The Sequels on the other hand have gotten barely anything. And what little they have has been shared with other eras. Not to mention that there has been loads of prequel and OT media coming out at the same time. So kids today have no reason to see the Sequal era as definitive when it's among so much non-sequal stuff to watch as well like Mando, Rebels, Clone Wars, Bad Batch, Rogue One

As a big prequel, Clone Wars and sequel fan, especially as a fan of TROS, I just want ALL of the sequels to “age” better and find more acceptance, regardless of how it happens. The sequel hate-base and all the extreme hate and toxicity against it and sequel fans, especially since August and the Acolyte cancelation, have destroyed a lot of my desire to watch Star Wars, and I don’t feel drawn to it the same way anymore. (I know, this is something extremely chronically online and really unhealthy to say.) If I were to see more genuine love and acceptance for ALL of the sequels, more DIRECT NON-LEGO show material, more material DIRECTLY WITHIN the sequels and with the cast, and more visibility and love for sequel fans, I’d actually feel better as a person, and a fan, and I’d be so mentally better.
I don’t think they’ll age well. The prequels have been redeemed partially over time but also partially because there was something that most people thought was worse to compare it to with the sequel trilogy. If Disney makes a worse product of that scale then the sequels will likely be redeemed but if not they’ll always stay as the low point for Star Wars one way or another
I don't think I could get over the convoluted return of Palpatine in Rise of Skywalker, how it took away from Rey's realization of her parents being nobodies, how in the novelization explained Palpatine's return as him actually being a clone, which by the Clone Troopers' relationship with Jango Fett would mean Rey fought her uncle, not her grandpa, especially since her father was a clone too.
My idea to save the sequels is not to make expanded materials for them but a special edition sort of deal with lines change's/added, re structure scenes, added effects, rescored music, add eliminate scenes along with new ones, and most important eliminate the scenes that confused the plot or are not important enough.
One thing to consider is that the prequels only started to get re-evaluated after the 'prequel era' was over. Lucas is no longer in charge, and the problems of the Prequel Trilogy are very much in the past. The Star Wars content being made now is not plagued by the same issues that the prequels had. In a way, that's all ancient history and easily forgiven now it's over. Unfortunately, it's not the same for the sequels. The trilogy is over, but the 'Disney Era' is still going, and a lot of the same issues that plagued that trilogy (creative differences behind the scenes, lack of long-term planning, lack of consistent creative vision) are still plaguing Star Wars today. I think the sequels will only be re-evaluated in the eyes of the fandom when the problems of the Sequel Trilogy are no longer present in the new content, when the 'Sequel Era' is officially over.
There's another factor that makes these films age worse than the prequels. While the prequels go from worst to best, the sequels go from best to worst (my favorite is actually TFA, but I'm talking about general sentiments here). This makes them better at the box office as people get hooked by a promising first film, but makes them worse in terms of legacy.
@@Gamegedon.900I don’t believe we will be wrong. I still even find flaws in the prequels even though they do have plenty of great stuff that make me appreciate them more. I just don’t see a lot of that in the sequels, especially in the department of the characters.
As a fan of the sequel trilogy, I am disappointed there isn’t much material during that era other than a show, a few books and comics. Those stories are good but still it would be nice to see more stories. Regardless of that, I once and while watch the movies because I enjoy them so much. No matter what, the sequel trilogy era is amazing imo
not really a ST fan however I love Resistance and genuinely think it's a better show than The Mandalorian. I'd love to see Scott Lawrence make a cameo as Jarek Yeager in S2 of Ahsoka or something
I discovered Star Wars only a few years before watching The Force Awakens. I didn't find the prequels that bad, probably because the dubbing fixing a few bad acting moments and I wasn't that keen on the main trilogy. I found The Force Awakens really great, The Last Jedis was meh and for The Rise of Skywalker, I just didn't care anymore.
