I’ve run the ALL Patched Up Series since the Switch launched and had this idea to target games that should benefit a little from more horsepower. I am sure I have missed some but these certainly could use it! Mark
Will there still be an All Patched Up video coming? There is something innately satisfying about seeing the improvements and gratifying knowing that some developers care to make improvements. If not, thats ok, you are probably incredibly busy. Cheers SwitchUp!
Excited for when Switch 2 hits, you guys are going to have your hands full with Patched Up videos checking performance of the biggest games that had performance issues on the original system 😮
Fun fact about MushihimeSama (and Cave’s games generally) is that the replicated slowdown in ports isn’t just about authentically recreating the arcade experience, but also about the game’s difficulty balance. Cave used hardware slowdown when they were balancing the original game, so certain bullet patterns are supposed to slow down to give the player a better chance of parsing and navigating them. If they didn’t include the slowdown in the port then the game would be waaaay harder 😅
Everspace, Stranded Deep, Hellpoint…only two days ago did I have to archive some games for space. Now I need another much larger memory card…playtime!!! Thanks Mark & Glen, I need to change my career to allow for all the gaming time I need, I’m never going to get it teaching! And thanks for a very funny episode!
With how you wondered if games that use dynamic resolution would automatically run at higher resolution on the Switch 2, you are right that they will. As an example, I went from the PS5 to the Pro and it was noticeable in those games!
Can’t wait to see what Nintendo have cooked up for the Switch 2! I really hope it will improve performance on older games without extra work for the devs.
My guess is it’s gonna be similar to PS5 where if you want the enhanced version of some games you may have to pay an extra 10 bucks to “download the Switch 2 version” then some games will have the update automatically for free
I love the way the first Mario vs Rabbids looks and runs. It may actually be better than Sparks of Hope. Zooming into various characters sneaking shots at each other. Very smooth. Lush quirky environment.
My ten year old got a switch for Xmas and we've been looking for good two player games we can both play on our lites. Nothing her she'd fancy, but still a decent set of sales. 👍
What a selection, indeed lets hope the Switch 2 makes all the games run smoothly on the go. Also I really like Everspace, I can recommend Manticore Galaxy On Fire as well although it plays different
Hey, lads! Haha, loved the concept for this review video! Oh man, we’re all so eager for the Switch 2 that we almost forget there are still great titles on the 'Switch 1' (loved the short joke at the beginning, Mark) that could run even better on the new hardware! Here’s hoping we can enjoy the next Switch soon! 🤞🏻🤘🏼
Yeah I just went and bought Hellpoint from the eShop and unfortunately there is no DLC as mentioned in this video. Should have paid closer attention before purchasing, but still a good deal for only $12. Maybe it exists in other regions but I can't find a single source online about DLC on switch.
When I was a teen, you could spend approx 30 mins waiting for a game to load only for it to crash (commodore 64) . Then while playing, you were constantly on edge, hoping it won’t crash, coz you moved the tape deck slightly. I’m assuming, even if the games not had anything done to it, it’ll run much better on Switch 2 due to the improved hardware 🤔
I'm excited for the "certainty" that Switch 2 will allow some of these games to run at an acceptable/good framerate. And fingers crossed this will open the possibility of getting Switch 2 versions of other remasters/remakes/ports from the other major players. Thanks for the fun vid, guys! 😊
I like how you placed the quotes around the term, certainty. because we all know that sometimes Nintendo does 'Nintendo' things... things that defy common sense in one example, wherein another example they make brilliant decisions. So when it comes to backwards compatibility and how exactly Nintendo is going to go about it, no one is going to know until obviously the Switch 2 arrives in our hands.
finished 2 games during the holidays, Star Ocean and Cocoon, which was a unique experience! BUT you lads managed to make me break my new years resolution to clear my backlog by picking up immortals phoenix rising as it was only 28$ CAD for a physical copy
At 2:40 you mention you would like to see a sequel for Fenyx Rising. Ubisoft Québec had started pre-production on it but the project was cancelled because the game didn't perform as well as the head honchos were projecting.
