I leveled in the DLC to 176 and this is not cool because NG+ base game is a joke then. I think the game needs an option to lower the overall lvl like waste some points at Rennala.
I saw the no hit runner ongbal backstep and then roll into radahn twice to avoid taking damage for the three swings that is hard to dodge idk if it works on med roll but it works consistently on light roll
My favorite post I saw that pretty much summed up this whole fight *me dodging a combo for 20 seconds straight and getting killed for trying to fit in a 2 hit light combo* “Damn, got greedy again.”
@@GearsOfCakeyeah, that's the most difficult and bullshit fight of the dlc, but not for that reason. Not finding when to attack is a skill issue or expecting the game to play like dark souls.
@@bonjour7209 Why is it people like you two can never just humor people? Like what are you even trying to prove? We’ve all killed the boss already so we’ve all learned its moves, so it’s not even a skill issue or whatever at this point. It’s an exaggerative JOKE about a HARD BOSS. So who is your message even for?
So funny, isn't it? They need to upgrade something, bosses are just watching them with 15 combos, aoe attacks and follow up and basically 1 second window for in light attack...bad playability
Phase 2 is annoying, especially when he locks you down with the God beams, does the teleport slashes and then tries to grab you. Because of that, I try to dodge and get grabbed. And let's say God beams come down and he's swinging, you can't see when to parry and get slammed anyway. THAT is bullshit
I actually think phase 2 is pretty fair, relatively speaking. The issue is the visual clutter of the holy beams. It's hard and stuff is multihit so it's still hard, but if the light beams/holy clones were easier to see through, I dint think that second phase would be overly hard. But man, those clones? That shits just RUDE
I always barely get into the second phase and 3 things happen whenever i do: he destros me with the multiple teleport attacks, he grabs my mimic twice in row, who btw i think likes miquella, and then does the teleport attack on me or he just goes ham and 99 hit combo my ass
@lilelf7342 😂 bro same I immediately knew how to dodge almost everything in phase 1. The grav pull and slam being the exception at first and even ran out of the aoe first time. Still didn't touch the boss again.

I dont agree, this guy has some bullshit attacks, but his bullshit attacks dont one shot you, like Melanias does, plus he doesnt heal off hitting you, Melania is way harder in my opinion
Thats an insane exaggerated malenia is still one of the hardest bosses in elden ring, she has 2 health bars, a near undodgeable move, and heals off of hits shes probably like 3rd hardest rn
I honestly dont know whose working harder: me fighting for my life against the boss, or my computer fighting for its life against all of miquella’s particle effects