I don’t believe they will. Just look at the insanely bad ideas or good ideas that weren’t executed well. The Last Jedi is full of the latter while having some of the former, while The Rise of Skywalker will certainly age like milk because of the many bad ideas it had.
Hi there! Full disclosure, yes, i am one of those people who strongly dislikes Disney's sequel trilogy, this was an interesting video nonetheless. And yes, fans getting a little bit crazy is nothing new. You would think people could keep their tempers in check over the years... However, just a thought to put to you about these points, because I daresay the Sequels will age similarly to the Prequels to SOME Extent, but not the same one as the Prequels had, because: 1-Do people really think the Prequels are good now? Or have they just put their problems with it to rest and embraced them despite any flaws? 2-Can a Clone-Wars esque-show help the Sequels as the Clone Wars helped the Prequels? TCW had the advantage of it only needing to stick to the single vision of the Prequels, but put that in a better light. A show like that for the Sequels somehow needs to balance the three separate visions of the three films as they were at odds with one another. 3-Will the kids of the Sequels have a bigger voice than they used to? The Prequels came out only at the dawn of social media, and even then just on the precursors to modern social media. Most prequel kids would not have been avle to voice their opinions back then. But the Sequels came out in the modern social media landscape, and while the younger kids naturally would not be (or should not have been) on such platforms, the older Sequel kids would have been on and defending it in greater numbers than the prequel kids would have. 4-The Force Awakens is by far the most popular of the three sequels, but will the others get the same love? Speaking to some friends I know, they still regard TFA fondly, but TJ remains divisive, and TROS gets little love at all.
The prequels are easier to talk about now I think because there was at least an idea. A horribly written badly acted sloppily directed type of idea, but it’s still an idea. And it’s easier to engage in discussions and conversations based off that idea. I don’t think the prequels should be forgiven for their faults, they’re still badly made films that don’t hold up to the originals in the slightest, but there is something there, and we also got banger Star Wars games taken place in awesome settings in the prequels. The sequels don’t really have that, because it was produced by a big corporation that wasn’t interested in coming up with an idea the way George did. For George at least it was about both money and a story. That’s the big difference. There’s nothing to talk about with the sequels. So I don’t think it’ll age like the prequels, but who knows. They said the same thing about the prequels back then
Not unless David Fintoli is still in charge. And gives Disney some bad advice because he helped with the Clone Wars and the last Airbender gosh dang it. I mean using the prequels writing worked so well with wish
No, because the sequels have very little to do with the Skywalker Saga. It's like a whole different story. Plus the way Luke is treated in the last Jedi is upsetting.
The ST is essentially the same story of the OT. Rey being a Palpatine is just a detail. The story is a fairy tale in outer space... once again. At least the prequels turned the fairy tale into a Greek tragedy. Luke in TLJ is not the worst of the movie, by the way. At least it is a try to move on the story.
The problem is it's a break in the story. The prequels are about Anakin. The OT is about Luke and redeeming his father. The sequels should Show Luke training the next Jedi. While there is mention about his school, it doesn't show him training in that school, it shows him giving up, and then reluctantly training Rey. And then he is gone.
You know where were a lot of supporting information and strong interesting characters for entire sequel trilogy? Legends. And they cut it off like it was nothing 😞. Another thing that makes me sad is nobody cares what happened in the books. What is the point of reading them then? If nobody cares about continuity then what is the point of all of it?
@@quangamershyguyyz7166 "Dumb writing moments" Spoken like a true wordsmith. I wonder why George wasn't coming to you for help when writing the prequels. You're obviously very skilled at it.
