    Brother, I have ordered a mavic mini yesterday. I spent most of my budget on cameras and accessories leaving me lacking a budget for a drone, buying a Mavic mini in 2023 and seeing the excitement that you've shown making things work with mavic mini. have given me faith that I can make it work.
    Thank you for making such informative videos, with great enthusiasm.
    keep it up, Love from India.

    Using a mavic mini 1 in 2024 feels like ancient tech but its so greaet to see videos like this from 2 years ago with litchi and how quick they managed to get that tracking going. Thanks mate!! im going to get litchi now instead of buying a new drone

    I've got a Mini 2(Not Mini) and recently discovered Litchi for mapping. Did my first mapping of the property I live on and it's actually pretty rad. I'm getting into the drone biz and was worried I'd have to shelf it until I could afford any of the full size Mavics, but discovering the app saved my bacon.

    I've been toying with the idea of getting one. But, me being me, I will use it once or twice and then put it in the cupboard until the end of time.
    On a side note, I noticed the photo on the wall of you at the Ron Haslam Race School. I did this last year. Fun, but a lot of money for what it was. I could have got a drone for that 🤔

    • @SamVBikes

      Thats the exact reason I only got the mavic mini. £400 is a lot easier to swallow than spending over £1k on one and barely using it. Plus spending 400.. then if you do use it, then you know its worth getting a bigger one!
      Ahh nice! Yeah it was a great day out but felt like it was over sooo quickly!

      Its quite nice that it still seems to be updated. There was a while where Litchi didn't have any updates which concerned me. Every time I use the drone, albeit rarely, I still go to the Litchi app rather than DJI Fly which is an odd concept. The only time I use the DJI version is when the drone needs an update or calibration

    I just bought the Litchi app. It's awesome. However, my mini ran into the end of my gutter at Cruising speed (500 kmh?) so I can relate to your house incident. But the bugger bounced off and dutifully finished the waypoint script. Anyway, if tracking by GPS, what settings would I use if I wanted it to track me from the front about 2 meters above my head and about 10 meters in front of me? I'm hoping that will allow it to track around reasonable curves. Thank you!

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its annoying isn't it!! The app works by a compass so you'll have to work out what direction you're facing and then set the drone that way. Then you just adjust the height and distance accordingly. I normally adjust it in the smallest increments to see how it reacts first. Hope that helps

    • @northwestlife_9
      @northwestlife_9 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I use Litchi, but have thus far been unable to get it to follow, or track, me. Am I missing something in the set up? Do I need to start the drone, controller, then try and connect with WiFi to the drone before opening the Litchi app? Maybe use the location button? I have tried different things, but I must be doing them in the wrong order. Help? Thanks.

      @SamVBikes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hahaha! Yeah very helpful if people watch the whole vid 😂 I appreciate you for doing so!
      I'm not sure if things have changed as I haven't used my drone for a while but it was just a case of opening litchi and connecting to the drone through that instead of the DJI Fly app. I'd make sure all of your permissions in the app are on and make sure your app permissions allow everything too. I know that's stopped me with other 3rd party apps before. Which Mini do you have?

      @@SamVBikes OK, good point, maybe I have permissions turned off. I will have to check. I have the Mavic Mini, that is all I know about it. It is not the Mini 2, or whatever. I have had it for a couple of years, but don't use it as much as I should. I do mostly motovlogs and have used it when I see a place I think would look pretty cool using my drone. I am really happy with the quality of it for the price it was. If you have time, and feel like it, here is a video I shot in part with it. Any pointers on using a drone would be appreciated....

      Sounds good to me! The Mavic Mini is the one I have too, and I use mine for the same. Very rarely get it out but its normally when there is some nice scenery in that.
      Enjoyed the vid! I always find drone footage works better when its a part of the motovlog, rather than it being a separate section. So incorporate some of the drone shots as you're riding along to give people a sense of where you're riding through. For example, you could fly the drone up ahead of you in one position facing down at the road, then ride through the shot. Every time I've used drone footage as its own part, people tend to skip it!
      There's a channel I watched a LOT when I first started using my drone - it's called DroneFilmGuide. I think the couple are called Stewart & Alina. Scottish guy and his wife who shows you quick tips on how to use your drone, good shots to try etc. I should put more of them to use!

      The drone is limited in top speed In the tracking modes annoying but if you put it further away, it keeps up at faster speeds

    Great vid, one question how did you attach controller to your bars? I have a motorbike too and want to try that, also could you attach to a mtb in same way.?

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! I have a Quadlock case and mount which I use for my phone - mount the controller to the phone as usual, then mount the phone to the QL on the bars. It's surprisingly solid! I wont lie though, it's criminally overpriced for what you're getting, but it's quite frankly the best system I've ever used to mount my phone to anything! I briefly mention it at the end. Will work for mtb too as I have one on mine haha! Hope that helps!

      I doubt it would work for that.. it occasionally dropped tracking on me on a motorcycle doing 20mph so something a lot smaller, travelling a lot faster would be pretty difficult
