and the 20% discount cause of you mentioning it, but this one going on the wishlist as well!
It looks like it but does it have roll control (“simulation”), type controls?),cheers ,does it have GoF type mining interactions etc?
You can roll with gyro or right stick IIRC
Cheers for the balanced review, mate. Going to hold off for a sale.
You're welcome mate! Mark
Mark
Chris Roberts only developed the original concept for Privateer. His brother Erin produced it.
Does anyone know when the physical is releasing?
I've been praying for this to come to the switch since I saw it
No plans yet. They're only just toying worth the idea currently
@@poopikins thanks
I also want a physical copy of this!
Starlink is the closest to No Mans Sky between them.
For what you described - Starlink
I wasn't really sold on it, but it looks like it might be the best one really. Would you suggest to wait for a sale and buy the complete edition?
I’d recommend this because while the story demand you to fight a bit. You can just have the life of a miner/trader. Also the music is insane!
Awesome test, finally I will wait for a sale and stick to elite dangerous on ps4 for now, as you said, giving it time to grow will hopefully make it better later.
A Cowboy Bebop fans dream!
Omg we need a proper GOOD Cowboy Bebop game!! It's insane that it hasn't been done yet
Has this game had any updates since this video?
Great review again the only thing missing from your videos tho is the resolution of games wish you could add this in but not sure how difficult this is for you guys
Was the advert cutting the word at 2:40 in half placed on purpose?
Oops what did it cut lol?
SwitchUp Cockpit :-D
Haha
Not sure if its the algorithm but the ad popped up right in the middle of you saying cockpit view, and not between cockpit and view :D
Omg I LOVED freelancer, I put so much time into that game. I want this game but not sure if I should get for switch or on steam....I would love it on switch if there's a physical.
Have yall considered doing a favorite Space game list? Lots of options now like Starlink, Everspace, Subdivision, and many more.
Yeah :) some decent ones
Great review like always:)
One thing I hoped to get explained.
What’s the difference between the autopilot and this sublight speed???
Awesome thanks for the review!!
definitely one for the wishlist
I’m torn between getting this or everspace... which should I get?
Everspace
Is this ever coming to Steam?
Take it Everspace is a better choice?
Will pick this one up when on-sale...i still play everspace on switch plus no man's sky for ps4 also i have star fox for switch that ubi soft made .
Great review, cheers mate
Are you going to do a video on the best space shooters like this one on the switch?
That would be good!
Freelancer released 2019?? Why can't I find this? Was that a mistake?
It was just a really bad sentence 🤣.
Mark
Same level of brightness, same size, same color just means every friggin star is exactly the same. My entire life has been a lie!
@BMO I play it on my Xbox right now but the idea of it handheld and on the go just sounds too good!
It's ok I'm handheld but there were a couple of performance judders at larger stations. Mark
I want to buy this on PS4 when it releases...but I don't do digital. I REALLY hope that they drop a physical edition.
Love this kind of game, I'll pick it up on sale. Cheers guys
Cheers Ed I'm the same, it's right up my alley! Mark
Remind me of galaxy on fire 2 on android. This is the type of game I like, customisation, trading, mining etc
Excellent review. Now just bust out that Troll Hunter review for us...I know you guys are working on it...I mean you did review that mermaid game.
But it's sooooo bad...
@@SwitchUpYt I had a feeling it was. I was hoping it would be a decent game. The show is pretty good and the little one loves it. I have to steer her clear of the game though. Bribing her with v-bucks usually does the trick.
This or Everspace??? 🤔
Just made me turn back on the switch in months