Being soft reboots kills them. The prequels, poorly written and produced as they are, excite the imagination, so kids who grew up with them soften the rough parts in their minds. As you said, TCW and so on help with that. The sequels are simplistic and repetitive. If you watch the 9 films as a set, you see the young hero going to a remote, nearly deserted wet planet to request help from an old Jedi master, but they find that Jedi masters don't act how they expected. Meanwhile, the 2 side characters go to a seedy criminal planet to seek allies, but they're double-crossed and sold out to the enemy force. The hero gets some amount of training and goes to reunite with their friends, but they aren't effective enough to save the day. The villain shares distressing information about the hero's parents, and the movie ends on a bittersweet note highlighting how much more needs to be done. Then you see it again 3 movies later. It's more Stormtroopers, more Star Destroyers, more desert planet, more freedom fighters, more of the same. And, 1 year or 10 years later, it's the inferior version.
I was also like 8 when the sequels came out and I initialy liked it but as i got older the plot holes and other issues stuck out to me so much that I consider it garbage
I don’t think that the sequels themselves will be loved. They’re a jumbled mess of different directors stories and ideas, the majority of new shows have very poor writing which isn’t going to help them going further.
No, one of the reasons the prequel aged better was because the sequels were os bad people took another look at the prequels and realized they weren't half bad.
Personally I don't think they will have as much of come back as the Prequels. I was 7 when I watched TFA, and from what I've experienced at school and stuff none of us really liked the Sequels. The Sequels will definitely become more loved but I doubt it will be close to as much as the prequels came back.
@@TheLastCommander8 that's a good measure of it I think because I was 7 when episode 3 came out and at school most people loved the prequels and didn't even really separate them tbh
The sequel trilogy is love/hate relationship for me. Force Awakens was the first Star Wars movie I saw in theaters. I was absolutely in love with Rey. I even had a costume of her scavenger outfit. And I was so excited for Rise of Skywalker. But now that I’m older, I do acknowledge its flaws. Palpatine coming back, Luke hiding, Han being killed off, the mediocre writing. But I still hold them since it’s the trilogy I grew up with. Not a really good trilogy, but a fun one
As someone like me who really loves this trilogy and yes I do love this trilogy guys so i don't expect you guys to come down to my comment and start bashing the hell out of me and my opinion over these movies. But anywho I definitely agree that it's pretty weird that we haven't seen these characters for about 5 years because of the hate and backlash the flims ended up getting. And yeah i know they have a few books Coimc's and novelizations going over this era but I would've liked to see a Disney Plus Clone wars Bad Batch Animated Style Series expanding more on these characters especially Kylo I would be down for it.
Last Jedi specifically will age well I think because a lot of the hate for it was lore reasons especially regarding the treatment of Luke. If you grew up with TLJ Luke just being his character that criticism is just much less relevant. As an example I grew up a massive prequel fan so I have never got the criticism that Yoda shouldn't use a lightsaber because from my perspective I've always known him to use one. All this being said though I think RoS will never be seen as a good film because it seems to just completely go against what came before it.
Im 14 and I've got some Strong OPINIONS. Force awakens is ok I guess and rise of Skywalker is mid but the last jedi IS THE BIGGEST PICE OF DOG SHIT I DONT CAUR IF PEIPLE DEFEND THE TRILOGY BUT DO T DEFEND LAST JEDI
I agree. Over time, as more content like the Rey movie and eventually more shows in the Sequel/post-sequel era release, it will lead to more people enjoying the time period.
That hardly makes any sense. The Rey Movie is hated even before its release, the sequel movies are already considered worse than the prequels, and time isn't gonna fix it.
Personally, I very much enjoy the Sequels despite their flaws. I think the fact that these movies are still being talked about and debated means a lot and shows that there's no one defined camp of quality that these films fall into. In the end, I think these films will definitely be, if not loved, more accepted and valued among the fanbase.
Your opinion is flawed: they are still being talked about because of how bad they were, not because there's something good about them. In fact, people took another look at the prequels and realized the sequels were far worse.
I don't like the sequels because they are not sequels but remakes. A remake is the wrong way to make either a sequel or a prequel. Nevertheless I have to recognise the sequels are much better executed than any of the George Lucas' SW movies in technical terms. Perhaps that will endure.
Nope, no kids interested You are capping way too hard. havent seen a single soul that claims they are good. Prequels are still considered worse than og.