Same. I managed to beat him alone with mimic but on NG+ I'm determined to do it solo. Spent 3 hours yesterday and got close but not far enough, now I'm at work watching guides and trying to remember stuff for my revenge tonight
The first time for me, I beated all the souls games multiple times even if I think Malenia was harder she took me 250+ tries now I'm at around 40 tries on this and already can no damage the first phase (except that bullshit X attack)
It's a second time for me. Brings back old memories how I was watching through all guides trying to understand how to dodge that freaking waterfowl dance
The biggest problem with his second phase is I just can’t see what he’s doing because the light blocks his wind up so I have no idea what attack he’s doing and where to dodge
For mimic tear users… if you have a raw meat dumpling equip it in your hot bar. Your mimic tear is immune to the poison effect it gives and will be able to heal multiple times with it with no downside.
NUMBER ONE FUCKING TIP RIGHT HERE. KILLED HIM FIRST TRY AFTER. I used Bloodhound Fang, crimson seed talisman +1, DCGS, haligdrake talisman +2, claw talisman. Hard tear and winged for fisick.
First boss, in any souls game where I've had to google a guide because so much of P2 is just "I have no idea how I'm meant to dodge that". Meteors now followed by teleporting slashes, spinning attack now followed by teleporting explosions. You run, you spam roll, you try to time rolls. It all hits you anyway and on top of that usually 1 shots you. This boss felt like FromSoft couldn't find a way to up the anty in terms of difficulty anymore, so just gave everything double aftershocks, blinding lights and super speed. It's not good boss design when people feel the need to google how to fight it.
Many people have to google Melania but it still is a good fight imo. Radahn isn't one because of how restrictive this fight is, you are basically DS rollong all over the place.
Yeah that last part is just completely untrue. For my first playthrough, I had to look up how to beat Isshin & Demon Of Hatred in Sekiro, Sister Friede & Midir in DS3 & Malenia & Rykard (Yes, MF Rykard) In Elden Ring. Sometimes there's just something that hasn't clicked yet you keep doing wrong, And you get so heated and keep trying to force it, And keep dying, It's totally normal when that happens & There's nothing wrong with looking up a guide to see what your doing wrong. I died to that Snake boss in Nioh 2 for an eternity before I finally watched a video and learned I just had to cut off his little snake arms. Something pretty simple that i somehow didn't think to do, It's not bad boss design, I just refused to switch up my attacks & Think of different ways to approach the fight.
@@butterschunkmcdonalds5333 As much as I respect what they went for phase 2 feels a little too bullshitty. At least we could've had Torrent to escape some of the explosions or AOEs for a faster paced fight. Plus it would be fitting for Torrent to witness Miquella's end since he abandoned him to ride Radahn.
phase bosses suck because you dont get to practice, essentially, everytime you die in phase two you have to 1. run back up, 2. reapply your buffs, 3. go through all of phase 1 again. and all of that takes like 5 minutes or more. and by the time you get back to that point their are still phase 2 attacks you havent seen yet. its ridiculous, especially when that second phase is just even harder by such a significant degree. yeah the attacks are somewhat similair, but the attack agression and tempo are completely different plus multiple undodgable attacks you just have to know are undodgable.
Best build for this boss: - Poison/Blood Antspur Raiper or any Poison/Bleed Spear, Great Spear or Thrusting Sword (I used the Barbed Staff-Spear) - Any 100% Greatshield with Barricade Shield AOW - Greatshield Talisman - Dragoncrest Greatshield - Pearldrake Talisman +3/Twin-Turtle Neck Talisman/Spear Talisman - Viridian Amber Medallion +3 If this guy's gonna cheese you with his bullet hell of a Phase 2, you cheese that shit right back. Other things that you can throw in, but are optional and not needed: - Golden Vow (Preferably Incantation, but the AOW or Consumable work just as well) - Protection of the Erdtree (He deals Magic, Holy *and* Fire damage, making this incredibly helpful) - Immutable Shield (This boosts non-Physical negations on your Shield; if you use the Erdtree Greatshield, you can get 100% Physical and Holy Negation for Phase 2) - Scholar's Shield (Same as Immutable Shield, but increases Guard Boost and Physical and Magic Negation) - Blessing's Boon/Blessing of the Erdtree (Keeps you topped off and out of danger when Radahn decides he's going to have a tantrum and wail on you for 5 minutes) - Heal from Afar (If you're playing with Summons or Spirits, this is a great tool to have when you're not holding aggro; fastest cast heal with healing comparable with Erdtree Heal with high Faith for half the cost, whilst also being able to stay out of aggro range to use it) - Mimic Tear Ashes (Again, fight cheese with cheese. Swap out the Viridian Amber for the Crimson Amber and a regen spell and he/she will probably never die) - Greatshield Soldier Ashes (Do NOT sleep on these Ashes. They're one of the few Ashes with AI worth a damn and will block absolutely everything that hits them from the front. They get mulched pretty quick in Phase 2 though, so keep that in mind) This boss, whilst a spectacle of its own, has gotta be the most bs thing FromSoft has ever come up with. I'm pretty sure Miyazaki even fears what he's created. If you're more of a casual player like me, don't be afraid to cheese the ever living hell out of this guy. Turtle Builds are easily the most effective builds to take into this guy, so don't be afraid to whip one up on the spot. Edit: I forgot about the Physick X3. I used the Opaline Hard Tear and the Viridianburst Crystal Tear for extra defences and stamina regen. You could easily swap out the Viridianburst Tear for any other Tear of your liking though and free up a Talisman slot, although this fight *will* last more than 3 minutes, so bare that in mind.
Yea I think that’s accurate. I beat it with the bloodfiend arm but this was what I was going to switch to if it didn’t work out. Took 3-4 hours. Also I was doing the hard mode version. Bloodfiend might be better for the easier one though. Since you do so much damage you can kill him pretty fast
Thank you. Was losing my mind after 4 hours & I said F this. After 30 minutes set up totally wrecked the twink without any flask used. Just keep in mind the combo finishers & your stamina and you should be good. Twin turtle is a must for me to regain stamina right away
@@quinnswanson8658 if you summon thiollier and aunsbach for the fight radahn has way more health. And the summons do no damage and will be dead in a few minutes
It needs nerfed into the ground. It’s absolutely fucking ridiculous. I didn’t really have any bother with any of dlc bosses, but Radahn phase 2 is an utter piss take. I’m 120+ tries in and I can’t get him further than 50% health. Phase 2 is just constant agro with zero recovery time. You shouldn’t have to beat a boss by getting all the moves perfect like this video. It’s just unrealistic.
Exactly the same. I haven't got him below 50% but a few times and the first attempt I got the closest. Like the software hadn't seen me yet and he wasn't ready. I got it to 25% and I've gotten nowhere near that or seen him move that slow again. I think there won't be another chance like that. I'm over a 100 tries and it's getting worse it seems. Where I could punish he is now spamming the x combo or the stupid grab into the meteor attack. Its either that or his longest combos back to back that's like 20 dodges for maybe two hits. Completely terrible design@@joshhobson2340
literally. i dont know how people aren’t talking about it more. genuinely one of the most bullshit phases to a boss ive ever seen and its “difficulty” is purely based on that fact that he has lots of bright attacks/afterimage/projectiles/nukes that all lower your games frame rate. and im playing on a AMD RX 7800 XT with a 13th gen 15-13600kf. very decent system and yet this boss fight still tanks my frames in thebsecond phase every single time. on top of the fact that when you actually manage to get close to Radahn you cant see what attack hes throwing in second phase because Miquellas fucking hair covers his swords whenever they go above his head. lazy fight design completely and utterly.
The cross slash attack is broken and actually unfair. The worst part about this fight once you get down the pattern is the cross slash and the amount of holy on the screen preventing you from reading moves because you can’t see a damn thing.
As someone who’s done it a few times now, it’s one of the most tedious fights to learn. Cool presentation but my god it is painful. Brain rot is the perfect way to describe this fight, just spam dodge into him or behind him for your one punish, rinse and repeat, be blinded by the light show. Feels like a modded dark souls 3 boss
The second phase is absolutely horrible, it feels like I'm not even allowed to heal with one flask after dodging majority of his moves besides the grab. I genuinely am not able to learn his moveset. Even worse I got no idea which weapon to use against this mf in the second phase. Idk if its the tilt but I'm really not enjoying this boss fight after 4 hrs in. Never had this with Messmer
@@seeNoEvilhearNoEvil_your time to heal is any of the moments in this guide when he says you have time for a heavy attack. Definitely requires learning the moves to consistently get windows to heal
@@seeNoEvilhearNoEvil_ I genuinely believe most Elden ring bosses actually get too much crap from fans for being too aggressive(you can usually create a lot of openings with smart positioning), but with this fight there is no aggression that is tolerated, no positioning tactics to create more damage openings. Just learn the long combos and get one attack off. Genuinely boring gameplay compared to the rest of the boss roster.
@@bigsmall2842there are a number of moves that can be punished with an extra attack if your positioning and timing are good. It's tight, but possible.
@@bigsmall2842Yeah, in this fight Radahn is playing the game, not you. I tried playing a bit more actively and risky after getting his first phase down to get a stance break or two but he just does too much damage and staggers you too much for it to be viable. A single mistake and you're done.
The only thing I disagree on with this guide is the gravity pull attack. Spam rolling is inconsistent.. I find immediately running away after getting sucked in and then jumping out is really consistent to avoid damage
NOT in the 2nd phase, yes i do the exact same strategy but in 2nd phase he does some bs, after you are being sucked in he jumps to do it again with some before effects
It depends on how far the game pulls you I too. Sometimes I get pulled in to 5 feet in front of him and can run away. Otherwise I get pulled into his feet and there is no escape
Just beat him: Blasphemous blade was the weapon of choice Full Rakshasa armor set Golden braid, shard, fire scorpion, talisman of the dread Physick: flame shrouding, bloodsucking Incants for buffs: before traversing use black flames protection, blessing of the erdtree, golden vow, flame grant me strength. A big part of this was using taylew the golem summon, he tanks and pulls aggro which is extremely important. Three L2’s in phase one got him down to half health. Phase 2 immediately run and use lords divine fortification incant for holy protection. Five more L2’s and he’s done. This build was designed to straight out-dps him and kill him before he has a chance to really do anything, that’s why taylew is so important so he can pull aggro while you attack. After I put this build together I beat him first try. Oh and I also used radahns great rune lol
