i believe IMAP configuration does not need "leave a copy on server" setting compulsory. correct me if i am wrong, because i thing as in IMAP mails are on the server only, right?

You need to follow below steps: Settings of Gmail account - Forwarding and POP/IMAP - Status IMAP to be enabled - save the changes Try sending test mail again.
open your account option in the Gmail... you would see the fourth in the left -> security, click the security and scroll down.. you will find the Less secure app access option.. there you can change it to ON