Will greater appreciating occur for the Sequel Trilogy over time? Yes. Will the Sequels age with the same kind of affection as the Prequels? HELL NO!!! 1 = Despite its flaws, the Prequels were all made by George Lucas. As a wrestling promoter would say, the Prequels "finished the story." George's characters. George's themes. George's creativity. George's talents. George's plots and subplots. It was his story to finish however he desired. On the flipside... somehow.. Disney decided to allow LucasFilm to play Hot Potato Mad Libs with its Star Wars Episodic movies. Instead of having one creative team handling the movies, LucasFilm chose three different creators with three different visions and philosophies. Thus, the Sequel films are a mess. The characters are a mess. The plots and subplots are a mess. The themes are a mess. If Colin Treverrow had stayed on for Episode 9 or if JJ Abrams had not returned for Episode 9, then the Sequel Trilogy would probably lead an even bigger mess! Whereas George Lucas had a turbulant start with Episode 1, he was able to make improvements and adjustments over the progress of the next two films while maintaining a firm heading to an ultimate endpoint. But the sequels were completely made up as they went along with zero end goal other than sell lots of tickets, toys, and theme park admissions. (Wasn't the Galaxy's Edge supposed to be in at least one of the films?) Because there was one ultimate creator with one specific roadmap and end point, the Pequels can be cherished or dismayed as a whole. On the other hand, the Sequel films are appreciated or despised individually. It is easy to find people that like at least one of the Sequels (usually Episode 7). It is challenging to find people that like two of the Sequel. But finding people that love all three Sequel films, like finding a needle in a haystack, especially if the sampling groups are folks that weren't toddlers or teenagers when the films released. 2 = Yes, the Rise Of Skywalker made over $1 billion at the global box office. What you said was true from a certain point of view. If you examine the box office takes for all three Sequel movies, Episode 9's haul is a financial embarrassment. There was a slow, steady, and undeniable decline for the films as time progressed. Episode 7 = $2.071 billion Episode 8 = $1.333 billion Episode 9 = $1.077 billion Episode 7 crossed the billion threshold by leaps and bounds... TWICE! Episode 9 barely crawled across the billion threshold once. How deliciously ironic is it that Episode 8's haul is similar to dividing a number by 3? LOL I acknowledge that the Prequel films a mixed bag at the box office, especially because "wait for home video" became a matter of months instead of years around this time. (Now it is a matter of weeks.) Episode 1 = $1.046 billon Episode 2 = $653 million Episode 3 = $850 million My point is that Episode 3 took the franchise in an upward financial trajectory. The fans and the general public were overall satisfied by the Prequel Trilogy's conclusion. As my high school headmaster would say, "Everybody always remembers how you finish." Everyone remembers the Prequels finishing on a positive note, it is much easier for the future nostalgia love to blossom beautifully. Whereas the Sequel Trilogy conclusion showcased that fans and general audiences were at a "we'll take what we can get" and/or "I cam this far. I might as well finish." or "let's just get this over with" mindsets. Whatever nostalgia tree grows for the Sequels twenty years form now, there's going to be a ton of weeds and terminates too. 3 = You brought up that the Sequels don't have a lot of notable mass media companion projects. That's undeniable. Maybe extra content will come along, but I am not sure how. The Sequels didn't leave much room for expansion. The original six movies had a couple of years between them, and we learn interesting tidbits about the main characters along the way. Whereas Episode 7 and 8 happen back-to-back. There is only a year between Episode 8 and 9, and the only thing that has seem to change are Fin and Rose's hairstyles. Heck, it would be a struggle to make a team movie with the main heroes, since Poe said that Rey spends most of her time NOT going on missions. I guess LucasFilm can make several origin movies or miniseries that take place long before or long after the movies, like its done for Andor and Solo. Considering how much both projects struggled with viewership and box office receipts respectively, Disney has to be very risk averse for the next few years. Maybe if the company went with animation instead of live action. 