My main issue I had with his phase 2 were not necessarly his new move set but rather the insane fps drops i got from some of his new moves, consistant 60 fps all throughout the game and every boss fight to suddendly droping to 30 mid animation, for this fight only i reduced the quality of lighting, effects, atmospherics and it became more manageable. An other tip for that attack were he does his 4 after image attacks those don't deal a lot of damage and don't cause a lot of stamina loss when blocked so if you can't avoid the first one, take a blocking stance count the after images and then dodge to the side
Literally happened to me last night fighting him, i heal after running from that huge holy attack at the start of 2nd phase and my game freezes due to how many frames are dropping and i die right when it fixes, my ps5 goint through it with all those flashing beams
Now, imagine how this feels to all of us still playing in PS4. The best we get is 30fps, and it's becoming extremely clear that Fromsoft is not designing these new bosses with 30fps in mind. Every single time i see footage my buddy sends me of him playing on next-gen, all I can think is, "man, that looks incredibly more manageable." Messmer and Consort Radahn on PS4 is a complete joke.
My ps5’s frames dipped during the dancing lion, I don’t think phase 2 is gonna be happening on this console for me if I can even MAKE it to the second phase once
Thank you so much!! I’ve mastered phase one and get get to phase 2 most of the time!!!!! Most of the guides I’d search up would basically tell me to change my build, but instead of doing that you actually just helped me learn the patterns! Tysm man
Nah shield builds have always been very good it’s just become more apparent in the dlc cause these bosses attacks are just ridiculous and blocking it with a shield makes it easy mode
Great shield were never useless one of my easiest playthrough was golden great shield with axe executioners great axe Mesmer also gets countered by great shields
Last time I used a shield was in Dark Souls 1, maybe 12 years ago I've played the whole main game + DLC with an INT build without much trouble, even managed to get Radahn P1 most time but Radahn P2 was impossible for me, had to use the old turtle method again after all these years
i do 3k dmg with piercing fang. no need for voodoo. thing is it does not give you the space to hit him. though i only tried once and died at %40 remaining
@@samplexample use greatshield talisman, marikas talisman, pearldrake+3 and even on ng+7 consort radan deals funny damage to your stamina and health. I don't know why fromsoftware made him so weak for the great shield users
Legit this is the first time I've even looked up a guide as to how to beat a boss. I've viewed many other guides/walkthroughs of yours. First time I've given into 3rd party material for the boss i'm currently struggling on though. Thank you for your efforts! Always clutch. I'm like 60+ tries in and going insane though. I mean 80% of the time he is doing a move as soon as you come through the foggate and it is relentless. And the input reading on estus/buffs omg. Also... I thought that most bosses aggro'd the last person to hit them typically, but this dude just hits whatever he wants whenever it is convenient. Which is smarter AI, harder, but my goodness, the 180s. Annoyed at the "git gud" comments or ppl that are likely playing some utterly ridiculous builds being like "it isn't even that hard". Bro when they post their video on "how to beat this radahn without spamming ashes of war, greatweapon strong/jump attacks, or status applying behind a great shield" then maybe I'll be like oh... But relying on well timed swings with anything that isn't 4/5 shotting the boss or less the fight is a real struggle. It isn't just "git gud" it is be gud for this entire fight and the extra 80 animations you have to avoid that the other builds don't even think about. The boss is legit hard and its even hard on the more powerful builds but ppl really like to pretend.
The only boss in Fromsofts history that I said fuck it and summoned. Thiollier, Ansbach and mimic tear. The DLC is so exhaustingly difficult that I had no energy left by the end and just wanted to finish and move on. I still think it's an amazing DLC but I hope this level of aggression is reduced in future games.
I definitely feel you about the Radahn marathon. He was... something else. Though, I didn't feel like the other bosses were hard at all, except Divine Beast and Rellana, and maybe Gaius (but by then, I had actual Scadutree Blessings).
I played all Fromsoft games and have most of them on plat... I think this is one of those rare bosses that are not even fun. They tried too hard to make him hard but forgot to make it fair. Usually death doesn't even feel like it's your fault.
That one attack he does that is basically unavoidable ruins the fight for me. Don’t know what FromSoft was thinking with that attack. It is literally too fast to dodge.
@@christianbaker3564 it’s honestly disappointing that would otherwise be a great final boss is ruined by a cheap kill move. I beat Messmer without summons or a cheese build because his attacks were fair. Radahn is simply broken because of the 3 sword swipe. If you don’t use a shield, you lose.
Heard Starscourge Radahn was too hard at launch so they nerfed him. Wouldn't be surprised if it happened again. All other bosses are hard but it felt like every type of build from melee to spellcaster was at least somewhat viable. With Consort Radahn only a small handful of melee builds are viable. Spellcasters are completely out of luck.
I've played spellcaster the whole main game and DLC without too much trouble, even P1 Radahn is doable but P2 is absolutely bullshit, had to make an entirely new build
worst part is even if you use summons he will still immediately agro on you after you cast one spell. and in phase 2, that means he does a 10 hit teleporting combo
So from what I’m seeing in the comment section, the big things that should change are: reduce the holy aoes due to visual clutter and fps drops, slow down some attacks, and overall just provide better opportunities to deal damage beyond dodging like 20-35 seconds worth of combos to get a light in
I hope they dont nerf him. Give it a week or two and ppl will start to get this fucker down. I personally like to use days on one boss. Make it that much sweeter and earned
@@Tomblom They'd better nerf him. There's difficult and there's 100 hours of nonstop dying unfair. This is the latter. Don't believe me? Ask Kai Cenat.
@Tomblom I agree they shouldn't nerf anything, but they have to. They wouldn't if they properly play tested their games and didn't release this crap but here we are
@@Tomblom they need to do something with that 3 sword swipe. It is really unfair to fight without a shield. Everything else about the boss is fair in my opinion except that attack. It’s ridiculous.
There is one attack missing in the video: In the 2nd phase, if he pulls you with gravity field, he'll hit the swords into the ground, creating a vortex of gravity then he'll fly and lay 4 projections of himself on you, ending with himself hitting the swords to ground again and creating another vortex. So, if you get pulled in the 2nd phase, run straight to the opposite direction until he finishes his attack. 😉👍
Validating to see that the quick double slash is pretty much something you have to eat unless you change your spec for it. I just couldn't find a way around it and beat him just face tanking it.
Just beat him yesterday. I really wish he gets nerfed. I don't want his moveset or numbers to change. Just let me see what he's doing during the second phase. Edit: Wow, I never thought wanting to be able to SEE what's happening in a boss fight would cause disagreement in the Souls community.
@@Church-of-Roxy rushes you down in phase 1 and doesn't let you summon, then in phase 2 starts throwing up shit with no breaks. visually, it's amazing, gameplay wise, it's exactly what a boss shouldn't be.
Feel free to tell me to get good in the comments but this boss's second phase feels like that one a boss you'd see in a fan made mod, completely unbalanced and outrageous
@comradegab3344 I agree. I enjoyed every other boss fight, the scenery and the lore. I think the DLC is wonderful just like the base game. But Radahn boss fight sucks: no time to heal, hits extremely hard, no time to SEE what he'll do... a nightmare
Some stuff I picked up from beating this frustrating madman: - Deflect tear can really help u when dealing with the Cross Slash Attack. (Deflect, dodge, dodge) - During the clone part of the meteor attack in phase two, it's much easier to simply block the clones and then dodge the 5th attack. - Probably mentioned in the video, but its incredibly important to dodge into Radahn's basic combos in phase two. - If you can spare a sliver of equip load, have a dagger infused with Raptor of the Mists to easily dodge the AOE orbital cannon. Put it as your 2nd right-hand weapon, and pull it out whenever you need it. I tried a few different types of weapons, and personally, two-handed greatsword felt the best.
They should just get rid of the barely dodgeable 3 hit and it wouldnt even be that bad tbh actually very manageable as a final boss. The only other thing is, in the second phase after the meteor attack when he slams into the ground the holy pillars he pulls out of the ground deal unreasonable damage sometimes. Like ive been 1shot by them before despite having multiple defense buffs active & 60+ vigor, but other times they hit me and barely deal half of my healthbar despite using the same inputs.
After over 40 attempts in the last 48 hours I finally took this bastard down! I’m pretty sure I yelled so loud that the neighbors heard me and my wife and dog thought I was crazy! 😂
I BEAT HIM. A whole fucking week, 2 hours everynight after work. I tried at least 6 builds. Cant believe i got his ass with a parry build tho Im pretty versed in Sekiro, but parrying in elden ring is no joke. I can rest my ass for Wukong next month now
I didn’t like the boss design here. My main problem is that it’s not fun because you feel like fighting a stone wall. Your attacks only chip away health from him but otherwise do nothing else in terms of animation or fight advantage. I can’t believe I’m saying this but Malenia was a lot more fun because she actually staggers or loses her balance when you attack her, so it feels like a real fight between two powerful beings.
This guide seems to be missing at least 1 major attack that he does. The one he does after the unavoidable gravity pull. He creates stone craggle and gravity around him in a circle for about 2 or 3 seconds. It is barely avoidable if you immediately start rolling away after the gravity pull, but in phase 2 he hadds a lot to it and I cannot figure out how to survive it unless I am full life with a shield.
Don't know if you beat him, but maybe this'll help someone else. I've found that if I start sprinting backwards against the gravity pull as soon as I'm being reeled in, I can make good separation after it lets go, then one dodge roll away as he slams down his swords and I typically escape with 0 damage other than the initial grab. Worth noting that I use a light build and haven't tried it with Med., and there have been several boss combos this DLC where those few extra frames made a huge difference.
@@Audey I beat him, but just had to get lucky with that attack. You can dodge the pull, but it is one of his fastest attacks, so it gets me most times. I was medium and could not always get away, even with a dodge as he smashes. the pull is very random with how close it will pull you to him, so it was always unreliable to run away for me. My wife is currently trying to beat him and we have found a great shield with scholar's shield cast on it works really, really well.
