    Nice DIY video. I did this today on my fading lamps...and it worked perfectly. I just used the 3000 grit pad because my headlights weren't terrible, just lightly faded. An hour later I was looking at almost new headlights! I mainly bought this kit for the drill velcro adapter. Definitely worth the money!

    Thank you. Looking at fixing my headlights and what is involved, but the commercials always make it seem like you just do the last step (the buffing) and you are good go. LOL. This is great!

    For that little bit of light frost all you needed was that buffing dome and some mothers mag and aluminum polish, after a couple passes you'd have crystal clear lights and then wipe and apply a wax sealer.

    I like the mcquires two step better. I really like their coating spray after you done polishing it with the wax formula.

    Thanks for the vid, thumbs way up! Question how long did this last before you had to go back over it again. I'm guessing there is some maintaining of the headlamps that has to be done after this procedure, not a one time deal.

    Thanks for this great video.
    I’ve seen a couple other brands that after the 3000 step and final polish they provided a wipe soaked with a fluid that sort of melts the surface and makes it super clear by a chemical action. You chose to go a couple of extra steps on your own with 2 additional products that are basically just different polishing products. I love Mothers but I’m wondering why they don’t provide that wipe with the solution as a final step after the foam ball.

    I bought Maguires Nulenz from Amazon. I must've bought $100 for all my stuff sanding paper, maguires, Mothers Aluminum Mag, etc. etc. (they saw me coming, I guess). But, I plan to do 3 vehicles and I'm including scraches etc.

    I bought this kit and, while it did work, it was pretty much a complete waste of money. I got a better result with $3 worth of assorted wet&dry sand papers and a bottle of Brasso polish, then some clearcoat. Total cost $10, compared to over $50 for the nulens kit.

    I am kind of curious, how long is the restoration good for? Will this process keep them clear for a while or will I have to do this process every month to keep them clear again?

    • @infowazz
      @infowazz 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      it lasts months. i think if you spray clear coat when you're done it will seal it.

    I purchased this kit today. The paper they provide wasnt near enough to get my head lights looking new again. I'm going to hit it with some 400 and 600, then 1500 and 3000 again, then polish and see how it goes. This is the first mothers product that hasnt worked perfectly for me.

    Noticed the soap while sanding. Did you use water or the power plastic liquid when sanding??

  • @rsalgado29
    @rsalgado29 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Did you use just water to do the sanding?

    Just a quick question do you recommend doing this in a shaded area? I know just like cleaning glass. We should do it where the sun doesn’t shine but I’m just curious if that would make a difference with this process

    Wet sand the lens by hand instead of using the drill, you could severely scratch the lens, it has better results.

    I do not recommend this kit if: 1) You generally don't do DIY things on your car and/or 2) if you've never done this before and your own headlights are the first headlights you practice this kit on. I usually let professionals do things to my car as I am not the tinkerer kind of person, but I really wanted to give this a try as it seemed straightforward. I followed the instructions as best as I could, and generally I do this very well, lol. But, of course with the first round of wet sanding using the 800 grit sand paper, I permanently left circular scratches in the headlight housing. They are pretty deep and I wasn't able to sand them out. I continued with the instructions, and when I got to the dry sanding using the 3000 grit sand paper, the pad shredded and left a black-ish stain on the housing, like tar or something. I couldn't get it out using any of the lower grit paper. At the end I managed to make it look somewhat decent, but the tar and initial scratches are still there. I didn't perform this on the other side headlight. So yeah, go to a professional if you are like me.

    Or you can just use a couple of applications of Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish...

      I used water and it was fine for me. Don't see why you'd dry sand personally.

    • @jimmyzee8280
      @jimmyzee8280 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL, I did same as you (reading off box) without water and scratched the heck out of it, but It does have instructions in box says to use water.

    • @shaunskii
      @shaunskii 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably best to use water for a wet sand I would think. Dry method would release alot of plastic dust in the air that you don't want to be inhaling or getting all over you and your clothes. Water would help contain it.