🤷 My point is, the timeframe of Sequels was so limited that not much more can be done. As much as I like Ahsoka Tano now, I still think it was ridiculous to cram an entire subplot of Anakin Skywalker's apprentice between Episodes 2 and 3. By hey, there was room to try and things worked out well. Where is the wiggle room for the sequels? There's not much. Unless we get the expanded stories in a mass media format, the long-term improved appreciation for the Sequels is going to struggle over the next few decades. SUMMARY = If there's one thing that Tommy Wiseau's The Room proved is that ANYTHING can amass a dedicated fanbase over time. Therefore, the Sequel films will be better beloved as the years unfold. However, the Sequels will never be appreciated within the same caliber as The Prequels. The Prequels were one man's vision with one clear goal. The Sequels were an uncoordinated game night in which the hosts tried to play Boggle, Scrabble, and Words With Friends at the same time. The Prequels ending on a high note with moviegoers, fans, merchandising, and tickets. The Sequels' success rate was like a tragic game of Limbo. How low can you go? How low can you go? The Prequels offered new planets, cultures, factions, and progress points for the main characters as well as wiggle room for several side stories inbetween. That lead to two Clone Wars, Ahsoka Tano, Asajj Ventress, Rebels, and The Bad Batch. The Sequels? Pour one out for Star Wars Resistance.🥃 Maybe we can look forwards to the adventures of Broom Boy from Canto Bight? 🤷
I was 11 years old when the Force Awakens was released. I remember being excited for it waiting to watch it first time in theaters when it came out. I really liked it. And naturally, i grew up with the sequel trilogy. I was annoyed some at the Last jedi, and was kinda confused with the Rise of Skywalker and annoyed by that as well because i feel like the writing for the sequels was just random and all over the place as i grew and looked back on it. I'm 20 years old now. Though i grew up with the sequel trilogy, i still like the prequels and orginals better, especially the originals. But i do like the visuals of the sequel trilogy, like the new planets, and kylo ren's lightsaber crossguard, his helmet, also liked the ships also, especially the designs of the FIrst order destroyers and Kylo Ren's Tie Silencer from the last jedi. When i first saw the ;ast jedi trailer of kylo ren in his tie silencer spinning and shooting up leia's crusier, i was blown away(no pun intended) i love his tie silencer, it looks so sharp and stealthy. Also love his ship in Rise of Skywalker and red marked rebuilt mask alos, thought that looked cool also. I think in retrospect of the sequel trilogy, i dont think it will age like the prequels because in my opinion the prequel trilogy had better and more consistent writing than the sequel trilogy. I do like the visualization of some of the effects and designs of the sequel trilogy tho despite it not being my favorite sw trilogy. I think the sequels could have been better no doubt. Ive even heard much about the alternate episode 9 script "Duel of the fates" named after the one theme of naboo of course. But seeing some of the concept art and storyline of it(free online btw, which is awesome). I saw kylo rens fighter on Coruscant, Finn leading a stormtrooper rebellion, rey with double-bladed lightsaber, huge battle at coruscant on land and in space. And even a super star destroyer for Kylo Ren!. Just seeing and learning about that of that version of episode 9, if we actually had that for episode 9 instead of rise of skywalker, That would have been really epic and awesome. I would absolutely love to see something like that into a film. But in short, i dont think the sequels are as good as the prequels or originals, but if it gets more background depth in making more sense in the future, you know, filling the gaps, I think the sequels got some potential to be made better you know. So those are my thoughts about it.
The one film that should age better is The Last Jedi, when people realise it's literally the Empire Strikes Back up until the Holdo Maneuver. If only they cut the master codebreaker (straight to being arrested, finding DJ) and had Rose sacrifice herself to save Finn.