@@briancaples5614 My strategy for it (if you can't dodge the pull) is to roll spam away when you can(to get one early dodge, then run) so you get just enough distance before he slams down and you can just run away unscathed, then he slams down again. For the slam again, I've been using the hardened tear to boost blocking, so I block the smash down, it bounces you up so you get s during most of the gravity swirl then keep blocking and it's only minimal damage taken.
@@briancaples5614 If you ever want to revisit him and this attack, I found that you just have to dodge directly away from him towards your camera. The clone cross-slashes have a big opening in front of him (since they go diagonally) and they lightly track your position. As long as you can avoid the first tornado, you can sprint directly away from him, and then jump the last tornado. Lots of steps for just 1 attack, but it's what it is. I haven't been hit by the followups using this tactic before.
This has to be the most satisfying boss in the whole game. The lore, the OST, the arena; he is really tough indeed, but defeating him after learning all of his patterns and learning all the particular dodging strategies just feels so damn rewarding. Truly an amazing boss fight.
Step 1: level STR to 48. Step 2: upgrade and equip Fingerprint Stone Shield. Step 3: keep L1 pressed 99% of the time. Step 4: summon Mimic Tear. Step 5: whenever Radahn is not even looking at you, use your weapon special.
thank you so much, i was struggling so much with some attacks on phase 2 that your video help me so much, today i just beated shadow of erdtree and i feel so proud lol then i will probably upload my own try, just want to save the moment
This video gave me energy to try again after 35+ failures and I beat that SOB! I ended up tanking him with a big shield and being patient and mimic helped distract him to get in hits. Your video really helped me with some of his patterns though, thanks.
They make a boss impossibly difficult and then they attach a twink to his back who constantly tells you you should just give up. They knew exactly what they were doing.
@viniciusmelo4112 Yeah, I beat him in around 5 hours. It was not easy to get hits in safely, I did a lot of light attacks and only did charged attacks during the move when he slashes up and the lights circle around him. Use flame grant me strength and golden vow for buffs to make phase 1 a lot easier. Then it was pretty much just die until I finally got 2nd phase down.
@donalddavid8199 I test weapons out at +9 and then upgrade to 10 if I like them. I forgot to go back and upgrade it fully until after I had already beat him :(
This was the guide that helped me finally beat Radahn after 14 hours of trying to beat it with no summons or mimic tears. This boss is such a weird balance of being the best boss FromSoft ever made and the worst, but in the end I'm glad I still beaten it on my own terms. I just hope not every last boss after this will just be a massive flashing bullet hell.
4 months laters and this video helped me beat this boss after I was so irritated. Well explained and demonstrated. It helped a lot and showed me that I just gotta lock in and handle it. Used literally every tip except the back hit one cause I could reliably dodge with fang’s finesse. Ty goat
Facts, I think the first phase is good besides that frame perfect dodge you need to do for that one attack but over good. Second phase is absolute nonsense
The thing is, most people got hit a ton by the holy beam followups after every slash in his second phase. Although most of his attacks are still the same in motion compare to his first phase, if you were dodging his first phase in the wrong direction (ie, dodging away or in front of him instead of dodging in a circular motion) you get punished heavily by the holy beam followups. The mindgame here is that your brain gets used to the way you dodge his first phase attacks, and then in the second phase when you see the same attacks you react to them the same way you did in the first phase and so you got hit by the beams. FromSoftware really is playing a mindgame with us here.
I’m definitely not good enought to beat him alone. Thank god for mimic tear. Took around 20-25 attempts. I thought I had him beat at around the 10th attempt, but I guess he must have had a sliver of health left because he just grabbed me and killed me. I got the “Let us go together” gesture and I thought, “yes, I did it!”, but respawned to a fog wall in front of me. Heartbreaking to be so close!
Just a tip, if you are using a summon spirit try and get good enough at phase 1 to summon after he goes into phase 2. The damage suffered in phase one by the aggro swapping isnt worth summoning in that first 65%.
I've fought every single boss in Elden Ring and this is the only one where I legit needed a guide for. Even with Malenia, I only needed to look up how to dodge Waterfowl Dance reliably, but everything else I managed to figure out. This boss tho is somethin else. 1st phase is tough but super fair imo. The 2nd phase is actually insane. It felt like if I even make one mistake with my dodging, I get brutally punished for it; and it was hard enough already just to get to the 2nd phase, let alone learn how to deal with it without watching a guide.
I was finally able to beat him. I just stuck with using counter attacks with my great sword and heavy shield. Pretty much negating all his damage as much as possible, while throwing in a heavy hit or counter. Took a minute, but was able to tank the fight in the end.
There's a bug that's been happening to me where Thiollier's AI breaks if you summon him and Ansbach. He won't enter the arena and will die by himself. Leaving you done one NPC against a Radhan who's HP is geared towards two summons. So in my experience it's only ever worth summoning Ansbach and a mimic tear instead.
Yeah Thollier not being there 70% of the time made the fights longer and Ansbach just casually walking in a circle watching me being beat to a pulp... I ended up having more success just going in on my own. The rollercoaster was unreal. No summons, okay some summon, okay all the summons, okay respec, okay detour for some scadutree, okay everything still hurts and these summons ain't shit... I'm going raw again. Genuine rage and sympathy with negative reviews was sparked that moment. It only dissipated once the boss room was empty.
RNG oriented boss. He either do his most shitty attacks (gravity pull in 2nd phase, meteors with projections, nuke) and you die or you wait for the try he glitch and doesn't do this.
Just beat him with help from this guide. Fuck phase 2 IMO Malenia has been dethroned as Fromsofts hardest boss. Promised Consort Radahn holds the title now.
I finally did it after like 10+ hours with my uchigatana that I used for every other boss in the game, no mimic tear or spells, just straight katana. Worth it
Alright, that was flippin' intense! Congrats, & thanks for the epic explainer vid This helped lots. Replaced my fire scorpion talisman with Talisman of the Dread. + rocked the two damage reduction talismans (physical + holy), & Greatshield talisman. Golden Greatshield deflected plenty, and I noticed Taker’s Flame was my most effective damage source… so worked on staying alive, + landing Blasphemous Blade’s AoW. Finally got it within 30 mins of watching this 🙏🏽
I like it, when hard bosses are fair. Like Horah Loux or The Nameless King. Also the frist phase of Consort Radahn, but his second phase is some kind of bullshittery...
My problem with this boss is that it completely robbed me of my play style. I played the entire DLC, entire base game as well, as a mage strictly using range attacks and summons. I spent so much time leveling up my scadutree blessing level to 20 and spirit ash to 10. Now here I am at the final boss of the game that kills you before you can summon and won’t get out of your face long enough to cast any meaningful spells. No other bosses in the DLC took me more than 2 or 3 tries to beat. I feel robbed of completing this game because now I’m forced in to a melee fight which is a play style I have never need to master and have no interest in learning.
Just wanted to say this is the best guide I've seen for this fight. Would love some advice for approaching him as a magic build from range. I've gotten extremely close a few times. Need to be better about dodging his arena-wide AoE blast. That thing has killed me multiple times because I keep forgetting what the slash looks like when he's charging it up.
Something I want to quickly throw out there which I think a lot of people (epecially if you're planning on using the mimic tear) will find helpful: you can rot Radahn in his first phase with only 2 rot pots. In his second phase, it takes about 4 (I haven't had a chance to test it yet lol). If you use a mimic tear, your clone will essentially have infinite pots at its disposal and will probably rot Radahn for you, so you don't have to resort to using something slow like rotten breath.
Its basically impossible to dodge again xD You can roll the initial pull but I didnt find a way to dodge everything else, so you just have to just try not to get hit by that
My strategy for it (if you can't dodge the pull) is to roll spam away when you can(to get one early dodge, then run) so you get just enough distance before he slams down and you can just run away unscathed, then he slams down again. For the slam again, I've been using the hardened tear to boost blocking, so I block the smash down, it bounces you up so you get s during most of the gravity swirl then keep blocking and it's only minimal damage taken.
@@Fextralife If this is still up for question, if I get caught in the pull, I spam roll away from him 3 times to get out of the circle, then sprint in a straight line away from his clones. Then, I jump the last circle just to be safe, because I'm pretty sure the tracking dies if you're off the ground.
Thanks for the guide, very helpful. I just beat him. I like how to-the-point this is compared to other guides. I just need to see the moves and how to avoid them so this is perfect.
If you don't want to use summons or can't summon them for some reason and you think it's unfair for you, just use the BLACK STEEL GREATSHIELD HOLY INFUSED, it NEGATES 100% of HOLY DAMAGE, with this shield radahn was not an actually unfair boss in my first playthrough, not even in phase 2 since the most damaging, punishing and unfair atacks are 100% negated with this shield, you don't even need to dodge the holy explotion atack he does at the start of the phase 2, just use the shield, in fact i think this shield was actually built for this fight like From soft wants us to use more shields, BUT REMEMBER DODGING is BETTER, USE the SHIELD ONLY if you CAN'T DODGE THE ATTACK, or if IT'S USING HOLY DAMAGE AGAINST YOU, THIS IS ALSO EFFECTIVE AGAINST the CLONE ATTACKS. I beat him in like 15 attemps or close with this strategy and without guides (after i learned the strategy). You can also use a HEAVY TRUSTING SWORD, wich i think is the BEST WEAPON CLASS to use against radahn, because of their FAST ATTACKS, HIGH DAMAGE and TRUSTING ATTACKS wich can deal COUNTER DAMAGE. For the FLASK OF WONDROUS PHYSICK i used the DEFLECTING HARD TEAR for the attacks that normally would break my stamina if i can't dodge them, so as long as i deflect a few of his attacks with PRECISE BLOCKS it won't break all of my stamina, for the SECOND TEAR i used the WINGED CRYSTAL TEAR but i think you can use wathever suits your playstyle there, the same for the TALYSMANS. I am thinking on recording a video beating him this way some day when i get to his fight again, to upload it here in youtube so everyone can know of this fun and fair way to beat radahn. I apologize if i have bad english, because i am not a native english speaker. Anyways, i hope this helps someone with this boss, you can do it. REMEMBER TO UPGRADE THE SHIELD TO +24 if POSSIBLE.
I just miss great bosses, man. There were like... maybe 2 good ones in the DLC? Bunch of neverending spammy spin-to-win + AOE garbo. This DLC has tainted Elden Ring as far as I'm concerned.

