Super awesome Justin make sure you put a Maryland plate on that thing so it knows your roots driving on I95 traffic, don’t forget pro and cons on good brand of air bags, some drivers prefer no bags if they are driving more off the interstate so depends on the type of hot shot business this also would factor in the type of tires, super fun build and please address all the types in many videos
@@JB_WhoWork I hope you’re able to get some information or maybe attend that medium duty truck show I think it’s in two weeks in Indiana should be lots of details you can gather maybe even some new releases for RAM maybe Chevy and that 8.3 diesel that everyone seems to be waiting to hear about it hope it’s able to not just have high payload but increase towing capacity to match f550 and ram 5500
Remember to register the truck as a tractor in order to get the benefits of going with a chassis cab. I would start with a F-450 pickup with bed delete because we can option the 6.7 HO
Issue with a cab chassis is the derated motors compared to the private market. The manufacturers say its for durability, but most companies I see that use these cab chassis trucks are going to turn these in when they hit 100k miles anyways. I put 250k on a 2017 F350 DRW with little issues, so not too sure about their explanation. The only difference is the turbo size. So I'm sure you can most likely change that out to get more power, trust me you'll appreciate it going up hilly terrain towing 30+k lbs. If you prefer a bed delete, take the F-450 you'll appreciate that wide track front axle, and camera's, makes getting into tight spots easier especially with power folding mirrors. If your sleeping inside your truck, then perhaps the Ram is the best bet, has more room in the back. My trucks are mainly single cab F-550's with a gooseneck utility box as the bed, and are used to get into tight construction zones etc hauling containers and materials and having a shorter wheelbase helps with that, making incidents less likely to happen. Get 2 fuel tanks as these trucks when towing suck down fuel fast and 30 gals isn't enough to have on board. The Ram has the better engine brake as well and is a inline 6 as opposed to a V8 in the Ford's. A 4.10 or 4.30 rear-end are your better rear end differential choices. If you do mainly highways in non slippery conditions then the 4.10 2wd is the best option. Hills and rugged terrain the 4.30+ 4×4 will suit you better. Best of luck ✌🏽🇺🇲
Make sure that if you order an F-550, you check “Trailer Tow Package - High Capacity” and that’ll automatically add the “Payload Plus Upgrade Package” and give you the 4.30 gears, limited slip rear end, the 40,000 GCW (F-500 specific rating), and the 14,706lb RGAWR. Can’t wait to see what becomes of this build!
@@JB_WhoWork, if the truck will be hooked to a gooseneck its entire life, payload capacity matters more anyway. Getting it configured how I mentioned is generally the best bet since the truck would have the best options available and the highest ratings.
Max tow is not a great idea. I’ve been out here on the road for 13 years. The biggest expense is fuel. Having the lowest gears binds you up on top speed. Quite honestly, the best way to make money in hot shot is light. There’s more than enough motor and gear to pull loads that you need to worry about lowest gear set. Fuel savings goes straight to the bottom line.
@@JB_WhoWork that’s actually not the case at all. That’s just marketing BS. I promise you. If you actually count the teeth on the ring gear. You find it’s a joke. Like 2 teeth. I have done real world testing with a 40k set up with a Ram 5500 and also a F350 . Just ask a guy who knows how to set up gears. You can do way better in a hot shot with 373 over 410 and it gets worse with 550 or 5500. I did 4.42 on 5500 and it did way better than 488 you just get way to gear bound. Ok for a tow truck, but sucks for over the road
@@JB_WhoWork I think the hitch weight of around 3,700 pounds fully loaded down. If it helps you out at the fifth wheel that I am planning on getting is a Jayco North Point 390CKDS with a unloaded vehicle weight of 15,835 and a GVWR of 18,350 pounds and the trailer is roughly 44FT long and the trailer is 8FT - 6IN wide.
Thank you very much . After 3 years .....Im building a Hot Shot rig ! Great work
Here in Illinois 95% of hot shot trucks are Ram there's a reason for that and that's all I'm going to say
I agree...most hot shot trucks I see on the road are Ram's
Yep
I’m in the process of seeing if the RAM store wants to build a truck also 👍🏾
It was like that down south till the dpf issues started to arise now all are switching to ford because they have less emissions related issues.
I can tell you exactly why. They’re the easiest to sleep in the back of. Thats it.

Thanks for the info, I think a max tow truck is the only way to go for hotshot unless you’re hauling RV’s 👍🏾

Will a 3 inch ball or a fifth wheel be a smoother towing vehicle for your gooseneck trailer??

Amen, well said fuel mileage is the only way to keep these 19.5k rated trucks running long term
You lose nearly 10000#’s in towing capacity going with the 4.10

Does Ken at the Ford dealership have any F550 gas engine w 4w drive ? and if he does, what’s the price?
Would you recommend a setup like this for hauling a large luxury fifth wheel.
If the rv has dry hitch weights over 4000#’s, absolutely! If you have the budget for a Kelderman suspension it will ride great unloaded!

how much was the aluminum service body
I will review pricing in another video
@@JB_WhoWork thanks
👍to you!
Thinking on doing hot spot?
Just wanna learn more about the builds
@@JB_WhoWork ok gotcha you should see about the sleepers to
Around here, if they want to steal fuel, they crawl under the truck and drill a hole in the tank...
Good point, a thief will find a way…
@@JB_WhoWorkWhat's worse, is they don't care how much it costs you so they can steal $10 in fuel....
I hope your not a voter for the guy in one of your home pages !!!