I think they will go from disliked to “hey, these exist.” A casual viewer will probably find them entertaining. I don’t think they will be praised for as many particularly thought provoking ideas in the way Lucas incorporated psychological motifs. TLJ will probably garner the most serious discussion, while a vastly different kind than what came before. These really are high budget fan films self-advertised as part of Lucas’ story, and I think the second half of that statement is the biggest reason for grievance, because they won’t have entirely adhered to the cohesive storytelling principles in 1-6. I think they’ll average to a bit above a neutral view.
No the force awakens was the first starwars movie I saw in theatres and I hate them I was their perfect target audience grew up loving the prequels and they lost me with the last Jedi and everything else just like most fans
In my opinion: Yes. Why? Prequels state back then was "trash" until prequel kids grow up and OG fans moved one. Guess what. Sequel kids will also grow up. But even now I often see something about sequels what isn't negative, like cosplay, edit etc. As George said: It's like phoetry, it's rhymes."

However, just a thought to put to you about these points, because I daresay the Sequels will age similarly to the Prequels to SOME Extent, but not the same one as the Prequels had, because:
1-Do people really think the Prequels are good now?

@@aidans1028 I know. But he still co director
At least it is a try to move on the story.
oh jesus you sound like a broken record
The problem is it's a break in the story. The prequels are about Anakin. The OT is about Luke and redeeming his father. The sequels should Show Luke training the next Jedi. While there is mention about his school, it doesn't show him training in that school, it shows him giving up, and then reluctantly training Rey. And then he is gone.

Yes they will ❤
Being soft reboots kills them.
I was also like 8 when the sequels came out and I initialy liked it but as i got older the plot holes and other issues stuck out to me so much that I consider it garbage

prequel sequel different hate never happened because rey
The sequel trilogy is love/hate relationship for me. Force Awakens was the first Star Wars movie I saw in theaters. I was absolutely in love with Rey. I even had a costume of her scavenger outfit. And I was so excited for Rise of Skywalker.
But now that I’m older, I do acknowledge its flaws. Palpatine coming back, Luke hiding, Han being killed off, the mediocre writing. But I still hold them since it’s the trilogy I grew up with. Not a really good trilogy, but a fun one
actually its boring terrible because of mary sue
Yes, that too. Rey is a Mary sue for sure. But I can still find fun watching them. If you have a problem with that, keep it to yourself.
No rey garbage
Personally, I very much enjoy the Sequels despite their flaws. I think the fact that these movies are still being talked about and debated means a lot and shows that there's no one defined camp of quality that these films fall into.
In the end, I think these films will definitely be, if not loved, more accepted and valued among the fanbase.
Your opinion is flawed: they are still being talked about because of how bad they were, not because there's something good about them. In fact, people took another look at the prequels and realized the sequels were far worse.

@@dnaseb9214 Imagine being THIS MUCH of an idiot.
(Wasn't the Galaxy's Edge supposed to be in at least one of the films?)
Because there was one ultimate creator with one specific roadmap and end point, the Pequels can be cherished or dismayed as a whole.
Episode 7 = $2.071 billion
Episode 8 = $1.333 billion
Episode 9 = $1.077 billion
Episode 7 crossed the billion threshold by leaps and bounds... TWICE! Episode 9 barely crawled across the billion threshold once. How deliciously ironic is it that Episode 8's haul is similar to dividing a number by 3? LOL
I acknowledge that the Prequel films a mixed bag at the box office, especially because "wait for home video" became a matter of months instead of years around this time. (Now it is a matter of weeks.)
Episode 1 = $1.046 billon
Episode 2 = $653 million
Episode 3 = $850 million
My point is that Episode 3 took the franchise in an upward financial trajectory.
My point is, the timeframe of Sequels was so limited that not much more can be done.
The sequel trilogy SUCKS
(except for the force awakens I actually kinda like that one but FUCK the rest)
Ask us again in 2040. If we live that long.
No, because The Force Awakens was a rip off of A New Hope, The Last Jedi is a boring soap opera, and The Rise Of Skywalker is actual dog shit.
😂😂😂😂 No Way!
They are gonna age like fine wine.