Strange thing to say that older games were more similar across platforms. I clearly remember being a kid with a Spectrum, feeling jealous of other versions. The Spectrum version was different to the C64, which was different to the Master System, and so on. Like, vastly different in terms of graphics. Also, did I just hear someone say there was more slowdown on SNES games than Megadrive? I was a Sega kid but that’s a ludicrous thing to say!
Interesting concept for a vid boys, my favourite patched up story is No Man’s Sky. Played the original PS4 version with all of the disappointment. Playing it again now on Switch, what a story of redemption. Fair play.
I have a few of the games here... I'm already saving hard for the new Switch. The three (main) things I really want on the next iteration are: - Brighter Screen. I LOVE the portability of the Switch, but its biggest downfall is the crappy brightness on the v2 LED model I have. - More power! Damn it Scotty, give me everything you've got! The chug on frame rates and loading times bother me way more that graphical finesse. - Better eStore. Seriously, I could wipe my ar$e and produce something better than the current offering. There's plenty of other things I'd like, but those are the real kickers for me.
I bought Hellpoint a few days ago when I saw it was on sale. I didn’t and still don’t see anything regarding the DLC. Could it not be available in the US yet?
just scrolling through for the prices (sorry i'm "at work" lol) and - it appears you are off by a decimal place for another crab's treasure lmao. it says $2.49 lol!!! i almost jumped out of my seat, i opened the eshop so fast lol.
Theres been so many older games receiving updates that make me wonder/hope that they mighr be gearing up for a Switch 2 release, eg Dishonoured 2, The Sims 3 and a few others. Too many rumours floating about that I can't believe anything I read and its hard to tell whats real anymore. Its Thursday the 16th here but I guess no announcement in AEDST time, maybe tomorrow then. Cheers gents, hope you're both recovered after the holidays sickness.
Really creative video idea lads I enjoyed this. Ark would be my game to check on the switch 2, can't stand how it looks/runs at the minute despite the patches
I really enjoyed sparks of hope. Also stopped playing another crabs treasure cause of how bad it was, might have to jump into it again after that all patched up video
Immortals was such a good game, very underrated and marred by that awful in-game marketplace, but a real gem. I would love to have a sequel on Switch! Even though it will never happen most likely...
Backwards compatibility has NOT been confirmed for both physical and digital games. They had an announcement that was very vague (read it again you will see) and it was not specified for both physical and digital games... So it's still a very BIG question. Let's hope?
Another Crab's Treasure looks fantastic now!! I nearly played through it and stopped a few months ago. It DID look pretty rough at times- almost like a PS2 game. It looks much better post-patch; almost like a classic Disney film!!! Can't wait to play it, but I'm gonna play through Tails of Iron first. The sequel is coming out on the 28th!!!! :D
Mario Rabbids really needs some more love from the community. Both games are fantastic and are far better than you'd ever expect. Don't think we will be getting a third though, as I don't think they sold well enough
A game I’m looking forward to playing with better performance on Switch 2 is Oceanhorn 2. My mom swears by it as a solid Twightlight Princess/Wind Waker, Zelda clone.
With these videos I always hope that it’s either filled with rubbish games or games I already own 😂 and if there is a gem there which I haven’t played that it isn’t too expensive lmao. Thanks for the great video Mark!
About HellPoint, im in the US and after saying theres dlc and it runs better i redownloaded it and...still runs bad and no dlc mentioned anywhere in the eshop or game. Region only thing? Anyone else not seeing dlc for this?
Im really curious if or how they will update Switch titles. Nvidia upscale can do well if implemented correctly, i dont like upscales that make things look and run better but adds a ton of motion blur and tearing during movement. Or will studios have Switch 2 update patches for their games. Will we have to rebuy the game for the next gen version or get a discount if its already in our library. Only a few games i would rebuy for better graphics and performance, Metro 1 & 2 and hopefully the will add Exodus, Witcher 3, Wolfenstein New Colossus, Arkham Knight and obviously Hogwarts Legacy.
I really enjoyed Immortals Phoenix Rising, must have done a hundred hours on it... But, yeah, it DID chug a bit! I'd love to return to it on Switch 2, and see it afresh
Hoping developers are very generous with these updates for switch 2. Don’t want to see any additional charges to upgrade to the newest version like we saw on some PS5 games. Especially since these titles on Nintendo already cost more than on other systems!
