- The Emergency Period during Indira Gandhi regime is often regarded as dark days of Indian Democracy. But what was the actual reason behind Indira Gandhi proclaiming the emergency of 1975? In this mini-documentary, I go in depth to explain the root causes and reasons behind it. Starting from 1969 and the infamous battle between the legislative and judiciary to pass the privy purse laws and the nationalisation of banks laws.

Judiciary should definitely be more powerful because at once legislature can think of their own benefit but Judiciary is a voice of common people and to keep check whether the government is violating rights common people so Judiciary should take care of it
No judiciary in India is full of nepotism...and that's why judicial reforms which is a very important is being always delayed.... There is more checks on legislation like press, people's protest, elections...but no checks on judiciary...so I don't think we should make judiciary more powerful than legislative...both must be equally important..

I think judiciary must be the strongest in any country because it works for delivering justic to each and every citizen of this country.
Judiciary has to be independent in making decisions but it has to be responsible for providing detailed information about its decisions which should make sense and must be beneficiary for the country as a whole
No need for any body to be the strongest and especially the justice system because it will rather again create a supreme power
But the way judicial system of this country has been struggling feels so painful
@@Siberian_Khatru. judiciary's job is to interpret the law.
We have checks and balances. No one pillar to be too strong.
Look at how the judiciary is being used to take away bodily autonomy in USA.

In a democratic county with federal features, Supreme court must be more powerful than the legislative organ of the state. It's independent and impartial nature makes it the apex body.
@Satyam nayak then what about the federal features ?? Which makes separation of power between all three branches of govt.

Informative. But it is unbelievable how Indira’s actions have been painted as well intentioned and she has been painted as a victim. While some so called positives of the Emergency have been highlighted, there is no word on the assault on personal Liberty and outrageous atrocities against media, opposition and public in general.

Neither Judiciary nor Legislature should be more powerful than the other. There should be balance of power between all 3 organs of government to ensure smooth checks and balances. If one is more powerful than the other then there's no mechanism left for checks and balances.

What do u think of last 7 year of judiciary?

1. In 1975, JP led a peoples' to march to the Parliament. (One of the largest rallies held in the capital)
2. Should mentioned, the name of the Allahabad High Court Justice name Jagmohan Lal Sinha
3. Shah Commision
4. Amendment

It was very heartening to see a recapitulation of the 1975 emergency and the cruel and autocratic rule of Indira Gandhi. The reason that it was heartening was that we all know what happened as a result: Indira Gandhi was toppled, no matter for how long. If it could happen to her, this recap gives us hope that it can happen again today. Perhaps Modi's juggernaut can also be brought to a dead stop by us citizens. We now have the added advantage of being able to communicate freely with the entire world, something which citizens of that time did not have.
So there is some hope we can recapture our freedom again !
Lol indira came back and was wining every election after 1980. She got killed not defeated
Will take time but ... Modi will go... Indian people still need to suffer more to learn solid lessons
Wrong
It was clearly an election fraud by her opposition, I.e traitors like JP and Desai who wanted to create Anarchy
Asking any older generation people it's clear that She was very popular, among people especially among the working class and oppressed sections
Victory in 1980 says everything
👍👍👍👍

Thanks for the English subtitles. Fantastic way of putting the story chronologically. 3 branches of governments should be balanced with powers with non of them having more power or overlapping powers on each other.