I saw the no hit runner ongbal backstep and then roll into radahn twice to avoid taking damage for the three swings that is hard to dodge idk if it works on med roll but it works consistently on light roll
My favorite post I saw that pretty much summed up this whole fight
*me dodging a combo for 20 seconds straight and getting killed for trying to fit in a 2 hit light combo*
“Damn, got greedy again.”
Exactly what I said on my first and 400th try
Just not true though, you can get a lot quick hits in during some of his combos when you learn the fight properly
His 1st phase I think is actually very fair. Hits hard and has some mix ups but he can be punished. That 2nd phase is WILD.
My first thought "seeing" that phase was, "What just happened?" Repeated each time I made it to that phase because I couldn't see.
Literally had the biggest fps dips just because of that 2nd phase

Sometimes there's just something that hasn't clicked yet you keep doing wrong, And you get so heated and keep trying to force it, And keep dying, It's totally normal when that happens & There's nothing wrong with looking up a guide to see what your doing wrong. I died to that Snake boss in Nioh 2 for an eternity before I finally watched a video and learned I just had to cut off his little snake arms. phase bosses suck because you dont get to practice, essentially, everytime you die in phase two you have to 1. run back up, 2. reapply your buffs, 3. go through all of phase 1 again. and all of that takes like 5 minutes or more. and by the time you get back to that point their are still phase 2 attacks you havent seen yet. its ridiculous, especially when that second phase is just even harder by such a significant degree. yeah the attacks are somewhat similair, but the attack agression and tempo are completely different plus multiple undodgable attacks you just have to know are undodgable.
Best build for this boss:
- Poison/Blood Antspur Raiper or any Poison/Bleed Spear, Great Spear or Thrusting Sword (I used the Barbed Staff-Spear)
- Any 100% Greatshield with Barricade Shield AOW
- Greatshield Talisman
- Dragoncrest Greatshield
- Pearldrake Talisman +3/Twin-Turtle Neck Talisman/Spear Talisman
- Viridian Amber Medallion +3
If this guy's gonna cheese you with his bullet hell of a Phase 2, you cheese that shit right back. Other things that you can throw in, but are optional and not needed:
- Golden Vow (Preferably Incantation, but the AOW or Consumable work just as well)
- Protection of the Erdtree (He deals Magic, Holy *and* Fire damage, making this incredibly helpful)
- Immutable Shield (This boosts non-Physical negations on your Shield; if you use the Erdtree Greatshield, you can get 100% Physical and Holy Negation for Phase 2)
- Scholar's Shield (Same as Immutable Shield, but increases Guard Boost and Physical and Magic Negation)
- Blessing's Boon/Blessing of the Erdtree (Keeps you topped off and out of danger when Radahn decides he's going to have a tantrum and wail on you for 5 minutes)
- Heal from Afar (If you're playing with Summons or Spirits, this is a great tool to have when you're not holding aggro; fastest cast heal with healing comparable with Erdtree Heal with high Faith for half the cost, whilst also being able to stay out of aggro range to use it)
- Mimic Tear Ashes (Again, fight cheese with cheese. Swap out the Viridian Amber for the Crimson Amber and a regen spell and he/she will probably never die)
- Greatshield Soldier Ashes (Do NOT sleep on these Ashes. They're one of the few Ashes with AI worth a damn and will block absolutely everything that hits them from the front. They get mulched pretty quick in Phase 2 though, so keep that in mind)
This boss, whilst a spectacle of its own, has gotta be the most bs thing FromSoft has ever come up with.