Have a couple ideas for videos now that switch 2 is impending. Switch titles that made system, titles that shouldn't go under the radar even with Switch 2 coming out, your personal list of titles you think were most influential in the last 8 years, maybe your game of the year since launch, and some forth! Cheers
Yeah, I love what you're doing here but my concern is that just because the S2 is backwards compatible doesn't automatically mean that these games will automatically run better on the new system, does it? Until that's known, I am only buying new games that currently run pretty much perfectly on the Switch.
Wouldn’t the games need a patch to run better on ‘Switch 2’ as wouldn’t they be coded for what the hardware of the Switch (1) can deliver, so under Switch 2 they will just run the same as they did on Switch unless they were patched to use the new extra power that Switch 2 brings. (Obviously I’m not a programmer/coder so hence my question and sorry if it’s a stupid question)
Not currently on sale (I think it ended a few days ago) but Cassette Beasts still has some performance issues. During exploration the performance is a bit - to quote Glen - dicky. It's a shame because it's a lovely game
I think we’re being optimistic in believing the new Switch will give us performance updates. I know Nintendo have all but confirmed backwards compatibility, but there are a lot of hardware considerations to consider before a new console can run previous-gen games at higher frame rates and fidelity. Heck, even some Xbox One games still run poorly on Series X. Hopefully Nintendo will prove me wrong, but they’re not exactly technical wizards when it comes to this sort of thing.
Would encourage anyone to pick up the free demo of "fenix rising" and see what you think... it's fun and not one you would think if to pick up. Ubisoft really dropped the ball on marketing it.
What about kingdom comes deliverance, it runs really badly sometimes and below 25 fps handheld . Anyways loooove your channel and currently super exited about the switch 2. Bigs hugs from Colombia 🇨🇴 South America
Great idea for a vid guys! 💡 I would also add route 96 brilliant game which has randomly generated road trips in the vain of a telltale game but my Lord is the stuttering and frame drops atrocious!
I'd rather get games on my Switch because of the portability and convenience, but I often choose other versions if they look and run much better. With a hefty performance boost that would make me much more likely to get even more games on Switch 2, backlog be damned!
I really enjoyed immortals pheniox rising a lot but my one play through was enough. I’m not a Zelda fan but love Greek mythology alot so this game was very interesting for me. It was hard to put down but once completed I haven’t gone back to it. If a sequel comes out I’d get it but im sure it would be the same really got me hooked but once completed won’t touch it again
Will the Switch 2 be able to run Arkham Knight? I’ve no idea what the leaked specs are for the Switch 2, I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts.
Is there any chance The Witcher 3 graphics would look better on the Switch 2? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I don’t know much about the technical side of things.
It's hard for me to see frame rate issues. Maybe my eyes are just old? So, I don't often have any frame rate issues...or maybe I just can't see them? haha.
I saw that Arkham Knight was being sold individually AND on big special a few weeks back and nabbed it but saw that the graphics fidelity being so muddy & generally low paired with low frame rate and needing to do high speed manoeuvres cause of the Batmobile I stopped it at 1.5 hours playtime to wait for Switch 2 even if all it brings is better frame rate
I think it's a bit early to start getting these videos out. Has the performance boost been officially confirmed? Do we know how it works? What if they decide to limit the performance to those of a base switch to avoid compatibility issues? It's nintendo, they're not exactly new at making questionable choices
I don't think I understand the people who complain that Fenyx Rising is too similar to Breath of the Wild. Both are great games. I don't think of the other one whenever I am playing either. They are two very different worlds. The only similarity, as far as I can see, is the crypt/dungeon puzzles. Very different in style, the only similarity is that they exist. How have other RPGs done puzzles differently? If Fenyx Rising and BOTW are the same because they have puzzle dungeons, then all other RPGs are the same because they don't have puzzle dungeons!

@@SwitchUpYt GLORIOUS!! I've been following ACT intensely and have been patiently waiting for an All Patched Up on it. Cheers Mark you legend!

Fun fact about MushihimeSama (and Cave’s games generally) is that the replicated slowdown in ports isn’t just about authentically recreating the arcade experience, but also about the game’s difficulty balance.
