The Poorna Swaraj Resolution declared the aim of Indian National Congress as complete Independence and not Dominion Status. Gandhiji was given the freedom to initiate the mass civil disobedience in a manner he considered appropriate as he was the only leader who had the capability to lead such a mass movement. Gandhiji decided to march from Sabarmati Ashram to coastal village of Dandi and break the Salt Act 1882 which denied the right of making salt to people and also imposed taxes on salt which hurted the poor most. Similar marches were led by C Rajagopalachari between Trichy and Vedaranyam in Tamil Nadu and by K KELAPPAN in between Calicut and Payyanur in Malabar region of India.