Agreed. Anyone disagreeing is legitimately delusional. I can't even see what's going on in the second phase.
I'm watching this and totally convinced I will never beat the chosen consort. I was planning on 1st attempt tonight. This is fkn wild.
The cross slash attack is broken and actually unfair. The worst part about this fight once you get down the pattern is the cross slash and the amount of holy on the screen preventing you from reading moves because you can’t see a damn thing.
cross slash is 100% dmg for anyone... except for the "human machine learning dudes"
that s unfair
broken feature
Exactly my opinion i think this is his worst move becausr there is no consistent way to avoid damage
@@dolphinmachinegun1721 I don't think there is a consistent way to avoid the 2nd phase blender other than just not getting pulled in the first place.

One Estus Flask
Just beat him:
Blasphemous blade was the weapon of choice
Full Rakshasa armor set
Golden braid, shard, fire scorpion, talisman of the dread
Physick: flame shrouding, bloodsucking
Incants for buffs: before traversing use black flames protection, blessing of the erdtree, golden vow, flame grant me strength.
This is the way. Got him second try, but using mimic instead only because I forgot. Also threw on turtle shield on my back. Thanks for the tip!
Awesome strat, thanks
My main issue I had with his phase 2 were not necessarly his new move set but rather the insane fps drops i got from some of his new moves, consistant 60 fps all throughout the game and every boss fight to suddendly droping to 30 mid animation, for this fight only i reduced the quality of lighting, effects, atmospherics and it became more manageable.
An other tip for that attack were he does his 4 after image attacks those don't deal a lot of damage and don't cause a lot of stamina loss when blocked so if you can't avoid the first one, take a blocking stance count the after images and then dodge to the side
Not to mention the hair also blocks what type of swing hes gonna do 😩
Literally happened to me last night fighting him, i heal after running from that huge holy attack at the start of 2nd phase and my game freezes due to how many frames are dropping and i die right when it fixes, my ps5 goint through it with all those flashing beams
@@breadtoaster1011yeah the hair and flash bangs completely blinding me are what’s frustrating me the most
My ps5’s frames dipped during the dancing lion, I don’t think phase 2 is gonna be happening on this console for me if I can even MAKE it to the second phase once

Phase 1: This isn't that bad
Phase 2: What the fuck
crazy how fromsoft made shields useless for whole 2 years and then made dlc final boss weak to shields
Pretty sure a wall and poke build works well on most bosses
Nah shield builds have always been very good it’s just become more apparent in the dlc cause these bosses attacks are just ridiculous and blocking it with a shield makes it easy mode
They were never useless in Elden Ring. Everybody just wanted to play dual wielding with jumping attacks
Great shield were never useless one of my easiest playthrough was golden great shield with axe executioners great axe Mesmer also gets countered by great shields
Last time I used a shield was in Dark Souls 1, maybe 12 years ago
I've played the whole main game + DLC with an INT build without much trouble, even managed to get Radahn P1 most time but Radahn P2 was impossible for me, had to use the old turtle method again after all these years
Finally, my ass just got kick by radahn literally a minute ago
Moore's shield with the bloodfiend arm set to blood affinity and 50-60 arcane absolutely melts Radahn with charged heavies
i do 3k dmg with piercing fang. no need for voodoo. thing is it does not give you the space to hit him. though i only tried once and died at %40 remaining
Try doing that bs on NG+7 with your RL160😅
@@samplexample use greatshield talisman, marikas talisman, pearldrake+3 and even on ng+7 consort radan deals funny damage to your stamina and health.

You mean lightning flasks melt him
Legit this is the first time I've even looked up a guide as to how to beat a boss.

@@zach-vh6sxget a life
That one attack he does that is basically unavoidable ruins the fight for me. Don’t know what FromSoft was thinking with that attack. It is literally too fast to dodge.
@@sygmeister they don't properly play test their games and they trapped themselves in the whole "we make hard games" narrative.
I was kinda sad that his trusty load bearing horse wasn't around this time. lol
@@alphadwuzzle1026 Goes to show how truly cold and evil Miquella is to deny his puppet his beloved horse.
They nerfed the hitboxes that didn't work as intended. The damage was also nerfed, but that was immediately changed back
I've played spellcaster the whole main game and DLC without too much trouble, even P1 Radahn is doable but P2 is absolutely bullshit, had to make an entirely new build
worst part is even if you use summons he will still immediately agro on you after you cast one spell. and in phase 2, that means he does a 10 hit teleporting combo
It’s ridiculous.
just get rid of the 1-2-cross sword combo and i'd be fine. everything else is learnable after a while.
Yes !!! Finally I beat Radhan after 100 of tries. Bloodfiend build is great. Didn't use summons nor any cheap tricks.

Some stuff I picked up from beating this frustrating madman:
- Deflect tear can really help u when dealing with the Cross Slash Attack. (Deflect, dodge, dodge)
- During the clone part of the meteor attack in phase two, it's much easier to simply block the clones and then dodge the 5th attack.
Thx for the guide. Took me exactly 250 tries with str build and no summons. This definitely was the hardest boss in all of the souls games
Congrats on your victory!
Yeah those pillars always get me
its probably bugged and they accidentally made it so that each pillar counts for damage, definitely getting fixed hopefully

I can rest my ass for Wukong next month now
I got to say it's really impressive how effortless you made it look in the fight at the end. Really well fought

@@Audey Thank you so much!!!

If you got him that close by yourself you’re definitely good enough
Just a tip, if you are using a summon spirit try and get good enough at phase 1 to summon after he goes into phase 2. The damage suffered in phase one by the aggro swapping isnt worth summoning in that first 65%.
Dodge for a 25 hit combo and then you should have an opening for ONE light attack. That sums up well 😂
I've fought every single boss in Elden Ring and this is the only one where I legit needed a guide for.
Same issue here with that fight. I just go in with Ansbach and summon the Mimic for the second phase.
They actually fixed that in the most recent patch a couple days ago so he’a finally active immediately

Malenia is a one pony trick with her waterfowl move. Isshin was the only boss that made me "rage quit to take a break for a couple of hours"

4:06 brings so many memories of me spending about week trying to beat Knight Artorias back when I first started playing FromSoft games 😢
Yup it the Lion Claw ash of war move set
@@revanknightjedi172 yeah but a boss doing this move consecutively, Artorias was the first that did it.
Just beat him and well ..I don’t think I ever wanna do this again…

I don't know why but the Meteor Attack Phase, running back does not work, he always catches to me.

@@Fextralife If this is still up for question, if I get caught in the pull, I spam roll away from him 3 times to get out of the circle, then sprint in a straight line away from his clones. Thanks for the guide, very helpful. I just beat him. I like how to-the-point this is compared to other guides. I just need to see the moves and how to avoid them so this is perfect.
This might be one of the best videos ever posted on youtube
Thank you for this kind stranger
@@inkdyedhandsIt was nothing, i'm happy to help.
wouldnt be that hard if my fps didnt drop to 20 with every aoe
I miss Gael and Orphan of Kos now.
These two seemed a lot more doable than Consort Radahns 2nd phase lmao
I just miss great bosses, man. There were like... maybe 2 good ones in the DLC?
Bunch of neverending spammy spin-to-win + AOE garbo. This DLC has tainted Elden Ring as far as I'm concerned.
Gael and Orphan are fair and super engaging Radahn is straight bullshit 😂
"Just use a mimic tear bro" I can't even find a good time to pop it wtf
This is the first boss in the Souls history I had to look up a guide for. What the fuck?
